First thing I did was sign up for a CrossFit class once I retired at 55. Yes, it is a bit costly, $200 per month as opposed to $40 for a regular gym but it is the BEST investment. Coming off of a desk job I was so out of shape that I knew I needed this right away. I am amazed at how much my body is changing. You two defiinitely hit the nail on the head with the Intentional Living segment. Too many people drift through through life and / or retirement with sort of a random approach, and then wonder they are not happy or fulfilled. The intentional approach is the polar opposite. After all, we only get one "go round" in this life so we have to be intentional and make the most of what we've been blessed with !
At 20 i was reading into marriage at 30 into fulfilled life and here in my mid 40’s into retirement 😅I’ve lived out all my dreams and hope to continue. Retiring contempt being part of it. Great video.
I am 56 and almost retired 1 full year. I am getting bored, now I must find ways to fill my time. My husband is also 56 but must work still work for another 6 years. ONE SUGGESTION I HAVE IS REALLY THINK BEFORE YOU TAKE ON A NEW PET. As a gift to myself I got a Yorkie puppy. He is so cute, and I adore him BUT to be honest I didn't think it through as much as I should have. This little dog will likely be the last pet I take on and I will be around 70 before I am pet free. I just hope that I will still have the ability to continue caring for my pets until their end of life.
Thank you for sharing your thoughtful advice. It's important to carefully consider long-term commitments like pets, especially as we plan for the future. Wishing you and your Yorkie many happy moments together!
Ok….I am 81 and I feel to retire means to give up on life and I determined early that I never would “retire”. I’ve had lots of careers and great jobs and never plan to give up. I have had a business of my own since turning 70…12 years ago. Plus I’m becoming an artist…something I never did when young and having my family ❤️😀. So by taking up drawing and showing my art and by running my pet business I feel young and busy😀. So I would never promote retiring but doing something else and never quit on life…Cheers from an American in Australia ❤️
Your spirit and determination are truly inspiring! 🌟 It’s amazing how you’ve embraced new passions and kept yourself vibrant and engaged through your art and business. It’s clear that you’re living life to the fullest and making the most of every moment. Cheers to your incredible journey and the joy you’re bringing to both yourself and those around you! ❤️🎨🐾

I am single living in a new neighborhood. Need to get out and get social. Love your positive talk about routines (I need to work on that) just joined a gym and have my first grandchild! Hi folks . Some of the tips you've been giving are helpful as I've been practicing that myself for years like Journaling, playing my instrument and talking with other people. Most of the times spent on Bible' study and praying 🙏 😊. Greetings from Philippines
This video is so nice, For years I have tried these suggestion and I sabotaged them by living fast pace. Only now I am gradually adopting this way of life. It is a joy to simplify and make life as comfortable as it can be.
We opened a separate joint checking account and put a couple years worth of cash in it. Then I put every bill I could on auto pay. I put all my bills in email and don’t get any bills in the mail. I’m aware of what’s going out but I really don’t stay on top of each bill any longer. This gives me/us so much freedom and comfort each day that I really don’t give the bills any concerns and allows us to concentrate on other things.
I believe planning, structure, and routine are beneficial for all stages of life. It is so easy to get distracted and overwhelmed, then nothing meaningful gets accomplished. We get to the end of the day/week/year and wonder where the time went and what we did with our time.
I am 69 years old and a recording engineer .I think I am 22 years old with 47 years of experience.I have my own studio. All my children are well settled.I have a passive income by which after all my expenses can save about 1000 us dollars. We are staying in India. But I still work.Exercise daily.Have visited 15 places abroad and 170 places in India.I am a voracious learner.Never say die and never retire.
This guide is so helpful! Simplifying retirement planning can really make a difference in our peace of mind. Thank you for sharing these actionable tips!
Thank you. We just came back from 12 days in Rwanda. Started and ended in Kigali. We went there for the gorillas, but fell in love with the people. We are better humans for spending time there.
My husband and i have been retired for 1 year now at the end of may. After retirement we were still taking care of and spending time with his father and my mother. His father passed away last Sept 2023 and my mother Feb 2024. We are now purging our home of stuff we don't need and doing some much needed renovations. Our house already feels much better and less cluttered. Soon we will be doing some traveling.
I’m sorry for your losses. Jody and I went through that stage where my mom and dad died within a year of each other then her mom was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. It’s a hard time for sure. I love that you’re decluttering and appreciating the lightness in your home. Thanks for sharing this.
I like your content the problem is I'm 60 now completely exhausted and still have to work another 7 years I don't have a spouse or a partner Makes it super hard when you're doing it alone so unfortunately I can't live a life of leisure LOL I'll probably have to work till I'm dead
Good transformation share / lessons learned. For me, I always use the "3+3 rule" at my yearly spring time declutter task. re: If I move that unused item (like a special shovel) 3 times without using it, then it is NOT needed. If I have an item for 3 years without using it, then is is NOT needed as well. It must be sold / donated as well. Sometimes I use a 5 year "idle timer" but most items are max 3 years timer. You know.... When one is born, they have anothing. When one dies, they have nothing. Thus, reduces down to less items (less tools) near the end of one's life is a good thing..... This works for me...
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences, it gives me direction and insight on how to approach retirement in a positive and meaningful way. This is crucial for all of us to understand what retirement is all about.
You're welcome! We are glad to hear that the shared experiences have been helpful for you. Understanding and approaching retirement positively can make a big difference. Wishing you all the best as you navigate this new chapter with insight and enthusiasm! 🌟😊
Excellent tips! We retired early, so we learned many of these tips through trial and error over the last 20 years. 😅 Now in our early 60s, and we really need to shift more into the simplify phase.
@@RetirementTransformed Thank you! Actually, we made many misjudgments and errors, we didn't plan well, and we didn't focus on projecting the future financial effect of our choices in our 40s. One of us should have worked 2 or 3 more years while our skills were fresh. But about 8 years ago I woke up and started driving our financial bus with an eye toward retirement. Even mid-50s is not too late to make course corrections. I want you to know I am getting a lot of benefit from watching your videos. I often focus on the financial planners' videos, but I realize that your perspective helps me with the vital health and happiness aspects of retirement. Thanks for listening, and you two have a great day!

Good talk! Im six months into my tetirement setting new routines. Soon ill be back to working a little, a coupke days a week. The break has been great, it was a good reset, checking health, nutrition and nany of the things you mention here .😊
Thanks for your comment! It’s great to hear that your break has been a positive reset. It sounds like you’re making wonderful strides with new routines and focusing on health and nutrition. Best of luck as you transition back to working a couple of days a week!
Their personal stories are very helpful, especially for me and my wife...we're in the same situation except not completely retired...this was a well done video.
Great video. As I head toward retirement (Dec 2025), it’s all about simplifying. (1) reducing maintenance on our property so I don’t have to do as much of it when I retire and as I continue to age. From some artificial turf in the backyard (for 20 years I tried to grow grass, in vain) to a heated driveway for winter (I’m in Canada) so I don’t drop dead of a heart attack shovelling snow, to gutter guards etc. I’ve more than halved the annual maintenance time on our property in the last 5 years. (2) decluttering - getting rid of “stuff” we don’t really use anymore. I just gave away an enormous amount of clothes to the Salvation Army - feels good. (3) getting into great physical shape. (4) organizing our finances (everything’s written down, in one place (other than passwords lol). Working on the relationships and hobbies - those are the big ones - but the hobbies include cooking and gardening and general puttering lol
The details information in a form of chitchat is great and help me better understand and learn what's going on. Thank you for adding value to my life and for these wonderful videos.❤😊
There are a lot of things I liked in this video, but I loved maximum was that 'change of language' around using the word worry; Instead of saying that what I am worried about x or y or z, say that what I am thinking of or what concerns me is.....lovely stuff guys. Do you have a place to garden to grow veggies and herbs? Good luck.
Just started packing in advance. Listing my house in the spring & really downsizing. I thought it would be more emotional, but I’m actually looking forward to releasing the responsibilities of taking care of so much…stuff, land, etc.
Yes I have done that this last time. I decluttering everything anything I wasn’t using I got rid of either gave it to somebody or brought it to Goodwill and my budget. It stays the same. I’m not in that and thank God for that. It’s good that she knows how to pay the bills because my husband always said that when he passed away, I didn’t know what was what my friend of 40 years flew out here from Virginia and help me sort everything out so I had my last daughter she got done with college and she went to school and now she’s been married for six years. She’s got two little girls, but I budget my money out every month and save some every month too so I’m doing better than I thought I would’ve been doing at this point always enjoy your videos❤
Thank you for your kind words! We are glad that you found the information helpful. Embracing simplicity can indeed lead to greater happiness and fulfillment.
I did quite the opposite when I turned 60.. I bought a farm house with lots of land and went to live there on my own.. Next year I'll be 70 So I've decided to sell and move on, but guess What!! I'll be moving to another country (Paraguay) and starting a complety new life but this time I'll be joining a community though everyone has their own house and living independenlty, only socializing When you feel like it.
You seem to both have very good communication with one another which I think can make a big difference - especially when a couple retires. My new routine is doing my morning stretches while listening to TH-cam - instead of dog sitting on the couch listening 😜 Working out very well and makes the time fly by 👍
Such a gorgeous couple! We did a home renovation and that forced us to do a major declutter. But there’s always something to give away on an ongoing basis. Impressive you travel ❤ with just a carry-on! That’s amazing.
My wife and I have the exact opposite that you have she just turned 60 and I'm 53 I am the higher income earner. So our retirement strategy is a little different than most. I would like to be able to retire by 59 1/2 I think she'll retire in the next 4 to 5 years. We want to move to South Carolina we like to fossil hunt you feel this will help us stay in shape a little in our older age.
Greetings from Germany. BTW germans are supposed to retire with age of 67 years or 65 (women 4 years earlier) when the most used social assurance retirement system gives the maximum retirement payment, which may be cutted by 1/4 to 1/2 compared with the last payed monthly full time job income. And a earlier retirement is always bounded by shorter retirement payment so few people retire earlier as they can't afford the loss of monthly income.
Thank you so much! 😊 We’re so glad you’re enjoying the topics and discussions-it means a lot to us. Let us know if there’s anything specific you’d like us to cover in the future!
This is great. I like the format that you were thinking out loud. My wife and I are about to retire and we are going through the mental prep. It is not easy to picture beyond the retirement honeymoon, especially when moving from 16 year of expat life halfway around the world. Nonetheless, this is very helpful some of which I can see we will apply.
I retire next week. I have been planning and writing down "what to deal with" when I retire and several things are what you speak of. Yes, the wardrobe is going to be tough for me. The reason though is not that I cannot whittle it down but related to another issue- weight. In the past five years, I have gone through three sizes of clothing, so in effect I have three wardrobes for just me. Sad. Being at my heaviest weight now, I cannot fit into the other two sizes but I do not want to dump the smaller sizes. I have to get to the food plan first! I retired in 2017 from a 31-year teaching career and lost 42 pounds; however when I went back to work the pounds returned. That is the explanation of the five-year size increase. I am looking forward to seeing less of me!
Hello Jodie&Mark, i understand about reels! As a kid my parents had a parakeet. I get lost in the cockatoo&parrot reels! I love birding when we are out hiking. I will be 60 the end of this year. Watching reels has caused me to slow down.
@@RetirementTransformed just understand how time can fly when watching reels. My fav subject is birds. There are cockateils and parrots doing amusing things, dancing as birds do and talking their humans ears off. To me it is very amusing and i can spend hours watching them, which gets me into trouble for not managing my time more appropriately.
Love you guys. I have been living alone and ready to retire. I am trying to figure out what my life would be. My daughter wants me to live close to her and my granddaughter. I am trying to figure out if I should sale my house or rent it out. It would add stress for my retirement if I rent out the house.
Keep thinking about it. Unless there are significant reasons to rush this decision, think more and talk to others as well. Always check out the financial effects of this decision. And yes keeping the house and renting it out while might make financial sense, it could create stress too.
@@RetirementTransformed Hey Mark and Jody, I just turned 70. And my wife is 70, we are both pretty sharp, but your tips were very helpful about decluttering, we went thru all of our important paperwork recently and purged past years. You know I will be retiring in 2 1/2 years, and I'm afraid to. I am an Elementary 1st grade teacher and my day is usually full speed. I do work out on the weekends. I just don't know if I could slow down ...at 63 1/2.

Lol😂
Yes. Talk less.

Thank you @rockingdoubleE. We appreciate all your comments.
At 20 i was reading into marriage at 30 into fulfilled life and here in my mid 40’s into retirement 😅I’ve lived out all my dreams and hope to continue. Retiring contempt being part of it. Great video.
Thanks for sharing!! We are glad you are here.
Yes! It costs as much to board my dog as it costs to fly to visit my daughter -ugh!
I am turning 60 this August and I am glad I watched this video. There is enough scope for me to slow down and make life simpler.
Sounds great. We are glad you enjoyed it.
@@RetirementTransformed thank you so much…I’m filled with gratitude ❤️
May I ask you what type of business did u start at your 70 ies??
@@iriskazanxhi3438 I started and am still doing a pet sitting business…and business is bursting 😀. Thanks

I just retired and I have an incredible desire to purge all of the STUFF I dont use! When my mom passed away we were left with such a mess! I don't want my kids to have such an overwhelming task.❤ BUT...That's way down the road!😂
Pay to have the house emptied.
It's a process. Try tackling just one room or closet. See how that makes you feel. Then do it again to another room. Do one a week or one a month.
I am 44 and I am doing it now.
This video is loaded, thanks for the teaching. It takes a lot of wisdom and resources, watch word should be ADAPTABILITY WITH INDIVIDUALS CURRENT REALITIES. Thanks 🙏👍
Just came across your channel and I love you two and your content! I’m 58 and planning for retirement. Just downsized and dream of retiring and painting my sunrise skies! Just do it Jody! I am single living in a new neighborhood. Need to get out and get social. Love your positive talk about routines (I need to work on that) just joined a gym and have my first grandchild! While working I like to listen to podcasts and yours has so many positive vibes. Thank you Jody and Mark! Cheers!

Hi folks . Some of the tips you've been giving are helpful as I've been practicing that myself for years like Journaling, playing my instrument and talking with other people. Most of the times spent on Bible' study and praying 🙏 😊. Greetings from Philippines
Hi in the Philippines! It sounds like you are living a wonderful life.
This video is so nice, For years I have tried these suggestion and I sabotaged them by living fast pace. Only now I am gradually adopting this way of life. It is a joy to simplify and make life as comfortable as it can be.
This sounds great. Thank you for your comment.
At 60 yrs, intended to moderately manage my small dairy farm to keep me busy and improve liquidity.
That's wonderful. Hard work, but sounds like fun and an active life which is important.
Thank you for sharing this. It’s a great way to simplify part of your finances.
I believe planning, structure, and routine are beneficial for all stages of life. It is so easy to get distracted and overwhelmed, then nothing meaningful gets accomplished. We get to the end of the day/week/year and wonder where the time went and what we did with our time.
Thank you for this. Glad to see your having success.
Thank you two, for giving those valuable tips. Down sizing your belongings is something very important to do. Love from Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 ❤️

Hi! You are a great couple... I am watching from Tanzania-East Africa. You have blessed me much. Will be following you..... ❤
I am 77 yrs- just retired- your retirement ideas are great- Thank you

I like your content the problem is I'm 60 now completely exhausted and still have to work another 7 years I don't have a spouse or a partner Makes it super hard when you're doing it alone so unfortunately I can't live a life of leisure LOL I'll probably have to work till I'm dead
Well I understand you have to work longer but hope for a better outcome for you.
May the LORD God help you. HE does
Good transformation share / lessons learned.
This is great. Thanks for sharing
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences, it gives me direction and insight on how to approach retirement in a positive and meaningful way. This is crucial for all of us to understand what retirement is all about.

It’s been fun. Sometimes I take it a bit too far but we enjoy our time together.
Excellent tips! We retired early, so we learned many of these tips through trial and error over the last 20 years. 😅 Now in our early 60s, and we really need to shift more into the simplify phase.
Thank you for your comment. I’m happy you have been having a great retirement.

WOW. What a great plan. Congratulations and way to go. Your level of success in this phase of life needs a strong plan.
Thank you for sharing your experience. Declutter is huge project, it takes a lots of time. I should start this sooner.
It's never too late to start to declutter! For many it's an ongoing process.
The details information in a form of chitchat is great and help me better understand and learn what's going on. Thank you for adding value to my life and for these wonderful videos.❤😊
You are so welcome.
Good luck.
Love it!
No place to grow veggies ….
Yet!
Just started packing in advance. Listing my house in the spring & really downsizing. I thought it would be more emotional, but I’m actually looking forward to releasing the responsibilities of taking care of so much…stuff, land, etc.
Sounds exciting. Good luck

🎈happy bday🎈 Excellent video, Thank you for the reminders! Making a list of meal prepping helps, less decisions we need to make on a daily basis.
You are so welcome!
Great comment, thank you
Make sure you both know how to log into accounts for banking , bill paying insurance etc.
Yes. We have that taken care of. Thank you

That sounds amazing. I love your ability to pivot like that.
You seem to both have very good communication with one another which I think can make a big difference - especially when a couple retires. My new routine is doing my morning stretches while listening to TH-cam - instead of dog sitting on the couch listening 😜 Working out very well and makes the time fly by 👍
Thank you and congratulations on your morning routine.

Fossil hunt! That's a new one to me and love the idea.
thank you so much for sharing. enjoy God bless
Thank you too
Getting together with the big family and friends more regularly is the best tip for your retirement.
Absolutely!
Thank you from Germany.

I’m glad this was helpful
Yes weight is an issue for most of us. Exercise and good nutrition goes a long way to maintaining and even losing weight.
Brilliant video, folks.
Thank you

Hello Jodie&Mark, i understand about reels! As a kid my parents had a parakeet. I get lost in the cockatoo&parrot reels! I love birding when we are out hiking. I will be 60 the end of this year. Watching reels has caused me to slow down.
Thank you but I did not fully understand your comment.

Hope you guys survived the storm..
