I have a Shimano Citica I that had this annoying ticking sound when I reel. It almost sounds like there is a piece of line that’s stuck in the gear, I’m going to try to take it apart soon but what do you think is wrong with it. Should I put more oil, or...?
If it ticks while you reel, it may be the gears. Usually rust or corrosion. But sometimes rusted ball bearings can be the cause. Won't know until you open it up.
I bought it of Amazon. Not sure if they still have it but they will other similar to it. It is a non static rubber mat used for soldering with magnetic trays.
The spool tensioner bearing is important too but not as important as the other 2. My thought on this is solely on where the spool is actually resting on which will affect the casting more. Also most bearing companies offer only the spool bearings as a set. The tensioner bearing is usually extra. But clean all bearings if possible. I usually do this when I do clean out my bearings. 👍
@@SimplyDopeK20 Thanks for the swift reply! I am working on a lot of used Calcuttas. I just changed the gears in two that were rough feeling, and they feel brand new. One doesn't cast far, so I am now moving on to the bearings. Will be getting some lighter fluid on the way home.
Save money and use naptha over zippo lighter fluid. Its the same thing. Acetone (nail polish remover and hardware uses) is excellent too and readily available and very cheap.

I don't understand why the spool tensioner bearing is not important. Can you explain?

After cleaning should we lubreded?
You can grease to the gears and add 1 drop of oil to the bearings. But yes you should lube after cleaning.
@@SimplyDopeK20 can i cleaning ceramic bearings with wd-40? Would it hurt?
@@tahadogan8638 I have not tried but brake cleaner is fine. If not, you can use simple green degreaser.
