Hello Cryptonites! I've got a few stories lined up this month, starting with this little stocking-filler from Algernon Blackwood. Hope you enjoy! LIKE, SUBSCRIBE, SHARE, COMMENT, JOIN, and all the usual.
I’ve never heard this story before but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I had to listen to understand it a few times, & then I gave it a “once more, for good measure” as a proper tied-up bow to this lovely gift. Thank you! Your productions are brilliantly macabre & eloquently delivered. Care to meet in a dungeon for tea sometime? It would be treat of course. Thinking of a vaulted underground chamber of graves & a heaven above full of gilded idolatry- yes, France I think. 🪭🪄🪅🧧🎁🪆🎻🪗🎼🎬🎟️
Honestly Jasper, no one puts quite the emotion into a character as you do. You don't just narrate, you embody and BECOME the person. My goodness, my jaw literally drops in awe so often listening to you bring these words to life. Saying thank you doesn't come close to expressing the gratitude I have for you! 💚❤️🎄
"Who would fardels bear, To grunt and sweat under a weary life, But that the dread of something after death, The undiscovered country from whose bourn No traveler returns, puzzles the will And makes us rather bear those ills we have Than fly to others that we know not of?" I hope that Mr Blackwood was right, and that it's not such a bad place after all. I like these stories of moving on, their sweet sadness and hope. Thank you Jasper; another excellent production and thoughtful curation. Soundscape insightful. 💙
Not really worth a re-release since the video's there for anyone already, but you've given me the idea for a compilation. I've seen other channels "bundling" "content" 🤔
This is a good story. The picture and snowflakes are excellent. Fantastic narration! Algernon never ceases to entertain us. He was quite the old gent! Thanks!
This was wonderfully done. I love that line "he was quite unaware that the morning papers decided his opinions for the day". It's so true that we don't truly appreciate what we have in life until it is taken away. Enjoyed this Jasper. ❤🌟
Who was it that said ,”most men lead lives of quiet desperation”? And then, Bam, “goodbye cruel world.” I think Algie balanced it well . Although sad, there was hope in his description of the afterlife as a jolly place!
Your little stocking-filler packed a punch! Such a sweet and sad tale. Beautifully told! It’s one of those that stories that going to be sticking to me for days and rolling around in my head. Thank you Jasper! That was lovely! ✨❤️🥹✨
Just like life, if it's too good to be true . . . that narrow escape that ends up not being quite the type of escape you thought it was. I hope that we all have a friendly face waiting to see us.
Hi Jasper, love all of your efforts, but I am desperately trying to find sweeny todd part 6,and cannot find it anywhere.. Please please can you advise...steve
It doesn't exist, I'm afraid. The videos got such poor views that I stopped doing them. The source text is available online and there are probably other audio versions. It discouraged me from ever serialising a story again. Sorry!

Jasper! Your narration of this classic is superlative. Thank you!
Beautiful story💕
Full of love.
"They'll join us presently".....
Can't beat a bit of Algie Blackwood! So atmospheric. Thanks Jasper. Really enjoying this season's offerings!
I enjoyed this. What a wonderful voice you have, Jasper.
Jasper used to write stories too, I distinctly remember the one about the Truck driver at the diner. Was maybe my third listen
And if I *ever* have a good idea again I shall write another one. Unfortunately that hasn't happened...
@EnCryptedHorror it's what got me hooked at first
I really enjoyed “The Visiting Hours” by Jasper. What about a re release for Xmas?

I missed it; I'll have a listen. Thank you.

Thanks!
Did they really take the body into the house back then? Just asking. Those poor kids!
Such a huge range of emotions packed into such a small story… Wonderful. Thank you.
This was wonderfully done.
I love that line "he was quite unaware that the morning papers decided his opinions for the day".
It's so true that we don't truly appreciate what we have in life until it is taken away.
Enjoyed this Jasper. ❤🌟
❤ Thank you again for entertaining me for a short while whilst I decorate for Christmas! ❤
I have long loved Blackwood's writing, Ancient Sorceries and The Touch of Pan especially.
Why isn't this particular Christmas ghost story more famous? Well, thank you for introducing it to me in such a magnificent way.
Who was it that said ,”most men lead lives of quiet desperation”? And then, Bam, “goodbye cruel world.”

Thomas Hardy.
Henry David Thoreau?
@liamrobinson2084 no. Thomas Hardy.
@@susanm7925 I just cheated and looked it up and it was Thoreau, the American writer
@WilliamTuckwell-r8b oh, okay! Don't know where in my brain I came up with Hardy!

Perfect, just got the fire lit and a coffee made.
A mixture of sadness and comfort.
I just heard this read by Miss Worm. You are both excellent, and I always look forward to your offerings. Thanks as always.
Who in the hell is "Miss Worm"?

Is she a White Worm? Does she live in a Lair?😉
Love the crash at the end! Thanks, Jasper. I've become interested in Algernon lately, have to find out about him. 🌹❤️😄
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
A haunting and heartbreaking tale, beautifully told. Thank-you for yet another excellent story.
Fantastic! Arrived just in time for my lunchtime coffee and sandwich. You've made my day Jasper. 😊
Awww a sad one!
Love bittersweet tales like this. Thank you much!
Such a good story 👏 thank you!
What more can you ask for.
The gift of hope at Christmas.

Hi Jasper, love all of your efforts, but I am desperately trying to find sweeny todd part 6,and cannot find it anywhere..

Thanks for the reply Jasper, I have to admit I'm gutted, poor Tobias is stuck there then.😊
Steve.
@steviep8253 Haha! 'Fraid so 😄
That was a little sad 😢
What was the cop carrying into the party?
Spoiler alert
John Mudbury's corpse. This was in the days when the corpse was brought to the home between death and burial.
My, my. You would think they had a morgue back then, after 1912. Thanks for the reply and for the selection of Blackwood and your fine reading.
