I loved your vision of understanding the story behind each logo and what the company want to present.
When someone ask me for a logo,
I always like to take inspiration first by
looking at the logos from other companies in the same niche
to understand
what do they like to focus on, or what the colors do they use.
Then I make mood board and start sketching and trying out things on Illustrator. :)

I really love the content of this video. It gave me the insight associated with creating of company's logos. This is quite amazing. Yeah, being copycat or create a whole new logo,I think it depends on the Graphics Designer and some underlying factors. But as for me, creating a new logo will be very tasking, though it'll worth the stress at the end.
