There's a website called personality database that is a user created database of celebrities, fictional characters, etc. People seem to know what they're saying and they say Mario's and ESFP.
6:15 There's also the time in Super Paper Mario where they did the same joke with Merlumina. In fact, if you're the kind of player to enjoy sidequests, it can happen TWICE in that game.
Examining (mostly) silent protagonists is always fascinating to me. It’s amazing how the writers or animators can make a character come off a certain way just with context or body language. I would love to see further exploration of this with other characters like Link.
found you through your Slay the Princess video and my girlfriend and I have been watching all of your uploads since. Great channel and I wish you the best (may the algorithm bless you again)
I took the Myers Briggs test in college and got ENFJ, I’m glad I share a 1/4 of my personality with Mario 😎 nice research! Now it has me thinking about other Nintendo characters personality types, like Link lol
Awesome video! I’d love to see Luigi’s personality type evaluated too (maybe it would be easier because he seems to express much more emotion than Mario)
Awesome video ! Im really into MBTI (Im ENFP) and i think you did great ! Cognitive functions are the most relevant way to guess a personality type, so it's great that ylu talked about it ! I would love to see a video like this for other characters !
At the beginning of the video I reviewed what the letters meant and went "You know, I think Mario is an ESFP". Whelp, time to officially say that spending a copious amount of time playing my favorite series payed off in the end!
I have never heard someone actually say auxiliary aloud before and use the American pronunciation. The British pronunciation is the only one that makes sense to me either, and I'm American too.
I'm glad you mentioned the cognitive functions, because the letters were actually an afterthought to Carl Jung's cognitive functions theory, and thus, can often confuse people. As for what type you are, I don't like the idea of judging someone's type solely on a TH-cam video, as you could easily put on a persona, but the fact that you've been so thorough on figuring out the personality type of someone who hardly speaks, as well as using a *lot* of external sources, meaning you're probably an Ne user, or what I call an Extroverted Intuitive, meaning you're likely an NFP, based on how the functions would be arranged. I hope you'll eventually put out a video on which type you are, cause I love hearing how you explain your reasoning!
So I took all of the tests for myself after I got done with this and for Michael Caloz I got INTJ, for 16Personalities I got INFP, for Keys2Cognition I got ENFP, and for PersonalityMax I got ISFP 💀💀 And I was WAY too mentally exhausted from making this video to sit down and personally go over all of the process combinations again to see which one fit me 😅 But it's fun to hear the thoughts of someone who knows the system! Each test cemented by belief that the truly best way is to sit down with a live test administrator and talk to them like a therapist, because I wanted to give a disclaimer or clarify SO many of the questions! 😝 Maybe that in and of itself is a great indicator 😁
That's a possibility, but another thing to consider is the eight-function approach, which takes into account the entire function stack, beyond just the first and second. If you know what the seventh and fourth functions mean, that can easily narrow it down to about two types! After I typed that comment, I looked at the types of videos you made, and, again, taking into account there might be a persona, it seemed like you are probably an ENFP. You seem to make a lot of "What If?" content, and even your channel description is all about asking deep questions, which is a strong indictor of Extroverted Intuition (Ne), which would eliminate INTJ and ISFP, and you also back up your statements with facts and research, which means Extroverted Thinking... which all four of those types use, so that's probably where the confusion came from, haha! Since INFPs use Extroverted Thinking in the fourth, it makes ENFP even more likely, since you seem to be using it a lot, whereas an INFP would have more statements about the past. FP in general seems to fit with how you responded to this comment, because you used a lot of extreme emojis, which is typical of types with developed Introverted Feeling. Long story short, assuming I'm not going off of the "persona theory," ask yourself if your first priority is checking in with your personal feelings and values, or is it imagination and new possibilities? Then, after that, the question becomes "Are my biggest weaknesses procrastination and being observant of what's in front of me?" or "Are my biggest weaknesses living by a routine and critiquing logical consistency?" If it's the first of both possibilities, you're an INFP, and the second, you're an ENFP! Hope that helps! : D
@@goombanna I'm an INTJ and I obviously can't say for sure, but I don't think you are an INTJ. You seem far too upbeat, outgoing, and approachable lol. INTJs are the sit quietly in the corner of the room such that others kinda just forget you are even there type. I honestly kind of think most INTJs wouldn't even do youtube videos with themselves personally on camera, we are more likely to make long video essays about some idea but kind of divorce any sense of our own identity from that video.
I'm glad we've got someone asking all the important questions. Realtalk: I gotta agree with ESFP. I would've personally gone with ESTP but that's not any of the results we got, and you know him better than I do. None of the others feel right, so I'm agreeing with your conclusion.
I remember talking a lot about MBTI especially during college days. If you've heard of the Enneagram personality test, maybe that could be a follow up video?
I feel like I know Mario's personality based on the cut scenes. Except for being condescending, the stuff on the screen listed for protagonist seem to fit. Despite being born and raised in Houston, Texas, I've only ever said or heard people say "auxiliary" the apparent British way. I'm thinking that's the Texacan way, the hood way, and the Texan way.
I think this is fun, but there are major issues. 2 of the websites you use sort the types by creating 4 binaries, while some use the functions. These two methods are not directly compatible (even though they can give similar results). Extraversión, in the binary tests, measures if they like being with others or alone (simplified, I know). But in the function tests, the first letter simply tells you if their primary function is extraverted or introverted. Since the functions have nothing to do with being alone or with others, the first letter is being used to measure sonething completely different.
I should mention that MBTI is about as scientific as determining your Hogwarts house. Neither of the creators of the MBTI were actually psychologists (they had degrees in agriculture and political science respectively). The test relies heavily on the Barnum effect and confirmation bias, and the traits that are supposed to be dichotomies aren't necessarily mutually exclusive. The clear distinction between 16 different types would imply that most people are located on the extremes, but most people are actually somewhere in the middle (like we found in this video that Mario is actually in the middle of two of the scales). Also, trying to divide humanity into 16 distinct types is just pointless. Humans are far too complicated for that. Most serious psychologists prefer to use the Big Five personality traits, a.k.a. the OCEAN model.
Sorry, but IMO you are being far too dismissive of it. You are able to both make predictions and achieve relative consistency across tests for MBTI. You can't do that for something that is nonsense. Humanity is complicated yes, but keeping in mind that it is 4 spectrums you can find out a lot about a person and make good predications about them just from knowing their MBTI. Particularly if you also know their place on each spectrum. Does any test capture 100% of what a person's character or personality is? No. But does MB capture a lot in just 4 dimensions? Yes. And a lot more than something like Hogwarts house or something that is purely fictional.
You sure the British isn’t ogziLEEaree? 😏 fr though, I’m pretty sure my (american) parents always said ogZILaree. I even forgot it was spelled that way.
Mario would take a "What Super Mario character are you" personality quiz and find out he's a Yoshi.
My favorite example of Mario talking is from Mario & Luigi, when he talks in gibberish Italian and it sounds like "Batiddipitipidillato" and so on

ESFP = Extra Super Fabulous Person! Fits for Mario... and for YOU, Anna! :-)
Spot the Luigi TH-cam account
He’s a noble heroic selfless wholesome guy
How’s that not a personality
That's also how I say "auxiliary"
I've been saying auxiliary the Bri'ish way my whole life, apparently.
I didn't even know there was another way to say it until now.
6:15 There's also the time in Super Paper Mario where they did the same joke with Merlumina. In fact, if you're the kind of player to enjoy sidequests, it can happen TWICE in that game.
That was an impressive amount of detail put into a relatively insignificant question. Impressed.
Who needs a personality when you have a stache like that tbh
You should do Link’s personality type next! The man gradually gets more and more personality every time a game comes out
I’m American and I’ve never heard people pronounce auxiliary in that “US” way

For the "struggling under a time limit" question, there's a HIGHLY serious time limit in Super Paper Mario, you could analyze that.
found you through your Slay the Princess video and my girlfriend and I have been watching all of your uploads since. Great channel and I wish you the best (may the algorithm bless you again)
What a great video. I've never seen analysis at this level done for Mario. Well done, Anna!
(Last time I did an MBTI test, I was an ISFJ)

Always amazed by the amount of research AV puts into her work. Shout out to her for that, awesome vid, gonna go check out these tests too!
As long as you remember 2:27 😅
I’ve heard more people in US use the British pronunciation
Awesome video! I’d love to see Luigi’s personality type evaluated too (maybe it would be easier because he seems to express much more emotion than Mario)
6:18 it happens in TTYD too!! whenever luigi tells a story about his adventures Mario and his respective partner (besides Bobbery) fall asleep
Awesome video !

3:50 i take personality tests for characters all the time and i relate to this so hard
Speed running the test with only Agree answers and finding it gave the same result 😙👌 That's our Grandfather, the Scientist!
👴🧪
Don't know how you come up with these videos but they're Alway great . And you are awesome.
At the beginning of the video I reviewed what the letters meant and went "You know, I think Mario is an ESFP".
Whelp, time to officially say that spending a copious amount of time playing my favorite series payed off in the end!
tbh all of the personality types fit him pretty well
Thank you for this hard work keep it up you’re truly appreciated!
This reminds me of a video I watched a while back that argued that Mario is a complete asshat by highlighting all the shitty things he did.
I have never heard someone actually say auxiliary aloud before and use the American pronunciation. The British pronunciation is the only one that makes sense to me either, and I'm American too.

@@goombanna I took mine on "Human Metrics". I then did research on my type to see if the quirks lined up, and they fit me to a T. =)

Mamma Mia! You can tell soooooo much research went into this 👀 bravo!! 👏
When it comes to anything Mario, I trust you more than anyone. Good job and great video.👍
Much love as always Anna, great video
500+ questions to try and figure Mario's personality type... your too cute.
Anna needs to do this for Pokémon characters
I'm glad we've got someone asking all the important questions.

I think ESFP is the most likely type. I’d have a hard time seeing Mario as any other type if I’m being honest.

Doing the most to make sure Anna hits the algorithm 😎
Love this! ^^ I'm actually INFJ. Explains why my lonely feat lol. 😅 Anyways, you always make these video really wonderfully. Take care always, A! 💕💕💕
Hello fellow INFJ. Lean on God and don't give up. :)
Mario or Marisue? Answering that question is up to you.
Almost the opposite of me, INTP
wait, you're telling me that the second i in auxiliary isn't silent?
Love from Belgium 🇧🇪 ❤

Nice, now do it for Yoshi
I like to imagine you're saying this while pointing a gun at me
**dramatic gun cock** what makes you say that?
I see Yoshi as an ESFJ.

Myers-Briggs, unfortunately, turned out to be poor science and is generally regarded as just above astrology at this point.
