@@aaarsix Well it kinda depends on what you are looking for, Mischel isnt easy to read or easy to understand and pretty abstract. On the other hand, it can actually change your way of thinking :). I'd say it would never hurt in any way to read it.
Here from the fruit snacks challenge that's going viral. My aunt mentioned the marshmallow test and I researched it. Slightly different test but similar concept.
Walter Mischel The American-Australian Psychologist, who had discovered the Marshmellow theory ( the willpower/ self-control ). His teaching about would you like to have two oreo cookies later or one ore cookies now. He said that an intelligent child would choose two oreo-cookies later than to have one right now. He taught us that building a trust relationship with the promise-maker, and the promise-maker should keep his promise.

In the same way a physicist attempts to communicate deeper meanings in layman's, so shall a cognitive psychologist. Look up his original research, see what you can find, check his peer review - it's an old and highly replicated study. Do some research yourself. TH-cam doesn't have all the answers, and neither do you. Best of luck and peace.

High poverty / High stress AND Extreme affluence and High stress environments- in combination with an inconsistent environment contain individuals who are in highest need for self-regulation training
The point is, Dr. Mischel’s reference is applicable to the topic. An educated person is able to draw references from science, literature, the humanities, current events, etc. Dr. Mischel appears to be an educated person. He gets credit for his reference. Although he did state an interpolation in stating that the fruit was an apple. “And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: (Genesis 2:16,17) What exactly the “fruit” was Scripture does not state. That's not the point of this study, as kids we want something we want it now, same with adults and marketing. Bigger, louder, shiner. The same with toys.
Jen, my point is that the gut biom is a key factor in the decision. If a person is not hungry or hungry would influence their will to delay gratification. So I still feel that this may not have been controlled in the study. That is called a confounding variable.
you're missing the point. it's not the item but the desire. it can be their favorite toy if they don't play with it while being in front of them like a hot wheels toy car or barbie doll

Or maybe from a big household with lots of other kids competing for treats, the possibility of not getting one is high. İ believe our environments, the nurture factor has a lot to do with it all.
In a world where nothing is consistent. Where you haven't been able to find sustainable solutions to overcome poverty and other social ills. Where most nations have been built upon stolen lands and genocide. Where teenagers are becoming more and more suicidal. Where we are teaching to men and women that their lives should revolve around getting educated so as to get a good job, to fit in the society, to be the man power to make their country advance. And that they need to earn their food, their clothing, their shelter and their health. And above all this that they need to procreate the future man power of this world. Now you want to deprive their children of their childhood by "taming" and controlling them when they are still innocent? And people just see this as a normal thing?????
Yes you should earn your food and clothing - someone has to work to create all the things you want/need to live. You might not want to be the one to work for those things but someone has to. Lazy
