Good looking quail hutch and went together nicely.
On orienting the bottom floor wire...no doubt Dale's first thought would be focussed on minimizing wasted wire mesh. The width of the roll shipped to Dale has surely not been purchased with the egg rollout in mind. In this case quail eggs will be too small to ride/ roll smoothly on either of the two opposite surfaces to choose from. Ideally, you would want the eggs to contact the one-half inch spaced (down hill) surface grid not the 1 inch spaced surface that allows the egg to settle between them to rumble across the 1/2 " wires and not gain a chance to build up any momentum. BUT the reality(as I see it) is all about the width of the coiled roll from the factory to minimize wasted $. Special order (?) a greater width to be able to cut it down the middle and get two cage floors . Or, I guess just slant the floor with a greater pitch and hope the birds don't go lame?
Sometimes the birds walking around will help the eggs roll down from the vibrations. I later ordered the 3 tier and the cage floor orientation was ideal.

I’d never have just one water cup, it can clog and your birds don’t have water. Great set up thou
I have since upgraded to the three tier cage and using a water bar per cage
Good looking unit but what’s that wind noise it not bird it’s hell on us old people with hearing aids ? I’m always learning but when noise level is this bad I change vidios

man i can build that same thing for 54$ .you look like you can build youre own .stop wasting money people .i have 230 quail .i have built my own cages since the 80s yes im old but good god 125$ for some thing you can build youre self .its nice but i dont have 125 to waist .i spend 200$ i can build 5 cages .so cheaper then 54$

Well, I wanted to start something that worked. I didn’t want to have to guess the dimensions. I had already built two cages and ran into some pinch points on the cage. I had a few quail die because of that. Dale’s quails was nice enough to send me this unit. I later sold it to a friend that wanted to get started with quail. I then purchased a 3 tier cage from Dale’s quails. I’m very happy with it. It works great!
I work 40 hours a week on top of the farm work. This saved me time. Well worth it.
@@FarmerBrad I'm elderly and don't have the energy for such projects while taking care of everything else I need to, this looks like a good idea for those of us that lacks energy or time.
I agree. In the future if time allows or you have more energy you can base the measurements off the working example to replicate. If I was to build it over again I would add metal flashing over the wood that the metal floor attaches to so the poop doesn’t come in contact with the wood.
