Also the VC is a guerilla force that frequently hid behind civilians and we're farming by day and shooting by night. The VC also put innocent civilians in the middle of it by hiding guns and equipment in villages and of course threatened death to the villagers if they said or did anything. Also the VC had underground tunnels so they could start an ambush and then vanish into the tunnels while American troops and our allies sat on F.O.B's that were visible and known to the VC. Almost each battle fought was on the VC's terms because they had the element of surprise.
