    Plumber/DrainTips before auguring a house or residents drain line use hot dishwashing detergent like Cascade mixed in a milk gallon jug and let drain into pipes and sit for 20-35 minutes. Makes pipes slippery to run auger thru. Make sure if your jetting a line with water jet have a wet/dry vacuum that can hold 5 to 10 gallons of water for a quick clean up so to prevent a real mess. Create an adapters to fit the toilet tank filler waterline if you need to run water to a drain jetting system that way you do not have to run a hose outside the house to get water for the drain jetting system.

    I preordered both models.I do own a flex shaft cable with different sized chains.The reason for buying the rigid is because it's enclosed,my cable is loose and does get dirty and as much as I love how well it works having it in a drum makes for a cleaner job.

    • @mikezeke7041
      @mikezeke7041 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Steve kokkinidis yeah, I never got a bare shaft because I hate loose hoses, cords, cables. Trying to store them seems like a pain too. I don’t have room on my service truck atm for a bigger high speed machine.

    • @steveshot81
      @steveshot81 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mikezeke7041 I was looking to at the clog dog but it's overpriced for an electric drill in a steel box.It's nice that it has 125 ft and the cable is thicker but it's also 128 pounds,takes up more space and expensive for what it is.The rigid should do the job and it's compact and light.Having the flex shaft enclosed makes for a cleaner job.You have to use a clutch with these cables or else you will kink the cable.I learned that the hard way.They are not the best when it comes to toilet paper,rags and tampons,you will have to untangle the debris but the cable can still do the job at hand.Thicker flex shaft cables allow you to force more.

    I think this would be great for grease/sludge build up. The thing I don't quite get is how to retract with two hands?? U need one hand to power the drill, then two hands to retract and wipe the sludged up shaft unless you stuff it back into the drum full of crud? This design should have a foot pedal. I'd love to hear from the Ridgid guys on this. I've never seen a real world demo with black sludged up drain which covers the cable/shaft. Also haven't seen how this drum come apart for service/cleaning.

    • @patrickmcleod111
      @patrickmcleod111 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, although modern cordless drills are more powerful than ever, I'm not sure they will have enough power to be used to break up home sewer drain clogs, especially when you consider that a lot of the drill's energy will be absorbed in the process of spinning that long cable inside that long, flexible tube. There's obviously going to be 'some' internal resistance when the cable spins inside its tube, and that's before the cleaning bit even reaches the clog. Then you need more energy to bust through the clog.
      I think that a powerful corded drill would probably end up being the best option for powering this particular tool, as opposed to a cordless drill. Besides, when using this thing, you will most likely be inside a home or office, with electrical outlets nearby. Just carry a 25ft & 50ft extension cord with you.

      I have used my cable in drains with roots.It's recommended that you do use it with a camera.When using a flex shaft and roots it's better to pass the root and then spin the cable while pulling it back.It really does chew up roots.The chains have sharp carbide teeth on them that cut through grease,scale and roots.

    • @RIDGID_Tools

      Hey Ossy: Our FlexShaft team provided this recommendation when dealing with roots. The best practice for clearing roots is to let the speed of the tool do the work. Like using a Dremel tool, slowly work the carbide tipped knocker into the roots and let it cut at high speed.

    Looks interesting. I don't like that it doesn't have it's own motor. If a cordless drill can run it, you could have made a very small, light weight, removable motor. I like to have a foot pedal to have both hands free to manage the cable. It looks like it would be awkward to run with one hand working the drill. What about kinks? How much for a new cable/shaft? 27+ year service plumber.

    manage a mobile home park and im constantly renting either the 100 foot auto feed or the smaller 75 foot one i can run in the 2 inch or the 4 inch but its hand feed like this one. So many applications especially with hand feed it gets to bend and tie ins and it takes like 10 min to jump a bind spot. The auto feed slaps until it hops whatever its hanging up on especially with the chewing bit i call the root bit that looks like the replay vidoe sign with teet. The spade tips i have trouble with especially with hand feed. But i want to know how those chain tips will handle binds and how quickly it will move past them. And like the root comment i imagine roots entangling and you arnt going to be able to retract it. Also what about the unsaid but clearly on all our minds tampons baby wipes pads and the ocasional diaper all tied up in a greese burge wrapped in hair. Does this have thw option to run the standerd assorted heads enstead of chain? And does it have a sping coil to retract it.

      @Der Hof 2007 if you are clearing roots efficiently with a cable, you are probably using expansion cutters. This thing comes in super handy.
      This technology has been around for a while although slightly different.
      This system makes climbing up on a roof to clear a blockage through vent a breeze.
      My guys have been more thorough since they started using this and can do 3+ mainline with follow up camera for realtors everyday and they don't feel exhausted from using the sectionals or drum machines.

    • @dunkdamonk
      @dunkdamonk 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Der Hof 2007 in fact I was pricing this system at a pricepoint just about 30% cheaper than a trailer jetting. Because it can be nearly as effective, in almost every situation.
      So a mainline with sectional or drum machine say 250, the high speed knockers 450 with camera and video, and jetting 6-700 with camera too.
      My guys just started clearing everything with these. So much less maintenance I have found too. We don't have to grease or replace clutches anymore.
      We don't charge anymore money for it now since it's pretty rare we need the sectionals at all. If we do we push for a jetting, or 1¼ dreel with a bad ass drill for outside

      Will Meadows you’re ignorant as fuck. A water hose alone can’t remove set in grease also these can be used to descale cast iron to prep for a liner which is a huge deal.

      @@auspicioustoot I think his point is the price is waay too high. It's not sophisticated enough to warrant the price. A good worker could diy something like this and probably be more effective. For maybe 200 or less.

      UltraGamma25 you can buy the cable with out the reel and it does work good however he was knocking the tech behind it saying it was equivalent to a hose connected to a pressure washer which is just not true. This one designed by rigid however is for those guys that run drain calls all day and don’t wanna grab that huge cable machine or that don’t wanna make a mess when clearing secondary line. I know if I had this I’d be moving a decent bit faster and this would be super useful when having to go on a roof. Just think if you are running drain calls and you can do 3 a day before this machine and this allows you to do 2 more a day. That’s ten more a week and where I’m at we charge 300 to clear a line so the potential extra money is definitely worth considering a purchase.

    Yeah but if you get it stuck and that happens frequently you are out a very expensive cable and now you are in the red or right now I gotta cut open a vent to remove the cable so now I’m down a full day a expensive cable and it took way longer to clear the drain no thanks I’m selling mine I’ll stick with the old unit especially for the price if you do 10 drains and the one catches your cable you will start losing money fast I’m out fuck this machine

      @@jameygorman817 We use Flex Shaft just about every day - push down to the stoppage, run machine through the stoppage, then back & fourth to clear & clean stoppage area, then push cable out as much possible, do the same if you hit another stoppage once you've gone as far as you'd like, run cable all the way back out to the trap or clean-out.
      Without using a camera it cleans roots just as well as a jetter, sectional or drum machine, all of which can also under cut or miss some roots. Of course checking with a camera will allow you to clean up any residual root areas which ever machine you use.
      The camera is only needed of you want to be super accurate with cleaning roots at each joint etc. I only use the camera where the client wants a CCTV or I think there is a bigger issue within the pipe.

      Hopefully this technology will make it to larger units. Reading between the lines they said 70' is about all they felt could be powered by standard cordless drill. Anything larger would need a dedicated motor so hopefully that's in the works but nothing confirmed yet.
