What are your thoughts on Final Fantasy 16?
Does it fit in the series and feel like a true FF game?
Thank you for being here! 🥳

Considering the person at the helm has already made 2 final fantasy games and the people complaining that it’s not final fantasy has not in fact made any final fantasy games, i think it is pretty clear that final fantasy 16 is indeed not final fantasy enough! Thank you for coming to my ted talk.

A final fantasy game does not need turn based combat to be final fantasy enough. Its about the story, characters and lore.

Turn based was never a design choice. It was always used due to hardware limitations.

This is a common misconception, but it actually was a deliberate design choice. Search for a video titled "the complete history of final fantasy." Even back then, Square as a company wanted their devs to make high octane action games because they thought it would sell better than RPGs. "There were others within the management layer who felt that creating role playing game would not be a prudent financial decision. They instead, believed that players wanted fast paced action games."
Sakaguchi was actually pressured to make action games by Square but stood up for the gameplay style he wanted to make. When he pitched the idea, only 3 ppl joined him initially. Also, it was named Final Fantasy not because it was going to be Square's financial swan song, but because the title Fighting Fantasy was already taken and Final Fantasy sounded cooler. It was however, going to be Sakaguchi's personal last game before he sought a more stable job if Final Fantasy did not do well.

I pray people who make ff videos stop using the tidus meme but apparently there’s no god.

At this point in Final Fantasy's life... being Final Fantasy enough ISN'T a good thing. The series was dying slowly. The series needs to evolve and change. I wish older fans would wake up and realize that being Final Fantasy enough isn't going to cut it these days.

For me a big part definitely is the nostalgia-trip.
And I agree with you to the extent that FF should be more open world and less confined.
But I really really enjoyed the demo so I’m optimistic about the full release. Great combat, beautiful graphics, engaging storyline. That’s what I’m looking for in a game

the series was not dying at all, not sure where you got that from. 10 was a huge release in popularity and then 13 again was a major title. FF has been suffering a case of identity shifting and loss while alienating the fan base by shifting to simply another hack and slash title.

@@BM-di9wz where did I get it from? The leaders and devs of Square Enix themselves have already said this lol. I didn't pull it out of thin air.

@@BM-di9wz Final Fantasy 10 was 22 years ago. Just here to let that sink in.
Anyways "just another hack and slash". The combat isn't routine it's much deeper than most.

@StrikerTVFang wasn't dying after 10 and 13 which was my point. When they lost their identity it struggled.
