South Africa has this thing called "Loadshedding" basically our electricity system is stuffed and they are putting us into state-controlled blackouts. We use inverters and battery "generators" such as these to keep things going, wi-fi and communications are the main thing. Travelling and holidaying without your inverter resulted in the acquisition of the 1st generation EcoFlow River Max to just keep the basic electrical things usable during 2 to 4 hour rolling blackouts ranging from TWO hours to TWELVE hours in a single day. Since the 6th of September 2022 I think there has been only ONE whole day without a "loadshedding" schedule. SO these battery Generators have become an essential tool to keep functioning "normally". And NOW South Africa is going into winter so the expectation is to have at least 6 to 8 hours a day of NO power. Thanks for always being informative. I would eventually love to add a solar panel to the EcoFlow I have..
Oh wow! We have load shedding as well, but you can volunteer for it, and you get a small discount on your bill. They only control large appliances like ovens and dishwashers.
We retired in our RV. To us, the River 2 pro is everything! Most times we can't crank up the gas generator, but "Flow" always comes through like the country Kitchen waitress we name her after! She warms our kitchen in the morning, makes our coffee, and recharges for movie night to be a nightly accurence!
Your mention of a deteriorating power grid is very true for us folks in South Africa. We have 3 or 4 scheduled 2 hour blackouts per day, now going up to 4 hour blackouts. Looking at this and the Delta 2 with third party solar as a good options for a minimal appliances like a TV & modern fridge.
I use my Ecoflow River 2 to charge my drone, laptop, cellphone and telescope when I'm off grid, which is most of the time. I recharge it when driving. It's a must have.
Just a rough calculation: Capacity: 768 Wh Consumption: 824W Test time: 43:53 ~ 44 min Nominal time: 768 Wh / 824 W = 0,932 hod (768Wh = 824W * 0,932 hod) 60 min * 0,932 = 55,92 min So it should last 56 min, but it lasted only 44 min. 56 min ~ 100% 44 min ~ ?? 44 / (56/100) = 78% So the efficiency is close to 80% for 824W consumption - can be a lot different for small consumption like 10W USB charger.
Just as long as you don't use radio equipment with the inverter it is very dirty. I use my Bluetti for applications needing a quiet signal but have an Ecoflow for other things.
cpap for grandpa lol I've been using one since i was 24 now 37. Cpap is way more common than most know.. thanks for the video hoping to get one of these for camping for yup you guessed it my cpap.
Great review. I have used our River Max to power our entire fish house. LCD TV’s, DC fans, DC lights etc. Love how fast it recharges. Keep up the great work!
I have my Starlink and security cameras plugged into mine with a 100 ah lifepo4 plugged into the solar port. Gives me more than a full day of power out network infrastructure. Yes it works as a UPS.
Very good review. I would use this for a variety of things. From having a little juice for power outages, keep the internet up and running, to recharging my electronics during power outages (tablet, laptop, phone) to recharging my drone batteries while flying. I also enjoy off-roading and camping with my Jeep, so maybe this could power a mini-fridge, my k-cup coffee maker, and MAYBE a hotplate, though I would probably use propane for that. Great review and keep up the good work here at 51 Drones!
I’m 20 seconds into the video and I had to pause and tell you I fully agree with you not only this and you may see this coming up but I think we’re going to see a gigantic boom in Home energy battery storage. I think this is coming is gonna be the next big thing.
I have a chest freezer full of meat and need a back up power source to run it through unexpected power outages. I will also be getting the Delta 2 max later and the River 2 pro will go in my truck adventures. I am new to solar batteries but from what I’ve watched I’m getting more and more into ecoflow backup batteries
I’ve used it to backup the electronics on my tankless hot water system because every time the power hiccups, I loose the memory and settings. But for longer blackouts I can use it for lights and whatever else I need.
I work in construction and I do a lot of CAD on my computer. however its pretty much dead after 45 min of high intensity use and its not an option to charg it in the car so I will use that as a buffer when I am on site. AND I can charg it in the car while driving without doing some wierd conversion and risk sucking my car batteries dry. Just an awesome little thing!
Great product overview thanks. Would love to see the different models compared and potential use explained as well. I use mine (and yes I am a young granddad) as a power back up for my cpap machine, as we have severe power outages in South Africa, called ‘load shedding’, for up to 12 hrs in a day. It also goes with me in my SUV, everywhere I go, to ensure I have portable power for my drones, laptops, iPads, phones and action camera. It is the single most important item to pack when I travel.
Hi, thanks for your review of the EcoFlow River Pro 2. Here in Laval, near Montreal, Canada, the electricity in my neighborhood is very unreliable. To address this issue, I purchased that River Pro2 along with a 160W EcoFlow solar panel. In the event of the next blackout, I hope to be able to connect my fridge to it, and I'm optimistic that it will help maintain the cold temperature, preventing me from losing all of my food.
I love the Ecoflow River. It powers the herelink remote for the Astro without a voltage drop. Most other power sources drop down to 3 watts and that’s not enough to run continuously.
Camping and powering my wife's CPAP during camping. Will also charge phones, laptop and camera gear. Landscape Photographer so need off grid rechargeable power.
You are so correct about the state of power grid this has been going on for years because we have not keep up with maintaining and just upgrading our power grids.😮 so people will be purchasing these power stations and generators in the next year😊
Great video thanks ! As a tv cameraman i can need power in all sorts of of equipment in different places for different time spans, i have also looked into having a system installed in my car that would void the warranty and be costly to do plus have to do this every-time i change the vehicle. These systems seems to be the logical solution, love the quick charging feature so popping into McDonald's for a coffee would be good. Getting the right capacity is the important part ! I'm needing to charge V-lock camera batteries, power a Starlink and LiveU throughout the day, not forgetting the mobile phone!
I'm always late to the party, so i just bought my OG River last summer and added the expandable battery for $109, so I'm going to stick with that a many years to come. A Delta Pro may prove to be part of our emergency power solution, however. I like the concept of running the home from that and charging the Delta Pro from a generator during daytime hours for a multi-day outage.
A broom stick or pole attached lengthwise to the panel across the back, the panel mounted on a capable enuf lazy Susan type construction so it can be easily rotated toward the sun.
Hot climate here during Summer, so just in case we have rolling blackouts this Summer, my EcoFlow River 2 700 will run my little 305 watt Coolzy aircon for a bit over 2 hours at the full blast setting. I admit it would struggle with running the more traditional portable or split system aircon for very long, because they have a higher power draw. Also convenient for overnight trips or day trips, to recharge my various devices, which includes a couple more wearable cooling devices. I'm going to try out charging it from my car, too, which could be another hugely beneficial feature.
Hi Russ I know vide is about old, however I was in Sams Club South Fl, This unit is $269. as of today, rememdered you did reviews, so I will be getting one, will use for charging drone natteries mostly or phone, keep up good reviews,
I made my own power supply with a 24v 50ah renogy lifepo4 battery, a rigid tool box and a victron charger. I think all in it cost about 800 cdn. I did a video on it on my channel. I think it helps with the losses we experience on these units. Mine also doesn't have an inverter but it would be pretty easy to add one if you needed one.
I personally need it as an emergency power source when electricity is out at my house. I do need a power station that can atleast power 1 Electric Fan, 1 TV, Charge my phones, keep my laptop running, and keep my router's power on.
Thanks for the great review! I'm planning on buying this unit, there's a good discount right now at Costco! I'd like to mainly use it to keep my home internet working during power outage. On a full charge, any sense of how long this unit could provide power to 1) my combined router/modem and 2) my Surface 5 laptop? Thanks for your advice and keep up the good work, I'm a fan of your channel!
Great video. I’m using it to power my astrophotography equipment and 12v fridge, really enjoying it so far. Hope the 220w solar panel goes on sale again looks good.
I just bought my first power station, River 2, the basic model. Hope it is a good buy also ? I use it in my boat together with my Lifepo4 bank, i plan to have it plugged inn the 12v input in the back, so i can kinda keep recharge it. It is manly charging phones and running Laptop on lets say 230VAC.
in my opinion, i don't care about the wireless charging, i would rather put things on the top without having to charge up the cellphones. im using the ecoflow river 2 pro as a backup for the computer, and tbh, i like it. since i can have it run upwards to 7 to 10 hours of runtime i will be getting the ecoflow river 2 max. since that has much much more time than 10 hours like 24 hours. since my computer isn't running that much wattage like 30 to 100 watts or so. im running 2 moniters atm. right now i have the APC hooked up to the ecoflow river 2 pro, which is another 50 minutes or so, close to an hour. so i can have upwards to 11 hours. im using the ecoflow river 2 pro as a UPS as well too, to power up my tower desktop computer incase theres any power outages!
Very good video. Im looking for a power station solution to charge up 3 pair of M300 batteries, 4 pair of 210v2 batteries... Currently Im using a duel fuel generator for a power supply. Is there a ecoflow power station that can handle all of this drone equipment?
Specifications indicate EcoFlow River storage temperature is -10°C to 45°C (14°F to 113°F), and ideal storage temperature 20° to 30° (68° to 86°). A closed parked car in the sun is a bit like a solar oven, so temperatures inside a parked car can rise to *+30°C (+54°F) above outdoor temperatures* in just 10 minutes. If the outdoor temperatures are a cool below 10°C (50°F), then leaving the battery in the car might be better to keep the battery inside specified storage temperatures, but really best not do that if it's a warm or hot day.
Thanks for the info. I am looking for a power inverter for news gathering cars. I think this would be a better choice. We need to power a laptop and a few LED lights. We like that it can stay in the car and get charged while driving around. Plus when it came time to swap out cars with a new one we could do that our self's and not have to out source it. Working in the northeast we wonder how it would work in the cold. Might try and get one for testing. Thanks
If your cpap supports it, look into a 12v dc to dc adapter to use with the PPS. You’ll easily get 2.5 times more capacity than using AC from your cpap.
I bought it. Happy with it, except for the fan noise. Too much for how I use the River 2 Pro. I saw a video of a guy that changed the fans, but I think that gives warranty issues. If you have a better idea to make the River 2 Pro more silent, please tell!
I am going to buy a portable power station soon. I am undecided if I should buy the 220 w solar panel first then buy the power station second. Any suggestions would help. Ty
I've got the River Mini Series 1 ... Ideal for a days droning with Air2S ... The Max Series 1 could be extended with a bolt on battery underneath. No such thing with series 2.
Russ, I have been thinking and wanting to get one of these for over a year now. I would use it to all my Drone Batts, Camera Batts, Phone, Ipad, I pod. Not to be Tommy downer but I feel that it''s not a matter of if but more a matter of when the grid will go down. My fear is not being able to use all my capture gear above. So yea for me it's would be all about that and of course one other thing. Making Coffee. :)
I just ordered one of these. Being that it takes a lot longer to charge on dc I’m wondering if it is safe to plug my 400w inverter into truck cig lighter and use the AC power from inverter to charge the river? Anyone have any experience doing this?
When you charge it full, do you have to keep it plugged in if you wont use it and want to have it in case of an outage. Will it hold the power if you unplug it?
To answer your question I went over and turned on my EF River 2 Pro that has been turned off for over a month and it is still charged to 99% so the answerer is yes it does hold its charge.
I'm looking to power my garage freezer (420 watts pull) in a power outage situation. Also, a utility pump in case of flooding in my furnace room. You mentioned a couple of times this is for portable and not for emergencies. I'd like more information on why this would not be good for emergencies. ???
We'd be using it for a battery backup. Here in Texas the grid nearly collapsed a few years ago. We were caught off guard without ANY battery backup(who could forsee the entire state would be without power for days!?!?). We were afraid to even use our phones(we didnt even have any small portable chargers). Being able to have enough power for the essentials, will bring us peace of mind.
Our problem in Alberta Canada is lower dollar sky-high shipping and to make solar save money and pay for itself is to cut the grid a hundred twenty dollars per month
Started out with a River 2 and quickly realized...not enough capacity to last a day or two of Winter carCamping/ tentCamping: running two 50w (AC) heating pads, maybe a 200w (AC) micro heater and recharge iPad and phone. Would it make better sense to get two River 2 Pros (1536Wh) or one EF Delta 2 (1024Wh)?
I got it for cold weather camping too. I don't have experience with it yet but a TH-camr used this power station to power the same diesel heater I bought. Good luck out there.
Please I would like to ask: I have a 300 watt 12.5 amp photovoltaic, if I connect it to the ecoflow river 2 pro will it give me 220 watts or will it cut it off completely? Thanks!
I have a 160w EcoFlow solar panel and it works great. I really don't like the case turning into a stand. It is a beautiful case, but the support like you're showing that it changes into just sucks to me. If this just had an optional stand legs that just came out like on the Bluetti and other brands for example which I think are a lot more sturdy would be much better then this. Also, why is there no pouch built into the case to help store a few cables? The cables that come off are way hard and also way short. 3' of cable is pretty janky when others give you over 3 meters of cable to plug into. The charging is great and boy these things are seriously waterproof! I have never seen portable solar panels you see people litterally stick into a river and it charges just fine! That is a huge win for EcoFlow!
Im really wondering how one of these units would perform charging M30T batteries. I need to put together something for field charging during search operations and would like to not use a standard generator.

Mandela was a failure it seems 😢

I use a pool noodle with a slit on top to run the bottom of the panel thru!! 😂😂

Mine just came today 12/1/23 and I will be using it to power my c pap machine, for van camping and a host of other uses … Thanks for the great review
How long does it last when using the cpap?
I watched over 20 videos. Yours is the best one by far. Wish I found it earlier. Thank you so much mate!
Just a rough calculation:
Capacity: 768 Wh
Consumption: 824W
Test time: 43:53 ~ 44 min
Nominal time:
768 Wh / 824 W = 0,932 hod
(768Wh = 824W * 0,932 hod)
60 min * 0,932 = 55,92 min
So it should last 56 min, but it lasted only 44 min.
56 min ~ 100%
44 min ~ ??
44 / (56/100) = 78%
So the efficiency is close to 80% for 824W consumption - can be a lot different for small consumption like 10W USB charger.
Thanks!
Yeah, it's going to be less efficient the harder it has to run. Computer power supplies are another great example.
I was ready to pull the trigger on a Bluetti EB70S, then I saw this River 2 Pro, and I've now decided to buy this and the 160 watt panel.
Just as long as you don't use radio equipment with the inverter it is very dirty. I use my Bluetti for applications needing a quiet signal but have an Ecoflow for other things.
I’m 68 and NEED my C Pap .. literally to get a nights sleep , just bought it so haven’t needed to use it but sure hope it works! 😊
It has enough juice for about 13-14 hours with my CPAP, even with humidifier on high
cpap for grandpa lol I've been using one since i was 24 now 37.
This was an advertisement, not a review.
I use the EcoFlow River 2 Pro with one solar panel to run 3 fans (2 DC one AC) to keep my 8 chickens cool under a canopy in the summer.
I have my Starlink and security cameras plugged into mine with a 100 ah lifepo4 plugged into the solar port. Gives me more than a full day of power out network infrastructure. Yes it works as a UPS.
Very good review. I would use this for a variety of things. I own a couple of them. They are a great back up. For home laptops, tablets, phones and WiFi. 👍
We live in a 7 bedroom victorian style home, and I'm slowly having these power stations in each room to cut back on grid use.
Unless you have an additional power source like solar panels you will actually use more power from the grid due to loss of energy via heat

This is a great review thank you. For saving me money.
I have this myself, it’s amazing for the size 👊
Thanks for the demo and info, appreciate the detail and review. Have a great day
Very underrated channel thank u sir.
I’m using it too power the interior lights and power in my enclosed trailer
Great video, I need to look into it. Would be nice to power the coffee pot in the rv rather than having to start the generator
Using it for my RV, so I don't need to run the generator. ❤
Hi Russ I know vide is about old, however I was in Sams Club South Fl, This unit is $269. as of today, rememdered you did reviews, so I will be getting one, will use for charging drone natteries mostly or phone, keep up good reviews,
Coolest Product of 2021
That’s impressive! I built my own diy and spent just as much with fewer perks. Plus mine weighs 23lb and is much larger.
That is awesome, but most people don’t have the know how or take the time to do that.
My wife and I do Search and Rescue and are often in a place with no power to charge our gear. THat and camping with my cpap

"Had a power outage and it [EcoFlow River] powered our full size fridge for 10 hours."
I’m thinking a shock-corded tent pole that slides into a few Velcro loops to stiffen that top edge of those PV panels
I personally need it as an emergency power source when electricity is out at my house. I do need a power station that can atleast power 1 Electric Fan, 1 TV, Charge my phones, keep my laptop running, and keep my router's power on.
I invested in the Jackery system last year. I might grab this as a 2nd and use it in the field.
how long can this run a dometic before it needs to be charged on a 4 day camping trip (tent)
Thanks for the great review! I'm planning on buying this unit, there's a good discount right now at Costco! I'd like to mainly use it to keep my home internet working during power outage. Great video. I’m using it to power my astrophotography equipment and 12v fridge, really enjoying it so far. Hope the 220w solar panel goes on sale again looks good.
Hi Stephen Does the fridge run OK & for how long. Also I have a 200W Solar panel, did you try yours?
What wuold happen if I connect a rigid 550W solar panel? 49.7V Vocand / 14 Isc. It just take 220W of it will be fatal for Ecoflow River 2 Pro?
i just ordered my first one and it this one with the 160w solar panel
I just bought my first power station, River 2, the basic model. Hope it is a good buy also ? I use it in my boat together with my Lifepo4 bank, i plan to have it plugged inn the 12v input in the back, so i can kinda keep recharge it. im using the ecoflow river 2 pro as a UPS as well too, to power up my tower desktop computer incase theres any power outages!
does it work as a UPS, at loss of line voltage instantly switches ?
Very good video. Im looking for a power station solution to charge up 3 pair of M300 batteries, 4 pair of 210v2 batteries... Currently Im using a duel fuel generator for a power supply. Is there a ecoflow power station that can handle all of this drone equipment?
Can you leave this inside your car in a parking lot in the summer? Will the heat cause a fire or explode? Even with the device turned off?
Had a power outage and it powered our full size fridge for 10 hours.
I bought this unit and it just works. Only issue is it's not updating the firmware and my 100- watt solar panel isn't charging it.
I had to contact support because my unit also wouldn't update firmware. They did something and said to wait a couple of days. Then it worked.
Can the solar panels be permanently installed to roof of Sprinter cargo van?
Thanks for the info. I am looking for a power inverter for news gathering cars. I think this would be a better choice. We need to power a laptop and a few LED lights. We like that it can stay in the car and get charged while driving around. Plus when it came time to swap out cars with a new one we could do that our self's and not have to out source it. Working in the northeast we wonder how it would work in the cold. Might try and get one for testing.
Thanks
I like this company. They also have a complete lithium power system for VanLife living that is pretty impressive.
Yes it is!
Great video if you charge it on the mains power before going on a trip every time will that hurt the battery life
I gave you a thumbs up simply based on the time and effort spent on creating a professional appearing video. 👍
I really appreciate that!
AC & DC efficiency is about 85%. I’ve tested it and MANY other channels have accurately.
Thank you!
in my country only 3 hours electricity its 3 by 3 so that ecofolow is perfect for me.
Getting one refurbished so I can run my portable pellet grill at softball tournaments
While camping, how long will my CPAP machine last with this generator ?
Overnight for sure!
If your cpap supports it, look into a 12v dc to dc adapter to use with the PPS. You’ll easily get 2.5 times more capacity than using AC from your cpap.
I need it in my mc camper for my cpap when I'm camping
How long could you run a sump pump
Could this be used as an power conditioner?
I bought it. Happy with it, except for the fan noise. Too much for how I use the River 2 Pro. I saw a video of a guy that changed the fans, but I think that gives warranty issues. If you have a better idea to make the River 2 Pro more silent, please tell!
Here’s what’s you do - you get yourself a good set of noise-cancelling headphones and you watch 51 Drones TH-cam all day long! 😁
? It’s super quiet compared to most all power stations.
@@51Drones *burp* - oops, sorry
Can it power a tv
Can I have it on a solar panel and still use it?
I like that it gives the projected time out will last based on the load. Nice, Russ.
Just purchased, the AC output doesn’t show a reading when drawing a small amount (ie. less than 20 watts). Is that normal?
Russ, How well can those unites handle rain and snow? can they be left out in the elements?
I just unboxed mine. Safety instructions said don't let it get wet and if it does, don't ever use it again. That was my take anyway.
Our problem in Alberta Canada is lower dollar sky-high shipping and to make solar save money and pay for itself is to cut the grid a hundred twenty dollars per month
for me I would like to know how many different drone batteries it would charge up
dji mini 3 pro battery's
and mavic 3 battery's
thanks
Would make this complete by able to add expansion battery
Will lumber shop simple "J-Channel" used on drywall finished ends work to hold the Solar Panels straight for you?
Possibly!
Is it out yet? For months the PRO wasn't available correct?
Today!
I need something to power my CPAP and charge my cell phone but this may be overkill.
Will this unit power a electric skillet for pancakes and cooking ?
Absolutely
What about the eco flow river 2 max (newer one) will it also power a griddle?
why not the mini?
Please I would like to ask: I have a 300 watt 12.5 amp photovoltaic, if I connect it to the ecoflow river 2 pro will it give me 220 watts or will it cut it off completely? Thanks!
That’s a better question for EcoFlow. They monitor these comments, so hopefully they reply.
You should be able to charge 6 of the TB30 batteries with no trouble!
