Thank you for making this video. You just allowed me to use Wires X. I’m using the 56 cable in Direct. I made 8 or 9 contacts from my truck with only my laptop, my FTM-400XDR, and my WI-FI.
Hey, I am an Extra and have been licensed for over 40 years, I just learned something from you, Thank You. Please do not stop at Tech at least get your general!
Hi Scott, your video helped me out tremendously. I must say that there are a ton of videos out there that mislead operators - you video is not one of them. Thanks to you I am fully operational and enjoying my Wires-X. 73's.
Thank you for this video! I recently got a FTM-400XDR .and have been trying to figure out how to get it to work with Wires-X, since I don't have a 'spot or local (enough) reflectors to connect to. Once I got past the boot mode you described, the rest was cake. Thanks again!
I want to thank you for the video you just taught me something I just bought an xdr myself and I had no idea that the Box the wires box was already inside the radio the old radio you had to buy the box to hook up to it but it's already included in the newer XTR model thank you very much for the video it was very informative have a great holiday k2csx Mark New York City
Thank you for doing the video I'm finally getting this thing sorted out. Currently running my FTM 400 direct to the laptop, listening in on America's Link now. Only issue I'm having is I get disconnected every couple minutes it seems. Anyway, we are making progress ! 73 Mike N2MWL
Just discovered your channel and now I’m a new Subscriber. I finally became a Technician in 1992 and now you have taught me something I never knew about my FTM -400 & wires x ! Thanks very much you have motivated me to get it working again especially the Wires X features. Hopefully we might meet in one of the ROOMS ! When I looked at the transcript your Callsign was scrambled in my opinion. What is it? 73 Steve AA4SH
Thanks for the video. I just bought the FTM-400, will have it sometime next week. I'm interested in using the Wires X but don't have a repeater anywhere nearby. I was assuming I had to get a hotspot (I'm sure you probably can do it that way too) but nice to see no hot spot necessary. This is a great hobby, enjoy and Happy New Year. Dave - KD2LMR
Nice video. Subscribed too. I wanted to learn more about Wires-X and this helps. I have FTM-300D, but the principle is the same (just have to lookup the button presses - even easier!). I also have a Lenovo laptop. My SCU-40 comes with the additional analog cables. Interesting that there is a "smart" headphone socket but no separate Mic socket on the Lenovo. I did find out that the socket can be a Mic or a Headphone and when using a headset both. So I have to buy a cheap 4 pin plug to two sockets to use the analog part of the SCU-40 e.g. to use with an analog HT as well. HRI-200 was my first choice until I read that it doesn't (so I read) allow a direct connection like the SCU-40 (or SCU-20). Coming from an HF radio, I didn't like the preprogrammed aspect of DMR and the FTM-300D (like 400) allows regular VFO usage and discovery, which makes it a similar experience. With an external antenna I have access to lots of repeaters on Fusion and also analog, but I still wanted the Wires-X because local users are limited. 73, Simon
Clarification! I now have my Ftm-400xdr operating direct using the SCU-20 cable no HRI-200 needed and able to use it as a gateway radio for my Ft-70D. The mystery is that Yaesu requires upgrading the firmware of the 400 and SCU-20 the wires-x software for this to happen making the HRI-200 unnecessary!
Nice video. Not sure what is going on here though. "Not found the audio device for the Wires-X use", I can't connect to any rooms (greyed out) and the check port tool is greyed out.
It was good but doesn't answer lots of questions I still have. I want to transmit to a repeater locally and connect. I can't get any audio. It's very confusing. Can you tell me where I can start from total square 1 ?? It's all new to me. THANK YOU !!!!
Do you leave the antenna connected or into a dummy load ??? Does direct pass the power to off???? Are you required to enter a UHF freq to use this ?? I am a beginning beginner. There are lots of basics not shown. Can you help please ????
Eric quick question:-----loved the video--i have the 400XD and when i push the right bottom knob to go direct---nothing happens-----will the XD not go direct?????? Thanks, Steve
I know it's been a year since you created this video but congrats on getting your license. I'm curious to know if you have played around with the "news" feature in wires-x?
Great Video.... made something I felt so complicated...simple and easy. I just bought the 400 and it came with the cable so I am looking good. My question is where did you get the program on your computer? Is it a D/L? Name? Thanks again!
The extra audio cable is needed for analog stations that are using dig/analog nodes. Without the cable you wont hear the analog stations on those rooms
i see your not using the new cable with the audio interface how did you connect to rooms like america link which are multi mode my radio wont connect ?
LOST for sure. I AM USING ONLY a FTM400XDR and CP - have the SCU20 drivers setup - BUT am lost for knowing how to hookup to WIRES X - Don't know where the SOFTWARE page is? IS it only if using HRI200 - I am wanting to use PDN - not using HRI200. What do I need to know - Thanks - Mike in AZ

Instablaster...
Thanks for the video. I have a 400 but have not given Wires-x a shot yet. Would have if I'd have known it was this easy and could use the SCU20 cable.

I'd love to talk about your settings. I used your video to connect my 400xdr to Wires. I can connect but can not hear other stations nor transmit.
Yes! Thank you for not showing the actual cable connections from the FTM-400 to the HRI-200, sarcasm intended! That is the great mystery for folks!

How do you get out of wiresx. My radio is stuck in it
Great video. I found this very helpful.

Genius video. Thank you
Nice Video thank you! Can you do a video on how to connect the FTM400XDR to a local repeater to use WiresX?
If you don’t use wiresx can you still connect to fcs rooms just being connected to your laptop.
I know it's been a year since you created this video but congrats on getting your license. I'm curious to know if you have played around with the "news" feature in wires-x?
Hey I have 2 ftm-400’s and I have set up my personal node just need to find out how to connect to it from my mobile
Can you do a video on how you set it up to scan the fire and police bands I can not figure it out. Keep up the good work
I wonder if my ft-991A will do this as well?
BUT.. Can you dual band repeat in Wires x. Could u have a regular analog HT out in the yard and listen to the shack radio on wires X? Im guessing no.
Well done my friend,
Great Video.... made something I felt so complicated...simple and easy. I just bought the 400 and it came with the cable so I am looking good. My question is where did you get the program on your computer? Is it a D/L? Name? Thanks again!
The SCU-40 kit has an extension to the SCU-20 with Audio cables built in. How can the audio work with just the SCU-20 alone on your set up?
The extra audio cable is needed for analog stations that are using dig/analog nodes. Without the cable you wont hear the analog stations on those rooms
Eric nice video when i push the button for direct it does nothing any thoughts
Thanks!
i see your not using the new cable with the audio interface how did you connect to rooms like america link which are multi mode my radio wont connect ?
like your vidieo i got it all set up and connecting but not hearing anyone ..sound cards working any ideas thank you n6rip 73

LOST for sure.
I AM USING ONLY a FTM400XDR and CP - have the SCU20 drivers setup -
BUT am lost for knowing how to hookup to WIRES X - Don't know where the SOFTWARE page is?
IS it only if using HRI200 - I am wanting to use PDN - not using HRI200.
What do I need to know - Thanks - Mike in AZ
You need to register your 400 or 100 with yeasu for an ID , install the software and chose personal node with that id , it will pickup the radio
the separate radio is no longer needed?
Gilbert Garza Jr no you need to download the firmware updates and a few other things. Go to yaesu TH-cam page
