That specific spi chute is the first model Marstrom made after the move from classic rig to the square top+spi+self tacking jib. Not too many of those still around. They also built a full carbon selftacker at the time.
I recently inherited a Tornado from the late 80's. It's in good shape, having last been sailed about 5 years ago. I'm now facing the monumental task of learning how to sail, then learning how to sail THIS boat. I'm a kite surfer, so not a stranger to navigating wind, but this is next level stuff. The boat is in storage, with the mast having been removed, laying flat on top of it. From what i can remember , it's missing the bolt at the base of the mast, the bolt that attaches the mast to the boat. Any recommendation of where to source/build a replacement? The trampoline may need some attention soon as well. Great channel, cant believe the tornados are still flying high. Thanks!!
Great stuff. Congratulations on becoming a Tornado sailor. I would suggest for those kind of parts, join the Tornado Sailors group on Facebook - there's a ton of knowledge there and a lot of people who are enthusiastic to help. I'm not so good on where to get the parts.
Hello Joseph, Great video, as usual, and many thanks for the explanations. We inherited a Mattia S18 and I don't understand where the halyard (rope) goes in the cunningham system (downhaul)??? Like the Tornado, there are also wedge blocks on each side of the mast (mast step). We have a single block on each side of the sail and a triple block attached to a ring at the bottom of the sail....and 3 sheaves(réa) at the foot of the mast. If you ever have a short video, I'd love to see it....ahahah Thank you and good luck David

Yes, I had the carbon self tacker originally but it was huge and couldn't sheet the jib in at all.
I bought a Hurricane 5.9 over 20 years ago knowing nothing. A video like this would have been VERY helpful as you can imagine! Lol
I can imagine.

Yes, I can take a more detailed look at the downhaul arrangement.
Cheers
