Am from Sunderland a can remember right up til the mid 90's may be little later on but every coble small boat netter anything working nets and pots would all carry a 303 bolt action type pew pews and any seal spotted the were getting it . Bloody wick with them up here mind now need some a them orcas 😂 least then the chris packham brigade can't prey on you for naughty words about seal culls 😂
Thanks for the video what a shame would it be nice for a couple of boxers greedy gets it's a shame they didn't get your cold lol hopefully better luck next time mate
lol that was mad ! I think that seal thought he was at a sushi restaurant, while you was pulling that netting, in he was taking the food off the conveyor belt in front of him lol that’s well annoying !!!
Hey bro. Tradition is Tradition. You gotta kiss the first fish!!!! Probably gatherd more seals because they were in disbelief. He didn't kiss it....eat his catch 😅
@@beanysfishing2555 its so bad down here lads are paying the bills with seal watching trips,😔,one of the potting boys used fresh plaice for bait and a slug got it’s head stuck in the pot eye,it goes without saying he was very gentle getting it out of the pot,I keep meaning to ask him where he got that really warm fur jacket.
The food supply is decreasing. You must see the flat fish population plummeting around here. A scientist recently told me the seals are over breeding and the numbers will crash soon. Either food or disease. There is too many for the ecosystem to support here
@@beanysfishing2555 I've been fishing since the mid 70's and flat fish have been declining from at least that time onwards, so long before seals were increasing. Also from about 25 years ago we started to see the diseased green dabs, which did not occur in my early years.(caused by pollution) Therefore we have evidence of disease but not that they have been eaten by seals. Food is not running short for them, again we have evidence, there are currently successive years of record pups being born. The opposite that would happen if they were hungry. They were always apex around here with no predators. The one thing that absolutely proves the seals are not eating everything is the truly massive increase in whiting numbers, also dogfish, smooth hound , sand eels and rays have increased. You were just having a bad day on the herring and blamed it on the first thing you saw, s seal. I blanked with my net last night BTW, that's fishing.
@@Norfolkyakker Well you should know seals never take whiting out of nets, and they dont eat doggies or smooth hounds. Rays have nowhere increased in numbers, they have gone down massively. Ok they are catching more on the beaches, mainly to the south of their traditional grounds. They used to be knee deep at Horsey, boats used to steam dozens of miles to fish for them there, now they have been pushed further south than ever. You can hardly catch a roker at Horsey now.
@@beanysfishing2555 When presented with a free menu of whiting and herring a seal will always take the herring because of it's high oil, fat and protein content. So this is not evidence as hanging free in a net is not a natural state. Animals will choose, a wood pigeon will eat oil seed rape before beet tops. We should consider our own track record with herring as we collapsed the North Sea fishery in the 70's due to unrestricted mechanised fishing. Don't worry a few 1000 seals aren't going to do that. I went fishing for 30 years before I saw let alone caught a ray. However, they are the most at risk of the species I mentioned because skate and chips is still a favourite.
its a shame all them bloody seals, you need fur coats to come back in fashion and the old norskys to come and cull the buggers how they used to years ago.

Great video them seals hear the engine start from now on they know feeding time hard 2 win
Yes, they hear you for miles. They sometimes sit off the beach waiting for us.

The Orcas would have a field day here, they would be too fat to swim!
Tangle nets are the boys for the seals
😮 if you know you know

No wonder not many fish, 10.000 seals... need to go to rent a Orca. Great vid.

hahaha yeah, after seeing a few fish in the gill, I thought it would be a nice pick, but they ate everything!
think you might have caught more on sibiki lures and a rod and line on the day, lets hope the herring thicken up and the seals leave some for you.
Its too dirty here, Ive tried it before and never got one. The nets 30 yards away had 200 stone
lol that was mad ! I think that seal thought he was at a sushi restaurant, while you was pulling that netting, in he was taking the food off the conveyor belt in front of him lol that’s well annoying !!!
Yes, he was a big bugger, it would have taken a fair bit to fill him up

Hahhaha I will kiss the first one next time to be sure
i allso thought you was going to do well, them seals make it q bit soul destroying did you get them other pots back
Yeah, after looking at the gill, I thought so too. I will try and grapple for them once the tides ease, they have been really hot lately
Put thick wallpaper paste in hauler roller it is punctured it will self haul top up now and again it is what we did back in the day
The roller isnt punctured. I only fill it up every 2-3 years. Its a good idea though
Bad luck with seals, still at least that slug didn’t hang himself up in ya gear and have to get it through the hauler,😉
It was a biggun right near the boat, I wouldnt of wanted him to get caught up. Thankfully they would rip out of monos

Need a few killer whales along the coast to keep the seal population in check.
That would be nice, nature keeping a check on numbers
There can only be one reason for apex predators increasing numbers. Increasing food supply.
