Some tourist attractions in China will take photos for you and give you a small photo for free(included in ticket). This is why they give you a key ring. The key ring is used to hold the small photo. But if you think the photo is good, you can buy a larger photo. They print the photos so that many people will buy them, but it is not necessary, thats why they told you ‘’no money‘’ before.
Ah that makes sense! I didn’t see anywhere to get the little photo (I think I wasn’t the only one as there were many empty keychains thrown around outside) - would have loved to have got that too! Either way, I will at least put one of the photos on my computer desk as a memory so it’s nice 😊
Great work RB. So wonderful to see these towns off the beaten track. If you get the chance, check out Sanya (island of Hainan). Its China's Hawaii. Just got to be careful the coconuts falling from the trees don't hit you on the head. The beaches are superb.
Thank you Rob! I was very tempted to check out Sanya on this trip but couldn’t make it work unfortunately but will absolutely check it out the next time. Have to say, I like the idea of dodging coconuts on a sandy beach 🏖️ 😅
i watched your video in chinese web and thought you are really different from other youtuber. Many people only see the best side of China and only appreciate it ,while some people only see the worst side. But as a peaple who are born in China, i think you are the only youtuber i found who look at both side. Acctually i think you record the real life in China
Aha I’m still trying to juggle using a friends laptop to do the editing - hoping my new one comes next week! I do have some footage from a visit I took into the mountains but unfortunately the fog was so insanely thick I’m not sure I can use any of it. Maybe I’ll make a shorter video, but it’ll be tricky. Thanks for your support and watching! 🙏
You have a great artistic intuition. There are indeed a lot supernatural stories and poems related to this kind of clouds and mist in Chinese literature. Even we have a mature genre called 山水画 that uses these graceful mountain clouds and mist as its painting content
Painters also created a characteristic technique called '留白' for this genre, which uses blank spaces left to depict clouds and mist. You can browse some ancient works here. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shan_shui Very vivid, in my personal opinion.
I saw your video on the Chinese video app Bilili, it's very interesting, and you're also very cute. You, who are not very willing to communicate with locals, have been wandering in the most lively scenes. Another question, don't you eat staple food? You're such a snack prince
what a pity, you didn't go rafting, it's the most fun I've had in Yangshuo, taking in the scenery on a bamboo raft. that the most beautiful view in Yangshuo. btw,I love your humour, super cute^
It's actually not a total scam. You don't have to buy the ticket but a lot of tourists buy out of politness. Just don't accept any service if you don't want to pay. But if you are not told about the price before service you can always refuse to pay. If they force you, file a complaint it to the local tourism bureau. The hotel staff will help you do it.
Definitely recommend it and it’s worth checking out the Impression of Liu Sanjie night show. Probably even better if you understand the language but still great either way!
As a Chinese, I can tell you about that shop, taking photos for you is free of charge, but you no need pay it if you don't want the photos, they will not force you to buy it.
It’s a really cool little town. Lots of shops to explore and the scenery around the town is just so beautiful. On a warm day it would be so nice to just chill and take it slowly around!
Welcome to travel, I came to youtube to subscribe after watching you on bilibili, those videos directly reproduced on bilibili have no income, some people have made Chinese translations so that there will be a little income but overall compared to youtube income is very small, I suggest that you can say your name in the middle of the video and let everyone subscribe here, which is much better than putting it at the end of the video in the form of text. A lot of people don't get to see TH-cam videos directly, so some people who see them will repost some videos for this reason, and I hope it won't affect your trip. I also recommend that you use a translation software when you can't understand the text or the conversation. Finally, I wish you a pleasant trip.
Hey! Thanks for watching here 🙏 🤩 I’ve tried to add a watermark to my latest video but I think that’s the best I can do for now, I’m pretty sure it’ll be reposted to bilibili no matter what 😂 Let’s see if it makes any changes but for now I just hope you enjoyed the video. The trip so far is beyond my expectations!
If you dont understand what the chinese people say, you can use translater with your phone, to communite with each other, so that you will have less mislead or misunderstanding. chinese people are very nice, dont get them wrong.
Yeah, I went in the same tourist office, and asked if they had any maps in English.. They didn’t. And didn’t seem to care to communicate anything to me. 😅
I love your real and casual style. Though I think you spent too much time in the commercial area, as a Chinese, I would avoid spending money in scenic spots especially the acient/commercial town/street, because most of them are built to fool tourists😂. The real local products are often in places that looks normally.
@@ramblingbard Yes most famous ancient towns are commercial now and all the "local" items they sell you can find cheaper online or in wholesale markets. Although I think china do have many valuable acient scenic spots worth exploring, it needs to collect more information about china history for preparation. Checking where the true ancient architectures are located on the internet could be useful. So it's hard for foreigners who have no experience😂. Whatever, don't spend money at the scenic spots always safer.Hope you could enjoy the journey !
@@zackk7175 This is normal in china, because most people need to work. Usually the scenic spots are only busy in public holidays, people would travel intensively during that time.
I thought about that but feel like it would be too weird on the videos, maybe randomly throughout for a moment or two. Or I guess I have to live that out there there are thieves and no ways to stop them really. Just hope that people realise I, an Irish guy, am not posting my videos to bilibili or douyin 😂
Yeah sadly that’s true. Or maybe design and make a pin showing TH-cam and your face as a brand sticking to your clothes or bag so every time you show up that thing is right there as eternal watermark. No way they can cut the whole video😂 That’s the best I can think of man. Good luck!
Oh no it’s okay 😊 They were funny and joking mostly, in the end I have the photos and I’m happy I got them! You’re lucky to live in such a beautiful place by the way!
Yeah, he already said no money. You didn't rent the emperor's clothes, so you don't have to pay for the photo. If you visit the Great Wall by cable car, they will also take pictures for you, if you don't want it, just leave, no problem

that's not a pot hahaha😂. it's called 元宝yuanbao, a kind of currency made by gold or silver in ancient time. Nowadays it's a symbol of wealth.
