To be fair, had I not learnt about north korea in school I might not know the real conditions. There might also be people who look at this and go 'wow it's changed!' thinking its gotten better. Sadly sometimes people struggle to conceptualise that something so horrible is still happening today
When I try to wrap my head around NK and all of its propaganda, I do find it mentally challenging. That country and its politics and all is like, man, do what.
I'm from Malaysia. We all know North Korea's true circumstance. No matter how much they sent out these videos, we, the foreigners are not that dumb. No children would speak or act like that. She looks like she's making videos for a school project. These videos are basically laughingstock for us foreigners. Not towards the children, but towards the government of North Korea, with their play pretend "fun park".
i mean this might somewhat true to the top 1% of the population, like the girl in the "vlog". it's like showing america but only showing the life of a new york heiress, but not showing the bums on the street and ordinary people's lives in the country side. it's still clear even if the girl DOES regularly eat bingsoo and go to waterparks (hopefully she does, what a sweet girl), this is still a scripted propaganda. she never smiled and the words are unnatural. i just hope the production crew is nice to her
When I first heard about this youtube video of vlogs in NK, I was shocked since months ago I read an article about having no internet there or any access to any form of media aside from the state’s own media.
Fascinating. Very clearly carefully directed and scripted. I do wonder why DPRK would bother going to such extremes with the current global situation. It seems like a lot of effort to me.
her accent is good but that must be because she has a 'good' tutor for her. but her story telling is rather like a textbook instead a real conversation, so i done believe it😅

Shes got a very posh old english accent most english accents don’t sound like this unless its london based and it’s an old person. Its like the accent Americans think we have however we haven’t spoke this way in years and only older posh british people sound like this little girl.
I honestly feel sorry for all North Koreans. We had the same regime, I even remember wearing those ugly red scarfs as a kid. You know what we did? We made revolution and now we have democracy. I don't understand why they are so obeying, while they could be thriving, like their neighbours. There is millions of them vs one tyrant and few soldiers ... it's worth of the freedom!
The problem here is that they are comparing life in North Korea with life in Pyongyang. The situation is very different from the rest of the country, and there are indeed many luxuries in Pyongyang. Munsu Water Park is indeed quite impressive.
We all learned british english in school but movies and songs influenced us more 😅 Not sure what North Korea is trying to achieve with this weird staged video though...Also, doubt any foreigner would believe this..
“Endless things our children can enjoy” coming from a kid ?? Ana adult wrote that and she memorized it. A child would never say “our children” when they ARE a child
I’m American. Born and raised in New York. We know North Korea is NOT like the images she showed in the video, and that this was fake. I’m certain she’s on a set and she is a child actor for the government. My heart breaks for her. She’s probably so scared. Fortunately, many Americans know the truth about North Korea. We don’t know much, but we know they are bad.
Song-Ah's 1st video sounds like the script was lifted wholesale and adapted from the Queen's Christmas Greetings! 😅 The rest, her delivery is so stilted, probably because she's trying so hard to not mess up the script… Hyunkyung saw right through it of course, but her nostalgia for General Seome was cute. I really hope Hyunkyung doesn't believe we Westerners buy into DPRK propaganda -- we usually just laugh at it. I almost feel bad for Song-ah… almost.
I think most americans know by now that all NK produces is propaganda, but I don't know about other countries. I imagine most larger western countries know.
As an English person, you can tell her "accent" is a faked one, it's someone putting on the accent, clearly acting and reading a script as you said. It's the same as you'd hear from someone in USA pretending to do an English RP accent. All very forced. No one who learns English from a young age sounds like that.
The Queen did speak like that from a young age, but of course her circumstances were literally unique. No one else speaking English natively sounds like that. RP is basically dead anyway.
Her English is flawless, but not in a normal or natural way. The accent is odd. But mostly she sounds like an AI robot reading a script. Her word choices are very adult choices. (I was a language teacher in South Korea for 10 years, so it isn't a language barrier - it is saying what she is told to say). She has memorized everything from her manners to her script to the inflection. Poor kid.
When i watch this video, it's kinda sad watching hyunkyung's expression. It feels like all of the things in the propaganda video was a dream for her and all of north korean residence. It feels like she envy that the little girl was able to experience all of that in north korea, while she and many of her friends need to endure the hard life. I hope hyunkyung has a better life in south korea!
They literally tell her that at the start of this video. Did you not watch the part where the guy behind the camera said he had to download the video illegally?

that expression, those emotions, are golden
7:42 I don't think anyone besides a few metally challenged western people think that's what North Korea is like!
Not towards the children, but towards the government of North Korea, with their play pretend "fun park".
i mean this might somewhat true to the top 1% of the population, like the girl in the "vlog". it's like showing america but only showing the life of a new york heiress, but not showing the bums on the street and ordinary people's lives in the country side. it's still clear even if the girl DOES regularly eat bingsoo and go to waterparks (hopefully she does, what a sweet girl), this is still a scripted propaganda. she never smiled and the words are unnatural. i just hope the production crew is nice to her
Damn can’t believe I’ve seen this so fast lol, the moment I’ve heard abt the waterpark..bruh u can really tell this video was made as a propoganda.
When I first heard about this youtube video of vlogs in NK, I was shocked since months ago I read an article about having no internet there or any access to any form of media aside from the state’s own media.
I think you watching to much propaganda video.
Fascinating. Very clearly carefully directed and scripted. I do wonder why DPRK would bother going to such extremes with the current global situation. It seems like a lot of effort to me.
It's an old video.
02:36 Extremely thick British accent when she say " go". I can't believe people buying this.
Her voice is satisfying
Hyunkyung is so beautiful !!! 😍🥰❤🥰😍
Part of her Accent went South African 😂
her accent is good but that must be because she has a 'good' tutor for her. but her story telling is rather like a textbook instead a real conversation, so i done believe it😅
What I love the most about these propaganda vlog channels is the idea of they thinking the west will believe it's all natural.
Honestly a lot of older people probably do. They believe everything online.
I dont know how people fall for these so easily, it was the same when Yeonmi park's youtube channel was blowing up and so many people bought into everything she said
Her phone is not filming
Shes got a very posh old english accent most english accents don’t sound like this unless its london based and it’s an old person. Its like the accent Americans think we have however we haven’t spoke this way in years and only older posh british people sound like this little girl.
She probably is the daughter of a high ranking official and attending private school in britain.
Just had a quick look on google maps, that water park looks like it hasn't been open since they filmed that video.
I have a feeling they only open it up during special days of the year. There simply isn't enough privileged families in NK to run it daily.
@@sanseverything900 True. I also have a feeling, looking at the satellite photos, it might have been winter when the photo was taken.
We all learned british english in school but movies and songs influenced us more 😅 Not sure what North Korea is trying to achieve with this weird staged video though...Also, doubt any foreigner would believe this..
You should look through the comments of propaganda videos from NK. You'd be surprised how many people are in awe and actually get fooled.
“Endless things our children can enjoy” coming from a kid ?? Ana adult wrote that and she memorized it. A child would never say “our children” when they ARE a child
I would love to see her react to a north korea vlog filmed by those one of those foreigner tourist groups
At least they didn't kill millions of people all around the world in the name of freedom democracy
You admit yourself you don't know anything; yet you are very sure of yourself
That's alright. We all know the US isn't like the propaganda show on television either.
This girl Hyunkyung is so interesting. She's charismatic and has led such an interesting life
I went in north korea in 2016 and I recognized the 빙수‘s spot. It is a real one, it’s near the central university. I used to go there to have some.
She has a better british accent than me…..a brit.
That's how great north Korea is
I'm from North Korea and just wanted to say we livin good man stop throwing shade.
"You can't become a TH-camr just because you want to, so it must be made up for propaganda"
Seems a quite powerful counterblow for the West.
That child has no soul behind her eyes. It's sad.
She’s so beautiful. I love her red sweater over the shoulders like we did back in the 80s. Looks so preppy and stylish.
Song-Ah's 1st video sounds like the script was lifted wholesale and adapted from the Queen's Christmas Greetings! 😅
The rest, her delivery is so stilted, probably because she's trying so hard to not mess up the script… Hyunkyung saw right through it of course, but her nostalgia for General Seome was cute.
Always interesting to hear opinions from North Koreans about their own country
Bypassing any form of censorship isn't illegal, censorship is what is illegal!
The REAL eagle saying TRUE words! 🦅
something about the see you soon creeeped me out..
That girl isn’t even experiencing that in North Korea. It’s a fake propaganda video.
Would’ve been a great opportunity for a vpn sponsor
Who's going to tell her it's the south who blocked the TH-cam channel from appearing lol
In all the cases, Google will block any NK channel after few months.
They literally tell her that at the start of this video. Did you not watch the part where the guy behind the camera said he had to download the video illegally?
She is so pretty!!
This is below average for Korea.
@@jessicaregina1956 If you mean that from the perspective of Korea's beauty standards, then yeah, probably. I actually prefer Hyunkyung, though. Prettier than most idols, anyways.
@@jessicaregina1956 No it's not, and at least Hyunkyung is real -- K-pop beauty standards are a lie and you bought into it just like they wanted you to.
North Korea isn't the only Korea that makes propaganda. SK's just promotes plastic surgery and unaliving.
I think that ward is for upper class. I heard from documentaries that upperclass of NK can have access to things so maybe they can watch movies like these.
Hyunkyung is so precious☺
I was raised watching Boy General....lol😂😂😂😂
진심으로 여러가지로 가식적이고 역겨운 곳이다.
나라라고 불러주기 조차도 싫어서 그냥 역겨운 곳이라고 쓰겠음
It is still a country for those who were born there and live there, and we should respect this. What we should not tolerate is the awful government/state leader(s) behind the awful dictatorship and human rights violations.
I don't think that phone was even on when D:
don't worry, most if not all westerners do understand that North Korea is lying 😭
Right unless one is super ignorant. This is the one think like 99.9% of westerners know. North Korea is lying about everything. 😂
I can assure her, MOST, if not all 'foreigners' know the videos are fake lol.
i do have a question as to how she watched that cartoon because she said that they didn't have access to electricity
it's not that they didn't have electricity. during the shaved ice part, she mentioned that it was weak. so just most likely they had blackouts, etc. can still watch TV but periods of time where they had no electricity.
The kid looks so not satisfied and overworked
she openly said every thing isn't scary for her? As i heard that north Korea can escape back his peoples from nearby country. Is that true?
she talks like smartschoolboy
The way her comment is so brilliant 🎉
I loved this video ❤
1:56 the Teemo laugh i cant :,D
Hen Gen is very beautiful
Oh god I'm getting a sinking suspicion that this kid lives like she's in the version of the Truman show. Just picked out young, somehow influenced to have a that weird accent and play out propaganda scripts. The accent is so unnerving like she's been listening to an AI version of what a british accent sounds like
Kim should turn N. Korea into the worlds biggest casino with world class shows, and ten times bigger than Disney World, etc, etc....We would come!
Her language skills makes me wonder if she is the daughter of a diplomat and has been one of the few trusted families to have been sent overseas, and then brought back
No need, there's English education within the country as well. Usually some children of elites that can later act as tour guides and interpreters, but now apparantly also to act as propaganda mouthpieces on youtube
The way this is narrated, you can clearly see it's scripted.
Man I love the way they talk.. it’s so alien to an American. Not just the words but the cadence and how they pause on words and just “ahhhhh” sometimes… it’s awesome 😂 also seeing an Asian that learned British style English is always strange to me 😂
It’s like the camera was stuck on macro the whole time to make sure we don’t accidentally see the dystopic nightmare behind the curtain.
Hi just found your channel and just subscribed ❤🥳
Check out “ Surfin in the DPRK” several utubers visited some years ago and managed to make the video, I sure hope the guide who sang is okay. It’s a lovely video.
she is so pretty i love her haircut omg
Wish her have a good life in S.Korea.
She was on the news years back. It was confirmed that she grew up in London where her parents served as Diplomats, hence the accent.
That poor girl is probably forced to live in isolation for the mere fact she even knows about the existence of Harry Potter
Actually the Harry Potter books are one of the few Western series allowed there oddly enough
Is there any video about her and her story? I would love to watch!!
Omg I remember this video from a few years ago.
How did they even get her out of north korea??
08:33 It's funny, but it's the same in China.
they have internet but I think they they just try to use platforms specific to China, though it doesn’t seem like citizens care cause I keep getting odd Chinese videos on TH-cam and instagram.
Google doesn't accept china's policy, Microsoft partly did so bing existed in China.
It's a 2-way problem. It's the same as other countries banning stuff violating their laws.
India banned tiktok, so did USA?
Possibly the girl is the daughter of a diplomat and had lived and been to school in the UK? This would explain her accent at least.
Okay listening to her British accent and being in NK is really nerve wracking to me as a UK citizen no 11 year old speaks like this 100% scripted
A single look at a recent satellite photo of the Korean peninsula at night is enough to debunk it all.
Not knowing how to outer life kills their dream of revolution.
That's why they don't revolt.
