Thank you for the video. You gave me ideas to fix my problem. My LCD size is very pricey exceeding the value of the machine. I tried a smaller lcd and it worked with some re-alignment that I plan to make a youtube video to help others. Also, the LCD cable comes with 0.5mm pitch. It looks to be a standard these days. My machine is 1mm pitch. To overcome it, I cut out each wire and re-size the pitch. Delicate work but really easy with just a scissors. Once each wire is cut out, I can re-assign the wire to match. The OEM connection was 1 2 3 4 and off-market had to rewire to 2 3 4 1. Luckily it is just as easy as shift all the wire over by 1. Resize the pitch to 1mm was minimal effort. The machine is working well again. I use your video as a base to make my own repair.
@@snowman_5803 The Pinout from Julie has not worked for me... I has to change like this 1 2 3 4 to 1 3 2 4. So just swapped to two middle cables and it worked. If wiring is wrong, you will get absolutely no response....
My broken Designer 1 brought me here. This repair is beyond my abilities. I guess I’ll have to be price gouged at my local dealer. Thank you for this video. At least I’ll know the real cost of this repair.
mrviper100- Yes. I see that. I didn’t expect it to be so complicated. I’ve replaced a Samsung tablet battery via TH-cam! 🤷🏻♀️. I didn’t expect ‘skip wires...every other one is a positive...take knife and kind of trim...like this. You’re audience isn’t a typical female. That’s all I’m saying. Thank you for your response. I need to rest now. I have to prepare for the exorbitant bill I’ll have to pay in order to hem a pair of pants from a coworker who isn’t paying me anything
I also have a Designer 1, and it's broken to. We don't have a repair shop here. I moved to the country, from the big city. I will show this to my husband.
Thank you so much for your help, I was so disappointed after buying this machine and having the same thing happen. I am trying to get someone with some knowledge about this so they can follow what you did. This is not a cheap machine to have this happen with such little use.
* Just an innocent by stander who owns 2 Designer 1 sewing machines and have experienced some of the same problems. I suggest that you go to the TH-cam Search Bar and put in "The Sewing Machine Repair Guy" He repairs Viking machines and also teaches other how to do the repairs.
I tried this with the recommended LM057QC1T01 touch screen. Next I tried calibrating the touch screen but absolutely no response. Which face of the touch screen faces the user? Any suggestions? Maybe the motherboard? thanks
You gave me a hope on my not working touch screen machine! Thank you. Was your problrm and I the same? Mine, not response when I touched it. I can't chose anything on screen. But it still can fill the bobbin, fill in auto thread. (It show how to fill in thread to the bobbin). Is this only need to buy the screen? On eBay? I will ask a good tecnician to do this...not me to do. I don't want break my lovely machine😁. Thankyou for your answer...i 'm waiting for it💖
pona pona this is not an easy task! This is VERY difficult to change, especially the way I did it. To answer your question, yes the touch panel would not respond when touched.
wow, great job! I got my front panel off but broke one of the wires - i cant seem to find it on the part list, any idea where i could find the cable that connects to the LCD display transformer box? it's a small 2 wire cable with 2 plastic ends.
ahh the issue is that the plastic broke! my husband tried to superglue it but we're not 100% that we had the wires in the correct order. i love this machine and i hope i can fix it inexpensively :( thanks for your time!
It's been two years since you posted this hack. Can you tell me if the screen is working normally still? May try this on my machine, but need to make sure it has longevity. Thanks for a response!
Yes, thank you. I recall my husband finding the tool used to take it apart in years past. My son is very tech savvy and he would be the one to do this, not me ;). I appreciate the video should we go this route! If you recall any special tips on taking the machine apart, or links to direct me to, then I thank you!
Carrie - Will you reply describing the progress of your repair, including tool used to take machine apart (more specifically: getting to the inside to remove the screen)? We love our Designer 1 but the screen seems to be a part that fails and the Viking company isn't the best at customer service -- they'd prefer you buy one of their new machines - some which cost as much as a good used car . . . . :-|

which side of the new LM057QC1T01 touch panel faces the user?

Caroline Miller you absolutely have to be electricity inclined to pull off this repair.

I found one of these machines at my local Goodwill and I am so hoping this works for me! I have my screen ordered! Thank you for sharing.
very nice technical thinking. I would've never thought of this.
Thank you for this video, I'm on SS and this is my only avenue for repair.... Thanks a bunch for the help!!
Thank you very much for the information I hope my little brother (54) be able to fix my Disigner I
Great video. How did you take the machine apart?
I'm having problen taking off the fron panel.
Mine has a much longer cord than the one that is shown here, even though it is folded. Do you think this one will be long enough?
I just did this repair today. Works fantastic! Thanks so much. I was told I would have to recycle the machine....thankfully, not!
Great job as this is not an easy task!

THANK YOU!!!!! Touch screen successfully replaced...now to get it back together!
Are there any ones that are not original that can be just be given to the repair man to use to repair the machine?
Not that I'm aware of.

relysh42, Not sure on the wire you are describing. You can probably remove the pin inside the plastic end and try to resolder it.
ahh the issue is that the plastic broke! my husband tried to superglue it but we're not 100% that we had the wires in the correct order.

I need to do this
does this screen illuminate? or is it just a digitizer?
romansoldierofhonor It is just a digitizer.

Carrie it is still working and my wife uses it every day. Please note that the four pin ribbon cable needs to be modified. This is not an easy step.
Carrie it is also a challenge to get the machine apart.
Yes, thank you. I recall my husband finding the tool used to take it apart in years past. My son is very tech savvy and he would be the one to do this, not me ;). Carrie yes the screen still works after I repaired it.
How did you get the panel out of the machine?
Hi, How do you know what numbers on the touch screen to go by? Like OEM or LM057QC1T01?
zslinky44 just search for LM057QC1T01 or LM057QC1T08 on eBay. I see a few for $7 from China.
My machine is a PFAFF 2170, not a Viking. Does this matter?
zslinky44 no clue. I'm a hack at sewing machine repair.
SHOW DON'T TELL.
