    Great video and thanks for the upload! Is there a way for you to share the 3d scan so we can play along with you on the video? Thanks a ton!

    Is there any way you could put the link to the SLC file that you are using. I am planning on starting a project and would love to have the car configured on the computer before I start work on it.

    Great video! Please show us a tutorial how to create a full car body of a 3d scan file with the retopo tool in alias surface 2021. It would be amazing... 👍

      Kevin R id love to see this too. There’s many scanners and techniques out there. Contextually, I’m a beginner and interested in what it means to gather accurate data and translate that to Alias in G2 or better continuity, for a good foundation of CAD data, what the best tools for that are, then to sub Ds in Alias or Maya for modification and back out to requirements for manufacturing via G2 continuity again.

    How to maintain the deviation from subd surface to mesh data?

    • @kevinr6236
      @kevinr6236  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Currently Retopo snaps the Vertex points to the mesh. The SubD NURBS limit surface will have a deviation when smooth. In some situations, using the CV move to to move the vertex's normal to surface can help match them better. I usually use cross sections to get them dialed in.
      Hopefully they come up with a better solution to the offset and make it automatic. fingers crossed

    Thanks man! it was a great video, very lighthearted and very informative at the same time! I enjoyed!
    one question though, can I set up the retopo tool in a way that only some of my vertices snap to the mesh or whatever is the projection base, and let the others to be free?
    that way you can add or remove some details from the projection base and make various design explorations very effectively.
    were you trying to do the same thing with the nipple example? ;)

    Thanks for the video, awesome content! A simple but useful retopo tools in modo is the spin edge tool (V key by default). When you use that in subd mode you can easily see how edges are flowing and reflow them, and everything remains all quads (if they are already so). Can't download 2021 yet as an edu user, was wondering if something similar has been included in this version?

    • @kevinr6236
      @kevinr6236  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I sent some spin edge tool examples to autodesk when I started deep diving the tools. I was reading a topology book and trying to get my head around controlling flow and the resulting shapes. The spin edge was critical to the authors workflow for characters. If you have or can post an example of a specific "use case" it will be helpful for them to understand the need.

      @wei-paihuang3648 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kevinr6236 Sorry I don't have an example right now but if you do a quick search for "spin edge" on youtube there are quite a few modo and maya tuts that explain how it's used. I remember learning it from some old lightwave tutorial.

      的确SubD的操作很容易让人联想到Modo,对拓扑的操作SubD能更多的吸收一下传统Polygon软件的丰富模式就完美了

      Yes ... Getting better and better in each version.... The best part is... Catia can be a full package... Subd(imagine & shape) , nurb based Class-A(ICEM & free style), class A to plastic convertion (GSD) , Mechanical design (biw,normalcad)....
      The issue is Italian... They don't want to work hard... And learn stuff with... Stepper learning curve 🤣

    Autodesk maya vs autodesk alias..which is best ?

    • @kevinr6236
      @kevinr6236  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alias is the industry standard for automotive class A surfacing. Alias SubD results in a nurbs patch which is good for CAD related work. If your only interested in subd for poly output or rendering then Maya is most likely the best choice.

    • @maplehu9517
      @maplehu9517 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      not a serious replay but fun tip, if you look up for the history of these two software, you'll notice they are basically rised from one source. Even today, if you open the time slider in Alias, it looks quite the same as in Maya

    Why Autodesk hates engineers so much. Ui from 90, and colours that’ll make you blind. Not saying awfully slow adoption of tools from 3D industry.

    • @kevinr6236
      @kevinr6236  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah. The UI is polarizing for alot of newer users. I started using Alias in the 90s and have witnessed people freak out over simple UI changes. Alias has multiple versions of dark mode, I've tried to force myself to use them but when I focus purely on speed, I revert back to the colors programmed in my muscle memory.

      Kevin R makes sense, tho I found after 10-15 hours of work my eyes are melting away and I need more brakes. Tbh it’s not just Alias. I find it across the board with engineering software. I am 3d modeling artist and exploring more advanced workflows to make life easier, and I know that some people prefer traditional workflows, but in my opinion many steps could be reduced. At least rendering could be done in 1 software instead of multiple packages. And as I’ve mentioned it was a surprise to find that some tools just been implemented or just missing. Like retopo tool straight copy of the one that was in maya for years, originally been copied from topogun:) also feels like pro software caped to quadro cards for absolutely no reason.
