Thanks for watching! We noticed that many comments are posted criticising the length of Oblivion. It's prudent to mention that the ride was the prototype B&M Dive Coaster and was revolutionary at the time of opening in 1998. A vertical / near vertical drop had never been done before, let alone a 180ft drop which 90ft of it is underground. The ride formed a solid basis to be improved upon as we see today with attractions like Sheikra, Valravn and Emperor, much like Air / Galactica did with newer B&M Flying Coasters.
It’s a great ride yeah it’s short but I scream the whole way down and love it , plus the whole colour scheme and branding brings back great memories for me as a kid, pure late 90s goodness
100%. I think people also don’t realise that AT are also very tightly restricted on what they can do with rides because of planning permissions, park access and space available to them. They’ll never have the biggest, longest or tallest coaster but they do innovate and have found some brilliant ways of being ahead of the game despite some very challenging restrictions.
I love oblivion so much. The drop is incredible, your first time is quite terrifying, but after that it’s genuinely pure fun. I got five rides on it yesterday, in the afternoon there were no queues, it was just walk on. My fav coaster
Great ride! View from the top is amazing, then the wait & drop is what it's about. The free fall is so much fun. It is a short ride but that means high passenger per hour so wait times are small.
I chickened out of going on this when I went to Alton Towers and it's probably more scary standing next to it looking up than actually being on the ride lol

Love the quality of your videos, but may I please ask where the smoothing of the footage is coming from? Was it added after or is it built into the camera? Just my opinion here, but I feel it sort of fakes the POV aspect that I feel a point of view video should have. I've noticed it on a lot of POV videos over the last year or so (so I know it's not exclusively with your videos). I just feel like a POV video should be true to the transitions and flow of the physical track than overly doing it with hardware or software. This is just a comment, not an attack or hate on you at all. Purely constructive criticism. Thankyou!
It was filmed with a GoPro Hero10, without any modifications to the smoothing. It’s definitely a valid point as the camera seems to do what it feels best at certain points on rides, such as brake runs where the view seems to enter it at an angle, before self leveling, despite the camera being completely horizontal.
@@AttractionSource Thanks for your understanding! "view seems to enter it at an angle, before self leveling, despite the camera being completely horizontal." - This is exactly it. Not sure if it's something you could try to turn off? Either way, it's your video at the end of the day. Thanks for replying!
When I first went on this as a kid in the early 2000s, I was already terrified by the ride itself, then the queue line videos proceeded to scare the shit out of me. Seriously, those videos… Still the most scared I’ve ever been on a rollercoaster.
I still can’t find an oblivion pov when it used to say “don’t look down” I remember when I went on years and years ago it used to hang over the edge for longer as it whispered those words ! Terrifying 🤣
What terrified me the most about this ride is the amount of Gs you pull at that drop, I’ve never ever dropped anything close to that far in my life, on any coaster or just during experience. I really wasn’t expecting the forces when you drop, and I absolutely hated it when you just wait for the drop and just look straight down, you’ll never know when it drops, even when you’ve been on many times. At the same time; I still absolutely loved it. And it’s not as bad as the smiler, because smiler has that one lift section where you go vertical looking straight up, and you just feel like you’ll fall backwards straight off the ride.
I’m 24 and a complete noob with coasters. I last went on a ride when I was 14 and it was the waltzer teacup so I had no experience with proper rides. My friend forced me to Alton towers to get over my fear of big drop and fast rides. This was the first ride I went on and I was terrified. I felt sick to my stomach when at the top of the climb but it was incredible when it drops. Then went on Rita, 13 and wicker man. So all in all terrifying rides for someone like me but proud I went on them and will deffo be going back.
First time on a roller coaster today first time alton Towers extreme fear of heights but then never screamed at single ride laughing hysterically saying wee on smiler while friends scream and going on oblivion loads more times trying to keep my eyes open with all the air 😂😂
As a person who has went on a bigger vertical drop, I can say this ride is easy. Like it's only the drop which isn't even big and after that is smooth and the ride is done. The dropcis only like 1.5 seconds, not really that bad if you are a fan of drops
fun fact they use to have a speaker at the drop saying dont look down wich caused people to scream more so the vilage of alton got them to remove it cos of noise complaints
