    Imagine a hairdresser saying mid-cut, 'We don't have to do this...' 🤣 This tells me the haircuts are a real clue into someone's essence, and you're the first one to really highlight this that I've heard.

    • @Gabriellearrudadesign
      @Gabriellearrudadesign  ปีที่แล้ว +62

      I should have listened! I think since haircuts and styles are so close to your face they can really help you cement your aesthetic. That's why I think once people find the "right cut/look" they end up keeping it for a long time and only making subtle changes

    I feel like people like you are the antidote to the toxic beauty standards they try to shove down our throats :)

    I am gamine and sometimes I don't like it... I used to feel unsexy and not beautiful. Don't get me wrong, I love being "boyish", boisterous, and bold, but sometimes I felt that compared to how striking dramatics are, how gorgeous romantics are, how otherworldy ethereals are, etc, we gamines were just... underwhelming. Why would someone want to look at us when they can look at them?
    Well, the fact that you started by saying "All the essences are beautiful... but gamines have a special spot in my heart", well that was so flattering and honestly a boost of self-confidence. The fact that somebody could like... me? Game-changing. You say that people can be attracted to us because we do have charisma. You don't know how important it was for me to hear that. The nice things you said about us trying to show people that you can enjoy life, that we always show up with a smile, that we bring a positive energy to the environment, all of that was so important to hear.
    I honestly didn't know that there was someone who appreciated gamines.
    This video is also full of extremely helpful visual examples, I can only imagine how time-consuming it was to search for all those reference pictures and to edit them into the video. But it makes such a big difference: this video is extremely high quality.
    I will try to step more into my natural energy, the energy I would have had if my life and experiences didn't dampen my self-confidence, my desire for happiness, my high spirits.
    This video is so important and it was yet another piece of my "Love yourself" puzzle.

    The kibbe community beat it out of me that I could possibly have any stitch of gamine essence. I was a soft natural, that’s it. I’m romantic and natural, but then - I looked back at my history. I suited short hair very well, I was known for being unexpected and playful, and I don’t feel right unless I wear my quirky pieces. I also studied essences from Truth is Beauty…. And low and behold everyone - when not seeing me through kibbe constraints - saw romantic natural AND gamine.

      @suzanneroelofse5970 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Lol! Wow, almost identical over here. Soft natural with natural and romantic essence but something felt missing. I thought dramatic because I have a big personality, but it's so harsh on me. This video just confirmed that my face and energy is so very gamine.
      It's why I struggled to ID in Kibbe for a long time. My body definitely has width and my bones are not small and delicate, but my face and height feels so gamine. Finding the essences has filled in the picture more clearly.

    • @alia_babo
      @alia_babo ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Omg this is me! I'm a Kibbe Soft Natural, but sometimes I feel like I look a bit too playful, especially when I suit short hair so much (more than I suit long hair). Now I'm exploring the 7 essences to find my blend.

    Elis Regina, a Brazilian singer-songwriter, is a perfect example of a gamine. She was playful, pixie-like, energetic, fun, charismatic, and charming, with a boisterous laugh and contagious smile. She rocked a pixie cut like no one else. Her nickname was "pimentinha", meaning "little pepper". Love her!

    I’m a FG in Kibbe and I recently determined what my “three words” are to describe my personal style: androgynous, structured & playful. I was having a hard time figuring out what my last word should be but when I looked more into the gamine essence, I found it really game-changing.
    I was always drawn to both classic and dramatic/edgy styles, but it always felt either too dull or too serious on me. When I realized my last word was “playful”, all I had to do was stick that adverb before any other aesthetic and it was now my style (eg. playfully classic or playfully edgy). It’s a relief knowing you have a word that really grounds your personal style together succinctly. Like a home base.

    • @Gabriellearrudadesign
      @Gabriellearrudadesign  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Totally! A "home base" is a great way to refer to it. You can always deviate but you know where your strengths lie. And I love your style words!

      Saaame! In Kibbe, I'm a Soft Gamine, love some styles, even the makeup; but the whole look doesn't work for me. Hence, discovering that in Kitchner's Style Essence, I might be a Ingenue, but I don't like pastels LOL I have always gravitated towards a more romantic, classy in style as my personal preference AND NOW EVERYTHING JUST MAKES SENSE!

    As a Kibbe soft classic with some blend of classic, gamine, and ethereal essence, and a true summer color season, there is absolutely a way to combine all of them together. My gamine essence and classic essence are probably equally dominant based on how clothes work with my face and body and there’s a lot of subtle finessing that’s made it possible for me to express my gamine essence while still honoring my balance and light, muted coloring. I use SC silhouettes (and I stick to solid colors mostly), gamine details like sharp collars and cropping, and playful combinations of my summer colors while keeping everything very luminous, and I end up successfully conveying my unique essence blend, which is really true to my personality

    OH. MY. WORD. I'm only fifteen minutes in so far and I can't even put into words how incredible this makes me feel. I felt so out of place and awkward when it comes to fashion for so long, and I've started finding what works for me more recently but couldn't really put words to why. It all felt like such a weird combination....small but not delicate...bold but not dramatic (in the ID sense)...angular and boxy and somehow kinda...to borrow the word, impish?! But boom, this just puts it all into place. I feel so seen and SO much more confident already. THANK YOU

    *LOUD STANDING OVATION* I have been awaiting this video (I think Gamine is my dominant essence) and you did NOT disappoint. This was masterful. Wonderful. All the things. This also helped clarify my essence blend a bit b/c I've been debating whether I just like small c classic style or if Classic is in my blend. I look really good in small scale sharp pieces and rock the hell out of my signature super short pixie. But I can go from sassy to silly REAL quick with too many quirky details.

    I’m a Kibbe Romantic, but struggled when I followed the lines slavishly, as I often felt I was taking myself too seriously and coming across a bit cringe or overtly sexy. Essence-wise, I’m pretty much pure Gamine and resonate with everything you say, even down to the mid century home!

    This was so worth the wait! ☺Thank you so much for all the hard work you put into these videos - they are so helpful! Before this video I assumed I had some gamine essence, but this really helped me to see how much and in what order. I'm a SG with a classic-ingenue-gamine essence I believe, but never really click with the gamine style and look absolutely horrible in very colourful and playful outfits, and easily get overwhelmed in too busy outfits. I think I have certain physical descriptors of a gamine but the personality is very far from mine. I am really glad that you spoke about the sometimes negative connotations to the gamine (like the misconsumption that gamines can't be attractive/hot), because it made me realize why I always felt almost offended if anyone said that they saw some gamine in me :') I feel like I can embrace it more now and hopefully figure out what parts of my outfits could use a little gamine, so thank you so much! 🥰

    I'm a Kibbe FG with classic, natural and gamine essences. I'm still figuring out which of the 3 essences are most prominent but it's been such a fun journey for me. I've always been drawn to timeless/classic pieces but always feel the need to mix it up with something quirky, fun, or unexpected which translates in many ways through contrasting fabrics (lace and leather), mixing dressy/casual (graphic tees with work trousers and chunky loafers), or basic tee and jeans with a super fun belt, bag, or shoes. Some of my best outfits include really cool thrifted finds. I loved your video! Super helpful and helps me embrace my style without feeling the need to put myself in a box!

    Have been loving bingeing these essence videos! They're really helping me embrace my actual self with my clothing. I've always been quite bold with style, but sometimes went overboard and felt less like myself. I think I'll have a better understanding of my essence blend when I watch the dramatic video (just from the intensity of my face, it's likely a pretty big part of my blend even though I'm 5'4 and most definitely a Kibbe SN). I think my favorite dress really exemplifies my essence blend - it's a tea-length cream linen dress with a sweetheart neckline, tortoiseshell buttons down the center, a nipped in waist, and a large lemon print motif throughout. The pattern continues through the entire dress, and isn't stopped by the clearly defined waist, and the fabric is lined, so it's floaty but not like an unlined linen - it's still got weight and structure to it. I always get heaps of compliments when I wear it, whether it's with heels, sneakers, giant matching lemon earrings, or a dainty ear stack. Hair down and free (I have wavy hair with some ringlets if I let it dry without styling, as I usually do), or in a loose bun. I have the same dress silhouette in white with a blue porcelain print, but it doesn't look as good on me (smaller print, cooler toned colors) by itself. I have to wear that one with bolder coordinating eye makeup and heels OR wear a cardigan/sweater on top to wear with casual shoes. Oops this is long, my apologies.

    Finally! Thank you so much for making such a comprehensive explanation. I felt very good after finally discovering I was a Soft Dramatic in kibbie, because, as you said, it explains what silhouettes and fabrics look best on my curves. But I always related more with the gamine essence, and throughout my life friends would say "you look like a fairy" or "you have such a pixie energy about you". Now you finally helped me see how I can combine the two systems in a way that feels like ME. What you do is a service to humanity, thank you so much. 🙏💕

    Wow I LOVED this. Before watching I thought oh I know I defo don't have gamine essence in my blend but I'll watch anyway just because I like your content and interested in the system. Just finished it and now I'm convinced that I have a bit of gamine in me!! I'm a flamboyant natural in kibbe and defo natural is my dominant essence, but I've always gravitated to quirky styles, clashing prints, interesting cuts and my style has morphed so much over the years, my wardrobe is constantly changing because I love trying out new fashion trends even though sometimes they defo don't work on me. People have also described my style as cool or quirky at times. You've given me a lot to think about! Thank you so much for this series, I can tell a lot of hard work goes into making these videos💗

    Ok I haven’t even finished the video yet but I’ve been watching the entire series and this video has helped me SO MUCH! I’m a Classic-Gamine-Ethereal and probably (it’s still confusing) a Kibbe Soft Classic. The way you talked about Zooey Deschanel made so much sense. Like I think I felt some of those things intuitively about my outfits but seeing it play out on another human really made things clear. I feel like my essence blend is not that common, so I’m having a hard time finding style inspo. I know you think she has ingenue rather than my ethereal but I still find it helpful. Also your examples of the ingenue vs gamine prints made it crystal clear to me why I favor some dresses over others. I have 4 of literally the exact same dress and they’re all floral print (I love a floral) but there’s one that just doesn’t make me feel as beautiful but I bought it because it was a floral print, and I love those, right?! And now it’s so obvious that the SCALE of the floral makes all the difference and my least favorite dress has these minuscule flowers all over it which makes it far too ingenue for me. Sorry for the long comment and I may leave another one after finishing the video 😅 but I wanted you to know how helpful this series has been and how much I appreciate all of your examples 🥰

    This is so fun and exciting to see! I like seeing your series expand and learning more about all of this! I definitely think I have probably my dominant essence as gamine and also fall into some of those stereotypes (creative, I like to skip around, have been called/thought sometimes I'm a bit of a Manice Pixie Dream Girl lmao) and seeing this whole video when I wasn't 100% felt like ticking lots of little boxes like it all makes sense haha! I really appreciate that your videos accommodate a variety of styles and experiences/needs. And Looking at more classic ideas of an essence and the history, the development of our idea of certain styles, where and why they thrived and how it comes into play in the present day or how to achieve different things with that!
