4AD was my first intro into solo gaming, I appreciate gamers like you, tabletop wanderer, solospelunking, that have only helped the community flourish! Back in the 90’s was the last time I could get friends and family together to play DnD. Love how many games there are now that can be played solo! 😊
You are not alone! I recently fell back into solo roleplaying with Shadowdark and now Dragonbane. I played a lot of AD&D 2E in high school with the Book of Lairs series. Lots of fun just doing dungeon delves and exploring. 😁👍
Excellent video!! I enjoy watching the solo rpg videos more than anything. Time constraints really keep me from more solo stuff but I'm a bigger board gamer than an RPGer. I am fortunate to have a few weekly groups for board games and one regularly occurring Pathfinder 2e group which helps scratch the itch. Keep up the great content and look forward to more adventures in the Sword Lands.
I thought I'd just say I really appreciate you and your channel. I have found so much joy in solo role-playing and have found the way you approach play has really informed the way that I now play. I often revisit your tiny cthulhu playlist for inspiration and I consider it kind of a gold standard. Solo role-playing is such a great way to disconnect from the anxiety of the day-to-day and just slip into another world where only my imagination is the limit, Even better, my daughter and I have been playing RPG's now for a few years together and we're having an absolute blast! Your joy, passion, and creativity are truly wonderful and I hope you continue to share! Thank you
@@miromanyth Thank you so much! I'm glad to hear your visits to my game table have brought you fun! And I love playing games with my boys, 20 and 16. I'm trying to keep them at the game table as long as I can. Thank you again!
@magehammersgametable not yet! I was thinking of sharing something someday. I'm a professional illustrator (Star Wars The Living Force was my last cover!) so I draw all the NPCs, monsters etc as they pop up so it might be fun to share that. But also I have a baby so time is tough! I was going to try your Delves system for my next solo excursion. Love the simplicity of it. I'll let you know how it goes!
@@Cuthbo Whoa! That's impressive work! I would love to see your character portraits! If you are on Facebook, my magehammer's Game Table Fan Page would be a great place to share. And thank you! I look forward to seeing how your session goes.
I agree that fewer rules are much easier for solo games. And that's wonderful that you run with your HS group. I'm a high school science teacher and I run the D&D club as well. Great video, thanks so much.
@@magehammersgametable I run a simple, OSR style version of the game. More like Black Hack. And I think some of them will keep up the hobby as they get older. All the best!
Thank you for the video. I’ve only recently got into D&D with my son, and we really enjoy it. I’ve always wondered how to play it solo, it would be especially beneficial to help learn the rules … and also the added benefit that I could play anytime I like 😂
@@KyrndomWolf I have the Shadowdark Quick Start and ran my face to face group through the Citadel of the Scarlet Minotaur for them but used Delves & Dangers instead.
@Solospelunking I experimented with self publishing a short story just to see how the process works. I have since taken it down because it will be part of an omnibus of stories I have written since I was in high school through the years featuring two characters. I am slowly revising those stories and hope to self publish them on Amazon in the future. I don't have a timeline, but it will happen! Then I have some super hero stories and other stories I am also thinking about the best way to publish to the world.
I was just thinking today why you haven't done a magehammer's Musings in a while! I love roleplaying as well, but I have to get it from watching your videos as I am too busy otherwise. Makes me wish I grew up on Summerberry. I can see why you would rather play a group than just one person. That would pretty much be like playing a video game. You truly do love gaming!
I have no idea why I am not solo role-playing. I've spent hundreds of dollars on systems and tools. I build characters, I've built maps. But rarely play a game. As for journalling, I'd prefer the story style detailed journalling but not writing it out, i wouldn't have the patience so I'd type it using a cloud doc platform.
@@brads2041 Yes! Get playing!! As for journaling. If I were to Example of Play it again, I would use Google Docs. In fact, I solo played the superhero RPG, Sentinels of Echo City that way. It works fine!
So I want to learn how to play in general. I'm new to the hobby and want to learn something different. I have the game. I want to play, which is either Basic Fantasy or Scarlet Heros. Either one doesn't matter i have the basics down my characters, the starting town, and possibly a mission to get started. Any advice is much appreciated. I also have 5x6 index cards. I want to put general info down for the mission and have it be replayable for the next campaign.
I was one of those "true solo" types, but now I also like to play two characters and have them interact.😊
@Solospelunking Yes! And those are great sessions!!
@magehammersgametable Thanks 👋
two is a good number - like co-op with yourself
50+ here as well. The single best fantasy movie we had growing up was Beastmaster and I'll fight anyone who says otherwise.
