Very cool setup! As a fellow Sprint employee (I work for the Federal Operations subsidiary in Reston, VA), I have found very few active hams. I run a DR-1X repeater (UHF pair coordinated by T-MARC) out of my house (near Winchester, VA), while waiting for the zoning dust to settle to move to a new tower up on North Mountain west of town at 2250' ASL. The tower owner / operator offering the space sells consumer wireless Internet services, so I should have a decent connection from a mountain top tower, and will be running WIRES-X with some decent coverage of the northern Shenandoah Valley at some point. Inspiring to see a fellow ham down the road running a WIRES-X node mobile, and using company product for the Internet backhaul piece! 73, Mike - KG4Y
Russell, I've have my node #33428 antenna along with an FTM-100DR & Wires-X set up on my 5th floor condo window. So far I've run my mobile FT-70DR HT around town up to 3 miles from the house successfully with more testing coming. Since your using the FTM 400XD dual channel radio does become a brick running Wires-X like my FTM-100DR or can you use the other channel to conduct QSO's ???
Nice video on you mobile wires-x node. Received my FT-2DR recently, but I'm waiting on the FCC to issue my call sign so I can transmit and learn more about wires-x and various rooms.
I enjoyed seeing your creativity at work. I am a Ham that is coming out of retirement....FT2D is on my list. My only gripe,....All the manufacturers seem to be dead set on making all their products as tiny as possible. I have to take care to hit the correct buttons on my VX 170, and I seen you had a couple of double taps with your screen. Not any smaller...PLEASE!......
Thanks for sharing your portable c4fm node. I would like to put something like this together using the ftm-100DR cause there no one on FM repeaters after 11pm it gets depressing 30 mi south of Pittsburgh PA at night so dead O like this idea . Lot guys do DMR same but fusion is really less complicated . Nice TY .
Hahaha i think you'r working for Sprint and now you are working for the T-Mobil US (a Germany Company) :-) the reason is they bought Sprint and be now one of the biggest Telecom Companys in the US. and yes your Video is a very good show for the new Fusion System from Yaesu the background is that you show us a Demonstration of the Audio Quality and the handling with this modern System. Today i'm using DMR System but the Sound Quality from C4FM is much better then the DMR Audio. I'm searching a new Radio for my Car and i think the FTM100DE will be one of my favorite Radio. 73
Hi, A very neat/cool set-up Looking at the documents, if I understand correctly..?? You can setup up a PDN without the complexity of the HRI-200 and port forwarding, The only difference is you can't host your own "Room" Maybe wrong..??
How well is the cooling fan for FTM-100DR ??? My radio got very hot while running at a steady 50W on the American-Link from very long chat fest with some good old boys and burnt out the radio. I have an antenna transmitting at 50W from my 5th floor condo so I can drive around town on Wires-X.
Hi Russel, simple but good video. So, what equipment is necessary to access the wires-x network directly into a repeater if that repeater is hooked up to the HRH-200 and internet? Can a ftm400 directly access the repeater that is set up with wires network? Can it change rooms on the repeater?
Our hobby becomes more and more like our digital phone, simplicity was the key to our hobby especially during emergency, nevertheless enjoy , sounds great.
so this may be a stupid question lol but since im not familiar with using the wires x stuff im guessing it requires internet? so can't do mobile without internet? unless there is a repeater close by which I don't have. I do own a ftm400dr but never used the wires x since no repeater.
Just a Question about your Setup. It was My Belief that if you Used an HRI-200 that you could use your FTM-400 to TALK yet you are talking into your FT-2 and into the FTM-400. Could you help me Understand that Configuration Please? Thanks and 73 de KG5TJV
I’m thinking about picking up an FTM400XDr tomorrow.. Does it matter wether or not I have a wiresX repeater in my area, If I’m surrounded by YSF capable repeaters? (about 18 of them for 2m/70cm). All the yaesu terminology is new to me.
Hi I am considering buying an FT2D... how do you find the speaker audio on it? heard reports that it is a bit tinny. What are your views about it? thanks
I have wiresX hooked to my windows tablet it works good. I want to connect to wifi at McDonalds and other places that have free wifi. I tried connecting at Chick Filet and the ports were closed on their network. Xfinity has many wifi hotspots how can we connect using those?
I am a new ham and am very interested in purchasing the ftm 400. I want to have a "mobile" node like your setup in my jeep. I'm confused on why you have two separate radios; the 400xdr and your handheld. Is this necessary to accomplish this? Why can't I tx thru the 400xdr on wires x? I apologize, I am a new ham in learning. _KD9MDX 73
Hi Nice video but one question. How can you put the hotspot in the DMZ? I realize you work for Sprint so you may have special access that regular cellular data users don't have. Normally for Fusion users to go mobile requires them to open a VPN back to their home routers. As a Verizon customer I just get assigned an IP and that's all I can do unless you know of any other tricks? :) Best 73, K9RUF
Hey Russell, thanks for the video. Was wonder if anybody and been using the HRI200 mobile. Does you Sprint mifi have a public IP address? 73's Darrin in VK3
Thanks for the Video. I see this video was posted almost two years ago. Many things have changed. I wonder if you have changed your mobile setup now that there is PDN mode. You can now keep the HRI-200 at home and just use your computer and FTM-400 in the car. I also see that you changed the "Dilly Dilly" room name. Any reason for that? 73 de N2LRB
Is it safe to DMZ the router? I ask because I'm having trouble opening my ports on a 4G LTE Hotspot. PortForward.com could not accomplish the port forwarding so I gave up on the project.
Fortunately, Yaesu just made this setup easier by eliminating two pieces of that hardware and dealing with port forwarding. Soon they will release the update for the FTM-100 & 400. Still, if one wants to host their own room an HRI-200 is needed, but that is the exception. At this point, a sub $100 tablet PC and the FT2DR will get an operator onto Wires-x with Internet access.
Hi there, I am very impressed with your set up and am only just thinking about getting into wiresX. Does the software on your laptop come with the wiresx box or can you download it from internet? What is it called if you don't mind me asking? thanks colin M0IQY

Thanks for the video which helped me set up my own Wires-X home system.

Now you need to show the folks how to open the ports on the hot spot.
THAT is where everyone gets hung up.
Thanks!!!!!

cool I do not have wires x yet or any newer yaesu radios. I have to plan to do this in the future.

Why did you not use your smart phone for data or is a direct connect needed?
Nice set up

Never mind.. I put my router in DMZ mode and it didn't work anyway.. Guess I'll sell the HRI200
Very interesting set up, question . . . How much data do you actually use in a month?
On your hotspot I mean. . . . Thx!
