  • Family members share their stories about how they became caregivers for their loved ones, and the stresses it can put on their lives, families, emotions, and physical well-being. The challenges faced by these family caregivers can bring a sense of loss and depression, but they are able take comfort in the sense of support and contentment that Home Instead CAREgivers bring to their lives.

Sole caregiver 23 years for BOTH parents simultaneously with debilitating neurological diseases, becoming immunologically disabled in the process. Parents died 6 months 11 ways apart in 2009. Today in 2015 I have yet to recover. Former friends and family all drifted away when WE were not there to do for them as had been OUR custom. No one calls, except to ask me to "do something else for them or loan them". Do they not see me broken needing help? Asked for help and found very much the opposite. Walled myself away for six years, now its get up or LOSE THE HOUSE. We won't talk about finding out what parents DID NOT DO about savings and insurance and being left in massive debt. Nor will we talk about relatives stealing major funds from parents in their last years. This series is a great find. More folk should know. Caregivers are so often dying in plain sight. It is more than a notion to give care AND SURVIVE IT. AMEN :-D !!!

I have a situation with my elderly dad. His mind is fine. He has no dementia. But his body particularly his legs are weak. In 2020 my step mother died of cancer and dads health started to decline. But even in the best of times I didn't always get along with my dad. He specializes in getting on my nerves. But believe me I sympathize with everyone here. Being a caregiver is not an easy job. I do practically everything now. Bathing, feeding changing adult diapers and I'm around 24 hours it sometimes drives me right up the wall.

Phillip Riggins: hang in there. My mom passed 8 days ago. She was in a nursing home the last 5 yrs of her life. I was there every day to help (almost forced) her to eat lunch & brush her teeth. As her dementia worsened she became more combative & uncooperative. I'd stop back after work late at nite (2nd shifter) & be with her all day on my days off. I was so afraid of losing her, but she was so bad at the end i almost felt a relief when she passed. She lived a great, loving life. I feel so blessed to have been able to care for such a wonderful soul. I got more out of that experience than she did. I almost lost my mind, but it was the greatest gift of my life. You'll be happy to know you did your best when they are gone.

See, earlier I feel like I failed a test because I got frustrated with my Mother.....I FORGOT that she FORGETS...I am not complaining....I just get tired sometimes. I work 2 jobs.....and when my Mom(she's 92) fell asleep in her chair, I was crying in the kitchen.....and then I REMEMBERED that I FORGOT THAT IN THE MORNING SHE WILL HAVE FORGOTTEN AGAIN and the next wake up will be a brand new day....🙃 WHEW.....

Powerful and relatable stories. To me video is a bit misleading it doesn't really deal with caregiver stress relief if you can't afford to have someone look after your loved one full time or frequently .

Great video! It reminded me of when I cared for Rose who had dementia. It was as if she left her body and an evil spirit came into her to cause chaos and pain. She used to say, "Peggi, my mind is all scrambled up! I am lost in space!" If we don't take care of ourselves as caregivers, we can experience caregiver burnout and eventually get sick. The Inspired Caregiver book was created for the health of the caregiver! Caregiving is serious business. We need all the help we can get!
Thank you Caregiver Stress - Great video!
