These are the stories I like to hear and read about. Inspirational examples. If only our young people had an influence in their lives like you and your Dad. Wise men both. Thank you. Made my day....!
Steve - love hearing your background, I've been binge watching your videos. You've fought for every inch you've gained in life and you're still out there fighting. It's very inspirational, there's no quick trick for success, it's what you do everyday that makes the difference. Keep them videos coming guy!
Steve, Once again, you set the bar high. Hard work and perseverance. Your contribution to the trade skills of the young guys is undeniable, but I think your example of how to be a good worker and a good businessman in this trade is even more important. The only way to escape wage slavery is to be in business for yourself and you set a great example. Thanks for all you do.
Great story. A lot of modern parents could learn a lesson from your dad. I was out and married by 17, living a grown up life. Bought our first house, also a fixer upper when we were still in our early 20's. My daughter rents it from us now. BTW STILL married to the same guy. It is possible. People just got to get off their butts.
i know its a old vid but you have done well. i dd the same here in the UK i left school with nothing ( i couldn't hardly read or write hence my grammar} apart from one thing and that was to work hard and get what i want, and i did exactly that. i paid my mortgage off at 22 went to collage to do my plumbing and gas and been self employed ever since and love it. my dad used to say if you cant afford t dont buy it, iv taught my own kids the same and they are all so doing well. im 53 now and never looked back Steve you are a top man well done you Steve UK
i love your videos. makes since because im 20 and am now doing what you did with a house. it is 125 year old haha. i just finished all of the dwv plumbing today it was a hell of a job. ive done alot else to thehouse. my major projects still are rock foundation and siding and gutter. your very inspiring
What if the people are drunk gate keepers that wont let you progress unless you fit their low iq loser mold that's 100% different from a time when a 17 year old could buy a house. This asshole worked without restrictions, to put all the restrictions in place
Very good advice and a great success story--stay in school-get a good education and continue with your education even when your older--with the trades were forced to continue our education--which is awesome!
Good for you Steve I was brought up with the same principles as you have my own house as well and doing just fine defo hard work pays off hats off to you for achieving it at such a young age 👍👍👌
great story and you should be proud very proud I am amazed at your knowledge ... You are og old school skilled tech. I am 70 yrs old love to watch your videos.... Your cooking skills well maybe not..... just saying , sorry Steve, good enough for this neighborhood though right , be well , be safe and keep posting videos love them and at 70 I need them so interesting. Thank You for making my last days nice ! Be well Steve
Steve, this is your oldest sister Lucy in Louisians. Just watched coffee chat on how you bought a house at 17yr old. I was down here so I did not know your great accomplishment. Scott gave me the web site you I could get some family history. Proud of you little brother.
Exactly my dad was the same way, when I 7 my dad had me washing parts for him in the field with his company, I bought my first house at 21 and my second at 28 and now kids are hand feed everything and feel entitled to everything, you always have great video Steve!
It does seem something along the way got lost in the way of work ethic and millenials it seems have a sense of entitlement and are I hate to say it lazy I'm the same age as steve and no I don't have 24 thousand saved but I own a home raised a family and i do what i want when i want and don't care. About whether i have money when i die to pass on to my kids they all have my work ethic and are well on their way to making something of themselves never ask me for anything well I can't say that one of the middle ones is a dummass and ended up in trouble and is doing his time for it now but he will be ok hopefully and it will fall together
Steven thanks for sharing. Your father sounds awesome. It's great to here stories like yours. I love your videos. I'm 35 and have always loved skilled trades but have nevercstuck to any one to journey out. I have a bachelor's degree that I feel is worthless and debating becoming a plumber. Thank you for sharing your wisdom. My dad taught me a lot growing up when he was around.
Steve, your an inspiration my friend. I am 57 and I have my own jetting business in Canada. I can relate to everything your saying becuz we are very similar thinking and work ethic. Have a great day and keep your videos coming
Great story. , when I was young I asked my father if I could have a bike. He bought me a lawn-mower. I cut grass for a month & finally got my bike. I've been working ever since. I learned a great work ethic from my father.
Your absolutely right. He was very fortunate to have a stable father is his life meeting all his basic living needs so he could focus in his future and not just surviving everyday.
Well Steve you answered some questions first the work you did putting your new unit in The carpentry was great and so you answered that question how you learned that. You have proved hard work pays off great job Steve
Great Story Steve! My dad was frugal & wealthy and yet he never wanted to give it out. He taught me to be a hard worker and be independent. You did well, congrats on your success in life, business and now TH-cam!!
Great story Steve, Your Dad was a good man with much wisdom, I see you loved your dad a lot. May you have many years of success. You really have a great business, and do top quality work. Enjoy all your videos, can't wait when you post new ones, so I watch your reruns, always enjoy them. Tony
living without going into debt no matter what means you have to take to do so is the best. you dun did good steven! your dad instilled a damn good ethic in ya!
Great chat Steve. I try and teach my kids the same thing. I bought and flipped my first house at 19 and bought my own house at 20. My oldest just bought her house at 19 with her boyfriend.
Thanks for sharing some of your life history with us Steve, Good story man. I have adult children myself and I've tried to follow the same philosophy with them too...Help them out but don't hand them things on a silver platter...
Congrats Steve. You're a real working man. Great accomplishment at such a very young age. I bet your parents were very proud of you. God Bless Steve. May our Lord keep on blessing you with beautiful things. Hey Steve I have a question for you. Is your little fur baby ok looking out the window? It always scares me when I see them by the window like that. She's a sweetie. Give her a little squeeze for me. Love watching her in your videos. Take care. See you all soon. Good night.
At age 30 I did the same thing bought a abandoned dump and made it home, 8 years later still some things to do but it's home. As a side note I got mine for 10k in 2012. You are a good man Steve you have good common sense God bless.
I fully agree with your statements. I was taught to live life by the same principles. I don't own my own business (yet😉). I am an employee. But being financially independent and debt free through hard work and by living within your means opens up unbelievable horizons.
There is no substitute for hard work, discipline, dedication and living within your means. I believe these days of consumption and keeping up with the Jones' are contrary to the mind set we held so dear years ago. Our parents and grandparents brought us into this world with the hopes of perpetuating those core values. Your story sounds a lot like mine. I was raised with very little means of support and through determination I pulled through and now stand in a place that is easily sustainable and comfortable. My family is very frugal and understands the importance of finances and responsibility. Like you said, if you put your mind to it, you can always get what you need. I am 54 years old now and I look back with satisfaction for choosing the path I did. Another excellent coffee chat Steve, thank you.
I agree with your story about working hard..I signed up with the USMC at 17...You have to work hard at what ever you choose in life..Your a one of a kind person...and your father....good day Steve...
Steve, you are a great mentor and role model for young people in the trades. Keep up the wood work! Do you have any apprentices? Perhaps you could add one or two and teach them your skills. But this channel is like a nationwide apprenticeship in many ways.
That was an Inspirational story! I worked jobs and spent a lot of my weekends at a sprint car track with my stepdad on the weekends in my early teens and without that I think I wouldn't have turned out as well as I did. We all need someone to guide us otherwise we might get lost. 😎
Great story Steve! I learn a lot from your videos and appreciate the work you put into them... My wife enjoys the cooking ones! 😊 I noticed that your name is French, here in Canada it would be spelled "Lavimonière"... Maybe you could do a coffee chat on how your family arrived in Massachusetts... I notice a lot of french names in the New England states! Thanks again from Ottawa, Ontario.
Being the same age and worked in the restaurant industry we're both familiar with the pay in a kitchen back in the early 80s, I also went from one oil to the other and I've never looked back or regretted getting into oil heat
Nice one Steve, no one can come knocking on your door asking for it back, you beat me by four years I was 21 and bought a place on the isle of wight in 1987 for £29k. My dad was the same!
You are an amazing guy. Like you, I accomplished my goals and never concerned myself about getting my hands dirty. By age, I don't have the stamina any more, but my mind wants to work. You've done well. This should be taught in school, instead of educating about entitlements.
We have a remarkably similar background. I started as a construction laborer as a kid after school and weekends. I learned the carpenter trade and made my living swinging a hammer. I saved and saved like mad. I got married and bought a two family home at age 25. Since then I have bought, fixed up, and sold several houses for a decent profit. If you're in the trades, any trade, your skills are in demand. There is a ton of work out there if you're hard working and have a good reputation. I'm in my 50s now and semi retired. I just take a few jobs here and there just to keep busy. No mortgage, no car payments, no credit card or other debt I would recommend the trades to every kid out there.
Good video steven! Some people spend all the money they have, sometimes take an extra loan, look at me, at everything i have you know. But at the end of the day they envy those who saved some money...
Very inspiring story. that's why your called the real working man. Now I see why the house means so much to you. I would never leave it either.
This country would be in much better shape if everyone were like you.
Good story, Thanks

You forgot one thing in this video -- what about a yearbook picture of young Steve Lav??! haha Agree with your philosophy 100%.

You sir are an American success story! Videos like this should be shown in schools.

Nice video! I know people that are 50 years old and don't have 24 grand saved.
You are an amazing guy. Like you, I accomplished my goals and never concerned myself about getting my hands dirty. By age, I don't have the stamina any more, but my mind wants to work. You've done well. This should be taught in school, instead of educating about entitlements.
You had a good father - a positive role model. We both had an advantage over the millenniums today.
We have a remarkably similar background. I started as a construction laborer as a kid after school and weekends. I learned the carpenter trade and made my living swinging a hammer.
