I think you've got it mixed up with the scoped storage update in V63 which made it so that apps can't access other apps data folders and requiring using a PC with ADB to access app data and it was a big deal because the Quest is a standalone headset and not everyone has a computer to use ADB with to manage the files but basically the update made it so that apps can't access the data folder of other apps anymore.

One of Meta's main issues is that what they have is a gaming device, and they are trying to make you think its something else for some reason. It is already hard enough to convince gamers to put on a VR headset so seeing random sports influencers wearing them to workout and someone sitting on their couch scrolling on Instagram inside the Quest 3 is not helping Meta's case. If it was looked at the same way as an Xbox there wouldn't be a whole video about how big of an issue it is that you can't get 2D phone apps on it. Meta needs to revamp their entire marketing strategy and start trying to appeal to the demographic of gaming. They are trying to target everyone with an already niche product and many people don't even know what great games are available because they don't market them at all.
I agree that it seems like gaming has been less of a push in their marketing stuff the past year. I honestly think that's a good thing though and even good for gaming! Gamers know about VR. Imagine it was that way for VR and mixed reality, where it appealed to so many more people as the technology got smaller and even into glasses form. Imagine if people used MR glasses like phones and VR headsets like computers in the way that one is for out and about and the other one is for being in one location and focusing. Not only would so many more people enjoy this amazing technology that we love, but so many more people would have access to the games that we love as well! The games that are so, so good, but people just aren't willing to invest that money into a gaming headset. Vr is sorta failing because of the lack of pcvr games (which is still the primary market for vr) . Games need to feel immersive, and standalone games with ps2 level graphics wont help that
As amazing as that is, the cost of entry is just way too high. I'm such an enthusiast that I started a TH-cam channel about the technology and I've never been able to afford a gaming PC. There are so many like me that can't afford it or just aren't willing to make that investment, even if the quality is so much better
Not anymore, the primary market has been the quest for a while, even studios aknowledge this. The money is in standalone quest because they have the biggest number of users. Even on steam VR the most used headset is the quest 2, and most people don't use their quest on PCVR but standalone, so just imagine how much more people on standalone there are compared to pcvr.
That's all true but I feel like there is enough people on pcvr too be able to actually support successful projects enough to where they are financially successful. I don't know much people who would buy a quest over an actual consol/PC, so I can assume a large amount of people already can afford one. Everyone i know got a vr for a specific pcvr only game, and the games that are releasing on standalone nobody buys because like I said they are like ps2 games. So, really, I do see it this pragmatic: If this single step won't be taken, then I for myself have the confirmation to even sell my Vive Pro, because in the end nobody's really giving a sht and the important people lost interest halfway through. It's the small things, that show intention. Just think about it for a second. We don't even need those apps that hard, but we do need the plain inclusion that comes with it. And we need it everywhere asap, would have been better ready yesteryear.
@@David-eg6sd That's really well said. It honestly kind of reminds me of the early days of phones where it felt like it was the wild West and everyone was trying new and different things to try to figure out what worked. On one hand that era was much more fun. On the other hand that era was also much less useful than it is today. I figure we'll see things becoming more streamlined and much more feature parody as we go. There's just no telling who's going to be the ones standing in the end
Apk pure - meta edition. I imagine they would get in trouble if they created something like that
Yeeeaaaahhh that was a concern I had, but I can dream 😅
@@evrynameis_takn But... Imagine having a tiny battery powered windows 11 or android/linux computer or something attached to the quest using the new HDMI link, you could get your extra apps that way.
@@c6jones720 Oh it sure is a thing. I am not encouraging it but theres a certain subreddit that you can find that will point you to a PC app to pirate Quest games. It's been an open secret in the community for years.
I'm on V69 and can still sideload apps. What build are you on? Do you have dev settings enabled?
@@brianc3271 I do and it's on v69. They lost the feature several updates ago and Luna mentioned it as well along with people from Meta commenting on it and clarifying that it was an issue with an update to Android. What method are you using to get apks running? I wonder if you're somehow a lucky one or if maybe it was quietly fixed in the background recently. I'm trying not to get too excited yet 😅
@@evrynameis_takn I can download off of the Arora store, Aptoide and apk pure. No problems at all. I will try to install an APK fresh from the web browser later today, just to be sure. But I have been downloading APKs no problem for the past couple of weeks. I would have definitely jumped to an apple vision pro by now if I couldn't use APKs on my quest.

umm? I still install updates from sidequest what update breaks sidequest?
It doesn't break side quest or using a computer but it broke the ability to download apps onto the headset and install them

Standalone needs a lot of time to catch up graphically to be viable
Ima real one!

This is incorrect. You have always been able to side load apks.
@@FinlessBob You're right and you can with a computer but I didn't specify that I was discussing what the Quest can do without extra hardware now that scoped storage was removed. I definitely should have thought about that. My point remains though, that if there isn't an easy way for people to download their apps on their headset, with their headset, then it could be a big weakness for the Quest moving forward.
I really appreciate you fact checking me, and making sure I'm clear with y'all!
You can side load directly I have videos explaining how
@@evrynameis_takn And you still can. You install Mobile VR station and a file manager. VR station will allow you to give permission to the file manager to install apps and even write to OOB folder etc. A google search or youtube search for "quest scoped storage" would have shown you the work around. And now this issue is old. V68 fixed this and it still works on PTC V69.

wich mic is that?
It's a maybesta. The full name is in the description. I found it on a, "best budget mics for TH-cam" kind of video lol
What? Lol. I use my VR for everything. I've almost completely stopped using my phone and my pc all together.
You can put any android app on the Meta Quest 3. Lmao.
VR isn't mainstream yet, it's not for the faint of heart, but you can do pretty much anything you want if you look into how you do it.
Apple isn't comparable to Meta lol.
They have completely different reasons for existing. There's no controllers or games for the Apple headset.
I have been working exclusively in my Meta Quest for a couple months now.
Android could just take a cut of money from anything from Meta. So that arguement they wouldn't put it on. It just doesn't make sense.
Sales are increasing in VR, not decreasing lmao.
Im able to use Tik Tok among other apps. Including discord with full video calling man. 😂😂😂
@@RagnarokGriffin I love to hear how you've been using it! That's pretty much how I've been with my school work.
The part I didn't think to say in the video until after it was posted already was that if you use a PC you can download some of these apps onto the PC and transfer them to the Quest, but most people, not the enthusiasts like us, but the average user would never go through all that work. And if meta wants us to be a standalone headset it should be able to do things like this on its own without extra hardware.
And you're right, this isn't mainstream yet, but it's been getting there very quickly and as we look at Apple releasing a cheaper headset in a couple of years, Google and Samsung releasing a headset in a month and a half more than likely with the Play Store and all of your apps on it, mixed reality glasses being very near, and the way the space is developing super quickly, it's at the beginning of becoming mainstream. The problem is that the billions of people who aren't enthusiasts, who met a specifically wants to buy their products as they try to make it more mainstream, those people will not go to a platform that doesn't have access to the apps they use.
Even when using extra hardware other than my standalone headset to transfer files over, I can't use Snapchat to message my wife like I usually would. I can't use Google apps at all because there's no Google Play service, I can't use Fitbit, my apps don't sync back and forth with my phone. There's way too many hangups for normal people to start adopting this technology.
And normal people adopting this technology is the whole reason why meta has spent crazy money on this. And if normal people don't join us on Meta's platforms then Meta won't make that money back and we'll start to fall behind
@@evrynameis_takn I couldn't agree more really. i setup my PC as a docking station. I connect wirelessly. Wireless keyboard and mouse for programming and school. So zI usually have four active windows/monitors. More and my ADHD goes on a rampage lmao.
When it comes to gaming. I pretty much stopped flat screen. I will convert or play vr, but i'm advocating VR to be integrated to the medical field. As well
as more online games. such as Warframe.
I hope upon completing school to work on improving vr and AI.
For now. I just try to tweak and integrate.
I'm working on motion control for dying Light 1 now,
Currently snuggling my wife playing on VR in bed lmao:!!!
@@RagnarokGriffin you're living the freaking life!! 😂 You're an enthusiast if I've ever seen one! If you got to choose, what kind of VR and AI work would you do?
@evrynameis_takn I do believe it's the future. Perhaps not in the exact way some of us may imagine. But I believe one day it'll be one style of device. Perhaps glasses or optionally a type of contacts.
I would really like to work on games, but that's a rough industry right now to dip into.
So I would more likely opt in for it being a medical field of some type.
Since the discovery of access to the outer cameras being accessed and able to identify objects pointed at. That alone could help millions with vision impairment. I wouldn't mind creating an AI that would more easily identify, or warn users of close objects/holes or other various dangerous environmental hazards. Or some sort of stimulated training software.
It's kind of hard to say at this point. Considering there's so many open options and near limitless potential.
I also use my headset for various other normal mundane tasks. Such as watching John Wick while washing dishes. Ect. Lol.
I would really go work for Meta I think if possible. I disagree with a lot, but I think overall is the right idea.
Hand tracking could be slightly modified to those who may have lost a limb, or other disabilities in order to allow them to engage in games, or entertainment, work, or any other ideas they may need to realize.
I can't wait until it hits mainstream and we can see some really crazy ideas come to life.
