Just one group change. Avi (the bearded fellow in Hallelujah) left for family/personal reasons. He was replaced by Matt (the fellow in the white jacket). Matt and Scott (the first fellow that sang) switch off between baritone and bass whenever necessary. Both have awesome ranges. Mitch (the tenor) has been known to do the occasional A2 but his A5 will drop your jaw. Kirstin (the lovely lady) has been on Broadway and has a beatiful alto, as well as a wonderful high range. Kevin (the beatboxer) is also a high tenor on the rare occasions when he sings. Their covers of Bohemian Rhapsody, John Lennon's "Image", and Amazing Grace will blow you away.
Scott, Mitch and Kristin were in high school together. Mitch is a little younger but same choir class. Can you imagine being the music teacher with those 3 together in your class? 😁
Avi Kaplan, after he left in 2017 (Matt replaced him...that was the only change in the group) has put out a lot of great solo stuff. I'd highly recommend having a listen.
Born in California and Otherside are AMAZING Avi Kaplan solo songs. Also he was in a band briefly called Avriel and The Sequoias. They did a cover of Hey Ya! from Outkast, which...I can't even explain. It's bluegrass. It's amazing.

🧡 PTX. A new generation propelling the classics forward. And they blew it up. Bravo! I agree with you on the lyrics. It took Pentatonix to deliver the message that I'd never really considered before.
Most of them have done solo projects. Mitch and Scott are also known as Superfruit and released 2 EP's with vidoes for every song. Kirstie released an EP with 4 videos. Kevin has done several You Tube videos. They are amazingly talented I've heard them live 5 times now. It boggles my mind every time. Every concert for the encore, they do one of their slower songs with no microphones....asking everyone for silence.......and they sound EXACTLY like the recordings.
Matt is the NEW bass. You saw Avi in "Hallelujah". Avi left the group (on good terms) in 2017, I believe. Matt, the black guy in the white jacket took over the bass. However, he has an absolutely beautiful baritone, also. Kevin (the beatboxer) is a genius. He also plays the cello...and has a beautiful tenor voice. I've been a Pentaholic since early 2012. Heard their "Somebody That I Used To Know"...and was hooked for life!
a song that REALLY showcases Matt (guy in white coat :)) is "You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch" so check that one out...Matt is the only one who is "new" he replaced Avi (beard guy from your first video from them)..i am also recently new to these guys and everytime i hear something from them i get GOOSEBUMPS all over my body...please react to "Imagine" and "Bohemian Rhapsody" by them...they are just sooooooo amazing!!! great reaction!! Stay safe and healthy
' Sing ' is a great song for sheer upbeat exhuberance. It was filmed with footage they asked their fans to send in. There are several cameo appearances, including Maisie Williams. ' Come Along ' is also a lot of fun. And ' Run to You ' is an original I think you might really appreciate.
They didn’t win a Grammy for Aha! The three Grammys were for “Daft Punk” (for arrangement); “ Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” (for arrangement); and a collaboration between Pentatonix and Dolly Parton of her classic song, “Jolene” (for performance)...
All members of this group do have their own solo & joint projects. Kirstie was in a Broadway production of Kinky Boots & recently released a solo album. Scott & Mitch have a joint group called Superfruit & have recorded albums & videos together. Scott also started a kids a capella group called AcaPop. You'd enjoy some of their videos on TH-cam - they're amazing! And Kevin has also worked with the AcaPop beatboxers with Scott & has his own TH-cam channel of solo projects. Avi (original bass) also works with kids and school a capella groups & has a huge solo career. Most of them have done collaborations with other artists. Check out the cover of Katy Perry's "Rise!" by Scott & Mitch & 3 other amazing artists. It's awesome. Their 3rd Grammy Award was a project with Dolly Parton singing "Jolene". So they all do amazing side projects. I think it's why they're able to stay together so long - they allow for each other's creativity & other interests! Pentatonix is always primary, though. It's the strong supporting base of everything else they do. 🤗
Bohemian Rhapsody, Imagine, Daft Punk, Amazing Grace, the list goes on and on lol, And if you really want to hear Mitch soar check out Aha!, Singapore the Star Vista, it's live and Mitch will blow you away with his vocals.
I haven't found a Pentatonix song I dislike, but lately I have fallen in love with their "Come Along" Cover. You can tell they are absolutely enjoying this and having a blast, and watching Mitch sing this MAKES MY DAY!!!! It's not Christmas, but their rendition of "Oh Come All Ye Faithful" HAS to be experienced. If you can sit still through it, then you're paralyzed. I liked Avi and was in awe of his voice, but Matt brings a "lightness," an energy and a sense of humor. His voice is smooth as silk and warm as honey. Avi was great. I don't know if Matt can go as deep, but I don't care. He brings an energy to the group that I haven't seen before with them. I love Matt.
Pentatonix is a Amazing group! They are my number one group! When they sing Religious songs it makes me feel praise the Lord! The Christmas songs are wonderful, I just love this group. Praise the Lord for bringing them together!
Part of why they are so amazing together, is because 3 of the 5 have been singing together since high school. Their story of success is amazing. Talk about working hard, loyalty, and making your dreams come true. They are the best. I hope they always come back to each other. 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
I love the songs that blow you away, but the Pentatonix songs at the top of my playlist are ones like, cheerleader, royals, and sing. : ) I like the bouncy, dance ones.
Not just because he's my favorite, but Scott's solo in this reaches into my soul every time. Fun fact, I also met his dad by accident at their concert in Hershey, PA.
I agree. I actually said that just the other day. Each one of them could so easily be singing stars on their own, but they are such a great team and have their egos in the right place and work so well together, that we Pentaholix people, reap the enormous benefits. They are all I listen to these days. They bring me such joy and musical fulfillment. I don’t know what I’d do without them!
Great reaction. I find the more someone knows about music, the more they appreciate Pentatonix. They way they transition between vocalists is amazing. I appreciate the love you gave Matt (base) and Kevin ( beatboxer).
You mentioned you would like to see live performances. There are. A. Lot! But there are a few that are incredible are AHA Singapore Star Vista Live, and there is a live tv version of Hallelujah and (after you watch the official video of Daft Punk - their first of 3 Grammy winners - of course) there is a Private Performance in their dressing room. The Star Vista and the Private Performance are fan cams. Only one member change. Avi (phenomenal opera trained bass) left in 2017 and help find his replacement Matt (in The white jacket). Scott (tall blonde - Baritone) has a huge range and when the bass singer is performing lyrics he takes over the bass part and can still get up there in the tenor range I believe he has a several octave range. Edit: To be clear all their performances are incredible!
A great one to watch too, is The Wizard of Ahhhs! It is so fun. It is written and produced by Toddrick Hall, an old H.S. classmate of Mitch, Kristie & Scott. He arranged the 'mashup' songs for the story line. Kirstie plays Dorothy, wicked witch and Glenda the good witch. Another one that is interesting and you will appreciate the beatboxing tremendously, New Rules/Are You That Somebody! Thanks for reacting!
So happy to se you doing more Pentatonix! Imagine is similar to Hallelujah in the way they've arranged the song, except of course, Matt has replaced Avi as bass (the only change in the group since its inception). Would love to see you do something that shows their versatility, like "Daft Punk" medley, "Bohemian Rhapsody" or "Can't Hold Us." You're just scratching the surface of what those five voices can do!
Again you were correct: On the left this time we have Matt, the bass who joined after Avi left the band to spend more time with family. And your eyebrow reaction was priceless when you discovered that the "baritone" who was singing suddenly hit bass, and then hit what surely seems like controbasso. Thanks again for the reaction -- always a joy watching people get hit with PTX.
One of my favorite live performances of theirs is their final performance on the Sing Off. They sang a Florence and the Machine song. Mind blowingly good
Only one member stepped down, actually. Avi (dude with the beard wearing the beanie from Hallelujah) stepped down in 2017 due to a combination of the touring schedule taking its toll on his mental health and his mother being seriously ill. It was all totally amicable, and Avi even helped the group find the new bass to replace him. Dude's name is Matt. The other four (from left to right: Kirstie, Scott, Mitch and Kevin) are still the originals. The middle three (Kirstie, Scott and Mitch) are actually old friends who have been singing together since they were kids. And interestingly enough, they do all do separate projects. Scott and Mitch have their duo Superfruit, and Kirstie and Kevin (aka "K.O.") have their own solo stuff. Avi went solo after leaving the group, and has some gorgeous music on his own. Check out "Change on the Rise", it's some powerful stuff.
The only change in the group was Avi leaving and Matt coming in as the new Bass... “The Trio” Scott, Kirstie, and Mitch sang together since their school years. After they graduated high school they wanted to enter a show called The Sing Off where they added Avi and Kevin to fill out their sound... then they won the show and the rest is history!
They all have solo work online. Scott and Mitch have a side group called Superfruit. They have some great, sometimes playful works. Since you are a rock guy you should check out Bohemian Rhapsody.
@@MetalGuyReacts kirstin the only female in the group was on Broadway doing the show kinky boots but also kirstin Scott and mitch was on an episode of bones a crime/murder drama show
Superfruit's "Fantasy" is a favorite of mine, because they featured Amber Liu, who is a member of a kpop group that I liked (f(x)), so that was a double win for me.
What is beautiful about this group is you can watch their videos in any order. They are all that amazing. As someone mentioned, only one member change - the bass singer. Both fabulous in their own right. Hope you react to more PTX.
They came out blowing away people from the start. During competition on "Sing Off". Their "Born to Be Wild" and "Video Killed the Radio Star" were amazing.
This performance is epic. Can"t find a better word for it. I love Avi, but i think i love Matt more. They both have a warm sound, but Matt brings some cheekiness, better seen in Havana, Come along or New rules x Are you that somebody.
Kevin is the beat boxer He is a very accomplished cellist he also plays the saxophone graduated graduated from Yale University and he can speak Mandarin.
Nice reaction! If you want to kinda blow your mind & see the range of what Pentatonix can do then listen to these 3 songs by them in a row... 1) Bohemian Rapsody 2) Amazing Grace 3) Can't Hold Us There's so many great ones by them but these 3 show how ridiculously amazing they are!
You should absolutely listen to their live performance of a song called "Aha" (originally by an extremely underrated artist by the name of Imogen Heap) at the Star-Vista in Singapore... That video gives me goosebumps every single time I watch it...
Great reaction, I enjoyed watching. I just subscribed, I'm ready for more Pentatonix. 😊 The only member that changed is Avi (guy with the beanie in Hallelujah). He was replaced in 2017 by Matt (guy with the white jacket from the video). Kirstin and Mitch just change their looks a lot.
Avi left the group in 2017 due to their heavy schedule and his own person family issues. His sister was also their Road Manager and they were flying home after almost every concert. The original three found Avi from a friend of a friend and support each other. Avi did recruit the new bass Matt before he stepped away. He knew Matt would fit in with the group both vocally and chemistry. White jacket is Matt the low base. The Pentatonic scale is five meaning each member can sing multiple levels and scales. Scott changed the C to X for effect.
Actually Kevin (beatboxer) actually sings a part in Mary Did You Know by PTX but instead of Matt (the guy in the white jacket) its Avi the guy with the beanie, who does the low parts in Hallelujah
If you want to see the Beatboxer (Kevin) sing, "Mary Did You Know" is a good one. If you want to see the first video that got them a Grammy check out "Daft Punk Medley". 100% worth it. I believe the whole video cost around $400 to make if I remember correctly
Also make sure you check out SUPERFRUIT !! :) Its just mitch and Scott from this group and they make a TON of fun content separately with or without others all the time. Its glorious and amazing to see even more about their insane talent
Sound of Silence was written in November of 1963. It was after the assassination of John F. Kennedy. So the song was written about the angst and future of the country and the world. It was on their first album released in 1964. There is a clip on you tube where they first did it on live television in about February 1964, on "Top of the Pops" in England
Great reaction. The only line-up change has been the Bass position. Avi was the original Bass, but left in 2017. Matt, the guy on the left, took his place. Kevin, the Beat Boxer, on the right is an original member. The three singers in the middle, Kirstie, Scott, and Mitch grew up together in Texas. They are called the "trio". Thanks for your enjoyable reactions.
I grew up listening to the original by Simon and Garfunkel and always loved it. I heard the version by Disturbed about a year ago and was very impressed by it. Then I heard Pentatonix. I love them anyway and this just blew me into the stratosphere! ALL of the Pentatonix members are just killer! Keep reacting, I like your comments and ideas, well done.
Another phenomenal group to listen to with the headphones (hold the phones close to your ears) is BYU Vocal Point, Nearer My God to Thee! Also A cappella. Talking about goose bumps!!! I watch it once & then I listen again with my eyes closed & listen to every part... Amazing!!!
Matt Sallee (the black guy in the white shirt) is the only non original member of the group, he replaced Avi Kaplan, the guy with the beard and beanie in your previous video, as the group bass singer after Avi got worn out by the group super fast paced touring lifestyle and wanted to spend more time at home with his family, this happened in 2017 and Matt has been with group ever since and done a fantastic job. All the other four members have been there since the start, though Kirstin, the only woman, and Mitch, the shorter man with the angelic voice, change their looks so much in every video that they seem like different people every time but they're not
People say that about Mitch and Kirstie but its not really true. Their look change was no more prevalent than any other person in their 20s and made sense as a progression. The problem is that people go from a 2018 video to a 2012 video to a 2020 video and expect people to look the same. For those of us that watched the sing Off live and have kept up with them ever since, the only shocking thing is people that watch 3 of their thousands of videos and then pronounce that they change their look a lot.
Thanks for an enjoyable reaction! I think you are correct that they all are solid talents that can hold their own, but the mix of them together is definitely more than the sum of the parts! There are some good suggestions already, but I think it would be great for you to see one of their other special talents - putting songs together nobody would have thought of :-) "New Rules x Are You That Somebody" was the first one after Matt replaced Avi that really floored me - soo good! Then, of course, you might want to check out how well they cover a whole bunch of songs by the same artist and choose one of their "Evolution" videos ;-) Thanks again!
The beatboxer is Kevin and he is truly amazing. If you want to see him go off the rails, check out Bohemian Rhapsody, Daft Punk, and one of their originals Love Again. And yes, any one of them could go off on their own and be spectacular. They each takes turns leading in different songs. The only different member is Matt, the new Bass, the guy in the white jacket. He replaced Avi.
Mitch does a great solo in Gold. Mitch also killed it in Bohemian Rhapsody. Matt in Mr. Grinch. There rap in Can't Hold Us shows a different side and there versatile talent. Amazing Grace was awesome and I know its Christmas but Mary did you Know was just great. Radioactive with Lindsey Stirling was great also. Just so many
Two little solos. At the very beginning, before the camera comes inside the cave and focuses on them, the first voice you hear is Kevin's. The high melody on "oo-oo-oo-oo"? That's Kevin.
I love that you did this video!! They are an AMAZING GROUP! I didn’t realize how much it would affect me. I work on a covid floor in a hospital and we lost someone today and this song was exactly what I needed! I’m so glad I found you and this song today!!!
Just found you and let me just say thank you. I have always loved many types of music and my younger son is a jazz musician but listens to everything but my older son says if it's not metal it's not for him. I made him watch your reaction to hallelujah. Hoping that it will show him that even metal heads can appreciate other music.
They just released a new album of all originals. There are a couple of videos on their TH-cam from the new album. Coffee in Bed is a Matt and Kevin master class in bass and beatboxing. You can really hear what Matt can do with a bass line on that and several from the new album.

Pentatonx cover of Robyn's 'Dancing On My Own' - Kevin playing Cello while beatboxing - absolutely amazing
a song that REALLY showcases Matt (guy in white coat :)) is "You're a mean one, Mr.
Check out their Grammy performances. Daft Punk, Aha at Singapore, and Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. Mind blowing
Gold, Mary Did You Know, Oh Come All Ye Faithful.... in addition to what's already been mentioned
I like how you address each individual separately.
Matt doing The Grinch theme gives him the spotlight!
Kevin (beatboxer) and Matt (bass in white jacket) absolutely SLAY I the just-released Coffee in Bed!!
Pentatonix is one of those instances where everything came together perfectly for them to be a group.
Kirstie Scott and Mitch went to school together there is a video of them at a high school concert singing telephone. You should check it out!!!
Mitch is always effortless. You'll be amazed by their live performance of Aha!
A favorite for me is "Mad World".
Their new album of originals is great.
"Happy Now" and "The Lucky Ones", the title track. All are awesome.
Welcome to the PTX Rabbit hole. A must review is Mary Did You Know for shear beauty and Amazing Grace (Seat belt required for Kirsty's final)
Mind blowingly good
Yes, yes, yes! Dog Days live on the Sing-off! Look it up on TH-cam, @metalguyreacts
I watch Defying Gravity and the frozen medley when I need to cheer up. And Rise steals my breath and makes me cry. So good.
Thanks for the recommendation Debbie! I'm so stoked to check out Bohemian Rhapsody. I've got that scheduled to react to in just a couple days 🤘
Would love to see you react to Pentatonix cover of can you feel the love tonight.
All such powerful voices. Still hard to believe there are only five voices with all that power and volume.
Kevin is the beat boxer
He is a very accomplished cellist he also plays the saxophone graduated graduated from Yale University and he can speak Mandarin.
Nice reaction! If you want to kinda blow your mind & see the range of what Pentatonix can do then listen to these 3 songs by them in a row...
1) Bohemian Rapsody
2) Amazing Grace
3) Can't Hold Us
There's so many great ones by them but these 3 show how ridiculously amazing they are!
Thanks Rob! I'll have to check these out. I should have a Bohemian Rhapsody reaction coming out in a few days 🤘
Love Again is a PTX original that I think you are going to really love.
You should absolutely listen to their live performance of a song called "Aha" (originally by an extremely underrated artist by the name of Imogen Heap) at the Star-Vista in Singapore... That video gives me goosebumps every single time I watch it...
What a great reaction! So happy to see more and more people appreciating this group’s talent.
They support and complement each other they are all strong take turns with each other incredible
Great reaction🤩
You might like Amazing Grace by them. It’s one of my favourites.
Bohemian Rhapsody and daft punk
Actually Kevin (beatboxer) actually sings a part in Mary Did You Know by PTX but instead of Matt (the guy in the white jacket) its Avi the guy with the beanie, who does the low parts in Hallelujah
For me they make it an almost spiritual experience a hymn for the modern era.
Imagine is fantastic, as is Bohemian Rhapsody, Coffee in Bed....the list is endless. Amazing Grace and Hallelujah are great too.
Kevin, the beatboxer, not only is a great beatboxer but plays the cello, the keyboard, and several other instruments TOGATHER AT THE SAME TIME!!!
When Scott steps forward in the second half I cry like a baby every time. 😭
Matt is in the white jacket . Scott, Mitch, Lindsey , Matt and Kevin are absolutely unbelievable .💓
Great reaction Matt, thank you 🥰
Love your reaction
I really enjoy your reactions, thank you!
Thanks pughead! I'm really enjoying their stuff!!
Another phenomenal group to listen to with the headphones (hold the phones close to your ears) is BYU Vocal Point, Nearer My God to Thee! Also A cappella. Talking about goose bumps!!! I watch it once & then I listen again with my eyes closed & listen to every part... Amazing!!!
Matt is freaking awesome and amazing. He took over as the bass from Avi.
Thank you for the voice explanation on Matt. His voice is the one that really gets chills going but I didn't know why. ❤
Scott’s range is often overlooked. He sings so high in Problem and holds bass when Avi and now, Matt sing lead.
This version by Pentatonix is stunning... also, look at this song that's done by the group Disturbed. It's utterly haunting!
There are some good suggestions already, but I think it would be great for you to see one of their other special talents - putting songs together nobody would have thought of :-)
"New Rules x Are You That Somebody" was the first one after Matt replaced Avi that really floored me - soo good!
Then, of course, you might want to check out how well they cover a whole bunch of songs by the same artist and choose one of their "Evolution" videos ;-) Thanks again!
Can’t wait to see more of your PTX reactions. “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Imagine”, in particular. Subbed!
I can't decide which song is my favorite. They are all sooo good.
That is Mitch's natural voice range. His falseto is probably ultrasonic!
He's able to go higher than Kirsten! I once heard him go full on Mariah Carey whistle tone!
I've been following them since they joined The Sing Off; seen them in concert several times now. I've yet to hear them sound bad.
You should definitely check out this live performance: Pentatonix - Aha!, Singapore, The Star Vista. It is incredible!
Just so many
In their "Mary, Did You Know" Kevin, the beatboxer, has a little solo✨.
