hey everyone! In April of this year, I underwent surgery to fix my deviated septum. During the consultation process, my surgeon offered to fix my philtrum piercing scar that you may be used to seeing on my upper lip! Today I want to explain the process of having my scar revision, and the healing process that isn't as easy as I originally thought. As well as the price and aftercare.

Thank you so, so much for making this video, especially in a way that's so in depth and honest. I've been debating whether or not to get a philtrum piercing for years (still might to be honest) and the scar is the only thing that has held me back. In the back of my mind I always thought that if I get it and decide to remove it later I can just get it "stitched up" and it'll disappear, but it was refreshing and eye opening to see someone's real experience and seeing that it's not smooth sailing and simple for everyone, that the experience is case by case. Finding specific information on the procedure, healing and aftercare in itself is difficult online, let alone having an honest conversation about personal growth and the fact it's normal and healthy for our styles and taste to change as we grow. Everytime I retire a piercing somebody chimes in with "I toooold you you'd regret the metal in your face" comment and it's refreshing to be able to see you, who at one point was a body modification icon in my eyes, have open honest dialog on the fact that it's okay to change and that while it can be an odd process to accept for some, it doesn't make modification choices we've made in the past any less valid or important, especially regarding looking back on our journey through finding our own identities. Wish you nothing but the best for the future!

Fair warning about these piercings is THEY HURT everyone I know with a Medusa (including myself) didn't expect it to hurt as much as it does. But the pain subsides quickly and all you have to worry about is the swelling

I appreciated Villonious’ little guest spot. The upper lip is full of muscle and the philtrum is actually the center line where the face forms together in fetal development, which is a big reason it is full of nerves (and so painful to pluck/wax). It was a good call to have a medical professional do it. It could probably be done by cutting out that little scar tube like they do with ears but having a plastic surgeon do it gives you better odds for having it heal up and look as close to normal as possible.

I also like how they didn't try to make her nose look like all the other standard plastic surgery enhanced noses just because they were already in there. It still very much looks like her nose but works a lot better now. They only did what was necessary and I like that.

Ugh me tooooo….it’s like I can feel the pain myself in whatever area is being worked on and my thighs end up being so sore likely from unconsciously clenching.
I used to have such a strong stomach for things and would tease my dad for not being able to handle seeing blood and stuff to the point where even someone pretending to get a routine IV on a tv show would make him wince and not be able to watch, but now that I’m in my 30s I’m the same way! Not AS bad, but definitely enough to where it causes issues because my physical disability means lots of surgeries and I can barely handle looking at myself during the healing process anymore lmao. Even watching the “piercing fail” type videos are a total no go now…crazy how things change as we age!

I have scarring in this area from falling on my face and it started out very raised and red. Over the years after massaging it at home and receiving microcurrent services by an esthetician it has flattened quite a bit and while it is noticeable to me, I don’t think strangers realize it’s there. I was told that the effects of the microcurrents are not permanent but I stopped the treatments about a year ago and the appearance of the scarring has improved, if anything. The color now almost matches the rest of my skin and is fairly flat. I think with time and the right treatment you will see the results you want.
I appreciate your candor in this video!

The scar will definitely become more flesh tone over time, and doing the massages on the outside will help break up the tissue. Also, once it's completely healed, you can see a dermatologist about getting the scar injected with steroids. I've had it done to old self-injury scars and it's really helped soften them.

You only paid half of what I did, and the plastic surgeon I went to was NOT a reconstruction specialist. Your experience and recovery sounds a lot more severe than mine. It took 2 years to not see my scar post-surgery.

I remember when I first watched your videos I was so in awe of the scar you had above your lip - I even got myself a medusa piercing, though at a 16 gauge. I stretched it a size or two but that's it. I enjoyed it for a while, and then removed the piercing and was so happy with the lil scar above my lip. Who knows, maybe I too will one day have the scar closed up, but for now I'm happy with it. I can definitely see how the unwarranted comments would get exhausting over time.

I know it’s a long haul thing, but just saying, I had a large ball of scar tissue in my ear lobe for years from a dog splitting my ear by ripping a piercing. I got cortisol shots in it and it stopped it from growing, but it was still really hard. I started getting in the habit of massaging it really, really hard while watching TV and it hurt like hell at first but it got better each time and eventually got back to feeling like normal tissue. I think yours will soften with time too.

I have a face scar from a cat bite and they advised me post surgery to massage my scars! I can't recommend doing it while watching TV/ TH-cam more, made a huge difference to my face scars, both the visibility and the movement of my cheek. Also the gel stuff helps the visibility a lot!

I had physical therapy for the first time ever last year.
They said the same thing about scar tissue in my knee.
    It was so incredibly painful.
    I feel you.

I just can’t stop crying I need scar revision surgery but I’m so scared and unsure if it’s worth it. I been through so much disappointment and the plastic surgeon I had made one of my scars worse and hasn’t even cared to check the outcome

Omg I also had a stitch left in my face and had to pull it out myself. This was after a mole removal though, low key satisfying

it looks like your range of motion in your mouth area improved a lot! keep doing the physical therapy until you can get full range of emotes back. theres nothing worse than not being able to make a face lol

Beautifully honest video! I don't currently have any mods but am very interested in the topic. it's so useful/informative to be able to find videos like this. Re: The surgery. I had a 6-7 hour surgery on my elbow. The first thing I said when I woke up was "You need to change your anesthesia mask it smells disgusting", the attendant with me told me that everyone says that and apparently the anesthetic makes your breath smell funky. While I was being put under, the last thing I said was "I DONT WANT TO DO THIS!!!!". It is terrifying being in such a vulnerable position.... When I woke up, I was weeping from a small 2"-3" incision and the nurse insisted on keeping me there until I was completely comfortable. She called the Doctor several times and was amazing, I was so lucky to have her. Post surgery pain is really difficult to deal with and no one tells you how important It is to have someone with you at all times. You will get through it, but fluck is it hard!

Has your esthetician suggested micro needling to help the scar fade. I've heard it helps a lot.

    • @merrimankaylynn
      @merrimankaylynn 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yes as an esthetician I was also going to say this. Micro needling works wonders for scar tissue. Even using a retional on that area could speed up the more superficial scar tissue ontop
