  • In the first episode of The Racket, journalist and author Matt Kennard speaks to former Labour leader and Member of British Parliament Jeremy Corbyn. They discuss US secret service and mainstream media attempts to derail his leadership, US/UK support for Israeli genocide in Palestine and the upcoming UK election.
The Racket is a series of interviews based on the book The Racket: A Rogue Reporter vs The American Empire by Matt Kennard. The series examines the power of the US empire around the world and its attempts to control nations via war and economic strangulation.
Throughout the series Matt Kennard and guests will investigate the violent colonial beginnings of the most powerful nation in history, the tightening of its global stronghold post World War II, the crushing of dissent via CIA interference and its various ongoing wars around the world from a range of perspectives.
Matt Kennard is co-founder and chief investigator at Declassified UK, a news outlet investigating British foreign policy. He was a fellow and then director at the Centre for Investigative Journalism (CIJ) in London. He has worked as a staff writer for the Financial Times in Washington DC, New York, and London. He is the author of two acclaimed books: Irregular Army (2012), The Racket (2015) and Silent Coup (2023).

I wish I could meet Jeremy Corbyn, shake his hand and profoundly apologise to him. I was a supporter, but this stance on Brexit made me sour and conflicted, ready to embrace the lies of the smear campaign orchestrated against him. They made me “see” an alleged dark side and convinced me he was not fit for office. When he was removed from the party, I was almost meh with the whole situation. It’s only because of the recent tragedies and the genocide in Gaza that I started digging more into the Israeli influences and why it was so difficult to call for a ceasefire… Long story short, I connected many dots and saw very vividly all that had happened around Corbyn. Many times in these past months I thought about writing to him, but as a perfect nobody I don’t believe I would be able to reach him. I’m just so happy, almost in tears, that Islington was still able to come together with their support and vote for him so resoundingly ✊🏻

While we have FPTP, protest votes against Labour by voting for Indy / Green candidates will change nothing.
Jeremy and the Unions breaking from the Labour Party and forming a new movement would mobilise all of the support he has around candidates across the country that choose to run under his banner. And effectively delegitimise Keir's neo-liberals and make them a version of the Lib Dems.
We NEED one movement like this, and the Unions would offer the logistics / funding / backing / legitimacy for this. Much like a ... errr ... Labour Movement.

In any particular moment that's not important, what's important is that it's a long-established & entrenched mechanism that can be roused quickly & quietly to achieve a particular role & then resume its slumber.

When Labour canvassers came calling to ask for my vote in the upcoming election, I told them I couldn't vote for them since they knee-capped Corbyn. Their spokesman sneeringly denied it. And I sneeringly slammed the door in their faces.

When I listen to these rare truth tellers in our wilderness of mirrors, I have to ask myself "Why doesn't every single person listening like this????? This is how we (not someone else) spread the word! Smash the like button! Easy! and so much appreciated by the journalists who take extraordinary care and effort to bring us truth.

Great interview Matt, I have just got The Racket 2nd edition, I will get The Silent Coup next!
(it may take a while to read as it's a chonky book!)
I doubt Sunak or Starmer would be as well informed and eloquent as Jeremy!
Matt, I really liked how you gave him plenty of time to answer questions and ellaborate which is rare nowadays, I learnt a lot from both of you!
I was also disgusted that so many foreign powers said JC "wasn't allowed" to be PM!
I wish we had a local MP like you and I think you would have been a great PM!**
Good luck in Islington North Jeremy!
