Seriously though, thank you for spotlighting a large part of my childhood. My brother isn’t here anymore but my memories of playing this game with him will always be in my heart.
@@ThommyofThennAh yes the late 90s to early 2000s era... Aka the legendary era of jrpgs. It was back then I first got introduced to the Tales of series through Tales of Eternia. Man the nostalgia is unreal. Edit: And of course, my first FF game too through Final Fantasy 7.
I *just* finished the entire .Hack story. From Sign to Versus. And honestly? I miss IMOQ. So I’ll be taking any excuse to re-tread this familiar ground.
Not a fight, but both tell their stories, one darker than the other. As both are in different timelines, could be that sao, and dot hack take place in the same timeline, or be divergent timelines. Never know
Oh the Nostalgia. I remember after watching .hack Signs and Legends of the Twilight, I registered on Ragnarok Online and played under the username Azure Scythe ( final level Class Assassin Cross). Good times worth remembering ❤
Oh I love IMOQ! My favorite part of the Dot Hack series. It's a game that's just oozing with atmosphere, and honestly it can feel pretty spooky at times too. I've been playing Fragment lately, it's pretty fun if grindy.
I'm playing through the whole series right now, I beat IMOQ and G.U. vol 1 and 2 and am starting vol 3 soon. Honestly, an incredible series that needs to come back
Man this was such a good watch. Brought all 4 games and played them for hours. I brought this to my aunts, my grandmas, everywhere I went. Such a deep lore, the gameplay was eh, but the story is what kept you and the many fan services they presented. Sora , bear and the others are real players btw Yes you have to have the cut scene for Sora to unlock sora.
This was an amazing video. I fell in love with .hack after watching sign, and I have watched sign multiple times at this point but never knew much of the game story so this was nice. I would love to see a GU video as well.
This was fantastic. Thank you. I got really into Sign and IMOQ when they were coming out. The mystery hooked me and I loved the idea of having to track it down across different types of media (though my wallet did not.) I really do miss this series and the sense of wonder it held, even in the slower entires. I would love a port, remaster, or a new entry. Thanks for this fun walk down memory lane.
Proud to say i got the complete series, PAL version. Which is very very rare since the EU had a limited number of these games for sale. These games changed my way of playing games a lot. Good video my man!
Infection has always been my favorite ps2 game I've never beaten it or honestly even gotten that far but there was something about the atmosphere in the game that truly immersed me in the world
I started the game with Mutation then went back to 1. I don’t remember if I got very far, but I could never get ahold of a copy of Quarantine. I remember the game being a slog, but I really loved the concept. Thanks for this retrospective.
My neighbor lent me these games and a bunch of Naruto and Bleach DVDs when I was in middle school and i didn't appreciate it enough. Wish I hadn't given the games back when he offered to let me keep them. Still got those Box sets though, those will be my reminder of him trying to mentor the young weeb I was.
Hey superrad. Slight correction. Dot Hack isn't owned by CC2. Its owned by Bandai Namco. A small but important difference that is why we aren't getting more games and such now because bamco isn't interested in the idea of them. CC2 actually really wants to make more. Or at least bring IMOQ to the modern era. Love your work btw
These videos are always so interesting! I’ve never played these games or watched the shows, but it’s very entertaining to kick back and listen to you discuss it.
For those going into IMOQ I highly recommend watching SIGN first and then playing the games. SIGN is basically part 1 of the story with IMOQ being part 2 of it. Liminality is supplemental to the games and each episode is meant to be watched after you beat the corresponding game. Also if they do remake these games I think I'd like them to make it play similar to Xenoblade as I always felt these games played like a very early prototype of what Xenoblade eventually did. I really don't want them to dumb down the combat to what G.U. had though as I felt it was a significant downgrade from IMOQ even if it's more flashy and less clunky. I personally have a lot of fun with IMOQ's combat, but then again I've played through them maybe 20+ times since they came out and know the intricacies and BS these games throw at you by heart. Newcomers would definitely not have a good time with these games though as bosses like Skeith, the first and last fights with Cubia, and Macha are some significant difficulty spikes to overcome and some normal encounters will completely wipe your party if you aren't attentive enough during them, mimics with physical tolerance especially are cruel. Oh and definitely look up how many virus cores you need by the end of each games as the last game throws 4 areas that require a ton of cores from lower level areas. I remember running into that brick wall pretty hard on my first playthrough and I'm glad I didn't just give up and finished the games eventually. I completely agree that you shouldn't do the item completion quest as it will easily double if not triple your playthrough of these games if you try and do it. I've actually done it twice in all of my playthroughs and completely regret doing that. If they incorporate this into a remake have it available from the start and not be a post game thing. Heck G.U. has item completion with it's Ryu books, so it's much better done in those games. I don't exactly have high hopes for Bandai Namco giving .hack another chance, but hopefully CC2 can at the very least convince them to greenlight a remake of IMOQ at some point. In the meantime I highly recommend checking out their latest original IP Fuga Melodies of Steel as it's also an amazing series of games as well. Hopefully their endeavors into self publishing will be successful and we can get more great series like .hack and Little Tail Bronx, which Fuga is a part of, from them instead of them just doing anime games all the time. Heck I'd like to see them take another crack at an Asura's Wrath like game since I think that interactive anime approach would appeal to more people nowadays, although they shouldn't have the ending be DLC.
Trying to inch towards 1000 likes. 996, we're so close... In any case, great video. I'm playing through G.U. remaster right now and it's alright as a blast-from-the-past. Really liked this video for the history lesson/refresher. Keep up the good work, your Monster Hunter stuff is nice, too!
I named the admin accounts at my last job Aura and Tsukasa :P and since it was roaming profiles in XP, they got corrupted a lot and had to be repaired or reset. Lol.
.hack// sign was the first series I've watched as a kid i liked but i couldn't grasp the concept, .hack// legend of the twilight I've re watched tons of times as a kid and love the opening and ending the .hack// root i watched on cartoon network but it was so inconsistent because it seemed like cartoon network was showing random episodes out of order. it took me years before i was able to finish the series then bought the G.U game was only able to find the first two games . Liminality is what made me dive back into the series . 1:04 blew my mind
I played and beat 1 2 and 3 And then found out that quarantine is like 700 fucking dollars by itself… and so I resorted to emulators literally the best experience of my life recently as well. I love sign I love, roots And all of the manga I love the universe and wish the original series got a remaster like GU I still hold out hope but I doubt that will ever come to pass
At least it has difficulty. I still remember my first time getting to Skeith as a kid. You tried Last Recode? Game is so easy you have to purposefully *try* to lose to ever game over.
Man, please you have to continue and do the Haseo Trilogy. I'm 27 now and buy it in steam because i used to play some .Hack in my PlayStation 2 but I can't remember which one. Anyway, i love it so much replaying that, whatever i get a chance i spend my time playing.Hack
So the wave of villains was created by Morganna in response to Aura being created? I think I misunderstood the ending. Also when was Sora revealed to be Haseo? That blew my mind. Thank you again for making these videos.
IMHO, I think IMOQ doesn't need a remaster. A remaster would only sell to people who already love the game and who would find "alternative" ways to play it if their copies go missing. IMOQ needs a full remake to grow the community.
@@Denneth_D. xenogears can be played easily. It's on PSN for Vita and PSP I believe back in the day. These 4 games are very large and need to be fixed to allow transfer of data between them. And has no "legal" way to get it
I know you're trying to justify.hack as an isekai but trapped in a video game is a different genre. hack maybe is one but that is spoilers for other games and at that it is confusing if it really is one. The easy question to test whether or not it is one or is not one is what happens to the person that's trapped in the game if earth blows up. If Earth is destroyed and they die too then they're not another world. They're just on a computer on earth. A major aspect of the genre is culture shock and alternative alien perspective. When you're just trapped in a video game you already know it's not an unfamiliar world.
My bad. As a heads up, I don't believe this is actually explained in GU, so you'd never know if you only played it. I think the book series is what goes over it. Hopefully that helps since it's not spoiling a revelation from GU but from digging through additional media. Moreso just adds context. My bad still tho.
@@SuperRADLemonThat's fine, If it's not actually spoiling anything for the GU trilogy and is just additional lore that ties it back into IMOQ then I can completely understand your perspective. I appreciate the apology regardless, thanks for the awesome retrospective.
