Rest in Peace bass player Michael Rhodes. One of the best session players ever.
😢🙏❤️
My all time favorite bass player
I always thought that was Tony levin.. I know nothing Jon snow
Aww I didn't know he passed away. Condolences to Michael's family and friends. RIP
Absolutely!!!
Damn- not a single thing coming out of Nashville today can hold a candle to this.
Not just Nashville, these are some of the best musicians in the world.
Nashville? What's Nashville ? Oh yeah, Nashville is that city in Tennessee where they USE to play Country Music......lol
He is awesome!!!!
Haha. Not quite nothing …but not much yeah
Passage de Dusir JOHNNY BLUE SKIES recorded in a legendary studio on 8mm and the musicians did a KILLER job! Released this summer!
Brent Mason and Vince Gill in guitar solos together, WOW. can it get any better than this. Simply awesome so addictive for the true guitar enthusiast.
True, true, true!
Jeesus you know you 'made it' when Brent Mason is your backup guitarist.
Imagine if vince would've started a boogie band with this line up, only fast songs lol
thought that too. Caught a glimpse of his "backup" guitarist and i was like holy sh** is that brent mason
That’s good
He was a guest. This is “Brent Mason and The Players Live.” That said, Vince is unbelievable. One of the best tones to ever come through an amp.
Chet Atkins is upstairs smiling his ass off at his protégé....❤️
RIP Michael Rhodes….Absolutely solid!!
He was the best
One of the greatest performances ever caught to video. Not rock, not country, just highly talented musicians ripping through a damn fine Vince Gill tune. Absolutely wonderful!
Perfectly said!!!
We call this genre, "Art, With A Cool Groove!" And lot's of "CHOP'S!"
Nope...definitely country.
The simple truth. Thanks Cryuff4 -- albeit 12 years on!
Vince is smooth as butter and Brent Mason ain’t no slouch either. Whole band is phenomenal.
Mason was holding back so as not to up-stage Vince...just one listen to Hot Wired ends that discussion.
Bass player comes alive every time Vince solos!
You're a noticer, Joel Nielsen. I hadn't spotted that! Related to the man who co-wrote this song with Mr. Gill? Reed Nielson left us exactly ten years ago. They also wrote my other all-time favorite 'funk' tune, WHAT THE COWGIRLS DO. But you noticed that too, right?
I love these Nashville songs where there are a thousand more musician-licks than lyrics!! Let 'em play!!
One of the absolute best ever in country music!
Vince's playing is as smooth as any steel player that ever lived. It's extraterrestrial impressionism of steel playing. He's the best at it! Brent and Paul are two of my favorite players. This video should be a national treasure.
Yes !
International treasure, God everyone is so out of this world good! Vince oooh, he is just so sublime, Brent kills as well!
he makes everything as easy and smooth
His guitar playing has nothing to do with steel playing. Completely different instruments.
Pure 100% guitar heaven! Brent Mason and Vince Gill on the same stage.... wow!
He is the entire package. Fine guitarist, songwriter, vocalist, entertainer, and the ladies love him. Can't beat that with a stick!
xtc1957 Even the ladies? Jackpot then! ;)
And he’s a damn nice guy that everyone wants to play with. I hate him
Fortunate people in that audience to witness this particular performance. VERY enjoyable! Hell, it’s Vince Gill !
This performance is as good as it gets..Vince Gill's playing and tone were epic...Mason and the Players are top, top notch....
I KNEW THAT WAS BRENT MASON!!!!
Getting Brent Mason to have your back live... Priceless!
Now that's funny!
Vince is the Guest here.
It’s from the DVD The Players Live In Nashville.
The Players being Eddie Bayers, drums, Paul Franklin, Pedal Steel guitar , Brent Mason Guitar, John Hobbs, keyboards and Michael Rhodes, bass.
Vince was one of 5 guests which included Joe Walsh, Peter Frampton, Shawn Colvin, Travis Tritt and Jim Horn.
The Players is a reference to the bands being the top first call session players in Nashville.
@@jaycareaga9929 And, sadly, bassist Michael Rhodes passed away recently. :😢
I love Vince Gill. He such a masterful guitarist. A true natural when plucking them strings. He can play just play any thing.
Reminds me of John Jorgenson who can play anything and everything
Never overboard with his licks just enough a real class act
That whole stage is filled with the top session players from the 90’s and on. The A Team!!!
RIP Michael Rhodes
I love telecasters and love Vince Gill. Soulful brilliance. Great guitarist not to mention his voice. He has been inspiring me to write songs for a long time. Thanks Vince for being better than awesome.
You're so right, Laura. Vince is a guitar virtuoso...love him!
Laura Watt-Hammond You're so right Laura is the best
+Laura Watt-Hammond Better than awesome sounded lame when I first read your comment but it's growing on me and I like it now. What is better than awesome? Few things. Vince Gill with a guitar in his hands is one of them.
He certainly is an inspirational guitarist and a great singer Laura and if you don't mind me saying you are absolutely stunningly beautiful. :)
😁😁
I don't know how the audience can sit so still. I'd be dancing on my chair. Best performer ever! Love me some Vince Gill.
Of all the singer-songwriter-guitar virtuosos out there: Clapton, Knopfler, Gilmour, Winwood, Prince, Glen Campbell, Roy Clark, Willie Nelson, Neil Young.... Vince Gill is a giant. Superb vocals and picking like no other!!
You know who would agree with you? Chet Atkins. "Mr. Guitar" was best friends with Vince, and loved what he did on a Telecaster, and gifted him with at least one of Vince's many, many great instruments. (A Chet Atkins signature Gibson, I believe.)
On a 'live' show like this one, Chet called in a request, and said, on air, I'm paraphrasing, "Do you still play that?" A song about approaching the Oklahoma state border. Dang, where's THAT on TH-cam? -- You KNOW it's right here, somewhere. That show. With Chet on the phone to Vince. Whatever did we do before TH-cam.
Country session drummers are the best on earth
Vince, Brent, Paul - just the best of the best. This is the song that made me a Vince Gill fan for life. And this is a picker's dream team. The way a good song should when the pros are all in the pocket and the house is rockin': make it last a LONG time. What a treat!
Man o man the guitar work
Spot on!!!!!!! The best
I never heard this song until today. I was playing a gig with a fairly new band that myself and some friends who play in different bands put together. The guitarist turned to me and said “just play a train/two step beat”. What a fucking FUN song to play!!!
Saw him play this with the Time Jumpers in Nashville a month ago. They just killed it. Vince is the total package...writer, guitarist and singer.
Reverend Ovni and fine as hell.
He's so hot. He got me to really take a listen to the then new guard of country. Now the old guard. Wasn't there another version of Liza Jane with the new Nashville cats? Can't find it.
I looked and can't find it either.
Reverend Ovni thanks for confirming its gone. Sad but good to know cuz I thought I dreamed it even existed.
This is tight but his nnc version, sublime in a word. 😎💖
He also tells funny stories during his set. It's an all around great show.
Vince's tone is just so good. Its sparkles in the mix.
Straightforward no sequins or sparkle, humble commitment and concentration on their instruments and art. Consumate musicianship. 😮
THE ABSOLUTE BEST!! CAN'T TOUCH VINCE'S GUITAR PLAYING OR SINGING!!! WOW!!!!!!!
One of the most gifted man in Country music today!
I could watch that bass player all day long. He loves his job.
Me too....Michael Rhodes....Nashville royalty!!!he's in a band now with Guthrie Trapp.... Says a lot about Trapp to get a bassist like that to hang out with!
Great country bass line. Nothing showy just kick***...until about 4:40 when he kicks it up a notch.
Yes he does. Now he's playing with Smokin' Joe.
yes as good a guitarist Vince is, the bass player is a GREAT bass player too!!
Michael Rhodes.
That song is one of the best ever, and the guitar work here is outstanding!
Man, I love Vince's style when it comes to the solo. It's so fluid.
Vince's playing always seems so effortless. Super light touch and smooth as glass.
Vince Gill,, an outstanding picker, wonderful singer,, smooth as silk and an amazing talent!
I've come to realize Vince was the Keith Urban of his time. By the by, how many of you knew Vince was offered a contract to play pro baseball,, yep,, not only can Vince play awesome guitar, has perfect pitch AND in his prime could pitch too! Whada guy!!
@@quickdeuce Surely you're not comparing Keith Urban to Vince Gill? What a joke.
@@dobb673 Keith is a really good player man, i see where the comparison comes from
Love to hear them old telecasters, especially if they are in Nashville
2 of the best country guitar players on the planet......love it!! amazing! Vince warm and smooth....Brent attack and double stop king!
This song is always a crowd pleaser. I've got an old vcr tape
Of Vince Gill playing this song
In a drive-in movie refreshment
Stand. Too cool.
Vince kills it at 4.20 what a great Guitar player!! Just watch how smooth he is an effortless it is for him! He doesn't break a sweat playing this. Like i said before in a post you have to see him in Concert Vince is Great!!!
Brent's a beast on that Tele damn! Vince guitar tone and playing is just brilliant!
Wow !!!!!
Brent and Vince .. the true American legends!!!
When I first heard him, he was only 16yrs old with a band called "The Herd ". Brilliant bro ,keep trucking musically.
Never tire of this one. Being a group of professional musicians of this caliber is akin to being a group of rocket scientists...for real.
It does not get any better than this ,,,, country players( take note) no matter what instrument you play ,, this is how its done .
I like your voice
Whatever the price of admission, it was definitely worth it at this show!!!!! 😱 🎸 🎹 🎶 those solos were 🔥
O no! One of the best ever of any genre of music. RIP.😞
I had the pleasure to meet Vince in '96. He was nice enough to stand out in the cold with the rest of us fans and sign autographs. For at least 2 hours, til everyone got seen. Great guy. Stuff like that goes a long way to me. I told him I'd play with him someday. I will.
This right here is my idea of what good music is all about. This is just SO satisfying.
Brent Mason = GOAT of Country Guitar
Vince = GOAT of singer/musician combo
I can’t imagine being there live for this.
This is one of the most amazing vocal and instrumental musical songs that you will ever listen to in this world! Simply Marvelous! Love ya Vince and Band, GodSpeed!!
I never get tired of Vince and this bands version of Liza Jane. I keep coming back to hear them Jam and Jam they do all the guy's who play in this video are GREAT!!! The first time I saw Vince was at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena in Binghamton, NY in the early 2004 or 2005. He is just the best Music Entertainer I have seen in concert bar none!!! Vince I'm your biggest fan!!! I would love to see them Play Liza Jane (The Player's) together at a County Music Awards in the future rocking the house down. Kachman
Ive been seeing Vince in concert for 25 yrs. It never gets old......He was monster when he first set foot on a stage, and to this day hasnt lost step. Ive been a pro guitarist for longer than i like to admit..Vince is the only guitarist that brings me to tears...so damn smooth, and tasteful....every pro i know when first hearing Vince says the same thing.; "Now thats how the electric guitar is suppose to be played." God love and preserve the man, an American treasure...
This has to be my favorite 2-Step song of all. Great fun to dance to and the breaks were fun to hit.
Dobie Gillis love dancin to this, too!
vince cleans em all up. just total sweet fender tele country, all natural, no pretentiousness. he's so good the others could wish.
Brent Mason is my favorite, but Vince's playing fits the song. No flash, just good solid phrasing & tone.
Paul Franklin is another all time favorite.
Michael Rhodes, what can you say. Top shelf.
Keys (don't know the player) mighty fine.
Great bunch.
Agreed. Less is more especially when it's done so well. No disrespect to Mr. Mason; a monster player by any standard.
The keys player is John Hobbs. He's a killer player.
Gotta love The Players!! Saw them and met them many times in Nashville!! Brent Mason befriended me and would have me over for Thanksgiving every year! One year I got to play with him and the family there and he liked my playing and gave me one of his PRS Brent Mason models!! He's a great guy and I'm still in touch with him and his family!! His brother Randy is also a good friend!!! I am Blessed!!! The guitar is my number one!!
One of my favorite Vince Gill songs. Great picker...and Brent Mason just makes it better.
Vince;Smooth as silk...Brent;SO much talent...Great Stuff.
Damn, this has been up hear for six years and I missed this. This is playing man.
Talk about speed and taste! This is it, pure homegrown heaven!
Go Brent Mason! It's great when you have him in your band! Icing on the cake! Thank you for posting this!
This is the best guitarist still playing, sensational.
This is the quintaessential expression of superlative musical taste! Vince Gill is the BOSS
Bad Ass...Vince Is incredible and so is Brent. The band Gave me chill bumps...Vince playing is so smooth-Tone form Heaven.
One of the best live performances on TH-cam. Killer everything.
One of my heroes on the guitar. He can flat out shred it. He also has a sound like on one else.
I love both Mason and Gill as players. Two of the best IMO. Gill is always recognizable and tasty. That is hard to do. Mason just has impeccable skill and talent.
Imagine being Vince Gill and knowing you are already a great guitar player, but if that isn't enough, you can spend countless hours with probably the best guitar player in the world, Brent Mason. In addition to being an incredible friend, he can teach you almost anything in the world that has to do with the guitar. Just wow!
*Smokin'* musicianship all around.
OMG....magic !!! Great performance Vince Gill&Brent Mason . All band is top !!!👏
Country Funk (think Dolly's “Two Doors Down”) originated in the late 60s, with the guitar and singing voice of the late great Jerry Reed (see “Amos Moses”) - many years before Stevie Wonder's “Superstition” brought the same hypnotic beat to wider audiences.
And to those of us 'of an age' it's Vince Gill who was synonymous with Country Funk 30 years ago: I needed reminding that two of my favorite Vince Gill funky tunes -- LIZA JANE and WHAT THE COWGIRLS DO - were co-written by Vince and his buddy, the late Reed Nielsen who left us ten years ago.
Our favorite video example of a live performance of LIZA JANE. Brent Mason and Vince Gill trading licks on their Fender Telecasters.
Vince's voice always stole the show so most of his guitar jams never really got the attention they deserved. If he had never sung a note his playing would have taken him into legend status by itself.
Wow ! Vince Gill and Brent Mason on their teles, and the rest of the talented musicians. These guys are so good,i can watch this over and over.
I just Love this performance by Mr. Vince Gill...
and Great Band🎶🎼🎵🔊‼️
Brent and Vince ......... incredible "gitar pickin " . What a pleasure to listen to.
Man, RIP Michael Rhodes.
That music is like getting on a roller coaster that never ends.Fun stuff!
cant stop listen to this. What quality song performed by such high skilled musicians :)
One of the Masters of the telecaster, a great vocalist, duet partner, songwriter, guitarist and top musician with all the stringed instruments you can think of. My favorite country singer and lookin forward to his visit to the local casino this fall.
I'm not so much in Country music, but this band is spectacular, Vince Gill and Brent Mason extraordinary guitar players...
They're both guitar Gods ha ha...Masters of the ol' Telecaster...
Personally, for me, Albert is the master...
and a special mention to Vince...He too plays like a real Guitarmeister in this vid methinks. I really get a kick out of the twang he gets out of his Fender...
Sweet sounds all around and a fantastic performance by all.
Thaks for posting this sanders4617
One of the top 3 guitar players in the world if not the best!! Vince is incredible
Eddie Bayers on drums too. Wow that's one hell of a line up.
What a rhythm section. Like a quartz watch.
To me, an absolute master. What a talent. I grew up a hippie and rock and roller and it took yrs. to realize the talent that transcends genre. This guy is class all the way, in a class by himself. Effortless, makes me want to quit my pitiful fumblings on the guitar every time I witness his expertise. Thanx for the vid, Glen
Sweet! All-star lineup...everybody on stage is just a killer crushing a great tune!
Ajúuuaaaaaa!!! this is REAL CONTRY MUSIC I love it!!!
Amazing musicians and singers. Some of the best I ever heard.❤❤❤
Pedal Steel player is Paul Franklin - probably the best in the world and just made an album with Vince Gill! Pure class!
Wow, what a tremendous killer guitar player, truly amazing.. Go on Vince keep giving us more of the same.. Don't we just love the electric Guitar played like this. WOW.
@Vince gill doing fine Vince, thanks for giving us those wonderful telecaster twang sounds, so addictive you're the star man vince. Tommy in Waterford Ireland. I'm still learning with a Mexican Fender Stratocaster. Im a Big fan Vince.
Totally agree Tom
Vince and the definitive Telecaster tone. Great performance.
LOVE TO SE THESE GUYS LIVE... And I really appreciate Vince's MELODIC guitar mind... WOW... Take note "Speedsters" saying something when you solo MEANS something ❤
Incredible musicianship and fun song.
Vince Gill rocks- vocal phrasing and guitar plucking !
This is awesome. I love this song anyway but this performance is killer. Great band all around.
Vince Gill ROCKS!!
Sanders-thanks for sharing this great live music! As good as Vince is instrumentally, Brent certainly held his own. Vince should have given him a longer solo-he deserved it-very tasty phrasing.
Dave
Moi, j'aime "quand ça déménage" ! Thanks for sharing & congratulations for sound and picture quality.
This isn't just a performance, this is an extended musical clinic!
Re: the guitar playing here...I love how Vince's solo early in the song is so great - musical, technical, and tasteful, and then some - and then, after superb pedal-steel and piano solos, Brent Mason comes in with those freakin' *insane* guitar licks, all-guns-a-blazin', almost like "Oh yeah, guys? Oh yeah, Vince? Think you can hang? Well, watch and learn!"
But lol, it's not a competition, of course...just a masterful, high-energy, super-tasteful, yet FUN performance. Well played, gents! (no pun intended. ;) )
"Liza Jane" live is one of country music's joys.
