Hello Cryptonites! Hope you enjoy this one. I've been meaning to do it for ages, never quite got round to it. Now...plan for Halloween is for me to try and have another story upload ready for the big night, plus another selection of Take A Break: Fate & Fortune stories for those that like them. Stay spooky everyone! J EDIT: Okay...change of plan. I'm not going to be able to get a story out but I *might* be able to do the Take A Break thing. Pesky work commitments...
A terrifying tale, beautifully read. Thank you.( Working at the British Museum, and the Museum being closed when l finished for the day, remembering this story did not help when cutting through the empty Egyptian Galleries)😊
So good! Sir Arthur couldn't help making himself the hero out of one story, but he certainly earned it. Manly 19th century English gentlemen rule over all😂 Thank you for a truly spooky presentation.
I was in Oxford last week. A relative of mine, because of their work, has access to every. Single. College grounds. An incredible privilege. What an antiquated and romantic world it is in it's own right. After a stroll around the grounds at Worcester we went to Pitt Rivers. With consideration but without comment on the acquisition of it's exhibits (more appropriately with the Ashmolean, but we didn't have time to visit it this time round), this story really suits the themes of my visit! Really enjoyed it, thanks for the tale!
Totally love this one, one of my AbFab favs (lol, great show, too). Tony did a great read on this, too. Overlap is inevitible with this subject, but I love listening to both y'all and you both being something totally unique and valuable to your channels, truly one of a kind, both of you. Cheers, Jasper, and thanks for all you (and T) do. Stanhope too! Cheers
Oh, this is a fantastic story! Fantastic narration! This is an excellent mummy story. It is at the top of my mummy story list after listening to this. The image you used is awesome! This is an excellent version of this story! 32:05 - Tom Styles' thoughts on the subject say it all. I loved this conversation. You do a great job with different voices for different people in your narrations. Thanks!
Very excited for this !!! I wacthed Mark Gatiss's adaptation in the BBC's Ghost Stories for Christmas series last . Apprantly this years offering from Gatiss is going to be an adaption of Edith Nesbit's story Man Size in Marble
You should have SO many more subscribers. People, he not only narrates some original tales of spookiness, but also the masters, as this one. He does all, records, edits and uploads. I personally know exactly how much work that entails. And he does all this while holding down a "regular" job, I believe he would gladly give up if he can make THIS his full-time job. Not only does he upload some of the classics (Sir ACD here, but many amazing works of his own as well.) If you listen and enjoy, please consider joining the channel. I promise you won't regret it 💜 Ps... I highly recommend "Randall's Round." VERY creepy and I promise the music is possibly a Rock Star. See if you can tell who....💕
This is the best narration i have heard of this story. You really did it justice with your production style and voice. One of my favorite non-Sherlock Doyle stories.
As promised, I have added a link to this video to the end of the article I wrote about "Lot No. 249" on Literature Wiki back in December 2023. I hope this will one day be included in the anthology video "EnCrypted Presents Auntie Beeb's Ghost Stories for Christmas".
Hello Jasper! Thanks for your work! I always look for your new stories, and have been very entertained by your tales. Thank you for all you do. I appear to have missed one around here somewhere, as I caught a comment from somewhere that was praising your vocal style in a collaboration with another of my favorite artists, but as often happens, a TH-cam ad intruded abruptly, and when I was able to banish it, that particular program was as gone as virginity in a co-ed dorm. Now I can't find it again. So, if I may inquire in the spirit of the Victorian detective, "WHODUNIT?!?" Whose channel was the lucky one, and when did it happen? I'd truly appreciate knowing, so I can hear your stories! Thanks again, and Happy Halloween!!!
Might buy you a cuppa?! Thanks! Just out of curiosity, is it better to stay a member here, or jump over to patreon? Does one do you better, or they pretty much equal in profitability?
@@jasonfx28 Sorry, just catching up on replying to comments. Thanks for the SuperThanks! To be honest, I'm not sure which is best, although I make more revenue generally from people watching on TH-cam so probably stick here. Any support I receive I'm very grateful for anyway 🙏
The horror of Abbots Grange my favourite so far Love your style of reading I think this story has been made into a mini drama or film recognised it straight away Makes ones skin crawl when you realise what's really going on Makes a nice change for Doyle to have a break from the great detective Cheers for this 📚🚬💣⚔️⚰️⏳🕰️🎙️🎧🎩
Poor Arthur Conan Doyle, educated, brilliant story teller, well respected....but he was a firm believer in the photographs of the fairies frolicking with some rather precocious young con women.... good story though..

THE best mummy story. Can't believe there have been so many mummy movies but so few people know this story, no movie I'm aware of really adapted this.
Yes ACD always delivers
Mark Gatiss did an adaptation of this last Christmas for the BBC Ghost Stories For Christmas series
Mark Gatiss did an adaptation of it for the BBC's A Ghost Story for Christmas last year. Kit Harrington played Abercrombie Smith.
