Irene's spoken part may be my favorite part of this performance. She is so charismatic, I love her!
But why is her accent so different from Floor's? Different English teacher?
@@Sarcasticron Probably another teacher or another school. Floor is 43 and Irene is 40. Another cause can be that Floor is speaking multiple languages (don't know about Irene) so by speaking multiple languases it's probably harder to focus on one language. Also two (or more) siblings have their own "idea" of pronouncing the same language (English or other). Probably their Dutch (native) language doesn't sound exacly the same.
But ...... what do I know ..... I'm just a simple Dutchman, also trying to speak English, German and a little bit French. 😄. My name is also Jansen, 25 years older than Floor (not related (I think, you'll never know) but we certainly didn't have the same teacher!
Good choice. That was the first time I saw Ayreon and Floor live on that tour. Hooked ever since. And I had the chance to meet Irene 2 weekss ago. Such a nice and lovely person.

I love this early Star One concert. Damian Wilson opening. Only female singers are Floor and Irene Jansen. Joost van den Broek on keyboards and unusually Arjen Anthony Lucassen playing guitar and singing. Also like the Jansens' early version of Valley of the Queens at this concert. Later performed by Floor, Anneke van Giersbergen and Marcela Bovio.

What could beat the very best Female singer in the entire world? .... answer: two of them. And yes, they are not human. These sirens came from the Andromeda Galaxy to bring beauty and happiness to those wicked earthlings.
Fun fact! This is actually an Ayreon song during a Star One concert. The male singer, Damian Wilson does a lot with Arjen and one of my favorites is Intergalactic Space Crusaders from the Universe live show which is a Star One song during an Ayreon concert.
This video is from around 2003 and yes Irene is an amazing singer. She probably would be almost as big as Floor but chose academia (she has advanced degrees in English I believe and is a senior executive with a Dutch language learning company) and family when she was younger. Irene has been involved in lot's of Ayreon and Star one albums and live shows. See Star one's Revel in Time and the Universe live and 01011001 - Live Beneath The Waves for some of her recent work. Arjen Lucassen has said she is an extremely powerful singer and was blown away by her belted high G on The Human Equation. Arjen recommended her to Gary Hughes for his rock Opera Once and Future King when he mentioned he was looking for a female power singer. In addition to her singing led on two tracks for that project she was lead singer for Karma, and was a guest lead singer on Alarion's Wave of Destruction album, and she sang lead on the song Hand on the Clock, Alternate version on the 2023 Star One Album, Revel in Time

Thanks for this reaction. If you liked Damian Wilson, the vocalist in the first part of the song, I'd suggest you to check out some stuff of Threshold, where he was lead vocalist for some of their albums...

These are audio tracks only, there are simply no good live recordings available on YT. But checking out Threshold is definitely worth it, they are imho Britain's best progressive metal band, especially with Damian on lead vocals...

Told ya, Arjen's music is a very deep rabbit hole. You can spend months exploring it all.
You need to check out the off. lyric vid with Bruce Dickinson singing, also because this was just a short part of the whole song.
Damian Wilson is a staple at Ayreon live shows, as well as Irene as part of the Ayreon Angels.
If you want to hear some more of her, why not try Lucassen's & Soeterboek's Plan Nine (yes, another side project) and their song Before the Morning Comes?

A good example of how similar they are is to look at their performance at Floor's concert in Amsterdam last December. They sang "Dangerous Game" together (th-cam.com/video/wXtYiJoM1R4/w-d-xo.html), and if I'm totally honest, I didn't enjoy it anywhere near as much as when Floor sang it with Henk Poort, for the simple reason that Irene sounds so much like her sister so we didn't get the contrast. Irene has been working with Arjen Lucassen for probably a couple of decades, but she didn't go for a full time musical career, despite her obvious talent.
Irene chose a diffferent track than Floor. She went to the UK and got her Masters in English,, got a good job, got married, and I think had kids. Singing is a side line for her.

Sorry for crashing the party and beeing a "little bit" impolite, but I'm pretty angry (not about the reactor but the creator of the video he reacted to).
Some mentally impared Floor Jansen- and Nightwish-fanboy castrated the original Video and deletetd the first 8 minutes and nobody complains about it? And as peak of impudence he named the video "Floor & Irene Jansen - Into the black hole". This is an Insult for Arjen Lucassen and especially for Damian Wilson, who is the singer of the song. To avoid misunderstandings: the Jansens are great singers and I was a big fan of the early After Forever albums. But just for your Information: this Video is from 2003, the Jansens were the BACKGROUND-singers in this show and came to the frontside of the stage only for the final of the song. Well, it seems that this is apparently reason enough to remove three quarters of the song including the complete performance of Damian and the instrumental part. That's so annoying...
So please do yourself (and all others) a favour and react to the complete vid.

No shitstorm from me, I totally agree. Wasn't aware that they cut the song, just figured they did a little part of it in the live show. To hear that whoever made this video just cut most of it is outrageous. Excuse me, I am off to go watch the whole thing now :)
No, Floor is much stronger, with much more work & training. Irene can belt, they were used as backup here, actually that is what Irene does is sing with choirs, for Ayreon in back up in his musicals. I really don’t enjoy these Ayreon musicals because the lighting is way too much, & the sound overpowers the singers, as it did here. I loved his in studio one you just did, because you could see & hear it. Irene was next to Ayreon here. She has strong voice, but she is no Floor. I haven’t seen them do much together, when they have, Irene is Floor’s guest, & she kind of defers time to her, & they aren’t good video sound quality, just something someone filmed from a phone they look like. Too much good Nightwish, & Floor to worry about this. Do some Floor After Forever, it’s a rest band too.
