Ghast Will you do a video on Seliph as well? I feel like he doesn’t get enough attention in the fandom, despite being one of the more interesting and layered fe lords to date. Would be nice to see your take on him!
Ghast Excuse me Ghast. Can I ask for advice? I’m making my own game right now and i plan adding a mix of nods to fire emblem with new things. Are there any things you personally want in a fire emblem game?
Part of me hopes that Reinhardt's overwhelming popularity in Heroes has increased the chances of a Tharacia Echoes remake. From what I've heard and seen of him, I really like him as a character too, and this Support Science did a great job of giving me an even better understanding of his character, really good video! Another part of me also hopes than in said remake, he'd reference "magic is everything" in his dialogue. maybe in a boss quote or something.
Not gonna lie, though i always loved thracia ever since i played it at some point between awakening/fates, never had i hoped more for a remake than now, where especially he himself has become one of the most recognizable faces of the most accessible FE game ever.
Is he really "popular" though? Most of the things I see about him are "lol small hands", "he's so op", "magic is everything". Granted it shows the power of memes, and I've seen people who genuinely like him. I'm just confused why people keep saying he's popular when it seems like he's mostly popular because of memes (I.e. Roy, sadly).
It certainly depends on how you define "popular". And especially Dorcas proves the power of popularity through memes. In his japanese lines he doesnt reference mutton at all, or how he doesnt trust anyone. Because that doesnt fit his character and is really only a callback to the meme created through the ad. Who would honestly vote for Dorcas to get into heroes on value of his character alone? Who would even vividly remember Dorcas even after their first playthrough of FE7 like the lords or actually great characters gameplaywise or anyone who has more storyrelevance than one short dialogue? Sure some people like him unironically, and i would consider myself one of them (especially his support with Geitz is amazing in my opinion), but its all just mutton-memes about him really. And sure its one step to get enough recognition to get into Heroes as a singular character, compared to a full remake of a game, but Reinhardts popularity, even if most of it stems from memes, is honestly pretty hard to deny, especially if you take stuff like the CYLs into account. Reinhardt didnt become #5 in the Mans Division out of nowhere. Back in the first CYL even Kempf ranked above Reinhardt (place 557 vs 584). How different is general popularity compared to popularity through memes really and how to distinguish between it? Is a character really popular if he gets talked about a lot, even if its just memes? Thats a really interesting question honestly.
I’m pretty sure FE5 would get a remake even if Reinhardt never became popular but I think this raises the chance of him becoming playable or a more major villain in the remake.
Or Leif just warp skipped the chapter and left him and his unit sitting there awkwardly. "Sir, Cowen has been defeated and prince Leif has entered the fortress alone. What should we do?" "Damn. They won. Guess we should just go home then." "But sir! He warped here by himself. Our unit is completely undamaged and he's been separated from all his forces." "You just don't get it. He won. He got to the castle and conquered it. We lost. That's how battle works."
Normally, I'll just put support sciences in the background and listen like it's a podcast, but the editing and visual flair in this one is too good to not watch like a normal video!
Elite Venomoth I do that with most videos too! But I decided to give this a proper watch and I can only say that I’m genuinely surprised. Amazing video!
*Hozu S* It makes me wonder if that was done intentionally. Seems like a somewhat fitting end for his story. Reinhardt losing his shit after all that has happened.
This video is godlike. Very informative and fascinating. The script was well written, the narration was delivered with good pace and the editing was on-point. What can I say other than I absolutely loved it! Even if the games are really old and the translations available are mediocre, the Jugdral duology has some of the best storytelling in the franchise. Reinhardt is just one character among many that showcases that greatness.
6:44 I read a theory somewhere that the reason Reinhardt gave Olwen the blessed sword was the from weight of all the terrible things Friega had done with kidnapping children & the like finally hitting him in the moment Olwen rejected him. It's not that he feels depressed & wants to die, but he knows that he's too far gone to simply switch sides at this point & cant bring himself to harm Ishtar or Saias. He recognizes Leif is in the right, & gives him a tool & the opportunity to make things right.
That's all of the Camus archetypes. Ishtar Selena from FE8, Murdock and Galle from FE6 and Camus(Not "Zeke" Camus from FE15, he was the Lorenz archetype) himself, were too loyal to change sides.
I guess magic wasn't everything I now see that line as a mask Him lying to himself about how he feels Desperately trying to leave his feelings aside and just becomes the empire's perfect soldier He even gives up the only thing that reminds him of the woman he loved but couldn't love him back Maybe he did want to die a bit at that moment He had become nothing but a pawn for the empire Even his subordinates had hope in his eyes before death Not him He just felt empty
TheCOOKIECHEESEMAN Indeed. Though I'd also like to see Support Sciences for Saias and Raydrik, I feel like if there's another Thracia character that deserves this kind of spotlight, it's Sara. Her character is so mystifying, adorable, and yet horribly tragic.
Finally, some accurate representation of Reinhardt. I wish this character wasn't brought down to just "Magic is Everything". He's a horrifying, yet oddly human and saddening character. He boasts an "evil character that i can't help but hate, yet feel bad for" sort of personality. It's a compelling personality that, all things considered, makes him so much more interesting than at face value. He's an enemy with immense power who fights for his people and loved ones, just like Leif and Seliph. He's not evil for the sake of being evil, but for the love of who he cares about. Given different situations and emotions, he could've been so much more than he already was.
@@logandelaharpe6362 He willingly turns a blind eye to the child hunts, whereas Olwen and Fred immediately defect upon learning that they're going on. One of his Camus counterparts in FE4, Ishtar, though still a part of the empire takes steps to actively help children caught in the hunts alongside Arvis, despite the immense personal danger of going against Julius, who's extremely possessive of her and controlling. When compared to them, Reinhardt is guilty of extreme moral failing and for all his power he lacks thr courage and willingness to do the right thing. Olwen's ending even notes how pathetic she finds him for the rest of her life. Of course, even if he's an awful person he's a fascinating character.
"The only thing necessary for the Triumph of Evil is for good men to do nothing" I feel like that fits Reinhardt after watching this video. He's a good man with a good moral compass, but he ultimately failed because he was unable to act against his Dukedom.
Man...this video comes *REALLY* close to becoming my favorite Support Science. The scripting, pace and the on point description of Reinhardt's character and lore really puts this one up there in ranking. While I still prefer the Xander and Nyx SS's (the former because I believe it still is your overall best one, and the latter because Nyx is my favorite Fate's character and the Science did it's best to reaffirm exactly why I liked her in a more easily describable form), this is without a doubt solidly in third place. Edit: Can't help but mention that at 10:10 , the way the units are positioned reminds me a lot of Grand Conquest and it is honestly pretty funny.

@@MaskJackal100 Seconded, the guy deserves a chance to take a load off for once. Winter units are coming soon, so... Maybe Santa Reinhardt? Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reinhardt?
I already unironically liked him thanks to Thracia way before Heroes was a thing due to how absolutely insane he was if you didnt warpskip the river (for some reason) and the way he was talked about in the story by others and how he acted himself. also i love how even a somewhat nerfed version of himself combatwise completly tore heroes apart, especially for the Thracia representation since he was pretty much the only one before Leafs banner that you'd come across anywhere meta-wise. (Wouldve loved if his Sword version had high speed instead, reflecting how the Dire Thunder weighs him down hard in thracia with how magical weight ignores build, yet with the Meisterschwert he was still making use of his pretty amazing base speed) Thanks for making this video! :)
FloPe97 Warpskip him? You mean sending your most OP unit to get rid of Saias, using a Berserk staff on Reinhardt and laughing maniacally as he wrecks the shit out of his own army?
Lmao. Was it ever translated as Freega? I've always known it as Freege. At this point Jugdral names have fluctuated so much that i've given up on keeping up lol.
I think it is pronounced "free-gah" since Friege seems to be based on German, like Meisterschwert (German for "master sword") and in German all Gs are pronounced as hard Gs
I haven't watched your support science videos in a long time, but I have to say that this is easily my favorite yet. Although your older ones are still good, one thing that turned me off from some of them is that they were just too long. I felt like they dragged on, but other than that, I really liked them. This was a very nice length, however, and another very nice touch is that I can notice the editing has improved vastly! It wasn't bad before or anything, but the editing this time was so clean, I really liked it. I can easily say that I'm once again looking forward to future support science videos and good job with this one! :)
Once again a majestic Support Sciene you created for us, Ghast. Too bad we couldn't follow your journey through FE5. A shoutout to your german, quite impressive (the german here approves). Keep up the phenomenal work.
Bit of a nitpick, but PCC only activates on double attacks based on Speed, not double attacks due to brave weapons and Adept. Since tome weight is applied no matter the user's Build, Reinhardt cannot have his PCC activate while using Dire Thunder since his AS with it is 2 and the doubling threshold in Thracia is +4 AS. He would probably crit someone with the Master Sword though so you got that.
What I like about Reinhardt (and this is a problem I have with most Camus archetypes) is that while the game gives him understandable motives, it rips into his supposed honor more than most FE games. Olwen's ending put it best: "She burned with anger when she thought about her pitiful brother." Not tragic or misguided -- pitiful.
This is absolutely incredible. I love the way you present Reinhardt in a light that perfectly reflects the games themes and tone. Now, if you could do this with Leif or Finn...
To me, Reinhardt is the most hardcore Camus out there. Camus survived his battle in FE 1, and Eldigan switched sides last minute to help his sister. But Reinhardt? His life crashes on him and he fights to the Freigen death! What a guy!
This feels like a pinnacle but because I know it's Ghast I know these videos will only get better and that makes me super excited for the next support science.
This might be my favorite support science. Since you've enjoyed Thracia so much, why not one for Leif? I think his story is interesting compared to Seliph's because of his lack of holy blood and growth as a leader.
Thanks for this amazing video! Never played Thracia 776, but I already liked Reinhardt in Heroes (and, of course, his memes too), but now I will see him in a new light. I never imagined he was a really deep character. Again, impressive video!
I know this is kind of late, but I wanted to say thank you for giving one of my favorite Camus archetypes justice. I've always admired Reinhardt as a warrior and in the way they portray him in Thracia 776. This was my first Fire Emblem game and I absolutely love it.
Reinhardt has to die If there is a remake, he cannot live. I also hope the next FE has characters with as much thought put into them, in comparison to the first two 3DS titles
I'd love to eventually play Thracia 776 and the rest of the older FE games. Awesome video! The summary of events throughout was well done for those of us who haven't played the game yet.
I would love to see a Support Science on Libra, because I find his character absolutely fascinating, and he just came out in Heroes. I know you said you aren't particularly interested in most of Awakening's cast, but Libra's backstory is tragic and his philosophy is fascinating. I'd love to see an analysis of his character so that I can see less of "lulz lucius part 2 he's a trap." As for this Support Science, I never really looked into Reinhardt (because I like Olwen better personally), but I enjoyed watching. You never fail to draw me in with these videos.
Wow, this was so awesome to watch. As someone who loves FE4 but has had a hard time getting into FE5, this is the kick in the pants I needed to give it another try. (It also makes me really want a This is What Happens is FE4&5)
Yo dude! I just watched your video and I pulled Swordhardt inmediately! 2 birds for one, a nice, entertaining and educational video about one of my favorite FE characters and THAT character (which I hadn't pulled before). Keep doing such a good job!
I wondered why this was so short compared to other Support Science videos...and then I realized it's because Reinhardt is an NPC and thus has no support conversations. LOL. I'd be fine with more analyses of NPC characters like this one. Keep up the good work! Your Support Science video essays are one of my favorite things I've ever seen on TH-cam!
In FE4 chapter 8, Ishtar comes out with her holy weapon to attack Seliph's army. Upon her defeat, Julius warps in, and takes her away from the battlefield. Now if you mean visually, uh... heh heh.
Your video shows that Reinhardt would make himself the Black Knight of the Thracia 776 portion, a Lu Bu to his own installment, the spotlight antagonist that can even obscure everyone else from the entire game, and yet he is still just a minor boss. Curse you IS with your bait and switch writing. Now i understand why he got added to Heroes early on.
Reinhardt in heroes has a line somewhat like "I will continue to stand by you, no matter the circumstance." I think that is him making up for letting Ishtar go.
Cool video. Glad it showed up in my recommended. Admittedly I never played any of the Thracia games and my first exposure to Reinhardt was from Heroes, but he's currently one of my favorite characters and on my main team (a cavalry team). Interestingly I did not know at first how outright powerful and overused he ended up being. He was just one of my first units and I needed a blue guy to finish out my roster. xD
God dammit. Now i feel bad for foddering his copies over to other units... Welp, guess i'll give him more attention regardless, he deserves that much atleast ;_;
Arvis's plans? Master plan? Arvis did nothing in Gen 2, the only thing he had plans for was Gen 1 of FE4 to create a world free of injustices and inequities. Gen 2 of FE4/FE5 was the doing of the Loptyr Church. I don't know why so many people think he's the man behind everything, Lewyn even admitted that the empire was great until it changed all of a sudden, which was when Manfroy gave Julius the Book of Loptous. Arvis himself opposed everything going in Gen 2/FE5, even in Arvis's final moments he worked with Ishtar to free the children captured from the child hunts
He went down in two crits from Oswain. It was super anticlimactic. I was like, "That's it? No retreat for a final showdown later? You're just... dead? Okay."
So good to have a little more perspective on Reinhardt and not just Nimious' constant loathing for the guy lol. I love that guy but once he forms an opinion, he just digs his heels in.
If a Thracia 776 remake were to come out, it would be interesting if Reinhardt becomes a playable character either as a secret recruitable(akin RD Pelleas/Lehran), post-game trial maps(like Sacred Stones' CC), or the game's Gotoh archetype if you spare him(Ik Galzus fills that role somewhat but what I mean is that he joins only in the last chapter to fight Veld)

I hear "Freakin" every time you say "Friegan" and I'm 95% sure you realized it when you said "He is the strongest Friegan soldier in the army"

Dude, he was correcting something in a polite way. Get out of here and learn some manners
Edgar Garcia I wasn’t being serious :P
Nah we're actually friends.
I loved the heroes sprite things in this video
What I like about Reinhardt (and this is a problem I have with most Camus archetypes) is that while the game gives him understandable motives, it rips into his supposed honor more than most FE games. Olwen's ending put it best: "She burned with anger when she thought about her pitiful brother." Not tragic or misguided -- pitiful.
That was awesome! So glad i finally got to watch through this bro.
What a guy!
Ever wonder why Selena became a Mage Knight?
It was to emulate this absolute _badass._
I honestly didnt expect this video, a nice surprice indeed
This feels like a pinnacle but because I know it's Ghast I know these videos will only get better and that makes me super excited for the next support science.
I am crying. this is very well done, I applaud to you good sir for making this video about Reinhardt.
if the jugdral games get a remake reinhardt's popularity will skyrocket
whenever "freegean" is said, i hear "frigging"
I’d love to see a support science on bartre. He’s got a lot really good supports in both games that really show he has a lot of depth.
"Because people understand Freege about as well as Tharja understands good parenting, that is to say, barely" IM CRYINGGGG
While the Eliwood and Celica support sciences are my personal favorite, this is a really good support science as well. Good job Ghast!
This might be my favorite support science. Since you've enjoyed Thracia so much, why not one for Leif? I think his story is interesting compared to Seliph's because of his lack of holy blood and growth as a leader.
Get ready for Swordhardt refine in feh.
God this video still holds up incredibly well. I legit get goosebumps
The true memelord of Fe, Dorkas and Oliver never stood a chance against him.
Alright alright alright...
I’m just gunna spitball here...
...but Reinhardt for Robin’s Echo Fighter in Super Smash Bros Ultimate
Just a random thought, but I would love to see him moded over robin. Quick! To the people who makes mods! Make it happen lol
It’s finally here!
I love these Ghast! I love hearing your analysis on famous characters like Reinhardt on a deeper level!
Reinhardt has to die
If there is a remake, he cannot live.
I also hope the next FE has characters with as much thought put into them, in comparison to the first two 3DS titles
You didnt even have to kill him in the original irrational hate
This is definitely one of my favorites it’s cool how you do not only use stuff from thracia but also heroes
I'd love to see an analysis of his character so that I can see less of "lulz lucius part 2 he's a trap."
As for this Support Science, I never really looked into Reinhardt (because I like Olwen better personally), but I enjoyed watching. You never fail to draw me in with these videos.
I want an ambitious HD remake of the Jugdral storyline (both Genealogy and 776)
.

.
and I want it to as punishingly hard as the original games
FE4 is hilariously easy though. As for Thracia its isnt actually that hard, it just has a problem with not telling you anything.
Wow, this was so awesome to watch. As someone who loves FE4 but has had a hard time getting into FE5, this is the kick in the pants I needed to give it another try.
(It also makes me really want a This is What Happens is FE4&5)
I liked how you used and animated the art of the other characters to demonstrate the story.
Please, please nintendo, give us a remake for the beautiful man!!!
Yo dude! I just watched your video and I pulled Swordhardt inmediately! 2 birds for one, a nice, entertaining and educational video about one of my favorite FE characters and THAT character (which I hadn't pulled before). Keep doing such a good job!
He's my favourite character from a game I have never played...actually second favourite, I like his sister more but that dude is awesome!
I love how good the pacing was in this episode. Soooo nice
Thank you! This support science made me want to play Tharcia 776 and Geneology Of The Holy War
This is a very good video, I had wanted to know more about this guy seeing him so much in Hereos
The reason he lost to Leif was because he didn't have quickend pulse and moonbow.
*, TF?rururu*
lemme get that for you.
_coma_ THEFUCK? *sound of car engine starting*
once again, a great video. love the little animations in the middle
oh. I was not expecting this, but I love it. bless you Ghast
I'm holding back tears, this video is so powerful.
This was very enjoyable to watch. Thanks for making this!
4:07 Wait, what the heck are Seliph and Ishtar doing up there?
"History obliterates, and every picture it paints, it paints me and all my mistakes."
He was just one of my first units and I needed a blue guy to finish out my roster. xD
God dammit. Now i feel bad for foddering his copies over to other units... Welp, guess i'll give him more attention regardless, he deserves that much atleast ;_;
For most people, having them join a rival country, after leaving their home country, is understandably difficult.
I love support Science! so good!
8:01 Behold, the superior Erin Fitgerald line. I miss her ;(
Arvis's plans?
Damn, I wish the pronunciation of freege and tordo being thrud wasn't made canon by heroes...
I pulled WT Reinhardt just a couple of days ago so this came at a damn good time
Rename this video: Reinhardt, the man, the legend, the god.
Blade Master Over drive I second that
He went down in two crits from Oswain. It was super anticlimactic. I was like, "That's it? No retreat for a final showdown later? You're just... dead? Okay."
it gives more impact if you only face him once. the Death Knight is a joke because he appears so many times yet Reinhardt is different.
@@776Mine It really didn't have much impact on me because Reinhardt only appears twice and the rest is just lipservice from other bosses.
@@Austin_Schulz eh, probably.
Freege was unprepared to sacrifice children to that dark god. They lost their spirit, losing was their fate.
It's here! I've been looking forward to this one.
Ishtar,Olwen and my pride as a solider are EVERYTHING!
