In 2004 as a striker a team was build around you for you to score so u didnt have to search the ball, I feel like nowadays teams set up to play a type of style/tactic and as a striker ur meant to go search the goals. With this shift of tactics strikers became less important in the academy's. I dont want to blame anyone but pep i see you 17:01
And with the defending i feel like the defending has got better because there's less space to dribble and everyone knows how to play as opposed to older gens where there were gaps all over, you had teams playing flat formations like 442 and if you get passed the midfield you're immediately at the defence and everyone played like how united play today bare gaps everyone and lack of support, you can even go back and watch kaka's games, the amount of space he had was insane
You said to comment again, let’s talk about goal catalogues. Rooney didn’t score a single pen in the prem until his 84th goal, you can’t be telling me that’s not up there as one of the best gunman varieties out there
For a video that claims to focus "entirely on strikers", let's have a conversation about the first 15 minutes. Bring back your 1-hour intro. Love the content.
58:00 nunez over havetz is bad because people forgot that havetz was playing 8 last season but when we played him striker he scored and this season has two goals and has been one of arsenal best player this season
Nah I can‘t agree, nowadays it‘s harder to score then back in the day. Only Haaland makes it look easy. But defenders are faster stronger fiter and also teams are tactically way ahead of back in the day
it's statistically not true tho, more goals are scored today than ever before. There has been a huge goal inflation post 2010. It's just not the strikers getting the goals, it's more often wingers now. Also players are fitter, and run more over 90 minutes, but they're not faster. Humans have not gotten faster lol. Overmars or Anelka or Henry would still blitz everyone today.
@@saqet7546 a top 10 player? He would lol, he may not be the absolute best player, but he would easily be top 10. Unless you mean, his 2004 version is plopped right into a game instantly with no extra training/tactics knowledge, then yeah you're right. There's literally a clip of an old Overmars demolishing a young Cristiano Ronaldo in a race, these guys would adapt to the modern game fine. The biggest change has been tactical refinement imo, attacking was way more off the cuff back in the day.
15:43 also I think you looking at the career of though player for example Ronney 2014 wasn’t good and other players on that list also the current player are all younger while the others are like 26 years old
15:43 ngl that’s just a bad year last season for example if u did the season before just on striker it would have been better because u had Kane toney and haaland with 25 plus goals like if u compare the year anlkiea got top soccer to 2023 like it would be close
you guys only rate the players because you're looking back at them and not rating them at the time, compared to now, now we're in a new gen with zero rated players so of course you'll think this gen is worse. But when for example these players now start getting more ratings youll look back in 2034 and be like omds football fell off
Of course because in life there’s a lot of things that were better in the previous generation in comparison to now. Football is becoming less and less individualistic and football was a sport where it’s all about entertainment. Naturally the generation before is better because there weren’t systems back then.
@@nolimitmo if there weren't systems then why were there coaches? Just cause u notice formations a lot more doesnt mean they werent there. I agree with less individualistic because of the way teams play like you cant really dribble vs a low block so they have to pass
29:55 Bro you're counting goals from Baggio and Totti who were both never considered strikers. Either take the top 10 face-value or actually remove every non striker. Messi in 13/14 wasnt a false 9 either anymore. Ronaldo wasnt a striker either. Benzema was their striker. Be more consistent. The data you presented is fairly flawed. Also considering Havertz a striker for the full season when he played his first Prem game as a striker in February is crazy as well. My list would be by ceiling: 1. Haaland 2. Havertz 3. Watkins 4. Jackson 5. Nunez 6. Isak 7. Zirkzee 8. Solanke 9. Hojlund 10. Duran By perfomance level over the last season until now: 1. Haaland 2. Watkins 3. Solanke 4. Havertz (not enough sample size played only 18 games at striker from 23/24 til now. He scored 10 and assisted 7 ) 5. Jackson 6. Isak 7. Hojlund 8. Nunez 9. Mateta 10. Cunha
20:43 ok now it’s bias because no way u put Ronaldo and Messi there when u clearly said just striker because for the premier u would put salah and other winger who got goals
How is Henry not getting a shout for best goal catalogue?? Flick volley vs United, solo dribble goals vs Liverpool, Real Madrid, Spurs, backheel against Charlton - TONS of bangers, volleys, finesse, first time finish. The guy was literally an anti tap-in merchant from 02-06. His ratio of good goals to goals, might actually be the best in history.
I think Haaland is absolutely in all time convos, and for me personally I think he's already the 2nd best PL striker ever after Henry and 3rd best overall after R9/Henry, usurping Suarez. Suarez is nice against Norwich, but athletically he ain't all that, I like forwards who have mad pace and power, who strike fear in opponents, and his goalscoring is just undeniable. R9/Henry are untouchable though
just started eating perfect
0:15 I think you man doing a podcast on other than football would actually be so funny I’ll be ur first subscriber
I'm here coz Hass directed me here being a Liverpool fan I love his content
Great timing to drop an ep. Finally got material for commute back home.

19:30 « That’s a religion » I’m dead 😂😂😂
1:28:50 this is what jad was talking about 🤦♂️
this is an elite lineup
Wassios (only commenting for hussein)
Some of the strikers in 2013-14 were nothing back then, but they are stars now. Its because they have built on that.
The art of the poachers is getting held but erling
