    I was always hesitant about shooting colour neg film in low light. Just goes to show that if you give it enough exposure you can indeed tease out every drop of colour in the subject. In my case it inevitably ended up with that awful green tinge of under exposed colour neg stock. Nice work again Steve.

    I’ve been enjoying your videos for ages, Steve, but never commented before. Thanks for loads of inspiration. The thing is, I’ve only ever known digital. I’ve never owned a film camera. But, I love your passion for film, and the special qualities that film images have. So, my question... Have you ever considered doing a video (or series) to help digital folks like me get into film? Step by step... I don’t really know where to start! Thanks again!

    • @SteveONions

      Thanks Kudo, I’ve not really thought about doing such videos but it would probably be useful for a lot of people who would like to try film for the first time. I’d need to break it down into a series I think as there is too much to cover in one video.

    Interesting to see how the video (Go Pro) renders the colours v the Ektar colourneg - the closest being the image at 3.04 I reckon? As we didn't see that many images do I take it some of those later images didn't turn out as well as you hoped? Disappointing to see you no longer post the images on Flick, IG is not really my bag - the whole phone swiping exercise is a bit of a bug bear of mine. :( Atb Alan

      @SteveONions  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Alan. I’ve become more and more disillusioned with Flickr and wouldn’t be surprised to see it go under to be honest.
      A lot of the images later on the day were blurred due to wind and soft sand on long exposures. During the morning most were just rubbish 😀

  • @MpenziYako
    @MpenziYako 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Fascinating video, I'd no idea the Nikon Fe could handle long exposures automatically. I have an FE which is in lovely condition externally but the light meter does not work it seems and the shutter speed remains on the mechanical 90 on Auto or manual. Is it worth having it professionally repaired one asks one self!

    • @SteveONions
      @SteveONions  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s gone to the mechanical speed so either a power or shutter problem. Worth cleaning the battery compartment and contracts first as a repair is unlikely to be cost effective.

    What is your focus technique in such light? Also, what would you say is the equivalent in megapixels to 35mm film -generally? To me it seems about 20 megapixels maybe a bit more sometimes depending on the film, lens, technique and the like.

    • @SteveONions
      @SteveONions  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Focus was largely infinity given the lack of any foreground - the smallish apertures covered any problems too.
      In terms of 35mm resolution it depends on so many factors, not least the film stock itself. As a general rule I’d agree with Canon who I believe once stated 12mp but I have seen extraordinary results that would indicate it is often much higher.

    • @johnjon1823
      @johnjon1823 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Bobby Brady It would be interesting for someone to do comparisons of the same shot on digital and film and see at 100% what different films and scan methods yield in comparison to a full digital image. Difficult if not impossible to do perfectly due to lens differences etc. One wonders how all that compares to say using a D850 to make copies of film. I don't think I've ever seen any evaluations like that, that I can recall. Thanks for the information!

    • @johnjon1823
      @johnjon1823 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Bobby Brady I find it interesting to think about. The dust issues was a pain in my behind when I used to print B&W at home years ago, and scanning it for more detail would enhance the headache. But film is just a different medium and it has its own look and fussy nature too. Thanks for the information. Very best wishes!
