Psst Gaijin, just wanted to say that I been using your videos to help me out since MH4U, and recently went back to play it because every Rise update I knock out in like one or two days with my friends. So we all went back to 4U, and they didn’t know/remembered how to build..I sort of didn’t remember either so I looked up your old videos to help us out all these years later. They are much appreciated! Stay good man.
There's a mechanic when you are using cannons. You can charge your thunderbombs and piercing shot while guarding, just start charging the ammo and you can guard during the charge(note you can't start a charge while guarding). Since cannon's HP are really low(like 50 give or take) this could prove useful since thunderbombs really take a long time to charge up and you will get hit by almost anything during the charge
@@Shadownin91 Yes, holding down the button will increase the charge of the ammo, ofc the higher the charge, the more potent the damage will be, piercing will hit more times, fully charged thundershot deals the same amount of damage as bamboo bomb. And speaking of bamboo bomb, repel with bamboo bomb is the worst
I hope more people learn to use Master Utsushi. Use him when there is a lot of monster people, he make them rideable. Stop using them when there is only Apex there.
Yeah. But also I will see people ignore using him at all if he is still left and only the apex remains. He can be used to get a nice 3 second pause, and in cases like Rathalos it'll often drop him from the air which is nice.
@@AntonioCunningham Even if you don't like Wyvern riding, if you're in a multplayer hunt, it's still beneficial to use him to allow other party members mount while you wail on the apex or ibushi.
Also note that there are no sub-objectives tied to wyvern riding, so unless you have all objectives complete you're likely wasting monster kills on it. It bugs me so much when people use wyvern riding at the beginning phase of rampages.
@@gaijinhunter I only fairly recently started realising how overly and unnecessarily conservative I was about using the Kamura defenders like Iori, Fugen and Utsushi. And having done a good amount of rampages with others, I think a lot of people have yet to realise as well. What didn't occur to me, for instance, is that Iori is exclusive to the first horde. Hinoa and Minoto are exclusive to the second horde. No reason not not use them at some point. Fugen also can be used twice, from what I can tell, as he gets an upgraded version along the way. And the Dragonbait, I think you can straight up deploy it every horde once unlocked? So yeah. Good stuff to be aware of. This sort of awareness is going to pay off significantly the moment Capcom starts dropping actually challenging Rampages, which I believe they inevitably will, sooner or later.

Man in french, repel using the wyvernshot or dragonator is only translated as "USE the dragonator / wyvernshot", I had a feeling it was actually repelling with it.
I found out just from witnessing the objective clearing when I happened to use the splitting wyvernshot on a few monsters instead of the apex recently. It said I did it lol, I was like 🤔 why did it just say to use it? I was normally saving them for the apex but now I'll use them for monsters
Just another note not sure if anyone point it out yet, by completing the Red 7 star rampage quest get you around 3100 HR point, you can get a bonus 500 HR points for S rank and 800 for S+
Thank you for making this video and also, dropping by my stream a few days ago explaining to me the two Fugens usable in a rampage quest. I had no idea you can use him twice in a hunt. It really helps.
i was listening to this while doing a valstrax hunt and i got 3 of their gems from this one quest 😭 i need to watch your videos whenever i play, you’re good luck
Trying to get elemental blights or dropped materials in single player is such a dice roll. I hate the dragonator one too. It so often doesn't repel, and then a buddy or villager repels the monster.
For elemental blights, i do suggest you use iori right away to get 3 for free (his dog does this), then just try to start out each wave with a thunder shot fully charged from a cannon, that will do another 3 each time, so 15 or so. The elemental bombs or just wyvernsnipe thing (use the beam option) will take care of the rest.
My tip for the Dragonator one is to either Dragonbait lure in front or try to stun them in front for a bit so you can just wail on them. I actually try to wait for the Blue Skull (signifying very weak) until I throw the Dragonator so I can guarantee the kill from it.
It may help to remember that you can throw elemental bombs down from the air onto monsters. Lets you easily and reliably apply a Blight at will, if you've been getting bombs to drop. If you're behind on Blights, try throwing some bombs around.
@@gaijinhunter I was told that the fireballs were better at applying fireblight, whereas the beams apply better DPS. I can't remember a single instance of the beams applying a blight. Can you clarify?
@@ivaldi13 I use the beam 90% of the time. It can fireblight but sometimes takes 2 or 3 beams. The Apex seems to have a higher threshold for being ele blighted
Some tips I'd like to share since I enjoy Rampage quests a lot. One, is to have defender installations at the enemy entrance portion early on and hunters should just go the ground, especially during the first wave. The more monsters killed during the first wave, the faster you'll unlock the cannon and machine guns. Also, dont just place manual installations when you're gonna leave them anyway. When you unlock the Wyvern Artillery, don't just leave them facing the gates. Always reorient them where the monsters are. Place only one type of elemental bomb near a bamboo bomb, triggering multiple of them with just one monster is a waste for elemental blights. During breaks in-between waves, add coal the power kiln. I wish Capcom adds translated shoutouts for Rampage purposes.
That explains quite a bit actually. Especially the dragonator and wyvern shot. Was wondering why I would see it at zero even though I used it a few times.
@@AntonioCunningham The type of defender tickets that drop are tied the rampage * rank. Go to Minoto and check her rampages page. Near bottom right of this screen you will see "Main Rewards". Notice the type of defender tickets that are listed. You get bonus tickets depending on your end score and the tickets listed as "main rewards" are the tickets you get that bonus for. If the ticket type you want isn't listed your chance of getting it may be little (Def5 from red 7* is possible but rare) to none (Def5 from 3* is impossible). I think, but haven't confirmed, that the bonus for tickets is tied to both end score and the order tickets are listed under "main rewards". IE: If the main rewards are Def 9, 8 , 7, you get the bonus for the first ticket if you get S+, you get the bonus for the second ticket if you S or higher, you get the bonus for the third ticket if you A or higher. I haven't confirmed this is how it works, but I suspect it is based on how many of each ticket I've been getting. You may want to S+ 5* rampages or S 6* rampages for those Def 5 tickets. Def 2 would be 2* and 3* rampages.
This video has done a really REALLY good job at demystifying many tiny facets of the rampage that were not clearing in my head. Looking forward to the rest of the series :D
Yayyyy, thank you SOOOO much. It helps a ton to know that the sub objectives are arranged by point value. I was always confused on how many points each assignment gave you. I eventually gave up trying to do the objectives because I'd end up wasting half of the rampages trying to get the objective just to end with an S rank at the end. Can't wait for the next one! :3
I am SO glad you're covering rampages with a series! I was really lukewarm on these missions when going through the story because they simultaneously felt too hectic but also that my actions didn't matter much. Now that I'm past the final boss and doing casual quests with random people, I realized rampages are a great way to raise my HR, get a ton of materials, get those rampage and apex materials, and switch up the monster hunter formula. Super excited to see you break down these mechanics a bit more since I plan to do a bunch more of these missions. One thing that would be great to see you cover as maybe a video in this series, is how to tackle rampages solo. For now I'm perfectly happy using join requests and playing rampage hunts with strangers, but that's also because doing the quest solo just feels totally overwhelming and like I'm constantly doing something wrong. So if you have guidance on how to do rampage quests solo and not feel like you're getting trampled, that would be lovely. Thanks as always GH!
You can use blast status application (e.g. Teostra gun shrapnel spam, the only half-legit use for shrapnel shots) to rack up stronghold points quickly, like right after you shoot your first two crag shots, allowing you to make faster progress in your stronghold's power. With OP installations and more installations, every wave becomes manageable until the apex, at which point you mostly have to just git gud, like the rest of the game.
@@NetMaple Shit, you're right. I was posting half-asleep; sorry. Teo gun is used for rapid fire shrapnel in rampages, but that's because it's the only opportunity to use ammo with the sole upside of being able to hit many targets at once. You don't get blast. Use toaster bow or marshmallow bow.
If people take one thing away from this vid I hope it’s the bit about counter gong. When the gong sounds it’s time to fight with your weapons. I gave up rampaging in random rooms because of this.
It frustrate me sometimes in Rampage coop, people don't do quest. Example, repel using bamboo or let villager repel, people just went ham when a monster is rideable.
Didn’t know so much went into this, or that not all missions were created equally. Thanks! I also find rampage tickets the easiest fuel to farm for the melding pot. One more good reason to do them.
Oh my god this explains so much. I was so frustrated when I liberally used dragonators only to not clear the objective. And the Blast Bow is so good in rampage.
thanks for the video, hopefully some players understand the mechanics a bit more, cuz sometimes it's so frustrating when they don't have any clue what they're doing ^^'
This was a really informative breakdown! I didn't know about the points assigned per "slot" they were in for the secondary objectives, but it makes sense. I knew there were differing amounts of stronghold points at least depending on the length of the objective (easy to see at the start with Hunting Installations, as the 10 doesn't get you enough for cannons). I always just aimed for doing as many sides as possible, and figured we could miss probably 2 and still get S+. Good to know this is still mostly true so long as we don't miss the longer objectives. It was also nice to learn the temporary objective is pure bonus points. I always like saving a counter gong for if Maggy shows up, since it makes him easy to take out.
Did a rampage this evening after watching this video, and wow was there an improvement overall in the pub experience! I don't know if everyone watched the video or not, but we had all the objectives cleared by the final wave, and I could tell we all worked together to get those last few (like repel with a machine cannon). Thanks for the guide!
Thank you so much for explaining this, was always confused why the rating seemed to vary so much when I felt like I was doing about as well with one rampage as any other
So basically rampages are real fun mechanically but the scoring system is full of monhun flavor jank and some of the objectives really just aren’t thought out well. Oh monhun, never change.
Rampages also gives a lot of layered armor tickets which is really nice. I always do rampages when im feeling a little burnt out by regular hunts. Thanks for the clear explanation man.
LBGs like Chameleos are super good for inflicting status. You can get all 10 status in about 30 seconds by Sleeping, Paralyzing and Poisoning the first group of monsters. It is also very easy to make a set with Sleep, Para & Poison Attacks Up - then I would recommend you get Spare Shot 3 for ammo economy. Reload/Recoil down as you need it and Steadiness if you are not used to your bullets curving. With this setup level 2 shots will inflict status in two shots, you don't even need to combine to get all 10 status procs.
This is a fantastic video! Personally I love rampages and their my favorite new addition to this game, so it's great to finally get videos explaining the mechanics of the rampage. Looking forward to the rest of the series!
I like how rampages are still pretty fun even just with basic info to go off of, at least with randoms. Solo I can see getting stressful, and I've purposefully not played them without asking for backup. Even when not needing them as weapon making materials, the tickets are fantastic for talismans. This is really nice to know, and I look forward to the upcoming parts. My understanding gets quite limited when it comes to the NPCs and the Wyvernfire Arty's secondary ammo and range (I don't use it much). I've been thinking of making a poison-focused Hammer build and Rampage sounds like a great place to bring it. Stuns, plus status. I also just straight up like poison in this game for some reason. I'm a Great Sword main that went with Sieglinde initially, but Hammer feels good from the limited amount I've played it. Pukei-Pukei hammer with some Chameleos armor I think is a good start.
Thing I love about rampages are that you can turn in those lvl9 and 8 tickets for melding and the nice chunk of change from selling monster parts. Since I don't use bow or LBG this seems like an easier route to me. I've never made decent part time to kill Narwa solo.
Thank you very much!!! You've granted my request for covering the rampage section. Love and appreciate it so much.. gonna learn a lot from your contents :) best of luck..
My tip is to always look at the subobjectives and always choose a red 7star rampage that has "set up hunter instalations." I always get an S+ rank because it gives you the option to proc blights early on with the cannon and just makes hunts easier early on.
Not what I expected when you first mentioned you are going to make a video about rampage. But you cover so many stuff the game does not tell you explicitly, that this video becomes an instant gem for all Monster Hunter Rise players.
This is great to know! Also the explanation of the Counter Signal, which tbh I didn’t know about (I knew it buffed damage, but thought that might’ve applied to the installations too)
Very excited for the upcoming videos. Rampage is one of my favorite things in Rise. I would suggest making a video focusing on soloing the Rampage. In my experience, Gather Dropped Items is sometimes impossible in solo, while Villager Repel is a freebie.
A video explaining how special hunting installations work would be very informative! Thank you as always for the very precise information, there is few of this information available elsewhere. Keep up the videos, but most importantly happy hunting!
Great video thank you. I think that 3/5 monster machine gun are easy enough, especially if you have a setup instalations, which allow you to level up your stronghold early in the rampage.
This is incredibly helpful and good to know! Sadly, this won't change my view of Rampage Mode. It just doesn't feel good at all. All you do is run around and pew pew until you're allowed to slap monsters yourself and even then they don't really fight back much anyways. And no, I do not use meta skills, no Crit Boost, no WEX.
Thing is, all of this is pretty easily understood if you just take the time to read what's on your screen and pay attention to what's happening during the rampage. But most people can't even manage that. The one single time I've ever had a not miserable experience in rampage was when I was randomly teamed up with 3 extremely tryhard powergamer japanese folks who fucking demolished the event. They were all perfectly synchronized in every action, from cannon barrages and stuns, to fueling the kilns, hitting the gongs, using all the emplacement special abilities and turret utilities, and just working together amazingly well. Wish I could be grouped with them again. but, alas, it is not to be. The sweetness of that one group will forever sour every rampage afterwards, with the brainless randos who ignore everything that's on the screen in front of them..
Just a heads up, Sub-Assignments can repeat in the same list, ie, you can get "Set up a Hunting Instillation" for both Top and Middle. It's happened to me a few times, once with the Installations. Not sure if you could get the same Sub-Assignment in Top, Mid, AND Bottom, though.
Instead of rampage weapons, I would have loved rampage charms where we can customize the skills and slots. Farming to complete a build is the worst whether it be charms or decos
I cannot wait for the second. I feel that overconfident and overly eager players should really sit and pay attention to that one. Everything shouldn't be a mad rush!
People need to learn about UTSUSHI !!! Using him on the 2nd monster rush on boss battle when the long free counter signal is on is better than using him on the 1st monster rush on boss battle, since the 1st monster rush counter signal is usually only like 20 - 30 sec left.
This was insanely helpful, thanks I'd really like to see your favourite weapons to bring to a rampage, I saw Narga LBG and Magna DB I'm using either the Basarios LBG for Status, Stickies and Shrapnel or the Two LBG for Shrapnel Zombie Slasher Mode. I considered Chameleos LBG, because it can fire all ammo types, but didn't came up with a coll build yet
the only one i don’t like is the objective related to picking up shiny drops, as some of the time, there won’t actually be enough drops to complete the objective. other than that, it’s a pretty fair system and the more i solo rampage, the more enjoyable they are.
I usually use Master Utsushi on Wave 3, Horde 3, when 3 monsters arrive while the apex is out, and the gong activates for 400+ seconds. That's when 3 friends can get on the monster, and go crazy on the apex because of the gong multiplier. Of course, each friend would have to take turns on the apex; otherwise, yall will end up hitting each other. 😂
Great video! I’m still new to MH, are there any cookie cutter Blast bow builds for rampages (status, not necessarily damage) in 3.0? Not sure between Teostra, Magnamalo, or maybe Rampage with blast? 🤷♂️ Can’t wait for the next part!
One question my friends and I have had about these rampages is if it’s worth eating for weakener (we’ve also heard that it only applies to the one who posts the quest)
Actually, repelling with a splitting wyvernshot does count on an apex monster, I was off by one repel with it and I managed to kill the apex with one, it will count as I was given an S+ and the subquest completed in the results screen, but this was also in 2.0, but I highly doubt it changed since 3.0, but this is also extremely unreliable to do, I just got lucky.
Heya gaijinhunter, i am really grateful for this video! I just wanted to ask if you ever plan on making a tutorial on the chat and sticker system? Some of the texts are translated and some are auto-displayed and i heard you can even use stickers with custom text but there is no ingame manual for that which i found sad
@@laserworm7886 yeah, BUT I wanna see if he found any way to intigrate the stormsoul ability in any of his sets. I had some difficulties working a build around it, and only managed to make a half ass charge blade build, so I'd love to see if he uses any of it for his builds. :)
dunno if anyone cares about outfit vouchers, but from my own experience, doing apex rampages guarantee a range of about 5-7 outfit vouchers much better compared to normal hunts and normal rampages that only grant about 1-2 outfit vouchers among completion. especially if you're just casually farming for outfit vouchers, doing normal hunts aren't very efficient as of what i've done so far... and some hunts don't even GIVE you outfit vouchers which really sucks
I'll just settle for randoms who know that Counter Signal means get your ass down here and fight instead of pew pew on the Ballistas. Even my Custom Shoutout doesn't do the trick for some people
problem with rampage is that its too easy, the monsters are rekt by the siege stuff! they need to add a raid boss to this area like lao shan lung shen gaoren or kulve taroth (these monster types have been absent too long)
FYI: There is a difference in localizations so some languages like Japanese use SS as the wording while English uses S+. They are the same thing.

Thank you so much for explaining this, was always confused why the rating seemed to vary so much when I felt like I was doing about as well with one rampage as any other
i love that you're using the pokke village theme in your videos, MHFU is where it startet for me
So basically rampages are real fun mechanically but the scoring system is full of monhun flavor jank and some of the objectives really just aren’t thought out well.
Gaijin’s teacher aura really comes out in that vid lmao, excellent video, I love learning more about the game mechanics
Adding to the algorithm. Love these videos gaijin. Thanks for keeping us appraised.
Best mhr videos from Gajin! GOAT thank you so much!
This is a fantastic video! Personally I love rampages and their my favorite new addition to this game, so it's great to finally get videos explaining the mechanics of the rampage. Looking forward to the rest of the series!
and now I understand! Also that little scream at 0:32 had me giggling
Tip: Use the machine cannons' silkbind shot to pull gate breakers away from the gate
I'm half tempted to respond "No shit", but sadly, I'd agree people NEED to be told this.
Wow you uploaded this on the day I decided to grind out rampages to get to hr100
My tip is to always look at the subobjectives and always choose a red 7star rampage that has "set up hunter instalations." I always get an S+ rank because it gives you the option to proc blights early on with the cannon and just makes hunts easier early on.
ohhh my god i was SO confused about the "use splitting wyvernshot/dragonator" thing i thought it was glitched. jesus christ. thanks for this!
rampage is now my go to for trinket mats.
Going into this video I sure didn't expect there'd be this much math and statistics xD Super great guide though, really enlightening!
I am realizing how little I actually understand about rampages. Looking forward to the next videos!
"Repel with Bamboo Bomb" is the worst assignment, change my mind
Wow, really broke it down further then needed thank you for the indepth guide. All this just to say, complete all the sub missions.
Very interesting! I never really understood this mechanic, but still enjoyed Rampage quests. Thanks a lot for explaining it!
A video explaining how special hunting installations work would be very informative!
Thank you as always for the very precise information, there is few of this information available elsewhere. Keep up the videos, but most importantly happy hunting!
Wow, this is very informative, now I finally know how to get a S+. Even after 225 hours I still didn't know this lol. Thanks Gaijin, you're thr best.
Can't wait for the other rampage videos! I've been wanting to learn more about them
Great video thank you.
Great guide Gaijin. Looking forward to the next parts
This guide is S+ tier. Thank you!
Awesome video as always. Such useful information that you nowhere else online. Thumbs up!
wow, that rajang's really screaming 😂
You are a saint to the MH community. S+
3:12 But I like doing rampages, even against normal monsters ):
they're fun, but I prefer apex's because they are scarier and give better rewards. except arzuros. he can bugger off.
That blast tip is so obvious I feel kinda dumb for never thinking about that
And that’s why we always check who has the easiest set of objectives out of everyone in our group.
Luv your videos man, hugs from Mexico 🇲🇽 👉👉
Just a heads up, Sub-Assignments can repeat in the same list, ie, you can get "Set up a Hunting Instillation" for both Top and Middle. It's happened to me a few times, once with the Installations. Not sure if you could get the same Sub-Assignment in Top, Mid, AND Bottom, though.
Instead of rampage weapons, I would have loved rampage charms where we can customize the skills and slots. Farming to complete a build is the worst whether it be charms or decos
That moment when u see set up hunting installations
I solo these apexes for the experience but if I ever wanted to try running those apex weapons I’ll take all the advice, they look so versatile.
I cannot wait for the second. I feel that overconfident and overly eager players should really sit and pay attention to that one. Everything shouldn't be a mad rush!
Thanks Gaijin! I’ve had a lot of S+ but never understood how I got it.
People need to learn about UTSUSHI !!! Using him on the 2nd monster rush on boss battle when the long free counter signal is on is better than using him on the 1st monster rush on boss battle, since the 1st monster rush counter signal is usually only like 20 - 30 sec left.
I'm almost always getting S+ with all points completed, if i get a good team.
@VorNach NameName it's easier solo because you don't have randoms ruining things. unless I'm playing with a friend, I play exclusively solo.
The info about getting credit for the dragonators is HUGE for me. I kept thinking it was bugged when I used it an didnt get credit
This was insanely helpful, thanks
I'd really like to see your favourite weapons to bring to a rampage, I saw Narga LBG and Magna DB
I'm using either the Basarios LBG for Status, Stickies and Shrapnel or the Two LBG for Shrapnel Zombie Slasher Mode. I considered Chameleos LBG, because it can fire all ammo types, but didn't came up with a coll build yet
I can recommend using Chameleos DB's or Bow for status effect subquests.
Gets the job done insanely fast.
the only one i don’t like is the objective related to picking up shiny drops, as some of the time, there won’t actually be enough drops to complete the objective. other than that, it’s a pretty fair system and the more i solo rampage, the more enjoyable they are.
Big Brother Gajin coming through yet again!
1:07 or you're me the first time I did the new 3.0 rampage, when I literally didn't get a single defender 9 ticket despite S ranking it
Good to see that you didn't get the Elemental Blight one done either. F that objective. 😂
Im a simple man. I see gaijin hunter video. I watch. No matter what it is about
5:10 it's the new Rathian variant
Great video! I’m still new to MH, are there any cookie cutter Blast bow builds for rampages (status, not necessarily damage) in 3.0? Not sure between Teostra, Magnamalo, or maybe Rampage with blast? 🤷♂️ Can’t wait for the next part!
One question my friends and I have had about these rampages is if it’s worth eating for weakener (we’ve also heard that it only applies to the one who posts the quest)
Love your videos man
Actually, repelling with a splitting wyvernshot does count on an apex monster, I was off by one repel with it and I managed to kill the apex with one, it will count as I was given an S+ and the subquest completed in the results screen, but this was also in 2.0, but I highly doubt it changed since 3.0, but this is also extremely unreliable to do, I just got lucky.
Are you planning on doing a 3.0 update on your hunting horn and dual blades build?
^ plz. :'(
@@laserworm7886 yeah, BUT I wanna see if he found any way to intigrate the stormsoul ability in any of his sets. I had some difficulties working a build around it, and only managed to make a half ass charge blade build, so I'd love to see if he uses any of it for his builds. :)
If I wanna ramp up my fave weapons, Im gonna have to remember this. Lol
dunno if anyone cares about outfit vouchers, but from my own experience, doing apex rampages guarantee a range of about 5-7 outfit vouchers
much better compared to normal hunts and normal rampages that only grant about 1-2 outfit vouchers among completion. especially if you're just casually farming for outfit vouchers, doing normal hunts aren't very efficient as of what i've done so far... and some hunts don't even GIVE you outfit vouchers which really sucks
I'm so glad I am at the point where I have no reason to do any rampages anymore, I don't enjoy them.
I'll just settle for randoms who know that Counter Signal means get your ass down here and fight instead of pew pew on the Ballistas. Even my Custom Shoutout doesn't do the trick for some people
I've got more problem with Defender Ticket 5. That thing is also needed on almost every Ramp-up skill. 😂
Huh, I've been calling the Lv 9 Fugen as "Apex Fugen" , given the description and the shear amount of damage he throws out.
the screaming goat is back!
problem with rampage is that its too easy, the monsters are rekt by the siege stuff! they need to add a raid boss to this area like lao shan lung shen gaoren or kulve taroth (these monster types have been absent too long)
god i love pokke theme thanks gaijin
