On the evoque the gearbox park release is under the air box and if drive shaft was hanging out I suspect it was manually put in to neutral to assist with recovery. To put into neutral you will need to drop a drill bit or screw in the hole to stop leaver moving back to park!! That’s why the air box is out.
100% correct 👍
I was about to say something
Hi guys, the wife did something similar with my Volvo! She was parking the car on full lock then stalled it, the car lurched forwards and the wheel struck a bollard! Caused a fair bit of damage but it was a super low speed impact. The garage tried to charge me stupid money but I managed to repair for around £300 quid in the end! Enjoying the content chaps, keep up the good work. All the best from Fife!
I like nice easy bargain turnarounds like this!!
I bought a Range Rover for less than half price because the gearbox had a fault and the owner was quoted £4000 to fix it!
I fixed it myself and the part only cost £260. 😊
Matt who?. This is easily the best & most realistic salvage video channel on you tube 👍🏻
As someone who works for the brand the gearbox release is under the airbox on most of these cars so you have to move them to put in neutral with a dead battery!!
Rob reason airbox removed, it’s from when car would have been originally recovered, under air box is gearlinkage which you have to move to a central position and drop a pin in to hold in neutral for recovery or movement. Great videos please go back to 3 a week all the best to you both
Peter goldsmith
The emegency park release lever is on the front of the gearbox.
I often remove the air filter housing to release the gearbox for roadside recovery.
It's safer than using skids/slippys and takes 2 min to sort.
18:01 definitely been to a garage, mechanics fingerprints on the sun viser.
Difficult to understand why this car was written off by insurance. No wonder insurance premiums are going up 😂
That exhaust clamp bodge is worthy of "Just Rolled In"!!
Would agree with you there Rob. It hasn’t been bodged to sell a garage has done that just to get it moving while waiting for a decision on repairing it
The lone soldier in the office is a nice touch guys , Lest We Forget 🇬🇧
Big respect to rob and Chris for the soldier on your office wall.
Nice to see the royal british legion soldier on the wall in the background
Love the soldier painting in the office, respect 👍
I can't believe it was written off for so little damage, I do like the idea of the quick fix to get it mobile. 😁
And that wrote the car off? WTF is wrong with insurance companies? THAT'S why your insurance is so high!
Not to mention depreciation 😮
It's not the cost of the repair nowadays, it's all the other costs in top, to name a few, hire car, storage of the vehicle whilst waiting for repair, storage of the car whilst waiting for the paint shop, admin..... When you total just those together plus the cost of new parts from landrover (which are on massive backorder) it becomes uneconomical to repair for them.
They want us all in electric cars, they why they are writing cars off.
Repairs are not so bad, but there is waiting lists in body shops, waiting lists on parts and all that time you’re driving a hire car. Our waiting time was 2 months for bodyshop and hire car was £475 per day. Got written off for 2 scratched doors that I replaced with doors in colour from a breaker car for £300.
@@olie3146 That's an excellent point 👍
I would say they removed the air box to get to the lever on top of gearbox that allows you to lock into neutral. Might of been stuck in drive or park after being hit. Or recovery driver dint have jump pack etc.
when we recover some of them the noturle swich is under the airbox and we have to drop a pin in the hole to hold the E-brake off and gets it out of park
Well as a daily driver of another 2013 white Pure Tech, you’ve hit peak audience metrics here! What a result, they’re great little cars once all sorted.
Hello Rob.
You was saying about J&R driveshafts, well I needed 2 for a seat Leon, well ordered 2 and they turned up next day with no issues apart from being sightly thinner. Anyway another great video..
My first thought from the outset was that it had been driven too fast across a ford and maybe stalled through water ingress and also tore the arch trim off.
The office is looking mint. Respect.
From what I can remember, you have to remove the air box to release the gear box or handbrake, been quite a few years since I’ve done recovery work
Absolutely correct 👍
Nice to have you guys in the business of motors especially when a member of the family fancies a range rover but one is not currently available ' but we do have a A class mercedes will that tie you over till a Range rover shows up' err...... Yes please😊
On a plus note it’s not a crappy ingenium engine 👍
Another great video Rob and Chris. Love your variety each week. Have a good week. Marc from Australia
Claire gets the pick of the litter and I can’t say I blame anyone. Happy wife = happy life.
simp
Well the previous garage bodge was inventive ! - that exhaust clamp did its job well. A nice result Rob, I’m sure Claire will be delighted with it. Looks great
A good hands-on repaire with teamwork, a major advantage proving to all doubters that both team members have hands-on skills well done lads
Probably done by the recovery driver to get it on the back of the truck without damage. Ive done similar by the side of the road just to get things mobile.
Hi Rob and Chris, bit of a puzzler at 1st, but all worked out well. Easy to sort once you got into it, and turned out a very good purchase/gamble.. Alex.
So happy with this channel always something different to watch well done the two of you 😊😊
Seen a RR do exactly that damage outside our house last year, and he did it by just driving slowly up the kerb and needed recovery on an AA truck because of that same damage.
Built to last they are not
Nice Job. You got a good car and Clare will have a nice car. Amazing how someone cobbled it together the car just to get it into the Auction.
The job was easy and if you had choose to sell it it would have been a nice profit. Liked the Mercedes when you did that repair. Await more from you both.😀👍
I agree Rob on the temporary repair, we used to do it regular with immobile vehicles. Nothing worse than a big lump of motor stuck in the yard in the way!! Just a thought if you're running it I'd do a service on the Haldex too, usually due around 40k but no harm in doing it early with the age of the vehicle. Nice one... Happy wife, happy life! 👍
Love the Tommy silhouette on the wall behind Rob. 😄
Definitely Rob, just to not damage it anymore.
Good evening Rob and Chris, nice looking car and turned out well. Thank you for taking the time to upload another video. Ged.
Best segway into carvertical I've ever seen. Nice one Rob.
Can't beat a good Bluetooth repair, bottom arm connected.
Airbox probably in the boot because they needed access to the neutral selector .
Lest We Forget. I love to wall art in your office guy's.
Hi rob and Chris, great job on the range rover, hope Claire enjoys her new car, from marty in Belfast northern Ireland God bless
Love it Claire has had a mixture of your cars now 👌 and someone will get a very nice merc 👌👌👌
That's a good buy, easy repair, sweet engine, a auto and pan roof, great spec
Chris, amazing impression of Rob there on the fix !😂 Seriously though, great hustle Rob 👊🏻
We need more green grocery analogies, 'peach out of a lemon' etc etc.
'If you see this on time lapse, I've got the right one, if you don't, I aint' Classic Rob, classic.
Gday Rob & Chris. Do you have any merchandise in the pipeline? Am new here and hear you say on some older videos you have merchandise. Great work lads, top videos and have learnt a lot.Cheers Roger, Melbourne Australia
Hello Rob & Chris, what a real gamble, and well thought out Rob for the cause of the damage, which, when considered it was not a lot. Good to see the car is going to a good "family" home - and the Merc is ready to move on! Well done and best wishes from Lincolnshire
Interesting video Rob, good work sorting it out but what an enigma ! Claire is going to be pleased.
I would go with you’re assessment Rob 👍🏻, as you know yourself it’s a nightmare with cars that are difficult to move !
Wow with that exhaust clamp. Just wow
Hello Rob and Chris, the damage for the Range Rover Evoque wasn't that bad, now back on its wheels a nice looking car.so low mileage as well.great video.
I am with you Rob on the bodge they needed to move the car around so that makes sense. Why they removed the air box is a puzzle but the car seems to run well so no need to worry there. I think Claire will love this Range Rover Evoque as she has had one before and this one only has 30K on the clock. A quick turnaround on this one and you will still be making money with the Mercedes so well done to you Rob and Chris. 👍👍
Never had a problem with jr driveshafts 100% recommend them
Well done chaps good to see a quick turn around,
Nice one guys, and Claire will be happy bunny. 👍👍👍👍
my dad would take the airbox off when working on something so when he shouted to me i would spray some sniff into the big pipe ....it used to scare me i was only young, just av thought Rob
Quick and Clean.. 🖐🏽Luv the presentation! Thanks fellas!
Brilliant boys very very well done a right result 👍
WOW you guy just keep nocking it out of the ball park, what a great find and simple flip and too boot you get the wife a new sweet ride - awesome.
Look at the handprints on the sunvisor above your head, Rob
It's a really enjoyable saga! Keep 'em coming!
Very concerning some of the bodged vehicles on the roads🤨Anyway guys you sorted this one and well done and hope you enjoy it Claire. Cheers for now!👍
Lovely quick and not a lot of hard graft and expense to get it turned around to its former glory video is interesting as usual fellas 👌 keep up the good work stay lucky and healthy looking forward to Sundays video 📹 already 😊❤
J&R driveshafts are the OG suppliers , must of used them for YEARS N YEARS , next day delivery and 2 year warranty 🤘
Just done a wheel bearing on mine , what an absolute nightmare getting the drive shaft out and splitting. Bottom ball joint , allimuninium corrosion with steel , it's just not moving,
2 days with heat big hammers grease , wd40 ,in the end I hit drive shaft that much it went like a mushroom at the dnd ,
when you ask about for someone to do it , noone wants to do this wheel bearing job on these lol
Who’s writing these cars off, Stevie wonder 😂😮💨
Claire's got a newish car she's wanted.
I remember the Mercedes well it's gonna be a beautiful car for a subscriber. Great content as usual🫡
Nice buy, Rob.
Sometimes you'll have to take a chance, and sometimes it pay of.
In my business it's mostly money out of the pocket 😆 but some day the luck may come my way, - or I'll be retired before that. (Listen to my advice: Stay away from Renault!)
But well done. I love the eye for details and not jumping to the easy way.
Your cars is certainly worth buying. Real quality.
Keep up the good work. Always worth watching you two making magic.
Fantastic buy Rob! In your business you have to take chances, and this certainly paid of 😅 absolutely well done , Fantastic video to boot to .
If we haven’t got the right one it’s wrong , Rob 2024 😆
Insurance have lost the plot lately
They wrote my Hyundai i40 off for a scuff on the rear bumper
A scuff that I've been quoted 200 pounds to repair
Bought it back had it lashed and a couple of grand in my pocket
Fuck em 😂
It’s mad isn’t it? I swear the insurance companies are paid by the government for use to all go electric or something 😂
Well done Rob: excellent work and a great result!
Another great video nice change to see you doing the mechanical work keep up the good work
As soon as I saw the Evoque and the glint in Rob's eye, I knew where it was destined to go 😂
What a good turnaround fellas. 👍👏
Fortune favours the Brave !
Nice quick flip
Air box removed to put into neutral when battery flat
Another swift turnaround, nice one. 👍
I buy a few range rovers/land rovers through Copart. Air box is usually removed to locate emergency neutral selection. I’ve had some absolute bargains due to this as the appearance screams flood damaged. It’s always a gamble though!
Have you bought many 2,0d lots at copart with knackered engines a mate has bought 2 2018 discoverys all knackered engines
@@leedstown Yes, only 2.0d’s really. I try to go for the stolen recovered stuff, missing keys etc. I know the engines are terrible and I’ll be stung with one that has self destructed one day 😅.
Obviously wasn't flood damage, so the air box was removed for another reason. Rob was jumping to an illogical conclusion.
Ive had a few driveshafts off j&r and never had a problem reasonably priced aswell
Likewise - can't understand how they do them for such good prices - had several for landrovers and they are typically half the cost of others - great company
Airbox is out to activate the gearbox neutral mechanism.
Ebay do a bag of 500x Assorted Car Plastic Trim Clips Door Panel Retainer Rivet Fastener Push Set for trims for cars its only £6 definitely worth getting it
We got them
Unbelievable this afternoon I sitting here and thinking when the next video coming and like magic 👍😃 brilliant as always guys 🚗
Top tip for Land Rover / Range Rover owners. Tighten the driveshaft nut when the vehicle is on the ground, through the wheel centre when it's at ride height. Tightening them up whilst they are in the air , with the suspension at full travel can damage the rubber boots, which isn't obvious at the time. My mechanic used to do this (aftermarket wheels with smaller diameter centres meant you couldn't get the socket on with the wheel on) and I would go through drive shafts every 12 months or so.
Many bearings on suspension and driveshaft have to be torqued to spec with the car at ride height, sometimes with given loads/weight in the car. This applies to many makes of car.
If not done properly the rubber in the bearings will prematurely deteriorate, basic 101 for experienced mechanics.
Looking forward to the SVR series
Happy customer of JR drive shafts 👍🏻
Can access service history online Rob. Could be really well maintained car. Need 4 tyres with equal depth or rear diff could go.
Thanks fellers - real interesting one, wonder what it hit !
If I'm not mistaken, some Range Rovers/Discoveries have a second, smaller battery in the engine compartment. I think they were looking for the second battery under the air cover, but the car doesn't have one? Just a guess.🤷♀
When is the SRUK Calendar going on sale? Noticed it on the wall in Chris’s office
Rob! .... I daresay your Missus LOVES the surprises She gets from You, and you give them with the 'Biggest Heart' .... But to many people (Not You Obviously because of Your work) our cars become 'personal' - Almost human companions, and it's an emotional WRENCH! when they are 'Taken' suddenly, without permission - Just a THOUGHT! 🤠
Wonder if insurance companies have a set write of cost great video guys and great ending
Insurance companies work off value percentage.
I think exactly the same with what's happened with that car (I remember where I work we recovered a Fiat where the inner track rod had snapped, and we bodged it together so it could be driven on and off the truck)
From experience, when ive had an after market air filter fitted, id usually leave the airbox in the boot for the new owner
