I agree with the physical play. I am more of a fan with more dribbling and better passing and clean shooting. Dunking is great but not with a lower rim to accommodate Women. Sharpen up the game, get your shooting sharper, make sharper passes, Logo 3's, 3/4 Court passes. Caitlin looks like a Quarterback with her long passes right to the players. Fast paced play with long 3's and drives to the Basket. That will sell tickets and get viewers.
A significant percentage of the WNBA can't even successfully complete a layup, let alone try to dunk... How about they concentrate on actually improving their basketball skills?
In fairness, asking them to hit a layup is like asking men to hit a layup on a 13 foot goal. So the two things are actually the same subject. Give them a goal that they can actually get close to and they will start hitting layups. The goal needs to be lowered at least six inches and more likely a foot.
@@kenswindle4860 Not buyin it. Caitlin Clark has shown with practice makes perfect, these women just need to hit the gym a little more and show a little more dedication to their craft and then they too can make layups.
@Christopher-v8c5p CC's layup percentage is only 63% I think and league average is 59%. So it's not a big difference and I doubt you can tell from watching
You have a great take on this! I think the game would improve with better officiating, this game is a combo of rugby and basketball. I just started watching this more. But the constant over physical nature of the women’s game diminishes what great skilled players can do.
The rim should not be lowered. I don’t want to see the women playing above the rim. I prefer a fast pace of play; great ball movement; logo threes - EXCITEMENT!! REMOVE the excessive “physicality.” It, as well as the officiating, is ruining the game.
I don't think they should lower the rim. I think they need to get rid of the striped ball and take a lot of the physicality out of the game. The rough play makes them look unathletic and clumsy. Also, the officiating needs to be waaaaaay better.
Nope. Thinking the WNBA needs dunking is silly. Better basketball, better players, better officiating, and less prison ball would make the WNBA more appealing. Caitlin packs arenas for a reason. The WNBA should get a clue.
The one word that is used most when people talk about Clark is "Exciting". Asked why they didn't watch WNBA games before they said boring. Who knew talented exciting playing not only sells tickets it also sells merchandise too. Along with big television rights to broadcast the game. Seriously who knew
I have a WNBA pass with Amazon Prime. My friends and I watched the fever. Now that the team seems to be enjoying itself they're playing quite well, and Boston, Hull, and Mitchell are a joy to watch. Every time Mitchell moves I'm impressed by the athleticism.
The teams that play with a faster pace are pretty entertaining to watch, like the fever and the liberty. Some teams are just a chore to watch. it's basically like 70s basketball, the game started growing after showtime started picking up the pace
@LouieBaLLz She didn't say anything about her he did i been watching her show from the beginning. They both play basketball. she also mentions other players. She does talk about her at all her quest do it depends who it is she basically talk to rappers
Long distance shooters especially. Like really mess up the muscle memory that goes into making 25 in a row. Like a certain someone in the league who reguarily does that. I wonder who it could be.
They don't need to lower the rim. Caitlin Clark is making the changes that women's basketball needs. I liken what she's doing to what Wayne Gretzky did to the NHL in 1979. It was a level of skill in passing that nobody had ever seen before. Caitlin Clark has that kind of skill and appeal.
I don't find it constructive that players like Angel immediately play the victim card to try and justify anything or shift criticism to anyone but themselves. Fans recognize greatness and what CC did for a terrible team (and the entire WNBA) was incredible.
Rims should stay at 10 feet. Or if the rims are lowered it should be by not more than a few inches, not so much as o be visually noticed. Dunks are overrated. There should be less physical contact, more freedom of player movement.
@@RichardIILionheart Rims should not be lowered even an inch because of the negative way it would impact not just all the players who shoot long range but also the logistical nightmare of constantly having to adjust rim heights literally everywhere which will inevitably mess everyone up form constantly switching from 10' to 9'8" or whatever they make it. Not to mention shifting the focus back to pounding the paint leading to a much less exciting and dull game.
@@Christopher-v8c5p The issues you raise are real. Slightly lower rims would not transform women’s basketball. In theory, shooting percentages should increase. Still, the logistical problems have might make lower rim heights impractical.
No, don't lower or raise the height of the rim. Don't mess with the standard dimensions that players have always played on. The women's game doesn't need more dunking, although if a player or two comes along who can consistently dunk, that would be great. Butt don't cheapen it. The WNBA needs: a. a real commissioner who knows what the hell they are doing b. along those lines, much better officiating c. stronger discipline governing both fouls (and cheapshots) committed and statements made by players, coaches and ownership alike d. better, more interesting, more innovative. more positive marketing
No don't think so passing runs the court some players have to learn how to shoot better Refs better inside play instead of forcing their shots inside they have to learn to throw it back out or take a better shot.
That's only player, she's still developing as a rookie and her true shooting percentage isn't high at 45%, she will only get better so we need other teams and players to make wnba exciting, lower the rim, I want to see some posters
Lowering the rim would likely make it worse...even if the girls dunk it won't be explosive or overly athletic. The women's game is different to the men's game (potentially in a good way) reduce fouls to 5 instead of 6 and clean up the officiating. Many more Caitlins are coming up. Clean the game up and in 3 to 5 years we're looking good
The WNBA isn't the NBA, and it shouldn't try and be. I like the Women's game because I like fundamental ball. And you see a lot more of that in the W. What is boring is the low post game. With the stars entering the league over the next few years, lead by Paige and JuJu, we may see an up tempo, skills based game that is dynamic and exciting to watch. Thanks CC for kicking it off.
Me as well (prefer the WNBA)!!!! I just got into watching the WNBA thanks to Caitlin Clark, call me a Clarkie or whatever you want but these complaining Fickle Frans in the comments are just hopping mad with jealousy and they are doing everything they can to ruin this game for everyone!
No to lowering the rim, but the WNBA needs to play offense focused basketball. Sports fans like offense. The up tempo style CC played at IOWA is more fun to watch. Only one game in the finals was in the 90s. CC got her IOWA fan base to watch her in the WNBA which previous women's college basketball players have not been able to do which is what the WNBA needs. Everything matters when you are not the NFL like the WNBA games are played the same times on the same networks every week like the NFL. Having every player wear the same style uniform like the NFL does is more professional too. I like the Kate Martin look with a t-shirt under jersey, no tattoos and nothing on her legs.
Don't lower the rims. The women's game in the NCAA is my favourite form of basketball---and there is little or no dunking there. It's the speed and shooting and skills of the players and team play that have drawn my interest. I've been a big fan for several years. Reminds me of NCAA men's ball back in the 60s and 70s. I've followed several players from their NCAA teams to the WNBA for the last four or five years. I haven't been as impressed with the game there, in spite of the obvious talent of the players. In many cases, I've found the games plodding and slow--and excessively, sometimes brutally, physical. The officiating is atrocious and a real turn-off. Having said this, I did find the championship games to be thrilling and the level of play so exciting---there was stellar speed, passing, shooting, and defence that made the games so fun to watch. But again, the officiating let us all down. If this problem is not addressed, it could damper the widespread interest we've seen in the last year.
If they would work harder at making their shots, i.e., missed layups. People would watch. Nobody wants to watch airballs and poor shooting. Look how exciting it was to watch Kelsy Mitchell, CC and the rest of the Fever light it up from the arc.
TBH I find most of the WNBA games mega boring and predictable, which is why I started watching avidly when CC was drafted to the Fever. I had already followed CC from her time at Dowling and also AB from her time as South Carolina and was excited that both would play together and so it transpired. AR is insane to state that women's basketball can't attract more fans when CC proved it can. AR is quite dumb.
It does generally look like a highschool game. All you need is 1 team to make it more intense/dynamic and they would dominate and influence the league. Get them stronger and more explosive, doing the best that they can to imitate the NBA level and style.
Many sixth-grader boys can dunk. Google it. Calling it a highschool game is charitable. It is like watching fifth-graders play. That may sound mean, but it is true.
Your take is correct - the women's lack of male style athleticism will not translate into women's dunking creating a major difference! It will accentuate that they need a crutch/lower rim when in reality Indiana face paced basketball has shown that many NBA legends as well as huge male and female fans in the US and world wide show the womens' game has some great ballers that will take the WNBA to amazing places if management, many petty jealous race baiting, sexist players, coaches and refs will get their heads out of their butts and embrace the future!
After 20 years the WNBA is finally on the uptick and now there's so many people that want to unnecessarily change things. I like Shaq but this is a silly idea
When I started watching women's basketball this year I thought I'd miss plays above the rim more than I ended up doing and overall the games were not boring at all in my opinion. Players like Kelsey Mitchell or Courtney Williams have play styles that I consider to be very entertaining. With that said, adding more frequent dunks to the women's game probably wouldn't hurt and and having the rims at a lower height would make shooting from the post in general a bit more reliable which is an obvious difference to the men's game at the moment. For me as a viewer that's not a major topic, though, I'll keep watching either way. As far as five out / positionless basketball is concerned, I hope that this will not get more prevalent in the women's game because that is what made me less interested in the men's game over the years as it became quite one-dimensional with almost everyone chucking three pointers. When I tuned into women's basketball I was pleasantly surprised to see traditional post players like Aliyah Boston or Tina Charles, so please let's not get rid of that aspect.
The rim would have to be 7ft10in and the dunks would look stupid. The league needs a gimmick, something that makes it different. The average vertical is way too low to worry about dunking
Dunking is for donuts. And too much dunking (or too many donuts) is boooring! Then there's the issue of retraining muscle memory. Lots of hard work and practicing. Which doesn't mean everyone will be willing and able to do so. So if you're going to require training to learn a different rim height, why not remove that complication, and instead concentrate on REtraining and practicing a skill that they should already have? After all, they were signed presumably knowing how to make layups. They just got lazy in this league.
I think they should start with making their layups at a successful rate first. Dunking has 0 place in that league. The average vertical in the WNBA is very mediocre.
Lowering the rim is a bad idea. Dunking is just showing off. The fun of BBall is watching great shooters and snappy ball movement. Rachael is right. The game Iowa played is a great model... Speed, ball movement and great shooting... Caitlin will lead the way!😎
@@September2004 Because the game never revolved around those aspects of the game that Caitlin specializes in. Her patented logo 3's didn't really exist before her.
I don't need to watch this video - hell, I don't even need to know what this video is about - to know with 100% certainty that Shaq is not right about it.
Lowering the baskets would probably be a mistake. They would have to readjust their attemps. How many would actually be able to dunk besides Griner? The other question is, how low would the baskets go?
Heck no! Women’s physiques are different and not designed to jump and fly. You’re not likely to see the hard, violent, whirling dervish style dunks from the women no matter what. Just no. Period.
I see 2 problems with this. women have a closer 3 line - but its easy to have 2 3 lines drawn on the court and use the one for your gender. They also have a slightly smaller ball, but there are lots of balls of different sizes out there for kids etc. But lowering the rim would require a different height board, or a manually adjusted one so girls and boys would have to have different courts with the correct rim heights for their gender, or be constantly manually adjusting the rim height depending on who is using it. What about public courts - can they be adjusted? Creates a lot of logistics problems with practicing etc - getting used to different rim heights etc. Also we need more sports science for women. I believe I read women get injured more and take longer to heal then mean. I think I read something about womens legs and hips not being very suitable for jumping. So more dunking might mean more injuries and physical problems for women. CC proved you can create an exciting game and get everyone watching (including me) without going anywhere near the rim - maybe they should ask her how to improve the game? Any woman that does regularly dunk though would be exciting - more so then if it was a man. But it might reduce the length of her career due to injury. (again more sport science needed on this I think)
The lack of dunking is one dimension that it lacks but Clarks game is interesting its interesting like Steph Curry and Bird were interest and in a way that Shaq made the uninteresting he was just a big body forcing the ball down the court no finesse
First. What's the difference between having a Mini-Basketball and Lowering the rim? Nothing. Second. I loved it when Shaq told Angel "The WNBA was like High School Basketball". Even worse. It's about on par with High School JV Basketball. I remember a few years ago I stumbled upon a WNBA game on TV, watched for a couple of minutes. Laughed about how bad they were, and changed the channel. That Final validated what most people think of the WNBA!
Watching Caitlin these past few years has been as entertaining (or more) than any men’s basketball. The numbers prove that… I think the game is evolving. Women’s game has always been dominated by forwards & centers, the influx of talented guards is coming which makes it 100x more entertaining
@@tyrich1914I agree. The push from these so called fans to lower the rims is to benefit no talent thugs like Reese who could better mask their dreadful shooting skills.
@@tyrich1914New fan here, and I've enjoyed the hell out of watching Caitlin's playing style. Now that the season is over, I tried watching men's basketball but it didn't have the same attraction. It's fast paced, yes. But there's none of the fancy passing and logo threes. Admittedly that's true of the majority of the average wnba games.
Why not just have an experimental league in the off-season to experiment with a lowered rim so we can know for sure? Not every player has to be able to dunk on the lower rim, just a few on each team. The remaining players can see how long it takes to adjust their layups and jump shots to the lowered rim. And if their shooting % actually goes up as a result.
Lowering the rim will help taller players dominate more and you may get more eyes but it actually hurts the sport. The game is already developing at a steady pace, the women are taller and more talented than they've ever been, the league is still very young and needs to keep building on the momentum they have and to not change too much (rules wise).
Shaq is right and wrong. He’s right that the play is boring. People tune in because CC22 has a flair to her game. It’s pleasing to the eye. Lowering the rim would only lead to ordinary or ugly dunks since we’ve established women’s inability to do what men do in the air. There’s an athleticism and skill level problem that may never be overcome. CC’s a unicorn. Let’s see when Paige goes next year and JuJu 2 yrs after that. Besides I think female players would feel they’re playing more of a gimmicky game than real bball
The majority of basketball hoops across the United States are 10 feet in height, and women's basketball will not have enough pull to lower them or acquire new baskets
Exactly, another problem that this would cause. Both men AND women will likely end up playing and practicing on both 9 and 10 foot rims, it'll be a friggin mess, not to mention having to constantly find admins to adjust the goal heights for everyone involved, and if you have men/boys and women/girls playing together such as a rec center now someone is gonna get messed up.
YES!!! The WNBA is boring. Specifically the style of play. CC plays like a modern NBA guard. Most of the twnba teams play outside in old man boring basketball. The Aces are miserable to watch. They look uh artistic. Reminds me of the black and white globetrotters
I mean, what else can they do to get people to watch besides CC being there? They don't wanna capitalize on CC, so what else to do? These women will never ever listen.
@@AntwoineBakerohhhhh noooo man. i'm actually watching CC games, i been watching her because of how she plays. Ain't ever had a thing to do with race . Sorry bro.
I find a humorous that these women get so insulted when “ a man“ suggest lowering the rim and yet they’ve been playing with a much smaller ball and have a much closer three-point line and they’ve never ever complained about those two things. Why are those two adjustments to the game, not insulting but lowering the rim is? Let’s be honest, they do not look at it logistically like you did you were actually thinking about all the different gems and courts out in public parks and things like that that would be impossible having different heights of rims. They simply look at it like no now you’re treating us like babies. But how was a smaller ball and a closer three-point line any different?
The smaller (and lighter) ball was instituted because a woman's hands are smaller, and so reducing the ball size and weight allows them to better handle and direct the ball. As far as moving the 3 point line, none of the players in the wnba were laser focused on making 3's from the logo and Caitlin was. I believe that her 3's are on average made beyond the men's 3 points line.
@@mikehall4517 Women's entire bodies are smaller and as the video admits, even otherwise same-sized women simply cannot jump as high as men. So it's actually the same issue from ball-size to rim level.
There's never a call to make the 3-pt line longer or the ball larger. Yet making the rim height proportional is somehow insulting because that's way it's always been done.
This isn't so much a rim height issue as a "practice more in the gym and spend less time on Instagram" issue. Likewise, lowering the rims isn't gonna have the effect your expecting .. in fact it'll just make any blown layup look 10X worse on a gimped hoop so I'd be careful what you wish for.
Lower the Rim HELL NO WAY !! IF CC just Hit 25 Frigging 3 pointers, Baby Cakes THEY ALL BEST GET THEIR SWEET CUP CAKES Practicing until they FINGER TIPS R BleedIN 😂😂😂😂
You have it absolutely right. Unfortunately the average player isn't laser focused on being the absolute best they can be. That's way too much like work,,and quite a few wnba players act like they're allergic to work.
I like the rim just as it is. Watch NBA 3's, freethrows and dunks. Alot of dunks. I love watching the fundamentals of WNBA. Shooting at a basket 8 or 9 feet will kill all of the 3 point shooters.
For sure it would shift the power to the players who play in the paint and away from the perimeter players. Which means, the thuggery which the WNBA already suffers will get even worse regardless of whatever few more layups are being made
So then why are much smaller woman’s basketballs ok, why are much closer women’s three point lines ok, and why is much shorter women’s regulation game time length ok? Most rims in churches, outdoor courts, etc. Are rarely, exactly 10 feet tall.
The women’s ball is an inch in circumference smaller. It’s actually kind of dumb that they even make them smaller if that’s all the difference is going to be
Exactly. We already acknowledge the physical disparity between men's and women's basketball in virtually every other category, but acknowledging that same disparity by lowering the rim is "going too far" all-of-a-sudden? These people don't understand that the casual fan is checking for highlights. Outside of the CC logo bomb, there are no highlights from the women's game - no ankle breakers or body's caught. Just fundamental layups and threes. CC will take the league far but the W will never reach the ubiquity of the men's game unless they stop digging their heels in on this issue.
@@jimmyjams962 A lot of the comments I'm seeing in this thread seem to me at least to miss the point. Lowering the rim isn't about them, the current fan, and the WNBA they've been holding on to. This league needs to expand and draw in more casual viewers to grow and take advantage of the moment. To me it seems most casual fans love the dunking, the pace, the movement. Start legislating out some of the physicality, frankly I personally think a lot of what's called physical play is just masking awful technique, and lower the rim.
@@bryantlsmith88 Where are all these dunk obsessed fans you keep mentioning at? They certainly aren't fans of Caitlin Clark who proved unequivocably that quite the opposite is true.
The best way to get people to watch is easy. Stop the racist bullies attacking CC, at least call fouls if they do. Get Refs that know what they are doing and call the games fair, get a commissioner that cares about the sport and when they see a problem fix it. Nobody wants to watch fixed games and people being attacked with no consequences. The reason people stopped watching wasn’t just cause CC was out, the reason was because the Fever lost because she got poked in the eye with no penalty and they lost the second game because it was fixed with the refs not calling fouls the Sun committed. If either team was given an equal chance to win people would have kept watching.
I made the same suggestion. This would be far more exciting than watching these women trying to dunk a basketball (and probably failing miserably) on some lowered rim height.
Dumb idea. Dunking doesn’t make a basketball player. Big deal Shaq. You can dunk from your tip toes. Their game is more skilled than the men’s if you ask me.
The first woman I saw dunking was Candace Parker. And it was exciting... because it was a ten foot rim. If the rim were set at eight and a half feet, middle aged men could dunk on it in their street clothes. That's not exciting. A physical feat is amazing when it is ... amazing. So I agree and disagree. It is exciting when they do it and it is not a rub. But it would not be exciting on a lowered rim. Considering the difference in the high jump world records between men and women, you would have to lower the rims by fifteen inches. Just a little over eight and a half foot rims. Does anyone find it exciting when we see kids dunking on rims that high? I don't. Fifteen years of learning to shoot on a ten foot rim would be hard to unlearn too. So a solid no. But if more women could throw it down, that would really be something. Dominique Malonga has been dunking since she was 16, so I have some hopes she will dunk in WNBA games. But then again, those are unguarded practice dunks, so I guess they would be very rare events in the actual games.
@@danncorbit3623 Imagine that, a physical feat is amazing when it's ... amazing! I get the feeling these DEI equity obsessed clowns/trolls are only here to promote this in order to dumb everything down and completely ruin the league .. just to stick it to Caitlin Clark who would clearly be one of the most negatively impacted players by a sudden change of rim height. And I really think that's their ultimate goal.
Couldn’t disagree with Shaq more. I’ve coached at the D1 men’s level and now on the women’s side and women’s basketball is so much better than the men’s game now. The men’s game has become all about athleticism and less skill. In contrast, the women’s game is gaining popularity because the skill level has been increasing which is why people are watching.
"Blow up the comments" You asked for it :). I only watch your channel now for all my Woman's Basketball updates. Over the last few months of watching several other channels yours is the only one I have found to be genuine, insightful, on point and not just clickbait. You bring real experience and balanced perspective to the discussion. Thank you! I don't general watch any sports. What I do is follow current events. OK here i go. At 2:48 "people always disrespect woman regardless there always not going to give us the same value as a man". Men's and Woman's sports are not the same. Lowering the rim, having a smaller basketball but the same size rim, shorter games and shorter seasons in and of itself lowers the value. I understand why it's done and may in fact be necessary. Just like in professional tennis the woman play best of three during the majors where men play best of five. BTW Billie Jean King is the best tennis player of all time! Her impact on the game was far greater than anyone else's. But I digress. Gymnastics, Figure skating and ballet are the only areas of athletics that I have found woman and men are on par. All other areas are meh.
I'd much rather see the WNBA implement a LOGO 4 point line than lowering rims. How exciting would that be to see Caitlin Clark launch a 4 pointer from near halfcourt? Or make 3 in a row in the last few minutes of a game to bring her team back from a huge double digit defecit? Now that would be the worth the price of admission, not watching Angel Reese struggling to stuff a basketball on an 8 foot rim
Hard disagree. We already acknowledge the physical disparities between men's and women's basketball in virtually every other aspect of the game: smaller ball size, shorter 3-point distance, shorter quarters, etc. But lowering the rims is all-of-a-sudden "going too far"? I'm sorry but what the people who are against this idea are missing is that the majority of NBA fans aren't "hardcore"... they're "casuals". That means that they're only checking for highlights. They only care about the amazing feats of athleticism and the drama. Outside of the CC logo bomb, what "highlights" does the women's game produce that your average hooper couldn't replicate in a local gym? People act like dunking isn't one of the most exciting and attention-grabbing aspects of the game, and are somehow shocked that a version of the sport that is entirely devoid of that aspect isn't popular amongst "casual fans". Give these women the opportunity to generate these highlights and watch the "casuals" flock to their sport.
@@Christopher-v8c5p Well in that case, then they should say so and not ask for more money until the game becomes entertaining enough to generate a profit. And how do we know they even want to change?
I think Shaq might be onto something to at least give it a test run. If it was Lowered to 9 feet, girls might work on their hops more to try and dunk one day. Just something to think about.
I think they should raise the rim for men. I quit watching the NBA because I got so bored watching huge men take 3 giant steps down the court and stuff the basket. Yawn, yawn, yawn.
even if they raised the rim 1 foot in the nba most players could still dunk it.Meanwhile the wnba cant even turn a nicle of profit and would cease to exist if the NBA didn't Subsidize it
I've seen people dunk on lower rims, it doesn't look that cool. It looks like kids in a backyard. Having them slam the ball through the rim isn't the only aspect, it's also the jumping really high and staying in the air for a long time.
And that's exactly why this will never happen unless they somehow push through one of their other woke agendas and replace all the actual females with Blair Fleming and Britney Griner types.
Anytime men, NBA players, commentators, etc. talk about lowering the rim, the first thing that should be said (and I've felt this way for a long time) is why not raise the rim in men's basketball.
🎯🎯🎯 When the great game of basketball was invented, it did not anticipate 8' players and there was no such thing as a dunk. Raise the basket and bring the skill level back the way it should be. Teamwork and strategy.
@@serafinobueti7154 When the great game of basketball was invented, it also did not make any money. Before MJ burst on the scene, NBA championships were still on tape-delay broadcast. Think it through. Take all of the time you need.
No rim change. It’s not like the women will be launching from the free throw no matter how far you lower it. Think of the most boring dunks in the men’s game, that’s the best the women will be doing.
That's what I find so puzzling about this push for lowered rims there has to be some other ulterior motive at play here for this insanely stupid idea to persist year after year
When I was a kid my dad mounted my hoop at 8 feet. All through high school I undershot the 10-foot basket. Muscle memory will of the current women in the league will leave them unable to compensate.

Dont lower the riim! I dont watch the NBA because of all the play above the rim. That is not talent! I like the womens game skill is required ro score.
Charles Barkley says it often . Shaq your a big dummy . How about raising the NBA rim so not every six foot point guard won't be tempted to posterize a seven foot center .
Imagine the NBA with the Rim so High - that none of the players could Dunk - it would look really foolish . That's what the WNBA looks like . Reset the height of the Rim for women - and end this nonsense
The problem as has been explained over and over and over now is the women would need the basket to be lowered quite substantially in order to facilitate more dunking. 😜
The female physiology isn't built for dunking. Their lower center of gravity and maturing bodies mitigate against becoming effective, entertaining dunkers. I'm opposed to lowering the rim because it won't help. Women's tennis was boring until bigger stronger, more athletic women, like the Williams sisters came into the sport. In the WNBA, Caitlin Clark is the start.
Lowering the rim doesn’t fix anything if you can’t even GET to the rim without being tackled.

Hell no. The physicality is what makes the league great.

No. But making five fouls the disqualifier instead of six would help free up the game from being a slugfest.
And call the fouls consistently and fairly.
Actually calling muggings as fouls would help too.
They only play 20 min quarters though

The issues you raise are real.

The WNBA needs:

b. along those lines, much better officiating
c. stronger discipline governing both fouls (and cheapshots) committed and statements made by players, coaches and ownership alike
d. better, more interesting, more innovative. more positive marketing

Lowering the rim would likely make it worse...even if the girls dunk it won't be explosive or overly athletic.
I love Shaq too, but I can’t disagree more. I actually prefer to watch women’s basketball over men’s. Not sure why. Don’t lower the rim.
@@kenswindle4860 no its not, its good basketball
No. It will throw off their shot.
Rachel, looking at that final shot of your intro, the first thing they should lower is Wemby.
No lowering the rim. Dunking is boring unless you're launching from the foul line and flying through the air like MJ.
The rim would have to be 7ft10in and the dunks would look stupid. The league needs a gimmick, something that makes it different. The average vertical is way too low to worry about dunking
I agree. They should make the rim higher in the NBA.
I suspect this such a minority view among NBA viewers.
When it comes to entertainment value, I suspect they like all sorts of dunk.
Also , thank you Rachel, enjoy your programs and your insight.
Lowering the rim is a bad idea. Dunking is just showing off. The fun of BBall is watching great shooters and snappy ball movement. Rachael is right. The game Iowa played is a great model... Speed, ball movement and great shooting... Caitlin will lead the way!😎

They could call it.... Unrivaled!
@@christopherkohl6511 Unrivaled has a lower rim?

How about increase your vertical just like volleyball players!

@@jimmyjams962 couldn’t agree more!
@@jimmyjams962 A lot of the comments I'm seeing in this thread seem to me at least to miss the point. Lowering the rim isn't about them, the current fan, and the WNBA they've been holding on to.
Lowering the rim equates to lowering the standards. That's not only demeaning, it would be a continual source of ridicule by men in the NBA.

You mustbe joking🤣
don't lower the rim teach them how to dunk high rims
No one wants to see women dunk.
Better than missed Layups
Better not watch Ashyln Watkins of SC then, he's been dunking since high school.

Couldn’t disagree with Shaq more. I’ve coached at the D1 men’s level and now on the women’s side and women’s basketball is so much better than the men’s game now.
No leave the rims where they are
And leave the ratings where they are for non-Caitlin Clark games!! Leave the WNBA in the red!
@@September2004 The league will evolve to mimic Caitlin Clark's style of play eventually. Can't expect changes overnight.
If it’s so boring then you do it?
@@aviagrawal5903Why would I want to do something boring?
even if they raised the rim 1 foot in the nba most players could still dunk it.Meanwhile the wnba cant even turn a nicle of profit and would cease to exist if the NBA didn't Subsidize it
100% agree
I've seen people dunk on lower rims, it doesn't look that cool. It looks like kids in a backyard. Having them slam the ball through the rim isn't the only aspect, it's also the jumping really high and staying in the air for a long time.
Spud Web was only 5' 6" and he could Dunk and tons of under 6 foot NBA Players could Dunk!
@@ASurvivor1 Cause they are men...
Umm . . . because men's basketball actually makes money and people actually like watching it. Think it through. Take all of the time you need. 😅
@@serafinobueti7154 When the great game of basketball was invented, it also did not make any money. Before MJ burst on the scene, NBA championships were still on tape-delay broadcast. Think it through. Take all of the time you need.
Dudes would still be dunking at 11', and the girls would still be having problems at 9'..
@kenswindle4860 Umm, I've thought that they should have raised the rim 30 years ago. Making money wasn't even a thought for me then.
That's exactly why I think a good portion of these woke wankers want this change, they know it's going to screw up the sharpshooters who have practiced the hardest on standard 10 foot rims, namely Caitlin Clark.
Oh, by all means, lower the net, but never mind the racism, bigotry, hate and jealousy and the atrocious refereeing
The amount of IQ I lost listening to that pod 😂
Don't lower the rim - widen it. It's now, what, 18" diameter?! Double it. Maybe they'll finally make some layups.
Add some logo 4 pointers too since making a 10 footer will be basically a gimme.
WNBA is worse than high school basket ball....
It's like the guys in High School who weren't good so they were relegated to the JV Team.
Love you brutal honesty thank you
Imagine the NBA with the Rim so High - that none of the players could Dunk - it would look really foolish .
Williams brothers more like. They were both born as males and transitioned at a very early age for the express purpose of defrauding womens' tennis.
I don't think they should..But they should learn to score more.. Just learn to score..They don't need to dunk..
Lowering the rim won't make it exciting.
dunking is not the issue, speaking for myself its about demonstrating skill to a professional degree.
Even if you lower the rim the women that can dunk it’ll look basic the men have athleticism strength and jump high
