    A friend wanted to get into modeling and I sat her down and said, "For both building models and painting them I have three rules: 1. Slow down. 2. Pay attention. And 3. Slow down." In my experience, getting in a hurry is the worst thing you can do, and from watching this, I see that you seem to follow these rules, too.

    Most of the time, i also do i all over wash, then layer it back up with a few extreme thin layers. Could say glazing it back up. Gives you more control over feathering/shading for different areas. I find that it works way better for me than doing recess shading, and then adding darker wash to shaded areas. Takes longet maybe, but imo a much better finish. No right or wrong, just how i like to paint. I like to paint it a little more realistic, faded, and sometimes "gritty" (not grim dark) but clean, understand that this is a one-off cartoon like, and i really like the result! Excellent video!

    Lovely! This is exactly what I've been looking for! I'm just starting out with Ultramarines after a 20 year break when I was collecting Eldar as a kid and the default coloring felt always too dark and triste to me. This is exactly what I'll try to replicate. Amazing job and channel!

      I really like the punchy blue too. You're so right, the current scheme has gotten really dark, I suppose to tie in with the grim dark narrative, but I have fond memories from my childhood of them being the super bright marines and I think this scheme really ticks that box

    That’s an amazing paint job, probably one of the cleanest minis I’ve seen. I did notice that the blue seems a little powdery, almost textured. As much as you said you thinned your paints to get a smooth finish I can’t help but see a rough texture to that blue. I don’t see it on the citadel paints though. Is this a property of pro acryl paints? Do you notice it, or is it just me?

      I know exactly what you mean and it’s only on camera that it’s visible. Even under heavy magnification after then light spray of varnish was applied it all disappeared.
      I think it’s more my primer than the paint to be honest, as I get the same with citadel paints.

    A very nice blend of the good old 2nd edition Ultramarines paint scheme and the best of the new color schemes. I like it alot.
    I am not sure if a zenithal highlight is really required when you plan on painting very solid layers over them anyway.

    • @BrushstrokePaintingGuides

      No, the zenithal isn’t essential for this scheme. It just helps with the camera picking up details in the video.
      For the bright result it does need a light grey or white primer though

    Hello, I'm new to the hobby. Would you recommend to prime my Ultramarines in blue or is black (zenithal) the better way? Thank you in advance.

    • @BrushstrokePaintingGuides
      @BrushstrokePaintingGuides  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi
      Welcome to the hobby 👍
      So, if you’d like a darker finish to your ultramarines, then use a black primer.
      If you’re wanting a brighter vibrant blue then a pale grey or white primer is better.
      Of course, if you can find a primer which is the exact shade of blue you’re going for then using that will be the quickest route of them all.
      Zenithal of light grey over black is great as a best of both worlds. As it will help show where the shadows and highlights need to be. If you keep your layers thin you can even let that pre-shading show though by applying washes over the top
      More details in this video
      th-cam.com/video/mADYQQOH9a8/w-d-xo.html
      So, it’s all about choices.
      My advice would be to do some quick tests to see which result you prefer before committing yourself to one option

    How did you get such a smooth coat with the Pro Acryl Blue? I’m following this tutorial for my marines and the blue just seems to come out with a blotchy texture. I feel like I make sure not to go over the same spot twice in one coat, blow dry the model in between coats, and thin my paint, but it still comes out rough.

    • @BrushstrokePaintingGuides
      @BrushstrokePaintingGuides  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s difficult to know without seeing how you’re applying it but I would suggest trying the process without the blow drying to see if that improves the result.
      It will obviously take longer but it could be that by accelerating the drying of the paint is making it clump rather than dry evenly.
      Other than that, I’m not really sure what else it could be.
      Not shaken enough perhaps? Or could it have split on your palette during the session?

    Great paint job but why do so many people paint space marines as if they just got fitted for brand new armor. Shouldn’t the armor look like it’s been through some battle? I don’t like the way Games Workshop’s paint job looks because it’s too clean. Just not my cup of tea. I’ve always visualize them in middle of a battle.

    • @BrushstrokePaintingGuides
      @BrushstrokePaintingGuides  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you.
      So, I think it’s just a painting choice. The lore says that the servitors repair and condition their armour like new for the start of each battle and many chapters pride themselves on caring for their armour as a mark of honour and respect to their Emperor.
      Of course, during battle they take damage etc and will look beaten and weathered.
      So, it’s entirely up to the gamer if they want their army to be painted ready for battle or in the thick of it.
      I’m terms of painting guides like this, I took the option to show how to paint the basic chapter colour scheme and then if the viewer wants they could then go on and add battle damage and weather on top. Hope that makes sense 🙂
