The Cup Winners' Cup was regarded by UEFA as the second most prestigious European club competition, behind the European Cup and ahead of the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup (later the UEFA Cup). From 1972 onwards, the winner of the tournament progressed to play the winner of the European Cup (later the UEFA Champions League) in the UEFA Super Cup. Since the abolition of the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, the UEFA Super Cup place previously reserved for the Cup Winners' Cup winner has been taken by the winner of the UEFA Cup, now the UEFA Europa League.

Until 1997 only the Championship winners played the Champions League, between 97 and 99 second places started to play Champions league too, and the season 99/2000 was the first season with the Champions League we know nowadays, Europa League (still with the name of UEFA Cup until the 2008/09 season), and marked the end of the Cup Winners Cup. The name CHAMPIONS League had a meaning that time. A competition for the CHAMPIONS to play.

We got trough Atalanta in the first stage going to extra time and third game, than on the second round we squashed Appoel of Cyprus 16-1 in the first leg, still a record in European Competitions until this day, than at the quarter finals we came back on the second leg, against Man.United, after loosing 4-1 in Manchester, giving theme a 5-0 response in Lisbon, still the biggest Man.United lose in European Competitions until these day, and we are talking about the Busby Babes teame, one of the greatest teams in the world during that period, than at the semis we had to go to extra time and third game against Olympic Lyon to rich the final, which was dramatic against MTK Budapest, 3-3 at the end of the extra time, and had to go to a second game, to finally bring the cup to Lisbon.

One of the best winners was Tottenham in 1963. I saw the match against Atletico Madrid (good team) and Greaves, Dyson and company played wonderfull.

I known you close voluntarily your eyes because your little club make shit in others competitions. You have 100% lost finals in UEFA Super cup and never pass the quarter-final of UEFA cup winner cup.
