Fabio is an amazing vocalist and has A LOT of tricks under his belt. Such a nice guy! Looking forward to seeing more of his performances on the channel. 🧙♂
I’m so glad you did this. I have loved Rhapsody for years and they are kinda a hidden gem in metal circles. They’re not as well known as bands like Dragonforce who came later and were inspired by Rhapsody. They deserve more credit for their excellent music and storytelling. Thank you.
Finally some Fabio Lione! I knew this moment would come. Many people hate him, but he is such a versatile singer. "Lamento Eroico" is one of his best performances, but it's full of good stuff. A couple of examples: "Warrior of Ice", the first part of "Symphony of Enchanted Lands", "Erian's Mystical Rhymes", the middle part of "Sacred Power of Raging Winds" where it seems he is acting... Otherwise, for something totally different there are "When Demons Awake" or "Reign of Terror", where he shows some harsh vocals.
@@xenodan3000 Here in Italy it happens often, unfortunately. Many people think he is overrated (together with the band). Usually these people are not power metal fans.
@@MrMetallization Is he that much popular in Italy? Well, its probably logial as he is italian, among my acquaintances nobody knows Rhapsody and in general the band is not that popular
@@Victoria_Mayer Well yes, talking about metal yes, he is, and the band too. They are very famous outside Italy too, in South America even. After all they are part of that group of bands that at the end of the 90's gave new life to power metal, and Rhapsody especially were pioneers in the symphonic power metal field. However, if you talk to Italian people who are not into metal they don't know who he is! They have no clue at all.
I came here to fangirl about you reviewing Rhapsody, not to let loose my tears for Christopher Lee's passing...that voice is amazing. Also Fabio Lione is the best name for this man - "fabulous lion" haha what a legend!
Whenever I hear Lee I can't help but think that where many voices exude the fluidity of water or the airiness of the wind or the heat of a flame; his voice is like a mountain soothingly unmovable.
Ignore the meme bit in this clip, but I always found it quite disappointing how he used his voice in this bit: th-cam.com/video/qYCe_dnW5cs/w-d-xo.html He can do so much more than this! Other than that, he was absolutely amazing!
I got the opportunity to see them live and obviously Sir Christopher Lee wasn’t there, Fabio did both voices and it was mind blowing he could reach both extremes, amazing musicians.
To me, the breathy, wide vibrato that Fabio has in the softer sections mirrors the sound of the flute. It's especially noticeable in the beginning when the flute opens the song and then drops out to be replaced by Fabio. Been a huge fan of this band for 10+ years, so it's so cool hearing you react to them!
Finally Rhapsody. Amazing band, I recommend the albums with fabio to all my friends who love fantasy literature and fantasy games. They also have many elements of classical music and medieval music. Well done for finally playing video clips from the lovely Italians and featuring fabio's voice.
what I love about that album is they decided to use Lee as a narrator. Unfortunately there is not too much live footage around. HOwever, some of their songs are a must listen.
I tracked down the DVD when they released it way back in the day for this exact reason. Live footage was so hard to come by. Everyone gushes over Fabio's vocals but I wanted to see Luca shredding haha
Finally a reaction to Rhapsody! I was hoping you'd react to Lamento Eroico first but I think this was a great introduction. Now I'm crossing my fingers you'll listen to Haggard's Eppur Si Muove in the near future! Exquisite reaction, Christopher Lee even had a solo project and released an album named Charlemagne: The Omens of Death in 2013 at 91 years old, 2 years before he passed away in 2015. RIP Christopher Lee.
I actually initially discovered Beast In Black due to them supporting Rhapsody in their farewell shows. On the single of Magic of the Wizard's dream, they do a German version, Italian version and French version. As Fabio has said before, they would have done more, but he couldn't speak as many languages fluently as Sir Christopher Lee
I am so glad that you are finally reacting to Rhapsody - they deserve the recognition! This band is one of the best things to happen to metal in the last 25 years, and in my opinion Fabio is the greatest metal singer alive. Rhapsody are arguably the godfathers of symphonic power metal, also mixing in classical, baroque, folk music, progressive metal, and what not. Luca Turilli, their guitar player, lyricist, composer, and overall ideologist, is an absolute genius - you should check his solo work too.
That reaction when Fabio starts soaring took me right back to when I had the same feeling upon first hearing them 20 years ago. I think it was "Land of Immortals". This band changed what I knew music could be.
Rhapsody of Fire is an excellent example of this sort of genre of metal. Also, Christopher Lee is ICONIC in power metal! I urge you to explore more of this type of music! It's so so good!
I won't hear any different, we are all in love with Fabio's voice. Rhapsody deserves a HUGE amount more attention. They have created absolute masterpieces that are locked away and forgotten in time.
Lee and Rhapsody of Fire had a great relationship. His final performance is on their album The Eighth Mountain which was released a few years after he died. I did a double take on my first listen l was so surprised.

Two legends, Christopher and Fabio Lione! Many Angra's fan don't like to have Lione as vocalist. On the other hand I think it's amazing to have this legend with us singing in Angra, in a brazilian band.
I love that you say classical music and metal are meant to go together. I never really understood people that say it is a crossover of completely different or opposite genres, even if they say it somehow works. For me it always made sense. Obviously there is contrast, but contrast does not mean something does not belong together. When done right classical music and metal fuse so perfectly, that you would not even think of it as a two genres meeting, but as music that was always meant to be this way.
I agree wholeheartedly. I first heard them brought together in the mid seventies. To this day I don't understand why the combination didn't didn't immediately take over the airwaves.
Fabio's vibrato is unmistakable. I knew it was him the first time I heard his guest part in Twilight Force's "There and Back Again", or the first time I heard the band Vision Divine.
One of Fabio bands right now (Angra, from Brazil) has a song in a dvd called Stand Away with Tara (former Nightwish) and his opera voice goes waaaaay beyond. Sure You Elizabeth and other viewers would love a react.
Rhapsody are simply EPIC!!! They are the first symphonic metal band I ever heard. I was hooked immediately upon first hearing their song, Wisdom Of The Kings, way back around 1999.
Rhapsody of Fire is my biggest favourite Simphonic Power Metal band to date and Christopher Lee one of my favourite Actors and he also himself became a Heavy Metal performer at the age of 91 years young!! Which is a world record!
If I remember correctly Christopher Lee was overheard whilst singing by an Opera singer when he was on holiday with friends and the Opera Singer offered to mentor Christopher. (I admit my source could be wrong). Edit: Ahh, here we go. Telling a story of traveling to Stockholm, Sweden, Lee revealed that opera legend Jussi Bjorling had once told him how he clearly possesses the talent and could easily become a top-class opera singer one day. He sadly lacked the funds/funding to stay in Sweden to study with Jussi.
It finally happened! So happy to see you do this band, and adding in Sir Christopher Lee is an added bonus! Would be awesome to see you explore some more of their catalogue like Emerald Sword. The band twilight force would also be worth your time
i'm italian and i preffer this version. in english i can enjoy the good music, in italian i cannot avoid to notice the cheesiness and childishness of the lyrics. most probably they are at the same level in both versions, but listening the song in english i can ignore them.
Now, for those that aren't familiar with Rhapsody of Fire, of which I fear there may be all too many many, this is one of the most unRhapsody songs they ever did. They are most known for the super fast neoclassical riffs and orchestral stravaganzas. However, if you like them in ballad mode, you'll probably enjoy Il Canto del Vento th-cam.com/video/6NQ5rwwxxGY/w-d-xo.html, Son of Pain th-cam.com/video/xMdZ7kRX6dE/w-d-xo.html or Notturno from Luca Turilli's Rhapsody th-cam.com/video/PsaY2doyHoI/w-d-xo.html, among others. The younger guy really has a lighthearted rock voice when he goes full out. I like that. Christopher Lee, well... he's had classical theater training, so he knows how to project his voice. They resonate really well together going full out.
RHAPSODY!!!!! I've been requesting them for a LONG time here..... Please do more from them!!! :) I think the power opera note at the end was Fabio, based on what he's done in some other opera-influenced Rhapsody songs.
Rhapsody are one of those bands that just put a smile on your face. Incredible musicians. Throw in Christopher Lee whose own metal albums are interesting and he worked with Manowar
@@Thomaznovaki Respectfully disagree. Depriving Elizabeth from ICS Vortex would be a complete shame. Orchestral live arrangements are nice and all, but all that choir does not compare to Vortex, in my opinion.
Love this song! Fabio and Christopher Lees vocals blend so well together. You should do Candlemass with Messiah Marcolin on vocals one day. Messiah has one of the greatest voices ever!
Check out the Italian and German versions. Sir Christopher is a legend. Your delight when they begin the chorus is fun! Thank you, I've been a die-hard Christopher Lee fan since 1968. Dracula, Sherlock Holmes, Bond villain, Star Wars villain, LOTR good guy/villain, Three Musketeers villain, neighbors with Boris Karloff, best friends with Peter Cushing, Vincent Price and John Carradine....Heavy metal singer (oldest person to release a metal album) = amazing.
Rhapsody is one of my favorite bands. The song "Sacred Power of Raging Winds" is my absolute favorite. Especially since Christopher Lee narrates the begging as a wizard casting a spell. Would definitely check it out.
Love that you reacted/listened to this version, it's so amazing! I hope you listen to more of Rhapsody's work, Fabio is such an amazing singer. One of my favourite bands of all time, love 'em!
Fabio Lione is also a great singer, very versatile, he has a lyrical background. studied lyrical singing at a very young age, he already outlined it in some interviews, songs like... Rhapsody - Lamento Eroico live Turilli/Lione Rhapsody - Amata immortale rhapsody of fire - erian mystical rhymes, live Angra - Stand Away feat. Tarja Turunen live Rhapsody of fire - reign of terror are my indications
1. Because of Sir Christopher's pronunciation / accents during the solo parts, this deep voice reminds me more of patriotic songs from the first half of the XX century (at least the ones in my country had similar feel to them). 2. The parts where they sing together sound as if they could be in a movie, singing on the other sides of the world, looking at the same night sky.
Perhaps the best example of the versatility of Fabio Lione is a song called “Reign of Terror”. I absolutely recommend it as well as any song of Rhapsody of Fire from Fabio’s time in the band.
That extra-layered voice closer to the very end was Fabio's. The man is in a league of his own, sometimes he does harsh vocals, sometimes he sings very low, at concerts he sings Nessun Dorma just for fun, in breaks between the songs.
Omg Christopher Lee is incredible. Can I just say also, that I love the very specific way you bring your knowledge to your videos. Just your facial expressions are a delight themselves.
Yes! Rhapsody, Fabio is one of my all time favorite singers, easilly up there with likes of Halford and Dio. Hopefully you do more Rhapsody to see more of his range. Lee appeared as a narrator and character within the story on multiple Rhapsody albums and it gave him the spark to work with other metal bands and eventually he released a metal album of his own. P.s. you cant simply sing power metal without using your hands.
I enjoyed this review very much. I do agree they were pioneers and I opened my ears to beautiful music thanks to them. I like that you try to explain what's happening inside using your hands :). BTW the extra layer by the end... Fabio's signature, especially in "super" epic songs. Lovely!
This was the band back in 1997 that made me feel in love with Power Metal (Symphonic). Luca Turilli is a Genius! The album Symphonic of Enchanted Land is a master piece. Please, listening Dark Tower of Abyss, is pure Classic Music!
The voice at the end is just another layer of Fabio's opera singing voice. You should check out more of him, he has SUCH a powerful voice and is extremely versatile (he can literally go from opera to growls). If you like Symphonic Power Metal, you can also try Luca Turilli's Rhapsody with Alessandro Conti has the main singer. Mr. Turilli was Rhapsody of Fire's guitarist, so you can imagine that Alessandro's voice must be pretty special if Luca traded Fabio for him ;) They're both very good in their own way and they even made an album together (Lione/Conti) which is ok but nothing spectacular. Thank you for paying more attention to Fabio he definitely deserves it! You'll find MANY interesting songs by him :)
@@sarahnadeofpoetry The first person to leave the line-up was Luca because he wanted to play in a solo project (Luca Turilli's Rhapsody, only 2 albums but Ascending to Infinity is my favorite album of all time) with his own style, so it was a friendly breakup. Fabio did 2 more albums with Rhapsody of FIre but then decided to leave and instead to join Luca in ANOTHER project called Truilli/Lione Rhapsody. It's different, modern and very rich. Rhapsody of Fire is still an active band with new members and they're great, but from my personal opinion I prefer Luca Turilli's compositions.
Luca Turilli’s Rhapsody is perfection. The Turilli/Lione Zero Gravity also. I've suggested Prometheus, Zero Gravity and Notturno a bunch of times, but...
@@sarahnadeofpoetryAccording to Fabio, he and the others left because, after the first album without Luca, Alex Starapoli booked only a few dates for shows and they got nothing, because there was no proper tour. One of my favorite songs of Rhapsody, those about the contrast between Fabio and Christopher. Christopher Lee is a real legend. I was so sad when he passed away. His voice was really intesting, so deep... Rhapsody told him like a narrator, and has a singer. At his venerable age !!!

Fabio has 3 different voices: the soft voice in beginning, the metal voice in the chorus and opera voice, when he sings "crystal reeeeeealms" at the end... He also sings the Christopher's part like opera in others versions of this song
Rhapsody - Emerald Sword. You will LOVE this song. It's got dragons, it's got a sword, it's got adventure. Man, what a song. I'm going to go listen to it now.
the voice in the background at the end "crystal realms" is actually fabio the singer of rhapsody cause when fabio sings opera he sounds like a completely different person ❤🎶
I love Rhapsody of Fire and I somehow didn't know that this song was made. Loved Christopher Lee too, the man was an amazing actor and he killed his part in any movie I seen him in.
Curious fact: konami contacted the rhapsody representative to make the music for Castlevania, but due to the representative's ignorance regarding that, he rejected the proposal without consulting the band members, who upon finding out, some time later, could not believe what had happened

@@pheumann86 Thank you for the in-depth comment, was wondering about that.
Fabio is an amazing vocalist and has A LOT of tricks under his belt. Such a nice guy! Looking forward to seeing more of his performances on the channel. 🧙♂
I am hoping for at least three more. But I met him once, was quite rude to be honest. But I still love his work
I’m so glad you did this.
I love Fabio, but actually never heard anyone complaining about him, its that real?
@@MrMetallization ahh, i thought even non metal people also know him, that woild be suprising
Seriously, was there anything that Christopher Lee could not do?! Such a creative force!
Failure... Yes, failure was not on his repertoire! 😎
He actually released his own heavy metal album
Pretty sure he had to use a dictionary to look up the meaning of the word 😁
I came here to fangirl about you reviewing Rhapsody, not to let loose my tears for Christopher Lee's passing...that voice is amazing. Also Fabio Lione is the best name for this man - "fabulous lion" haha what a legend!
Sir Christopher Lee was a treasure, not only a brilliant actor but stage actor and singer!
One of the most iconic voices in movie history
Whenever I hear Lee I can't help but think that where many voices exude the fluidity of water or the airiness of the wind or the heat of a flame; his voice is like a mountain soothingly unmovable.
A quality he shares with Orson Welles.
Soothingly immovable is the best description of Christopher Lee's voice that I have heard. 🤘
Ignore the meme bit in this clip, but I always found it quite disappointing how he used his voice in this bit: th-cam.com/video/qYCe_dnW5cs/w-d-xo.html
He can do so much more than this!
Other than that, he was absolutely amazing!
When I hear his voice I picture a lion singing.
This world lost something very special when Christopher Lee left it. But he definitely left legends behind him. Class act.
I grew up a Hammer fan, and Christopher Lee is my Dracula. An extremely talented man who lived an epic life.
This band open my world to metal and i can only say thank you world!! They have amazing music.
Lee's enunciation is so precise - part of the power.
Christopher Lee...
The Man with the Golden Voice.
😊😊😊
Rhapsody of Fire is musical magic, and Christopher Lee's voice is the spell!!
There even seems to be a bit of A Song Of Ice And Fire in it @11:36 .
Or at least that guy looks like Ramsay Bolton! ;-)
The Dark Tower of Abyss is a fantastic representation of pure symphonic/neo classical metal
Seems I've been postponing buying that one for too long. 🤘🤘
@@luisnunes3863 I must acquire this myself also, this was one fact I was unaware of, I feel like a screening of The Man with the Golden Gun is on the cards for tonight
@@XcOM9871 If only someone out of Japan reprinted the 2 Rhapsody albums with C. Lee, that'd be good. 😟😟
@@luisnunes3863 there are 5 albums with Sir Christopher Lee (the whole Dark Secret saga) + The Eighth Mountain
@@gergelyszabo8961 You're right, but I was thinking of Triumph or Agony and Symphony of the Enchanted Lands II in particular, those are impossible to find these days.
Oh man, I went through a whole Rhapsody PHASE in my early 20s. Great songs.
Two legends, Christopher and Fabio Lione! Many Angra's fan don't like to have Lione as vocalist. On the other hand I think it's amazing to have this legend with us singing in Angra, in a brazilian band.
i don´t like Angra as band for LIONE. lol. too much singer for such band. Xd just joking.
Wow. I have not heard this song in about a decade. Thank you Elizabeth for bringing it back for me. Loved it and loved your analysis.
I saw Rhapsody few times since their first record and they were amazing. I met Fabio two times and he’s really a nice guy, love everything he did.
The band twilight force would also be worth your time
The Italian version of this song has an even more epic sound to it ❤
Give me link..i will watch it right now
I like the German version best.
The German versión too!
That's interesting; Christopher Lee's ancestors were Italian.
i'm italian and i preffer this version.
in english i can enjoy the good music, in italian i cannot avoid to notice the cheesiness and childishness of the lyrics.
most probably they are at the same level in both versions, but listening the song in english i can ignore them.
I just found your channel. After searching your name just WOW! ... you must surely be the most highly qualified vocal coach on YT!
Son of Pain it's awesome!!
Chrisopher Lee made multiple albums with metal covers of christmas songs at 90 years old, an absolute legend to say the least!
One of the best albums ever made, from start to finish. A masterpiece. And this song, geez, give me the chills.
To be honest, I never was that impressed with Fabio as a singer, until I saw Rhapsody last summer. His range really is amazing.
None of us will ever be as cool as Christopher Lee. He's a flipping legend!
Hands down one of the most underrated songs. What a pleasant surprise to see it get some attention. :D
Omg this takes me BACK. The sheer nostalgia you’ve awoken in me!! I love seeing this get some love ❤❤❤
I can only recommend diving more into Fabio Lionne's work. I was really lucky to see him live and he was astonishing
Is amazing that the another voice at the end is also Fabio, what a precious memories
Would love to see Dimmu Borgir's Progenies Of The Great Apocalypse live performance on the channel. Metal + symphonic orchestra.
The Forcers of the Northern Night live version is amazing
@@Thomaznovaki Respectfully disagree. Depriving Elizabeth from ICS Vortex would be a complete shame. Orchestral live arrangements are nice and all, but all that choir does not compare to Vortex, in my opinion.
@@gustavmetal maybe she can check both versions 😂 although we know that won't happen
lamento eroico is a very good song to continue discovering the power of Fabio Lione's voice.
Also live is a very powerfully version of Con Te Partirò
Love this song! Fabio and Christopher Lees vocals blend so well together. You should do Candlemass with Messiah Marcolin on vocals one day. Messiah has one of the greatest voices ever!
Sir Christopher Lee lived such an interesting life. Definitely worth to learn more about him.
I Was with Fabio in a x recording studio, he's a terrific vocal machine! He actually nail a whole song in a single take
Check out the Italian and German versions.
Rhapsody - Lamento Eroico live
Turilli/Lione Rhapsody - Amata immortale
rhapsody of fire - erian mystical rhymes, live
Angra - Stand Away feat. Tarja Turunen live
Rhapsody of fire - reign of terror
are my indications
Yes! YES!! Rhapsody of Fire!! Thank you! Absolute legends and one of my favourite bands ever!
Lee could speak multiple languages was a friend to JRR Tolkien and fought in WW2 this guy was and is a real life bad ass
Perhaps the best example of the versatility of Fabio Lione is a song called “Reign of Terror”. I absolutely recommend it as well as any song of Rhapsody of Fire from Fabio’s time in the band.
More Rhapsody please, I love all of their phases, there are great songs for each era of the band
That extra-layered voice closer to the very end was Fabio's. The man is in a league of his own, sometimes he does harsh vocals, sometimes he sings very low, at concerts he sings Nessun Dorma just for fun, in breaks between the songs.
Was it really?! That's mad! I always assumed it was Christopher, because it sounds more akin to his timbre. Amazing!
@@Summ3rFru1tz yeah, I've recently watched his performance of this very song from live in Brasil: th-cam.com/video/m28ZZILgeU8/w-d-xo.html
@& Roid BRB just picking my jaw back up from the floor! He is phenomenal!
Love this, Fabio is one of the Best singers alive please more from him, reing of terror its nice
Why did Fabio leave Rhapsody? I'm new to the band.
It was Mr Lee's voice.
Alex reformed Rhapsody with only one original member, himself, all the others are now in the Turilli/Lione Rhapsody.
One of my favorite songs of Rhapsody, those about the contrast between Fabio and Christopher. Christopher Lee is a real legend. I was so sad when he passed away. His voice was really intesting, so deep... Rhapsody told him like a narrator, and has a singer. At his venerable age !!!
Cristopher Lee had such a voice that he can do what he wanted . LEGEND.Till the end of his life he regretted not accepting Jossi Bjorling offer to train him as operatic voice You should listen to all his abums . I reccomend Sharlemaagne by the cross and the sword. He was legand and legend he will stay
So excited to see this! Rhapsody has been one of my favorites for 2 decades.
More please!!!
You should really check out more of Fabio Lione, he is the current singer for the Brazilian band Angra, and the man is a monster on the stage.!
Yes do some angra songs. It’s all gold really.

Yes, we want more Rhapsody of Fire on the channel, please!
the voice in the background at the end "crystal realms" is actually fabio the singer of rhapsody cause when fabio sings opera he sounds like a completely different person ❤🎶
