  • Tobin McKee's knowledge of "Capitalism Done Right" reveals how with just a small shift in the way that we organize business, we can combat global climate change and the exploitation of people. Worker-owned cooperatives integrate easily into the existing economy, disrupting extractive capitalism without destroying the marketplace. It is a movement that is one billion members strong and growing, and small, local co-ops are the center of it all.
Tobin McKee is a co-op developer for Worker-Owned Humboldt, a project of Cooperation Humboldt, and the co-director of Middleway Network, a free health education nonprofit. Their professional background is in small business incubation and vocational education. With a family history of cooperative development, co-housing and intentional community, and grassroots mutual aid, they bring both a practical and a visionary approach to their work.
Special Thanks to videographer, Johnathon DeSoto, and Cooperation Humboldt!

Love this! Your video has done an excellent job of explaining the connection between cooperatives and caring for the planet. We need empowered local communities if we are going to effectively take on the many tasks that are required to heal the environment and climate.

I have struggled to explain the need for worker cooperatives for a long long time. This whole video is respite from the struggle.

I liked most of this except the mostly innacurate anticapitalist rhetoric.
The language used here conflates corporate plutocracy with capitalism, and while all tomatoes are fruit, not all fruits are tomatoes. In this case corporate plutocracy, while the American and international norm, does not encompass the full range of capitalistic potential.
The traditional American corporation where the owner(s) are free to hire and fire non voting wage laborers at will and manage production as they see fit is to capitalism what oligarchy/autocracy (one person or a small group of people decide) is to republican (rule by law) governments.
Worker owned co-ops, wherein members voluntarily participate with other member owners jointly manage production to produce goods sold in a market (non-coersive (no threat of retaliation for refusal to engage in exchanges of value. Although, I accept that inflexible markets require government oversight) based economy), is to capitalism (market based economies) what democracy (the general will of the majority) is to republican governments.
Capitalism is the free (no force other than mutual personal desire is the primary motivator of the transaction.) exchange of value between two or more entities.
Republican government is rule by law wherein all are bound by the law of whomever is creating the law (generally the prevailing socioeconomic class.)

Where have you seen capitalism not divulge into plutocracy or corporatism ? Free market capitalism is primed for monopoly or plutocracy
