    I could go on all day about how much I love this band. They are, in my humble opinion, the best metal band at the moment. They hit on all the types of metal I love from traditional metal to power metal to thrash but they have their own style. Their transition in songs is mindblowing. I always considered KK Downing./Glenn Tipton and Dave Murray/Adrian Smith as the best dual guitarists ever. I put these two gals right up there with them. Their skill level is crazy good and they complement each other perfectly. Please listen/react to Break The Wall (live version). They go from thrash to melodic sols to intense playing. It shows off everything I love about them.

    Miho (bass) is the band founder and is a very nice girl. She lost her dad a few years ago, so she misses him a lot still. He used to bring her to concerts when young. Miyako (right g) is a bonafide classically trained concert pianist from age of 4. She has a BA in music education on piano (piano is her first and primary instrument). She only picked up guitar at age of 18. (They are all in late 20's). Oh, and she composes more than 50% of all their music. So yeah, she is quiet and stoic on stage due to her classical training. But, off stage she is really personable. Check out her personal channel. (Just type Miyako channel).

    OK, "OldSkuleNerd". You brought it up, so I'm going to go all "guitar nerd" on you! Yes, Midori has a very classic "shredder" technique. She rotates her hand perpendicular to the fretboard as she moves up the neck to give her maximum reach. Miyako's technique is very different. I'm guessing it's because she's a classically trained concert pianist, so guitar is her 2nd instrument (believe it or not). She approaches the fretboard at an angle all the way up the neck. This gives her maximum strength for deep bends, which she needs because her finger choices for certain techniques are a bit unorthodox. Not saying she's "incorrect". In fact, it's what makes her style so cool and unique to her.
    Midori and Miho play ESP guitars exclusively. Kanami and Miku of Band Maid play exclusively PRS and Zemaitis guitars respectively. Nothing rare. Once a guitarist creates a name for himself/herself, they often acquire an endorsement from a guitar brand. Even unknown guitarists can be very loyal to a given brand. Miyako is primarily a Dean girl, and she has three different models she'll use for different applications. But for choice songs, she'll choose the Gibson Les Paul. The Les Paul has a shorter scale length, so the strings carry less tension relative to pitch. This, combined with the PAF derivative pickups give the Les Paul a signature thick, fat tone and high harmonic content. I'm an old "weekend warrior" in his 50s playing classic rock covers in beer joints. For the '80s "shredder" stuff, I use a high performance Ibanez. But for the more classic '70s stuff, I switch to the Les Paul. So you're right. It seems Miyako has done a lot of experimentation and chooses her weapons accordingly.
    Disclaimer: Both these ladies are pros and can blow this old man out of the water!......not to mention they're WAY cuter!

      I also think one of the differences between Midori and Miyako in terms of technique and style is that Midori attended the highly regarded Musicians Institute Japan in Osaka to learn to play the guitar (after dropping out from university while studying Pharmacology for two years) and Miyako is self taught. To me it seems as if she approaches the guitar fretboard like a piano keyboard.

    This song shows they are having fun on stage, but seriously you need to see Miyako (black haired guitarist) playing the piano.
    Edge Of The World, Swan Song and Epilogue show the beauty of Asami's vocals(with Miyako piano too). "Holy War" is the perfect power metal song produced in 2020

    Miho the bassist and Haruna the drummer are the founding members. They played in a band called Destrose, that is worth a listen too. Destrose was a band from 2012 to 2014.

    • @overtheedge4711
      @overtheedge4711 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually Destrose was around from 2005 until 2015. Eye & Saki (from Mary's Blood) were in the band between 2007-2010 and Mary's Blood formed with all ex-Destrose members (although two of them didn't stay in Mary's Blood long--Saki had actually left Destrose for an alt rock band called Mixx in 2010 and was a replacement in Mary's Blood, as she was in Destrose). Haruna was drummer from 2012-2014 and quit due to marriage. Miyo was there from 2011 to 2015 when the band played their final show. Apparently, Haruna decided she could be a drummer & a wife (or possibly is no longer married) and her & Miyo formed Lovebites shortly thereafter.

    the right guitarist, miyako, is a classically trained musician. she started out as a classical pianist actually, and got into metal and guitar later-
    P.S. my favorite lovebites song is edge of the world, i think it shows their versatility really well. also tho all their songs are in english that live video has subtitles (since her accent is pretty strong) and the lyrics are GOOD. also you can see miyako play piano~~

      @@markshove4748 From the way she plays, I have to wonder if there was some violin training back there somewhere. When kids are very promising on classical piano they will often get some training on a stringed instrument so they get some familiarity with how things sound and are played.

    Great reaction. What you will learn from these talented ladies are their stage presence, as you mentioned a lot. Here are the names of the members: Asami (vocals) came from an R/B background and yes this is her first metal band. Miho (Bass) is the co-leader of the band and she does wear shorts under that skirt (funny camel toe joke). All the girls wear shorts underneath. Midori (guitarist and Ariana Grande look) she is the most aggressive guitar player. Miyako (guitarist and the one that scares you) is more of calm, cool relaxed player. One of her favorite guitar players is Gary Moore and she likes to play more with feeling than being aggressive. And yes she does most of the writing of the songs. And of course the demon drummer Haruna. There is nothing else more to say about her, her drumming talks for her. Personality traits are that they are really humble, bashful at times and they still get very nervous before a performance so yeah it will show them standing still, but they will loosen up. So hopefully this will help. But do some more, this band does play what we used to listen to before.

  • @JFrancoDrums
    @JFrancoDrums 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Hey, great reaction! You are totally on point, they have different personalities, Midori (blonde) is all about the flashy style of playing, a shredder at heart for sure, while Miyako (black hair) is more cerebral type of player, and she is the one composing most of their music, although all the band pitches in on the process.
    Check out Break the Wall, Edge of the World, Swan Song (with piano intro), all Live.
    Thank you and stay safe!

  • @treejjp
    @treejjp 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Miyako (the quiet one with LesPaul) is a classically trained pianist so you would assume she would sound like Malmsteen. The truth is that her sound is more in line with Gary Moore's bluesy sound and Eddy Van Halen's crunchy sound with multi string tapping. Her usual Dean guitar is perfect for the style. On the other hand, Midori has more traditional shredding style with classical phrasing like Malmsteen with flashy brilliance of Paul Gilbert. Her custom ESP is so perfect for her. And both of them can play exotic scale and perfectly accurate style of Marty Friedman. LoveBites might be the best metal band today period!!! Welcome to the wolfpack. You gotta do Rising, Swan Song, Holy War, Crusades and Shadow Maker. Peace ✌

You were talking about Midori and Miyako, and you compared Midori to Kirk Hammett and Miyako to Eddie Van Halen. Then you felt compelled to say you're not saying Midori or Miyako is better than Hammett or Van Halen. Why throw that in? I have no problem saying that M&M measure up to anyone so I wouldn't of been afraid to hurt someone's feelings. One thing I will say with 100% certainty is that M&M ARE the greatest guitar lead duo ever. I mean it. And oh yeah, Miyako is my all time favorite musician, not just my favorite in Lovebites. And I too call her an evil genius. I'm an introvert, and whether Miyako is or isn't one (she appears to be one), it's probably one of the reasons I just connect with her.

    Talking about Maiden, yes, bassist Miho is a Maiden fan.
    Vocalist Asami reminds me of Bruce Dickinson the way she sings.
    And tiny Haruna on drums is a powerhouse !
    Check their song "The Crusade" and you'll get that Maiden vibe for sure, it's basically a tribute. If you're familiar with Maiden you'll get fast which song was the influence 😀
    Not sure there's a good live version but you can check the MV (just not the one saying TH-cam version, it's cut!)
    Other recommendations are Holy War or Swan song, from the same live you checked previous both songs 😉

    There is no doubt that Lovebites are the real deal. You should react to 'Holy War', 'Break the Wall' and 'Swan' from this concert. All videos are up on TH-cam/ What is really interesting is that both guitarists started playing the guitar at a relatively late age. Modori (blond on the left playing the ESP now about thirty) left univerosty at the age of twenty and started to learn only then. Miyako (black hair on the right playing the Dean) has spent the first twenty-seven of her thirty years studying classical piano to concert performance level. (In this concert she plays Chopins's Edude Opus 10 Number 12 as the introduction to 'Swan Song'.) At the same time as studying classical piano, at the age of eighteen she began to teach herself to play the guitar.
    Once Midori and Miyako were reasonably competant they both joined all female metalcore bands. Midori was in the band Gekijo Metalicche and Miyako was a member of A Drop of Joker. In 2014 both of them were identified as future stars. When she joined Lovebites Miyako researched how she could achieve rhe heaviest sound choosing Dean guitars played through a Peavey 6505 amp head with an Orange cab. She modified her Dean Icon with Fishman pick-ups. The other Dean she plays is a Dean ML, the same guitar played by Dimebag Darrell of Pantera. Dean have made a Miyako Signature Dean Flying V with Fishman pick-ups and Floyd Rose tremelo arm. It is very unusual to see her playing a Gibson Les Paul. She also occasionally plays a Telecaster styled guitar which she and her guitar tech built together.

    Yes, there's no nonsense about Miyako. She's like the John Entwistle (RIP bassist of The Who) of the band. She gets the job done in superlative fashion without wasted movements. By the way, Miyako is a classically trained pianist just as John Entwistle was also a classically trained pianist before taking up bass guitar.

    Nice reaction mate yeah Midori the blonde hair guitarist she is inspired by guitarists like Yngwe Malmsteen and Kiko Loureiro ( ex Angra member and current Megadeth member). Miyako the other guitarist she is inspired by Gary Moore and Richi Blackmore. About Miho the bassist she wants some day to become good like Steve Harris Iron Maiden bassist. About Asami her inspiration is Aretha Franklin. And in the end Mighty Haruna she likes Halloween drummer Ingo Schwichtenberg ( hi past away in 1995). So now you can check the song Signs of deliverance, this song got some surprise for you. Also Swan song but one at the time. Enjoy it

    haha...Micasa, close enough - her name is MIYAKO, you will never forget that name, she is the silent assassin in the band, just like Misa in Band-Made))) None of these girls is a musician by share happenstance, they all have a formal musical, classical training. Miyako never had a string instrument in her hands, not before she was 18, she is a piano player, classically trained. See her in "Burden Of Time" - she plays piano and guitar simultaneously))) how cool is that))) Also, check out "Shadowmaker" live from their Zepp Tokyo gig "Five of a Kind" these ladies not only harmonize perfectly but they synched their tapping too...oops, spoiler alert))) don't waste your time with music videos, live only, they are awesome, just like Band-Maid, both bands are only worth seeing live))) if you think that's the best song you've ever seen, wait and see till you watch Shadowmaker live from the same show...enjoy)))

  • @siscob
    @siscob 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I actually enjoyed your reaction.
    They play various styles including ballads - Epilogue is one of the best ballads, Empty Daydream, Swan Song, Under the Red Sky, Edge of the World and dual guitar overhand tapping in perfect sync - Signs of Deliverance Zepp version.
    Now Miyako - the one that scares you is classical pianist and yes, she does write half of their songs, but they all do and they all write lyrics and multi-instrumentalists. She is also more of Gary Moore, as I stated in the previous comment. She is my favourite guitarist and in my opinion one of if not the best musician that exists. You'll see it once you go through approximately 5 songs and confirm the following: Like some stated in previous comments and most likely will in future, and I boldly confirm: Lovebites is the best band out there.

    Good analysis. Thunder Vengeance for me has more metal energy, this song closer to hard rock, but whichever. This one is less technical allowing them to run (heels? No prob), and less serious, just a party song, swaggin, “who’s that chick, jammin on guitar? ... who’s that chick, I’m the voice, it’s gonna knock you out”. For Asami’s voice, check Edge of the World, or Epilogue, or Empty Daydream. Btw, you’re pretty much right about the evil genius Mikasa (Miyako)but blonde Chrissy (Midori) would eat Kirk for breakfast, she’s a technical beast & speed demon. They’re explicit that their rule of thumb is that she takes the chaotic shreddy all over the place thrash solos, and Miyako gets the bluesy sonic & soulful ones, tho they switch, and Miyako can tap, “like nobody’s business”...

    the way you described Midori and Miyako is too perfect, its like you done your research before because you hammered it right into the point, how the hell did you get it this right without knowing, the thing is "scary" Miyako as you called her is trained pianist, from 3 yold and one day she picked up a guitar and this happened

    I love the sound of this band.... instrumentally. I can't grasp the singer. And it probably, well more than probably, has a lot to do with I was never really a big Iron Maiden-esque fan? I think it would probably have helped if she WASN'T singing in English and instead in Japanese. I enjoy the intonation of the language in rock and metal. But anyway.... yeah I love Miyako.... the "evil genius" guitarist. LOL She reminds me of Misa from Band-Maid. Just quiet... roaming around the stage.... no posturing.... but at the same time just shredding on her guitar. Letting her instrument do the talking for her. And Haruna is just a tiny little Energizer battery back there on drums.
