    Explaining Ganondorf’s round ears with science: it’s a sex linked recessive trait that doesn’t have a chance to mutate because only one Gerudo male is born every 100 years 😅

      another weird detail i don't see mentioned often is how ganondorf's ears become more pointy in contact with the triforce, including to the point that in ocarina of time around his ears go from round to pointy after the 7 year time skip

      Also worth to mention:
      The Hylian Ears exist for the purpose that the Hylians can recieve messages from the Gods.
      Maybe Ganondorf somehow decided to not get these ears while still being an Fetus and Therefore he wouldnt recieve any divine messages.
      Maybe it is Because Ganondorf is not evil because he got jealous, he is evil Because he is born as someone evil, and Therefore he maybe refuses on Purpose to even listen to what the Gods want to say to him.

    A personal theory about the gorons: they reproduce by budding, just like some corals. That "Gorons grow out of rocks" thing was just those guys not wanting to explain Goron reproduction to Link, something like the tale of the stork for kids.

      @@sboinkthelegday3892 Not really sure what the message here was, but I'll address what I am able to.
      1. Most fashion was created by the wealthy and/or resource producers and then became a social norm through that culture. For example, in England, high heels and stockings were a male nobility thing until these goods were more widely distributed and women decided that they also wanted slim looking longer legs, then the men largely decided that it was more of a 'feminine' thing as it became a staple amongst women, who valued buying it over the men. (There's obviously more to it, but that's the truncated version.)
      2. Gender and sex have always had distinctions in culture, but these are defined differently in many cultures, hence why such a concept of 'masculine' and 'feminine' traits exists seperately from physically being male or female. 'Gender roles' as we commonly call them now sprung from this concept. Not sure what any of this has to do with American economics, and a video game lore comment section may not be the best place to debate the intricacies of economics, politics, or religion.
      3. In Japanese, there are clear male and female terms and even some honorifics, and gender is played with quite a bit in the culture, but I haven't seen anything in the games that suggests this type of wordplay happening in the games, though I haven't seen all of the games' Japanese text and haven't played the latest two games at all, so I may be wrong on that point somewhere. At the very least, it doesn't come up that often. Either way, the subject can get confusing indeed, but I don't think there's any taboo around it nowadays. Maybe a few generations ago, sure, but not so much now.
      4. I don't think Gorons can produce pollen as they are rock based, but a similar effect from a certain type of mineral could cause a change in them causing them to be able to reproduce. Who knows?
      Anyway, I hope this was entertaining and helpful. These subjects can be discussed lightly and in good humor and faith, but you often won't get that after typing words in full caps and using forceful linguistic techniques that comes across as yelling from the reader's perspective. That aside, your use of punctuation is solid and I appreciate that. You could probably write some papers or perhaps even books about the topics you're passionate about.

      I thought they did the old fashioned way. We see Rosso in ALBW who may be part Goron part Hylian. In Twilight Princess they may also drink milk which is something mammals do.

    • @casseroledragon3277
      @casseroledragon3277 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @jacksonvoet8312 That's not true. Corals, which can also reproduce by budding, do not have a stimuli that trigger them to reproduce asexually. It's simply part of their life-cycle that when they reach a certain size, they bud and reproduce.
      Maybe Big Goron was the Papa for a bunch of the smaller Gorons? 😂

    One thing to note about Gorons, I believe you can find at least one Goron in Gerudo Town during BOTW. Which, whether that means that Goron is female or not, it at the very least means that the Gerudo don’t recognize that Goron as a voe. Idk if this means that specific Goron is female, or if Gorons don’t have different sexes, or if the Gerudo simply don’t care about the gender of Gorons for one reason or another, but it’s another interesting tidbit to add to the idea that Gorons can be female

      I believe if you talk to that particular Goron he says something like, "Why did they let me in here?" This heavily implies that this particular Goron is a boy.
      I think one of the Gerudo guards, or maybe another character around Gerudo Town, says that because the Gerudo don't know how to classify Gorons they let all of them in by default.

      They're probably genderless are there are dialogues in Tears of the Kingdom which suggest Gorons are literally _"born from rocks"_ in Death Mountain. If i recall there's a quest where 2 old Gorons want to reach a cavern in Death Mountain where according to them "they were born long ago" suggesting that Gorons are in fact genderless rock people who happen to birthed by the mountain itself.

      @xinpingdonohoe3978 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@javiervasquez625 well, the "born from rocks" thing clearly isn't the whole story. Yunobo has ancestors. That requires something biological. The fact that his blood is the same as Daruk's, so he can use Daruk's Protection, means that he is definitely a real biological descendant thereof, meaning the ground thing is only part of it.

    • @javiervasquez625
      @javiervasquez625 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@xinpingdonohoe3978 True yet i always saw that as less of a genetic "bloodline" of gorons directly birthing children through generations and more so different "breeds" of Gorons who happen to be different to the others allowing them to consider past Gorons of their own breed as their "ancestors" (think of the Warrior Namekians from Dragon Ball who are considered a seperate breed to the peaceful Namekians without a genetic link aside from belonging to the same race).
      Since we never see such evidence for "Goron mating" to be possible the way Hylian-Gerudo mating is i feel the evidence is convincing to suggest Gorons are in fact a genderless byproduct of Death Mountain creating them as newborn babies ex nihilo.

    I don't think the Modern Gerudo have pointed ears due to Hylians, its more or less due to their increased connection to the gods, they clearly worship Hylia with a statue in the town. Also, ancient Hylians had even longer ears due to how close they were with the Zonai; literal decendants of the gods. Ganondorf didnt get the memo because he's an incarnation of evil, his ears are closed to the gods and thus rounded.

It's most likely that the reason why the Gerudo in the Era of the Wild have developed pointed ears is due to their own personal connection to the gods after abandoning their past evil ways following Ganondorf and becoming a nobler and pure hearted tribe seeking a peaceful relationship with the other tribes of Hyrule.

    One thing about the past Gerudo with round ears: in the Child timeline with Twlight Princess the people of Ordon and a few citizens like Aisha have round ears. Ordon looks to be a region of land that is separate from Hyrule by a large valley. It could be stated that Ordon was never a part of Hyrule's orginal territory but was made one through good relations between the people of another neighboring country. Aisha said she grew up in the mountains of Snowpeak which is on the complete upper edge of the kingdom. Her and her father could've been from another country as well but came to Hyrule to live for whatever purpose. As for the Gerudo, the desert doesn't have an actual end to it so they could have came from the far West past the Desert Colossus. According to the timeline they left Hyrule to lobe in the Desert of Dought. They're also one of the only races that can use elemetal sorcery(Kome and Kotake) and nobody says anything about Urbosa's thunder.

    Great video as always man! Just a couple of things I want to mention:
    2:33 - They only reason that branch exists that way is because they couldn´t find any other way to fit the older games in the timeline. Originally, it is highly likely that the intent was for the Adult Timeline to have lead to ALTTP (Despite the many, many contradictions OOT had to the lore of ALTTP, as OOT was made to be a re-telling of the Imprisoning War from ALTTP), since Ganon was sealed by the sages within the Dark World. But then, TWW was released, making it impossible for ALTTP to be in that branch (which was already iffy given the contradictions. OOT was more of a hard reboot of the series which took the best elements from the past games to make the game we know today) When comparing that is said in the book to both ALTTP and OOT, they purposefully omit key information and move events around to try to fit that narrative, which simply does not work and goes against the games themselves.
    3:50 - I have no idea why they made that change, since the oracle game's ending has Link sailing away from Hyrule to train on the same boat we later see him on in LA as he return from his training back to Hyrule. Encyclopedia (released a few years before LA Remake), also can´t seem to make up its mind on if its the same or a different hero (same with Zelda). That book is a nightmare for the lore of the series.
    5:44 - Gonna disagree here too. The whole idea that FSA's Ganondorf is a reincarnation was, again, only a book thing made up by the writters. The placement of FSA is proved wrong by the game itself, which placed it immediately after Four Swords, with no time jump whatsoever, as the people believed peace had returned to Hyrule following the re-sealing of Vaati, until Dark Clouds covered Hyrule (the start of FSA). It's the same Link and Zelda in both games. Aonuma also said upon the release of FSA that both games were thought to have been the "Earliest Tales" at the time, that is until the release of TMC and SS.
    AONUMA: "The GBA Four Swords Zelda is what we’re thinking as the oldest tale in the Zelda timeline. With this one on the GameCube [(FSA)] being a sequel to that, and taking place sometime after that."
    When it comes to Ganondorf or Ganon, he has died many times in the series, but the point of him is that he always returns, with a vengeance.
    MIYAMOTO: Even though Ganon is defeated time and time again, he is evil incarnate and will come back time and time again, with a vengeance. Each time, when the world is blanketed in evil, a young boy and girl will be born.
    When Ganon is killed, he does not reincarnate into another version of Ganondorf, but is instead revived, either by himself (his return in TWW was called a revival, as he was sent to "Beyond the Underworld" by the sages in OOT, also called a "Dark World" by Zelda), or through rituals such as in TAOL with his minions seeking to sprinkle Link's Blood (the blood of the one who killed him) on his ashes, or Twinrova seeking to light the three flames and sacrifice Zelda to revive him in the oracle games. Even in TP he died multiple times, and was always reborn/revived (when stabbed by the sages and revived by the Triforce, when sent to the Twilight Realm as he became a flaming spirit of Malice and then revived into the world of Light, killed by Link when he was transformed into Dark Beast Ganon as he became the flame spirit again and then was revived when he killed Midna, and finally killed by Link with the Master Sword, but he would innevitable return, as he promised to both Link and Zelda before his death. Even Hyrule Warriors which is set long in the future after Twilight Princess alludes to that Ganon being the same one from TP, even wearing an armor very similar to that from TP, with even longer hair as time had passed). The point being that, if he will just reincarnate into a completely separate Ganon, then there would be no need to revive him.
    Even for TOTK there is very strong evidence that suggests that it is still the same Ganondorf from OOT. both BOTW and CAC made it very clear that Calamity Ganon was Ganon from OOT, who became the calamity after many, many revivals. The history of these conflicts was recorded in the Forgotten Temple, a temple which existed since before the era of the Zonai, as they built a chamber into the pre-existing temple. And then we have Ganondorf's design, who is the only gerudo of his entire tribe who has the classic amber eyes and round ears of the era of Ocarina of Time, whereas all the other Gerudo have green eyes and pointy ears. That was a very clear distinction, which went though multiple itterations and design processes. As to why he doesn´t seem to care about seeking the Triforce... Bad writting I suppose, it just didn´t matter for this game, he probably forgot, who knows. Same thing happens with Vaati between TMC and FS, he seems like a completely different character altogether, but we know it is the same character.
    11:05 - The Goron quote is in the 64DREAM magazine from April 1999, Page 95. It also has very interesting details regarding the Gerudo always having pure Gerudo offspring regardless of the race of the father, and confirming the death of Ruto's mother.

      Love and agree with everything you wrote above except on the current Ganondorf from Tears of the Kingdom been the exact same one from past games given how weird and inconsistent it is for him to neither _remember_ any of the battles he's fought countless of times across several different timelines with different incarnations of Link and Zelda since Ocarina of Time while also showing no interest in obtaining the omnipotent Triforce when it's power is clearly above the nagatama inspired secret stones of the Zonai tribe. To me this seems like apparent evidence that Aonuma, Fujibayashi and possibly even Miyamoto himself have finally relented on the reincarnation subject and at last confirmed Ganondorf to also be a part of a _reincarnation cycle_ like the many other characters we've seen across the series ranging from Link to Zelda, Epona, Malon, Talon, Ingo, Gorman, Syrup the witch, the Happy Mask Salesman, Anju, Mamamu Yan, ??? (hand in the toilet), Mutoh, Mutoh's carpenter apprentices, Dampe the gravdigger, Guru-guru the organ grinder, Tingle, Sturgeon, Carlov and the 3 oracles among a few others.
      Since having a Ganondorf with absolutely no explanation for what can only be described as sudden chronic amnesia comes off as completley unbelievable on a narrative level i'm forced to embrace this matter as undeniable proof of Nintendo confirming Ganondorf's reincarnation as a natural phenomenon of the Zelda reincarnation cycle very much like every other character listed above.

    Regarding the Zora/Rito coexistence in BotW/TotK, with it being largely soft-agreed that the timelines were somehow converged by this point, I see two possible explanations:
    1) The worlds got fully blended together into a singular one and history was adapted to fit this "new" combined timeline. In this case, when the world got flooded for a few centuries and everyone went to live on the mountains/islands, the River and Sea Zora diverged even further than in the Oracle games. I believe the Sea Zora would have evolved to dwell deeper beneath the waves, whereas the River Zora became birbs-with their animosity towards Hylians being mirrored by Revali's standoffishness in BotW and AoC (even if the latter isn't considered canon, same as base HW, as far as I know). Then, when the sea somehow drained, the Sea Zora would have once more had to revert to their shallow-dwelling natures, and over time adapted to a freshwater environment to rebuild Zora's Domain. Meanwhile, the Rito... kept being birbs, but the avian traits became increasingly pronounced over time, with them becoming increasingly feathered across their entire bodies, likely to shield them from the cold.
    2) A parallel-yet-separate Hyrule (or a version far enough into the future that the previous timelines turn from history to myth) got all three timelines smooshed into it, with specific things popping out without fundamentally changing the world itself. Basically HW (despite it being non-canon). Zora and Rito both come through, establish populations, then adapt to their new homes over the course of a few centuries. Quick and easy, if a bit convenient.
    Personally, although the end result is the same, I prefer the former just because it seems like a more fun idea to play around with. Honestly, that explanation could easily be the case even within Wind Waker itself, with the Zora tribes diverging-some stayed in the shallows, before eventually going onto land and evolving into the Rito, while others retreated further into the depths and remained Zora. The sage we saw would have likely been one of the shallows-dwelling Zora, if Medley is to share a direct lineage with her as most have interpreted.

      that's exactly what the Canon says about them. Gorons are completely sexless, and any perceived gender identity as people know it is either assumed, or Gorons just happen to tend toward masculine gender expressions. It's why, despite being masculine presenting, Gorons are openly allowed into Gerudo town, because technically they are not male or men and therefore are not banned from entry.

    Technically, how the multiplayer functionality works in Tri Force Heroes seems to imply that there is a multiverse. It's hard to explain so simply put it the three Links that appear in that game are all real Links that come from different realities based on the players own universe or whatever that can join someone with a green Link's game to become red or blue Link, but can also become green Link's themselves (in one's own universe I think).

    • @javiervasquez625
      @javiervasquez625 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      The multiverse is somewhat proven with A Link between Worlds introducing Ravio, Hilda and Yuga as alternate versions of Link, Zelda and Ganondorf respectively so it's most likely the case that there are other such parallel dimensions where other such versions of Link and company exist.

    • @Mari_Izu
      @Mari_Izu ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Aside from how the multiplayer works, I think they just came from different lands and also had the "courageous ones" atributes: sideburns, ponty ears (Hytopia, like various lands outside Hyrule, has people with round ears) and hair side parted hair.
      It's a funny game, so the coincidence of having other two dudes looking similar is funnier than just being alternate realities.
      As all Toon Links look the same, that's probably why they choose this design instead of repeating ALBW's one, so it's easier to justify them using the same model with different colors.

    We have seen proof of foreign, OoT-style Zora before Tears of the Kingdom, in Oracle of Ages. That game is perhaps the only one to feature both Green and Blue Zora, explaining them as River and Ocean Zora respectively.
    In terms of breaking the Triforce into pieces, that is a concept as old as the series itself, with the original Famicom/NES game's backstory saying that Princess Zelda took the Triforce of Wisdom and broke it into pieces to hide them

    TotK also takes place roughly 5-6 years after BotW, and by the end we save Zelda who has been stuck as a dragon for tens of thousands of years, and according to Zelda it was as though she was asleep, so you could technically argue she was asleep during that time. There is no canonical support for Link and Zelda being siblings.
    The English translation of A Link to the Past took a lot of creative liberties. Translations during the early 90s were incredibly rough especially for more story driven games that were releasing at the time. Some translations even made up whole backstories for the accompanying manual. The whole "Zelda is your..." line that so many sibling theorists cling to was completely made up for the English release. The more accurate translation from the GBA remake omits it completely.
    For Ocarina of Time, there is absolutely nothing supporting that. That one was just made up by players that read way too much into nothing.

  • @casseroledragon3277

    I think the Rito and Zora both exist in BOTW/TOTK because of iterative Evolution.
    Iterative Evolution is a phenomenon where a species that has gone extinct can re-evolve from the species they originally evolved from, as long as that origin species is still alive. This happened with the Aldabra Rail Bird. It went extinct, and later reappeared because it had evolved from the White-Throated Rail, which was still an extant species.
    The Rito may have existed in Rauru's time, went extinct before OoT, and then the Zora who stayed in Hyrule re-evolved into the Rito Windwaker. Some of the Zora left Hyrule before Windwaker, and some of those evolved into Yona's Kingdom, while the rest returned to Hyrule as Sidon's Kingdom.

    • @javiervasquez625
      @javiervasquez625 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pretty sure "evolution" in the Zelda universe is inherently _theistic_ with the Golden Goddesses (specifically Farore) having a constant effect on the physical changes of many species which take part in the physical world in order to fulfill a preordained "cosmic plan" of how things are meant to be across the timeline. Taking into account the fact that the Zora from The Wind Waker would have been able to reach the flooded Hyrule kingdom had they remained water-able it makes sense that the Golden Goddesses would have turned them into bird people so that Ganondorf's Seal wouldn't be disrupted and so the people of the Great Sea would continue to thrive without the risk of exposing Ganondorf to the world.
      It's very much plausible than when the Zora and Rito races appeared together by the Era of the Wild it was by the hands of the goddesses who wished to see both evolutionary stages existing with one another side by side (think Australophitecus magically hanging out with Homo Sapiens after thousands of years or "reversed evolution" caused by God).

    another fun time loop in Zelda would be the goron pottery in Oracle of ages. you get a pot from a present-day goron and then return to the past to give it to his ancestor so that he can pass it down through his lineage. this means one of two things, that pots exists out of nowhere and it is stuck in an infinite time-loop at which point it will eventually degrade into nothing as it is handled and passed down from goron to goron to goron to link back to the initial goron for ever. I actually had my own theory about how the Rito and Zora can coexist. As revealed in Oracle of Ages, there are actually TWO types of Zora: Sea Zora, which are the friendly ones we see in the 3D games, and River Zora, which are the monsters we fight in most 2D games. We can see in both the Downfall and Child Timelines that both species can exist at the same time. So my theory is that the River Zora eventually evolved into the Rito, while the Sea Zora stayed as they were. The Rito in BotW and TotK are clearly different from the Rito in WW, such as being born with wings rather than having to earn them, and generally being more birdlike than humanoid. The reason the Rito in BotW and TotK are naturally good at archery could potentially be an evolution of how River Zora were really accurate with their energy ball spitting. Just a thought.

    about the oracle games: apparently they retconned that this link is the one from alttp and la? according to zelda wiki, the Japanese version of the encyclopedia from 2017 says that. the first edition of the localized version says that oracle link is the same as alttp and la, but it was later updated to reflect the japanese. but i don't have the books myself lol but i generally find zelda wiki pretty reliable

    New random thought: TOTK - Sacred stones are a shattered Triforce of Power.
    Ganondorf in OoT and TP can transform into Ganon. Zelda and Ganondorf eat the stone and transform into dragons.

    ALTTP Link and Zelda were never implied to be siblings. Not only has this been debunked, but the rumor guy in albw talks about a painting of a previous hero and princess embracing, that albw Zelda has been caught looking fondly at. The manga of alttp also depicts them in a romantic light. Implying they got married by the final words. Never have they ever been siblings. Only friends and or romantic.

    knew each one hehe
    also, i like to consider gorons a little bit like dwarves in fantasy fiction - both sexes look similar and most women have beards as well. though personally i think it goes deeper than that - if there are any sex differences between gorons, there's no outward indication of it. since gorons can have biological kids and siblings, there's clearly some sort of dna passage/fertilization. because they're born from caves/rock/earth itself (which has always been a personal headcanon of mine so i love how totk validated it), i imagine they only really need one dna-donor. so it's possible all gorons have the same biology/sex, and no concept of gender because of it.

    A few things:
    I always assumed that gorons reproduce asexually. With that, the idea of romance is completely lost on them.
    My theory for why zora and rito can exist at the same time is because current rito are the evolution of the Loftwing. This would explain their general willingness to help hylians
    Rito in wind waker are also less "evolved from" zora, and more "mutated from" zora due to exposure to Valoo's scales.
    Yiga are part of the Shiekah race, exiled from the Shiekah tribe.

    When it comes to people reincarnating outside the big 3 in Link, Zelda and Ganondorf, I've always liked to believe that in Impa's case it's not that she is always coming back as well but that the Sheikah, who are sworn to keep the royal bloodline safe, train and raise one of their own to be that "Impa". Making the name closer to a role or title given to the strongest Sheikah at the time.

    I always thought it was more of a spiritual evolution of the wind spirit from zora to rito. Is this fully supported in Wind Waker, not really. Does it make a lot more sense than fish evolving into birds to escape a flood? Yes, yes it does. I always thought if anything it was a small pocket if zora that stayed back and turned to birds, and the bulk of them just swam to somewhere else.

    • @Mari_Izu
      @Mari_Izu ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a magic water that's hard to swim and regular fish don't live, so Zora lost their main food source, meaning they probably had to start hunting birds, they also escaped to where Valoo's live, and he was the one who provided their wings, so they slowly became bird-like.

    I think the best way I've seen the Downfall Timeline explained during the events of OoT is that child Link drew the master sword and immediately went to fight Ganondorf. Obviously a kid wasn't ready, so he died and the Goddesses intervened with the redo button, this time sealing him away when he draws the sword for seven years. But his death still happened, so the Goddesses salvaged 1 out of 3 timelines from this whole mess.

    10:06 to clarify that, no one actually broke the triforce. it was more of a test from the power itself to determine who would be worthy, each triforce has it's own way of determining who's worthy but sometimes they will do a trial like this. and skyward sword is technically the first event and the curse cast by the final boss (forgot their name) is what keeps link, zelda, and ganon coming back. until the time in which ganon defeats them both and satisfies the conditions of the curse that was cast. unfortunate that the land of hyrule keeps suffering because someone was a sore loser.
