I was in 2nd grade in 2002 and my sister let me borrow her copy of the black album.. after that, she gave me kill em all and Justice... been a fanatic ever since! every album holds a memory, even the less popular ones
The first time I heard Metallica was when they dropped Death Magnetic in 2008, my dad bought me the album for my 9th birthday... since that day it has been my favorite band of all time!

Load and Reload was one of my last... But AJFA remains my personal favorite.
I've always had a love/hate relationship with AJFA.
I hate the production, Vocals sound bad (in the mix, not James voice) and the bass is non existent. Drums and guitar take over all the songs, and the solos just seem so bland. Other than 'one' and the middle section for 'to live is to die', I can't really see the appeal over RTL or MOP. Over all production was just sub-par and sort of ruins it for me.
My first time ever listening to Metallica was when my family would go out for some rides and we'd get a chance to listen to whatever cassette we wanted to. Sometimes it was my sister's turn to put on music, other times, my turn. My dad had the cassette for Master of Puppets, so I'd always want that put on. Now, mind you, the place I live in is small, and I'd only get to listen to the album for about five minutes at a time, but those five minutes changed my life.
I want the all... And I want them now! xD

The first cassettes I ever owned, the very first pieces of my collection, were metallica's and justice for all and ride the lightning. Still have them and I love them dearly. My very first cd was fear factory's soul of a new machine, still have it too, and play it regularly. I'm not such a huge collector myself, like this guy, but I do own, for example, fear factory's obsolete in like 6 different versions. In total I own close to 1500 cds and some vinyls and cassettes, lots of joys and anecdotes out of the music I own.
Interesting how the one he got at 8 years old from selling lemonade still wins over all the ones from his Metalli-Hoarding adult years.

Yes I agree I'm a big metallica fan the really only album I didn't really like was St. Anger
That´s really the only album I can´t listen to also! Load, reload etc have some good songs on them, but St. Anger was always that one that album I didn´t like haha.

all of you are really funny... first , Lulu isn't Metallica's album. it's Lou Reeds. hating and bitching about Lulu to Metallica makes no sense. the gerne of that album is Avant-Garde Metal / Experimental Progressive Metal. which clearly isn't Thrash or Heavy Metal that Metallica writes and plays on their albums , you're free to tell your opinion but you're hating on something that isn't Metallica's , not in their style cause you do not understand/like that kind of music.

I bought that Jump in the Fire cassette back in '87 when I was 12. It had live versions of Seek and Destroy and Phantom Lord. A couple of years ago I found out those were not live versions but alternate takes with the audience added later. For some reason this upsets me.

Doug your a lucky man. I am old enough to remember when Metallica first started. James was so skinny and his voice so high but I got to experience in person the good old bands. I have a lot of some original vinyl albums from bands first cuts. But Metallica is my favorite. Peace Bro. \m/ KILLEM ALL

I got into them in 86 when I was 10. I had a poster of them playing live on mop tour...I fell in love with the white Gibson explorer he used for master and justice ...I wanted that guitar so bad...I recently got the Gibson reissue 84 explorer last year...bucket list item achieved.

First time i heard Metallica i was seven years old, and it was Kill'em All. Then i was listening to first two albums, and Black Album. When i first time heard Load and reLoad i thought "what...?".
I was in high school from 86-90 and got into Metallica in 84. RTL was one of my first albums ever purchased. When I was in high school, Metallica was a bunch of nobody’s, and only myself and about four others in my High School even knew who these guys were. I was the only one who wore a Metallica patched up Jean jacket every day. I used to collect rare Metallica albums back then. I still have my collection stored away somewhere (Different colored vinyl albums of Creeping Death & Jump in the Fire as well as picture discs, bootleg concert recordings, interview picture discs, double LP’s, etc). I remember When AJFA came out, we had about 10-15 more students in the school that suddenly became fans. I knew things would never be the same from that point on. Once they hit the mainstream and became popular (pretty much from 1990 and on), I pretty much lost interest, as the nostalgia of being in that small exclusive club of fans was gone.

Because Cliff is my main inspiration to play music and I really look up to his work, that and he died 10 years before I was born so I couldn't really get one.
Yeah his use of high distortion and really playing the bass more like a guitar is evident and trying to source the correct pedals and settings has taken a while for me but the music style has obviously changed throughout the years, I prefer the thrashier Mustaine days of Kill Em All, You can clearly hear the direction of the band changing when Jason came along.

my idea of collecting is not going after every version of a album but the hardest item to get that one item like the singles or boxsets or promos i once owned a picture disc version of the unforgiven the live in london 1997 single was my priced possession i bought the good the bad and the live boxset which up to that point never heard some of the covers all singles that came with cover b sides that where live

It was a printing error in France. Soon it was fixed so only 400 or 500 copies were ever made.
WSH - Where are you getting these numbers? There is NO way Metallica was pushing that many units in France along in 1984. This was a one off run, and then they corrected it with the proper colour. They would not have allowed a mis print of that size to happen....
It says in my Ride The Lightning table book from the box set that it sells for around $700. Ebay has a fake one for $35 and a supposed real one for $200 as a starting bid.
