I think you forgot to mention that the 5-string version of the GB Modern has an extended 35" scale length. I own it, and it took me a while to get used to the bigger stretches compared to the standard 34". It results in higher string tension, which is really important for clarity on the low B string!
Yes! The 35" scale length and the 19mm string spacing make the 5 string feel quite big, imho. While at the same time being really lightweight. I really liked mine.
Cort is one of those brands that I know have existed for the past 30 years but have never seen in a shop (new or used) and have never seen someone play them live. I don't even know how basses are marketed these days. But as an example back in around 1991 or so I started seeing ads for Zon Sonus basses in BP magazine & that's how I became aware of the brand & model which then led me to buying two of them. But if you are a young bassist today I don't know how someone (without this particular video) would stumble upon Cort and decide to buy one.
To be fair, I think most of Cort's business is being an OEM manufacturer for a lot of brands cheaper overseas lines. Though I agree, they don't get nearly as much attention for how good their instruments are at these price points.
Its always nice to see new 24 fret jazz bass options. These have a nice slanted neck bolt area (unlike my Fender 24 fret jazz). The placement of the knob below and between the pickups wouldnt work for me unfortunately.
I am looking for a modern jazz in the UK for about £500 -£600. There are so many options and so little music shops now days. I have no idea which one to get... Help please
I agree, give sire a try, you get a huge bang for your buck, with a nice big preamp, they say it’s to complicated, but it’s really simple, it’s just a 3 band eq with a mid frequency and passive tone, also you get passive/ active switch and obviously a blend, very nice preamp and you can get a roasted neck. Go for Sire 🤘😎
Sire would be a good choice, the new Squier Anniversary models are also nice and a little under our budget. You may be able to find a second hand Fender Player as well. Also have a look at Markbass Gloxy basses, very cool, great sounding instruments made to high specs in the far East but q/c’d by Markbass.
I 💗 the Modern 5. The Nordstrand pick ups have the tone I've been searching for. However, it's about twice the price of an Ibanez. Not that affordable for me.
These basses are great value; top quality hardware but Indonesian made. Lots to like. I have several basses at this price point: Charvels, Reverends, Spector, Balaguer...all offer higher quality hardware but with construction outside of the U.S. So I would fall into Cort's target market here. The problem for me is that these Corts all look so ordinary. I like bright colours and brown, grey, black and white just don't get the Gas going. Shallow I may be but gorgeous basses inspire me to pick them up and play. These don't.
6 years ago i would agree with you man but inflation is the reality we are living in. I already have two hardshell cases and I would only take 1 or two bases out of the house at any time anyway. Personally i would rather just have the bass and buy my own case seperate.
@BassRacerx I know, but all the basses I bought in the past came with a hard case and the brand name on it. I paid $1,100 for my Ibanez SDGR that came with the Ibanez hard case and bought a Warwick going on four years ago for $2,900 that came with a non Warwick gig bag. Like cmon man. I'm just picky maybe, but also I love the smell when opening up a hard case, ever since I was a kid with my dad's guitars.
Yeap! I’ve been saying this! Especially with a company like Dingwall for example, a lot still do like fender and musicman and Warwick, well now with musicman you get that lame mono case I like mono cases and own one but we want that hard musicman case so they all match when you line them all up in your room lol
@@TheBassChannel It was kinda just a joke. You might find someone that can pull a rancid song. Maybe a madness or specials song if they were into ska younger... but for some reason... I've noticed that no one knows an op ivy song. It's just a little weird. So if you can find someone that actually knows "artificual life".... that would be super badass. I'd like to jam with them. I'm listening though anyways. Glad I found ya.
The modern ones look great but those clear pickguards are gross. I understand why they're there (to guard against picks, of course) but they kill the look. The burled tops are super sweet and deserve to be nekkid!
Shame about the pickguard on the GB. Why go to all the trouble of putting on a burl top and doing a tight neck pickup route just to slap an ugly piece of plastic on it.
I feel you, I got a sandberg jazz bass wich I am really happy with, but for my 5 string I wanted something that sounded different, if not "weird" ahah, which is why I went with an Ibanez instead of the gb5. I'll consider the spectors when I have the income 😅
Have had my gb74 since 07, still my go to 4 string
The GB modern sounds like a monster! Very interested in the Cort A4 Ultra and Cort Rithimic as well.
Wow that 5st sounds great, esp the B string.

Cort needs a better distribution network! They'd sell boat loads of these if people could actually see them in person.
Love the Dwight Yocom sample
Could barely hear you on the John Mayer track, it's like Lars Ulrick had mastered that recording ;-) :p
VERY NICE VIDEO

Try Sire. Andertons generally have several in stock

the cort one now costs 500 GBP in thomann, that's a great price

Os baixos cort são foda top
So, which of these tools? Who can advise?
check out the omnific. 2 bass players 1 drummer. interesting.
Love the look of those GB modern ones but I don't really like the sound, sounds like the neck pickup is too close to the neck, same for the elrick
The pick guard can be removed.
bro, is the 5 string 35inches? or 34inches?
Anytime you spend $1,000 or more on a bass or guitar, it should come with a hard case.

@@stephenrodriguez7181 When you realize that a case is not a freebie and included in the cost of the bass it's easier to accept if it's missing.
god i wish that were still….. THE CASE

Still waiting for an operation ivy song.
You know what? I don't know if any of our players knows any Op Ivy! Must look into that.

No Way, that's premium price. MTD4LYFE

Nekkid Rules!!! I agree.
MTD KINGSTON BASSES AARE MY TOP PICK HANDS DOWN
$1600.00 is affordable?
Compared to an Alembic sure is. Compared to a Harley Benton, not so much...
Midrange pricing. Similar build standard to Mexican Fenders but with hardware and certain features similar to U.S. Fenders
maybe it depends on your income. But in my opinion more than 1000,- isn't midprice anymore@@williamallfrey577
That's the mid-range today. It's sad, I agree with you. I got a bass from one of the lower ESP products and it's about 1400 USD.
I want someone to turn my knobs
😂😂😂😂 have you subscribed to be a member yet?! 😉
that markbass preamp is really overated. they just not good enough. i have Cort C5 and B5 with that preamp and ended up changing it.
Shame about the pickguard on the GB. Why go to all the trouble of putting on a burl top and doing a tight neck pickup route just to slap an ugly piece of plastic on it.
Is anyone else kinda bored with jazz basses?
One with block inlays and color matched headstocks? No
Hell no. Jazz bass forever. ❤
I’m not a Jazz bass fan. They sound thin and lack warmth to me.

I wish they made more jbasses with different pickup placements. Like the warwicks and thumbs, more together or closer to the bridge
So, which of these tools? Who can advise?
