  • Our new Subd Retopology tool speeds up the process of creating quick Subdivision models based on mesh or surface data. This new feature combines various Subd Tools into a single function, providing you with quick access to the tools required to create and modify a Subd based on projection geometry. There’s also a new hokey help interface that visually informs you how the mouse and clutch keys execute each command.

    Can we have "subd edge\vertex weight" instead of having to crease?

      Hello,
      thanks for the suggestion. This topic is definitely under discussion already.
      But I would highly recommend to you, to place this in the "idea station". There you also have the option to vote for topics as well.
      The idea station is also been tracked from our development.

      I hope this is helpful.

    When retoping in box mode, how can I make/keep the underying model (the model being retoped) a shaded mesh instead of a transparent mesh?

      Hello,
      it seems that this is not possible at the moment.
      I highly suggest to log this in the idea station to make that request visible to others, who can also vote for it.

    Thanks for a great video. SubD's are so cool. I didn't know about sketching on a plane, I'll definitely be using this feature!

      Are you talking about the SubD modelling workflows?
      In case yes, please see around in this channel.
      I also can recommend the SubD tutorials from Stefan Strohm:

    I have my own car design project I modeled in Inventor 2018 professional (it's 85% finished). Its meshes are so messed up (represented as triangular lines) , So there's no way to do the auto-retopology in Alias 2021 student version? my car is a super detailed coupe, it was modeled with such a large precision in Inventor, so I kind of feel that the mannual retopo won't be able to keep all the precision
    What do you suggest me to?

      Hello, as mentioned in the other post already, we don' t have an auto retop tool. What is the reason for you to convert the model into SubDs, as you you already build it up. What do you want to do with it?
      Maybe just import it as Nurbs surfaces/Shelfs via Iges or Step format into Alias?
      Thanks, Flo

    • @CWSOF
      @CWSOF 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AutodeskDesign The reason is that I want to make some changes on its body's structure, such changes that are Impossible to be done thru boundary patches in Inventor (this is how my car was modeled in there). It is 85% finished, so I wish I could finish it in Alias, but I never imagined I'd have to remodel it all.

      @@AutodeskDesign Alright, I'll try to import It this way, I hope it works. Thank you

      @@AutodeskDesign It worked a lil bit, the lines look better, not perfectly the way I wish, but it's fine. So, can I edit it as if it was a SubDs?
      if yes, how?
      Not exactly as a SubDs, I just want to edit it in any way

    • @AutodeskDesign
      @AutodeskDesign  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello,
      It really depends on how you bring the model in: If you have a triangulated mesh and want to convert it into SubDs, then you need to remodel it using the retop tool.
      Maybe another way is to bring it into Alias using NURBS data (Iges or Step) and then you can edit the NURBS surfaces directly. Most probably they will come in as Shells. In that case you need to un-stitch the Shell first.
      Other than that, I would highly recommend to you to use the Alias Community/Forum to clarify this things.
      Find it here:
      forums.autodesk.com/t5/alias/ct-p/4000
      One reason is, that its better visible to other users who can help you out and the communication, for cases like this, is better than using the comments area of TH-cam.
      I hope this is helpful so far.
      Thanks,
      Flo
