Knuckles has been treated like a joke in the past decade. Hopefully the movie will make him at least better and he will be strong and a good ally for Sonic
This is also the one chance we have at seeing him as a member of his tribe. Memes aside, I would like to see an establishing shot where the echidnas are out training with their masks on and all and Knuckles interrupts his training to show a random act of kindness to a wild animal (like putting a baby Flicky back into its nest), which gets him mocked by the other echidnas his age. He then proceeds to single-handedly kick their asses and resumes his training without even saying a single word. It would establish him as a seemingly cold but skilled warrior who is not to be messed with, but with a kind heart underneath. There’s not even a need for him to get frustrated at the other echidnas, I actually think that honor should be reserved for Sonic alone for the time being. Sonic should be able to bring something out in him that his tribe can’t and while it may not seem like it at first, it eventually turns out to be for the better.
Honestly, the perfect way to put Ugandan Knuckles is the way they put in Sanic: a quick gag thanks to Crazy Carl's drawing and ramblings about the "blue devil" was the right way to go for Sanic, who's to say we couldn't see a return to that with Carl showing Tom (and possibly Sonic) a drawing of a "red devil" who has been stealing from him, and when Sonic sees Ugandan Knuckles, he has a flashback to Longclaw's supposed death (and for all we know she may be alive), and he gets angry and maybe does a stakeout to find Knuckles, which leads to them coming to blows. In addition, Pachacamac could do like The Mandalorian with "This is The Way" when Knuckles questions his power-hungry motives and Pachacamac would say that their way is to conquer and rule, only for Tikal to say, "No, our way is to protect our people and the Master Emerald and NOT be violent warmongering sociopaths!" I may be spitballing here, but it's not the meme itself that is bad, it's all in how you do it. Like the chili dogs in the bar fight and the Sanic meme. I think Fowler and the gang can do it. I totally agree with that. That was the best way to sneak a meme in a movie without it being on the nose like his example in this video. Another crappy example was win one of the incarcerated asylum guys in 2018 “The Predator” said “Het to the chopper.” That scene left everyone cringing in pain.

I‘m sort of hoping for a Prince Zuko kind of character arc where Knuckles has a warped sense of duty and honor and wants to capture Sonic as his tribe once failed to do, but comes to see the error of his ways.
If they managed to give a personalty to Sonic that feels true to the character, then surely they can do the same for Knuckles. After all, if there's one thing the Sonic Movie has proven, it's proved there are true dedicated fans that are working on this film sequel.
When Knuckles has spent pretty much most of his life alone, not really interacting with other people, ofcourse he's going to be naive, but that doesn't mean to say he's an idiot. Along with fixing Knuckles, here's hope they make Tails look good as well, though going off the post credits scene of the first movie they're already off to a better start compared to how Tails was in Forces, stuck having to carry that bad tribute act, Classic.
As a quiet kid, I connected the most with Shadow because I was introverted but really cared about the people around me. My first sonic game on the ps2 was Heroes and Shadow. I honestly never got that impression of Knuckles, I just kind of viewed him as a typical "surfer dude." Like I guess Shadow had a harder time revealing his feelings than Knuckles. I wish I could have gotten into Sonic when Adventure was popular. Hopefully we get a remaster someday

I'm certainly not worried about the way Knuckles will be portrayed in the movie. Josh Miller (one of the co-writers of the movie) seems to be a huge fan of Knux, after all.
The thing that annoys me the most about Knuckles’s role in the more modern games is that you could easily replace him with Vector and both characters integrity wouldn’t be damaged. Vector was always meant to be the more comedic and cocky type of character, much like how the writers want to believe knuckles is. Obviously there are exceptions like Forces or Mania, but I find that replacing Knuckles with Vector makes more sense with the dialogue and comedic moments.
I don’t think you’ll have to worry about the memes affecting Knuckles’ character. After all, Sanic was brought up as a brief reference, and Sonic himself was done well. I imagine Ugandan Knuckles getting the same treatment as Sanic. As for Boom Knuckles, I seriously doubt Paramount will bring that up.
I'm exited to think that the series will be a full on Cinematic Universe That only proves how important are stories to Sonic, it would be cool a retelling of Ángel Island events (Chaos) but i'm open to the idea of the movie team making their own stuff
@@ducestat06savage99 Not to mention that if you include the comics, Sonic and Knuckles have probably stalemated in battle over 5 or 6 times lol (even more so than sonic and shadow funnily enough). Sonic and Knuckles fought A LOT in Archie and the UK comics. Especially in pre-reboot Archie.
@@KallusGarnet Knuckles can only fly in his base form in the Archie comics and the OVA. Most media just gives him the ability to glide. Tbh I personally think all versions of Knuckles should be able to fly due to his connection to the emeralds and chaos energy but 🤷🏿♂️
Knuckles always seemed like the lone wolf type of guy, not because he wanted to be alone but because that's what he knows and his responsibilities keep him that way from others.
I think Knuckles would most likely appear during the credits/post credit scenes. Picture this: We see a pan shot jungle scene, revealing that the jungle to be part of Angel Island & then we "climb up" an ancient stair case/temple, revealing that the Master Emerald is on top. Then the red guy himself (Knuckles) shows up on every side of emerald to make sure there were no thieves/intruders lurking. Just when Knuckles thought it was going to be another boring safe day, all of a sudden, a long stream of smoke & a broken machine (Eggman in his escape pod after the Egg Star was blown up) fell right of the sky with a loud crash. And while Knuckles was looking at the direction where the crash is/was, a blue blur *hint-hint* comes out of nowhere & steals the Master Emerald. And the scene ends with Knuckles chasing after the blue thief.

I love this mini speculation/prediction about the second movie. Who knows maybe in the end they will tease Metal Sonic and in the third movie they will introduce Amy and in the end of that movie they can tease Shadow. There are so many paths they can take this franchise but the most important of all for me is to take it slow. Dont rush things and built your story and your characters to make them justice. I love the Sonic cast and the movies are the best way to make them great again.

I think it's a bit too soon for Knuckles. I would have preferred the movie be about Sonic and Tails mainly and then go to Knuckles in a third movie. But I think it could work if Knuckles is not Sonic's friend by the end of this and they save that for a third film instead. Like they're enemies at first and then by the end of the movie they aren't enemies but Knuckles isn't ready to accept Sonic and Tails as friends. I think that might work. But who knows maybe the film could work having both Tails and Knuckles become friends. I really want Silver Sonic to appear though.
Yeah, I‘m also kind of hoping that they’re saving his redemption for a third film and mainly use him as an antagonist here, but still show he‘s a good but misguided person at heart.

@@unknownshadow675 „Redemption arc“ doesn’t mean he has to be actually evil. I‘m thinking something like Zuko from Avatar. He was always portrayed as a good kid, just angry and obsessed with meeting an impossible standard of honor. His redemption arc was mostly him shedding his misguided beliefs which in turn lead to him stopping his aggression towards the protagonists, not the other way around. Of course, this would only work if they have Knuckles as a part of his tribe. If he’s all alone and only getting tricked by Eggman like he was in Sonic 3, he’s probably not going to need a redemption arc, but he may need some time to get to know the real Sonic.

Honestly I'm not exactly comfortable with them intourduceing kunkules as early as the squeal I'd kinda wanted it to rather have it be just sonic and tails vs Robotnik and mabey metal sonic on westside island and then for the next squeal have Robotnik team up with kunkules
If they make the sequel in a sonic 3 and knuckles style there are three teases they should put at the end of the movie 1 Rouge the bat she may not have much of a role but it will at least establish her character in the series going forward 2 Tikal Chaos and the chao 3 at the end Eggman realizing just how powerful super sonic was will stumble across the stone tablets at his defeat setting up a bigger plan leading into Sonic Adventure

This might be a bit of a hot take, but: Please not Dan Green. As someone who didn’t grow up with him as Knuckles, nothing he says as this character sounds like you can take it seriously. He literally made an attempted suicide sound goofy in S&TBK, unless they’re going for full comedy I don’t see the point in casting him for this role. He‘s a very talented guy, but he never felt like the right choice for this particular character to me. I think The Rock could do a decent job when it comes to combining incarnations, but I‘d have to wait until I see it in action. I personally would prefer a new VA that’s closer to Knuckles‘ Japanese voice since the voice in the Sonic X dub I grew up with was pretty close to the Japanese version, but I understand that most people grew up with Dan Green Knuckles and would like to hear him again. We‘ll have to see what they‘ll do.
Only thing I can say is while I want Knuckles to be better represented, I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with him having some bumbling elements to him. Sonic characters don't need to be all business all of the time, they should be allowed to have some comedic traits.
There are better comedic elements to bring to this character than just making him bumbling though. For example, I could see Knuckles just plain not understanding things like jokes and idioms because he takes everything he‘s told at face value. That would have comedic potential, but it would also enhance his personality and add an extra layer to his character: He’s not just gullible when the plot requires him to be tricked by Eggman, he just generally has trouble telling what people really mean when they are talking to him and there are several situations, both comedic and plot-relevant, where this comes up.
@@rainpooper7088 I agree. I just often feel like people are so against their favorite character having any flaws whatsoever, and they have to be presented as 100% positive all of the time. I didn't mind Knuckles making mistakes every now and then, I just think they overplayed it without ever giving him a point of redeeming himself. A character needs some kind of deficiency to keep them three-dimensional.
@@sonic5993 Yeah, the playing field was pretty uneven, especially when comparing him to Sonic and his main character plot armor. After the SA games, Sonic just got increasingly perfect with no one being allowed to challenge his coolness or catch him off-guard, which led to characters like Knuckles, Eggman and Amy who rely on getting different reactions out of Sonic being unable to function properly and just wound up having their flaws exaggerated for comedy without ever being able to punch back. But Movie Sonic isn’t like this, he has flaws, he has an emotional range and he isn’t the most experienced world saver. The writers aren’t obsessed with just making him „the coolest, other characters and good storytelling be damned“. This is what gives me hope.

I agree with most of this. But there some things that should not happen. Knuckles being a lone wolf should not happen. Maybe Knuckles should be on his own in the first parts he appears in the film, but later Knuckles should hang out with Tails, Sonic and Tom. He should even stay at Tom's house with Sonic or he should move into someone else's house in Green Hill, someone who is not a stupid and goofy idiot that will annoy Knuckles that is. Knuckles guarding the Master Emerald from birth to death and all the other lone wolf stuff is just stupid. It's two of many things that has been ruining his character since 2010. And as for movie Sonic being accurate or the Movie doing Sonic justice, that's just nonsense. The movie does NOT describe Sonic correct. One I was excited to see the Sonic Movie, as it was annouced in 2013, meaning I've waited 7 Years to see a Movie based on One Of My Favorite Video Game Franchises of All Time. Unfortnatley it became the Most Disappointing Movie I ever saw. And Two, what made Sonic So Special is a lot of reasons, but to me, I'd Say it's the Characters and Sense of Scope I.E the Level Design and World made Sonic a lot more realistic than his Longtime Rival Mario. The Movie, was just a Buddy Comedy, and only used Sonic as just an excuse to have a Big Name Actor to be the Main Character. And Sonic is pushed to the side. Personally I don't see what the whole big deal Why Everyone Loves The First Sonic Movie. Yeah it was cool... If it was release in the 90s! But the Sonic The Hedgehog Movie was released in 2020, Sonic has since been involved to have it's own continiunity and lore. Yeah sure The Archie Comics had it's Lore and Boom Originally had it's Own Lore. But The Archie Comics had to intergrade the game's lore and Boom had to try to balance out the Characters and their Personalities without changing them outright.
However look at how they treated the Sanic meme. They did tastefully well, without being too brought out throughout the movie.

I think Knuckles would most likely appear during the credits/post credit scenes.
Picture this:
We see a pan shot jungle scene, revealing that the jungle to be part of Angel Island & then we "climb up" an ancient stair case/temple, revealing that the Master Emerald is on top.
Then the red guy himself (Knuckles) shows up on every side of emerald to make sure there were no thieves/intruders lurking.
Just when Knuckles thought it was going to be another boring safe day, all of a sudden, a long stream of smoke & a broken machine (Eggman in his escape pod after the Egg Star was blown up) fell right of the sky with a loud crash.
And while Knuckles was looking at the direction where the crash is/was, a blue blur *hint-hint* comes out of nowhere & steals the Master Emerald.
And the scene ends with Knuckles chasing after the blue thief.
He's not going to be a post credit scene character, it is confirmed he will be a part of the main story

I love this mini speculation/prediction about the second movie. Who knows maybe in the end they will tease Metal Sonic and in the third movie they will introduce Amy and in the end of that movie they can tease Shadow. There are so many paths they can take this franchise but the most important of all for me is to take it slow. Dont rush things and built your story and your characters to make them justice. I love the Sonic cast and the movies are the best way to make them great again.

I think it's a bit too soon for Knuckles. I would have preferred the movie be about Sonic and Tails mainly and then go to Knuckles in a third movie.
But I think it could work if Knuckles is not Sonic's friend by the end of this and they save that for a third film instead. Like they're enemies at first and then by the end of the movie they aren't enemies but Knuckles isn't ready to accept Sonic and Tails as friends. I think that might work.
But who knows maybe the film could work having both Tails and Knuckles become friends.

Yeah, I‘m also kind of hoping that they’re saving his redemption for a third film and mainly use him as an antagonist here, but still show he‘s a good but misguided person at heart.

„Redemption arc“ doesn’t mean he has to be actually evil. I‘m thinking something like Zuko from Avatar. He was always portrayed as a good kid, just angry and obsessed with meeting an impossible standard of honor. His redemption arc was mostly him shedding his misguided beliefs which in turn lead to him stopping his aggression towards the protagonists, not the other way around. Of course, this would only work if they have Knuckles as a part of his tribe. If he’s all alone and only getting tricked by Eggman like he was in Sonic 3, he’s probably not going to need a redemption arc, but he may need some time to get to know the real Sonic.
I disagree, I think introducing knuckles and having his arc here is a fine idea, they just gotta do it right, which they have proven they can, even on a tight budget,
I really hope knuckles isn't portrayed as an idiot in the sequel because knuckles isn't dumb but overall I'm looking forward to the sequel and I hope they choose Dwayne Johnson to be knuckles because I think he'll do a great knuckles

This might be a bit of a hot take, but: Please not Dan Green. As someone who didn’t grow up with him as Knuckles, nothing he says as this character sounds like you can take it seriously. He literally made an attempted suicide sound goofy in S&TBK, unless they’re going for full comedy I don’t see the point in casting him for this role. He‘s a very talented guy, but he never felt like the right choice for this particular character to me.
I think The Rock could do a decent job when it comes to combining incarnations, but I‘d have to wait until I see it in action. I personally would prefer a new VA that’s closer to Knuckles‘ Japanese voice since the voice in the Sonic X dub I grew up with was pretty close to the Japanese version, but I understand that most people grew up with Dan Green Knuckles and would like to hear him again. We‘ll have to see what they‘ll do.

Only thing I can say is while I want Knuckles to be better represented, I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with him having some bumbling elements to him. Sonic characters don't need to be all business all of the time, they should be allowed to have some comedic traits.
There are better comedic elements to bring to this character than just making him bumbling though. For example, I could see Knuckles just plain not understanding things like jokes and idioms because he takes everything he‘s told at face value. That would have comedic potential, but it would also enhance his personality and add an extra layer to his character: He’s not just gullible when the plot requires him to be tricked by Eggman, he just generally has trouble telling what people really mean when they are talking to him and there are several situations, both comedic and plot-relevant, where this comes up.
@@rainpooper7088 I agree. I just often feel like people are so against their favorite character having any flaws whatsoever, and they have to be presented as 100% positive all of the time. I didn't mind Knuckles making mistakes every now and then, I just think they overplayed it without ever giving him a point of redeeming himself. A character needs some kind of deficiency to keep them three-dimensional.

Yeah, the playing field was pretty uneven, especially when comparing him to Sonic and his main character plot armor. After the SA games, Sonic just got increasingly perfect with no one being allowed to challenge his coolness or catch him off-guard, which led to characters like Knuckles, Eggman and Amy who rely on getting different reactions out of Sonic being unable to function properly and just wound up having their flaws exaggerated for comedy without ever being able to punch back.
But Movie Sonic isn’t like this, he has flaws, he has an emotional range and he isn’t the most experienced world saver. The writers aren’t obsessed with just making him „the coolest, other characters and good storytelling be damned“. This is what gives me hope.

I agree with most of this. But there some things that should not happen. Knuckles being a lone wolf should not happen. Maybe Knuckles should be on his own in the first parts he appears in the film, but later Knuckles should hang out with Tails, Sonic and Tom. He should even stay at Tom's house with Sonic or he should move into someone else's house in Green Hill, someone who is not a stupid and goofy idiot that will annoy Knuckles that is. Knuckles guarding the Master Emerald from birth to death and all the other lone wolf stuff is just stupid. It's two of many things that has been ruining his character since 2010.
It was stupid to bring up what kids that are alone will think. There are so many movies released since 1980s that can be used as an example, so the Sonic Movie Sequel is not special. And as for movie Sonic being accurate or the Movie doing Sonic justice, that's just nonsense.
The movie does NOT describe Sonic correct. It does only to those who are fans of the stupid and retarded version of Sonic. Meaning, movie Sonic's character is only correct to the stupid, childish and immature Sonic fans. Not to the fans who like the 1998-2008 Sonic games and media. The ones that have less comedy, no goofy content, more action and serious, competent, grown up and mature characters. One I was excited to see the Sonic Movie, as it was annouced in 2013, meaning I've waited 7 Years to see a Movie based on One Of My Favorite Video Game Franchises of All Time. Unfortnatley it became the Most Disappointing Movie I ever saw. And Two, what made Sonic So Special is a lot of reasons, but to me, I'd Say it's the Characters and Sense of Scope I.E the Level Design and World made Sonic a lot more realistic than his Longtime Rival Mario. The Movie, was just a Buddy Comedy, and only used Sonic as just an excuse to have a Big Name Actor to be the Main Character. And Sonic is pushed to the side. Personally I don't see what the whole big deal Why Everyone Loves The First Sonic Movie. Yeah it was cool... If it was release in the 90s! But the Sonic The Hedgehog Movie was released in 2020, Sonic has since been involved to have it's own continiunity and lore. Yeah sure The Archie Comics had it's Lore and Boom Originally had it's Own Lore. But The Archie Comics had to intergrade the game's lore and Boom had to try to balance out the Characters and their Personalities without changing them outright.
