  • This was a super fun project I’m glad it turned out super good. I did a little research behind it before I did it to make sure it was safe but if anyone knows how it truly works I would love to know in the comments below hope y’all enjoy👍👍

    Thank you guys for all the support I would love to do more experiments like this but it costs me a little money every time so if y’all would be willing to support me on Patreon that would be amazing
    You will be able to see behind the scenes how I edit my videos and other projects that I don’t post and so much more

    Nice! With all those trash to treasure melts, it’s awesome to see someone use a forge to refine ore into copper.

    This is a redux (reduction/oxidation) reaction. The copper is in the oxidation state of +2 (meaning the copper atom is missing two electrons, leaving it with a +2 charge), and this charge is balanced by the -2 of the carbonate ion, in the case of copper (II) carbonate. The heat alone drives off carbon dioxide leaving copper (II) oxide (CuO) and the heat also causes the carbon in the charcoal to react with air in the crucible to form carbon monoxide. The carbon monoxide is a reducing agent which removes oxygen from the copper and reduces the copper from the +2 state to the 0 (elemental) state. Carbon dioxide is formed and escapes the vessel while copper remains behind as a liquid. There could also be direct reaction of the copper oxide and the carbon where they are in contact, but from my limited understanding I think it is generally carbon monoxide that acts as the reducing agent in reactions like this.

      How much degree of temperature need to make copper like this ?

    • @ataali4279

      I made like this and the result is red copper but its breakable , so what is the reason ?

    Is that a crystal?

      From my understanding it is a copper mineral but it can be found as a crystal
      But short answer no it is not

    Did you happen to do a before-and-after weight? Did you get 57% copper, or thereabouts?

    • @Shawn_Mayes
      @Shawn_Mayes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes I did
      Before I got about 9 ounces of rocks and then when I got the copper out it Weighs 6 ounces so in weight I got more then 57%

      All the malachite I crushed up was about 9 ounces
