Why is it every time I hear one of his theme songs I'm drawn to watch the movie again for the umpteenth time. The ability to hear and create not just one melody but many counter-melodies, moods, instrumentation, all at once and bring them together is absolute genius material. He is the Mozart, Beethoven and Vivaldi of our day.

Is it that writing to cinema means that a film composer's music inherently is more memorable as it is attached to something that is itself highly memorable, or is John Williams simply himself uniquely masterful in creating iconic motifs? I would argue that since even among film composers his music is memorable above all others Williams truly has a gift.

Ever heard of A.R Rahman?.Not for any sort of comparison.Both of them have compositions that cannot be matched and which are unique in their own ways and no one person can be labelled as the greatest i guess.Also there are many great compositions by many other musicians throughout the world.The act of comparing any one of them to another is unfair to the art they created.

This man is an absolute legend. Some of my greatest childhood memories are of the movies he has created music for, and those movies would not be nearly half as good if it wasn’t for his genius. The music of Harry Potter will stick with me for the rest of my life, never has music invoked so many feelings in me as music composed by John Williams. A legend of our time.
His music always captures the scene it’s played in so well. Even though I’m not watching any of these movies I know what’s going on or at least understand the idea of what’s going on by what his music is doing. Tense scenes, happy scenes, scary scenes, heartbreaking scenes, tragic scenes, magical scenes, epic scenes….they’re all displayed so perfectly in his music!
I teared up at Anakin’s Betrayal 😭 It’s such a heartbreaking, gut wrenching scene and it breaks my heart every time. It honestly reminded me somewhat of the music from The Book Thief when the town gets bombed and it kills almost everyone living there. So I guess that’s just what his music for heartbreaking, tragic scenes sounds like
I went to see a concert of John Williams music in February 2020 right before the Covid pandemic. The concert was put on by the Winston-Salem, NC symphony. The performance was truly breathtaking and inspiring, John Williams is a true genius. Thanks for the incredible music.

Ah, children, I was watching "Lost in Space" when he was "Johnny Williams." His theme music was forceful, carried the energy of a show that didn't have much - that was second season I think. Little did I know what lay ahead for Williams..I went to see "Jaws" a few years later. Wow. Going out into the parking lot after, I could hear that music and be afraid of sharks leaping up at me between the cars. I was in Ohio.!! This composer has been a gift to every project he's touched and a gift to all of us.
I also orchestrate and I can't help but admire Williams. Probably none of the modern composers can boast such a large amount of well-orchestrated music like him.

The best thing about the movies with John William's music, is John William's music. These will go forward as standard repertoire in Symphonic music. It is that good. It isn't a whole lot different than composing for opera. He uses the techniques of the great masters, even stealing some things if you will, but it is unmistakably Williams. Orchestra Kentucky performed a concert of all John Williams music at The SKYPAC in Bowling Green, KY completely acoustically and it was stunning. Go hear this stuff live, without mics and amplification and you will begin to understand just how well done it is.

As much as I love John Williams, you make it look like All he did was Star Wars and Harry Potter. The man deserves Way more credit.
He is such a powerful musician. Truly no less great than the fame and talent of centuries past.

I also orchestrate and I can't help but admire Williams. Probably none of the modern composers can boast such a large amount of well-orchestrated music like him.
I'd suggest listening to Ramin Dajawadi and Hans Zimmer, both geniuses in there own right.
@@yousofzaid872 When I refer to orchestration I mean the real orchestra, not the computer-generated orchestration, which has its masters like Zimmer.

Saw him in Boston while he was with the Boston Pops. Phantom of the Opera was the big music. Beautiful rendition of The Music of the Night.
I too am a big fan of Mr John Williams I have 9 CDs from this great producer but my favorite is the music Schindler's list ❤❤❤

This album missed a lot. Indiana Jones, Superman, The Missouri Breaks, The Reivers, The Cowboys, ET, Jaws, and his Olympics music. There is more to John Williams than Harry Potter movies and the Star Wars series. A LOT more!

If you want to have all the best of John Williams in one collection, you have to make by yourself. It would be a pretty big album!

The best thing about the movies with John William's music, is John William's music. These will go forward as standard repertoire in Symphonic music. It is that good. It isn't a whole lot different than composing for opera. He uses the techniques of the great masters, even stealing some things if you will, but it is unmistakably Williams. Orchestra Kentucky performed a concert of all John Williams music at The SKYPAC in Bowling Green, KY completely acoustically and it was stunning. Go hear this stuff live, without mics and amplification and you will begin to understand just how well done it is.
